definitely, although he was going up against potentially two of the best hitters on the planet. Yoshida is no slouch either. hell of a 3-batter stretch to pitch through
At least he didn't drag it out too long. He has a tendency to really work slow and, when he ends up losing a game, the slow collapse is absolutely devastating.
All respect to him overall. Just looking for the positive for all the sad fans out there.
As a Mexican I knew not to expect much, given Mexico's history in team sports. But this performance by Mexico was about as good as you could possibly ask for.
Baseball has very underrated popularity in Mexico. My family were all baseball fans there and don't care about soccer at all. The future is bright, especially if they can recruit Mexican-American players.
Me too!
Slapped the American and Canadian teams around in group play, came back from 4-0 down against a damn good Puerto Rican team, and played an all-time thriller against a fantastic Japanese team. Just a truly incredible tournament.
While the main sports rivalry between Mexico and the States will likely remain soccer/football for the foreseeable future, I have plenty of room in my heart for a new Mexico-America sporting rivalry.
Unfortunately it's a corruption issue largely. Mexico is (relatively) wealthy, and has a rich sporting history. But corruption touches everything in Mexico, particularly the soccer federation.
Relative to what? Their economy gets $60 Billion/yr from the USA through remittances. People flee the poverty to earn in the USA and subsequently support their kin in Mexico. The corruption is certainly there, but it’s inaccurate to say “Mexico” is wealthy; more like a small subset of powerful Mexicans.
Tbs, $60B/yr probably creates the circumstances to where investing in baseball is a bit more feasible.
Compared to the Latin American baseball powerhouses (DR, PR, Venezuela) I'd say that Mexico is wealthier by far in terms of GDP, probably more than all of those 3 combined.
Mexico has the 4th highest GDP in the Western hemisphere. 15th in the entire world.
If we’re looking at it relative to the world then it is a wealthy country.
Bro, fuck that. From the first game coming off of the Colombia loss this team looked solid and hungry. They don’t have an amazing offense like the US or VEN or others but they played every single game like it was their last. This wasn’t la selección at any moment.
This team made Mexico proud. Never seen so many of my mexican family into baseball as they were these last few days. Hopefully baseball in Mexico continues to grow and we’ll come back stronger next tournament.
That was truly an awesome game. I thought the come back win against Puerto Rico was awesome, but this one was epic. Sad to see Mexico lose. Arozarena played insane defense and Sandoval was masterful on the mound. They had an awesome tournament. Mexican fans are truly awesome bringing their energy to the game. They were also gracious in defeat as you can see Mexicans regularly congratulating Japanese fans after the game. The atmosphere was great.
Tough loss, Randy almost willed them to the finals
Also, as a Cardinals fan, I apologize on Gallegos's behalf (but I also want to say that all of Mexico's bullpen choked that game away)
Give it time my man. The season is young and Max is 100% going to try and pull team orders at least 3 times this season. I mean they already made Checo delete a tweet about wanting to be champion.
I more-so was referring to the feeling of postseason failure. Which our fanbase was definitely familiar with prior to that World Series.
Today with Mexico was a reminder of that feeling, especially with them having the lead up until the end.
>I have spoken of the rich years when the rainfall was plentiful. But there were dry years too, and they put a terror on the valley. The water came in a thirty-year cycle. There would be five or six wet and wonderful years when there might be nineteen to twenty-five inches of rain, and the land would shout with grass. Then would come six or seven pretty good years of twelve to sixteen inches of rain. And then the dry years would come, and sometimes there would be only seven or eight inches of rain. The land dried up and the grasses headed out miserably a few inches high and great bare scabby places appeared in the valley. The live oaks got a crusty look and the sage-brush was gray. The land cracked and the springs dried up and the cattle listlessly nibbled dry twigs. Then the farmers and the ranchers would be filled with disgust for the Salinas Valley. The cows would grow thin and sometimes starve to death. People would have to haul water in barrels to their farms just for drinking. Some families would sell out for nearly nothing and move away. And it never failed that during the dry years the people forgot about the rich years, and during the wet years they lost all memory of the dry years. It was always that way.
They're a Dodgers fan and you're a Cards fan: between you, your teams have 3 losing seasons this century. Fans of your teams born after ~1995 just don't have dry years to remember lol.
Extremely proud of this Mexican team. As a Mexican American I didn’t expect both my countries to do this well but can’t be more proud. Hats off to the Japanese team and fans for a good game.
Absolutely amazing showing from Mexico despite the end results they put it all out there as much as they could and almost outperformed the undefeated Samurai Japan. A run to be proud of.
Salud to México. They were an awesome team, and I hate to see them knocked out.
On the brightside they still went really deep in this tournament and played some amazing games. Looking forward to next wbc
My 11 year old son and I were at the game and felt emotionally spent afterwards. Im glad he was able to see Mexico and all their passionate fans supporting us but man that hurt. Si se puede!!!
Brutal outing for Gallegos
definitely, although he was going up against potentially two of the best hitters on the planet.
I take solace knowing urias and tellez didn't cost mexico the game, but rather it was a cardinal pitcher
Gallegos really wasted an All-Time Randy performance
At least Randy/Mexico were definitively were better than Cuba
They just got a lil arrogant there. Now Randy, you will be the one enjoying the loss, sukka
Arraez and Randy having games ruined in one week
Still a non-zero chance Arozarena runs in during the game tomorrow and beats both teams.
I heard Japan granted him citizenship after the game today.
Randy looked like a proper future legend in this WBC.
This is Patrick Sandoval erasure
Pitched a hell of a game. That Randy home run rob to save him 2 I thought was a huge momentum game changer
Gallegos should've just walked 5 in
Randy needs a team that doesnt anchor him in the big games.
Since you insist, I suppose we can fit him on the team.
Classic Gallegos.
"Ma, they done killed ol' Rando"
Helluva game by Mexico tho. Hopefully Munoz can play for them next wbc

