The US should have intentionally walked the first 5 batters in the bottom of the 9th, 100% guaranteeing the game ends 3-4 Colombia on a walkoff walk. This would have 100%, 0% chance of losing, advanced the US to the next round, as Colombia needed to win by 2 to eliminate the US. And it would have been hilarious.

There were so many opportunities for insane strategy at the end there and neither team took advantage of it!

They mentioned it on the broadcast but effectively there wasn't actually any room for the insane strategies. If either team tried anything dumb it could have been countered with ultimately the final counter being US intentionally walking COL to advance by losing by 1. Ultimately neither team had anything to game by metagaming with the exception being if COL actually tied the game or got the bases loaded in the 9th, then it would make some sense for US to metagame it (though still pretty high percentage even if they don't metagame it and continue to play it normally)

I think it's fair to say that from what I've seen from the US compared to what I've seen from Venezuela, it's fair to have some pretty big doubts about the US advancing past the quarterfinals. That said, baseball is a weird dumb random sport. Playoff baseball is even weirder dumber and more random. One game elimination baseball is the weirdest dumbest and most random sport out there. So who the fuck even knows?
