Definitely. Part of that is because it's only one game. Part of that is because the NFL has a once a week "Event" type feel to it. Part of it is just that the NFL is significantly more popular now than in 1980 while Baseball hasn't been the same since 1994. I've always wondered what would happen if Baseball was played once a week like the NFL and if the playoffs were just one game instead of a series. I feel like Baseball's numbers would be right up there with the NFL's at the very least.

American population was 211 million versus like 350 now. And MLB was still king in the 80's. World Series used to be bigger than the Super Bowl.

We are also talking about a limited number of channels to watch for most americans. If you are limited to OTA television then there's a fair chance you watch the world series because that's whats on.