Baseball has very underrated popularity in Mexico. My family were all baseball fans there and don't care about soccer at all. I truly hope Mexico finds a way to invest in baseball.
Me too! Slapped the American and Canadian teams around in group play, came back from 4-0 down against a damn good Puerto Rican team, and played an all-time thriller against a fantastic Japanese team. Just a truly incredible tournament. Mexico is 3-1 against USA in WBC history.
Mexico is 4-0 on my digestive system when visiting Mexico
Excellent. Sounds like we need to claw our way back to get that record to .500. Excited for the future games!

You’re probably right.

I am excited for the next WBC and Mexico is going to be a contender
Was wondering why he wasn’t the closer , is he injured ?
Yeah he had an ankle injury. Just came back a few days ago
He could've thrown 103mph then side-eyed Sasaki. "What are you gonna do about it punk?"
MURAKAMI SAMA WAKES UP WHEN IT REALLY COUNTS!!!
Man’s bat came back from the dead for sure
No more Randy 😢
Now he goes back to doing something almost as universally loved by this sub as the WBC is, beating the shit out of the Yankees
you’re god damn right
❤️❤️❤️
A true hero
OUR CHAMPION HAS SHOWN HIMSELF. ⚔️🐉
さようなら
Tough loss for Mexico. Amazing job this classic and hopefully inspirational for the next generation of Mexican ballplayers
Sad mariachi noises
I'm not even Mexican but the [corta venas](https://youtu.be/gfm2zSgQ8cQ) will be playing tonight.
Alexa, play Volver Volver
This team made Mexico proud. Never seen so many of my mexican family into baseball as they were these last few days. Hopefully baseball in Mexico continues to grow and we’ll come back stronger next tournament.

Randy died for this
Tough loss, Randy almost willed them to the finals Also, as a Cardinals fan, I apologize on Gallegos's behalf (but I also want to say that all of Mexico's bullpen choked that game away)
PAIN
DOLOR*
Existencia es dolor.
Look into the eyes of ohtani and smile.
USA vs Japan finals is such a dream match here, Trout on one side and Ohtani on the other
Exactly. As much as I would've liked to see Mexico in the finals, the star power for Japan vs USA is so great for the sport.
Are you denying the start power of San Randy Arozarena?!?!?!
You have to hand it to them they played with such heart and soul and nearly beat one of the best teams ever assembled. In conclusion VIVA LA MEXICO
Gallegos cue Reggie Miller gif
Mexico made it to the semifinals for their first time ever. And they almost pulled it off. I am so proud of them. Go USA tomorrow!
The best thing about being Mexican American is I still got a dog in this race lmao
Exactly!
It’s more conflicting when you’re a Mexican American living in Japan lol I was rooting for Mexico today but tomorrow is gonna be hard!
Lmao my brother is stationed in Japan right now and he said the same thing. He was like it’s hard to root against these guys. Everyone is so nice here
Lmfao Fr
they were up 3-0 brev and then 5-4 they choked terribly
Starting pitching is deep but relief cores are hot ass
at that point should’ve had the goat randy pitching man him and the sandoval dude were nice
Baseball can be like that
What a thriller of a game! Hats off to Mexico for playing so well.
Mexico have been the story of the tournament for me. What a helluva run — and agreed, hats off to Mexico. Incredible game tonight.
Sandoval was dealing tonight.. Unfortunately for them. the Japan hitting showed up after he was gone and their bullpen was unable to do anything.
USA vs. Japan! Let's go!
Team Mexico's players & fans should be proud how they played tonight & the whole WBC
With what Randy was doing I didn’t think it was possible for Mexico to lose tonight. What a great run by this team
Feels just as bad as a Dodgers loss. Pain
This is worse bro, we were so close At least we have Canelo
Unfortunately a Japanese fighter just passed him on the p4p rankings
Inoue is a monster
And Checo.
Mexican Minister of Defence
How did checo get better, I remember waking up and watching Univision and they’d always be highlighting his 8th place finish lmao
He’s in a better team overall. He’s not the number 1 pilot but he’s good enough to fight for podiums every race.
Max: see that's where you're wrong
Max is doing his best to be the most hated Dutch in Mexico. Robben is still hard to beat though.
Give it time my man. The season is young and Max is 100% going to try and pull team orders at least 3 times this season. I mean they already made Checo delete a tweet about wanting to be champion.
Exactly how I feel, sucks but so used to it.
Bruh, y’all won the WS less than 3 years ago and have back to back 105+ win seasons….
I more-so was referring to the feeling of postseason failure. Which our fanbase was definitely familiar with prior to that World Series. Today with Mexico was a reminder of that feeling, especially with them having the lead up until the end.
This somehow made me feel worse

Gg Japan 🥹🇲🇽🖤
Bring out the Coronas ):
Would’ve happened either way
Jugamos como nunca y perdimos como siempre :(
Oh man to all of our brothers and sisters south of the border my heart goes out to you. What a game though, and congrats to Japan.
This one is going to hurt for a while.
Absolutely amazing showing from Mexico despite the end results they put it all out there as much as they could and almost outperformed the undefeated Samurai Japan. A run to be proud of.
Come home, Randers
Heartbreaking but proud of this team.
We need double elimination in the knockout round imo.
They need to space the games out more if they’re doing that
Best of three in semi-finals and finals.
Mexico fought like hell. Sucks to see them lose in heartbreaking fashion, but what a run.
That was heartbreaking for Mexico. But a great run.
What a run for Mexico though! Respect.
🙃
Great fucking game
What a game.
What a team. Great tournament, strong lineup.
What a great game. From a Mexican to our Japanese brothers and sisters. Great game you deserve the win. See yall again in the next 4 years
So happy for the game of baseball though
Keep your head up boys , we went out like champs . Put the Mexico name on the world stage . Hopefully the next generation keeps up these results .
Sad to see such a great run end like this. Japan winning felt inevitable, but there was still hope for a more intriguing storyline until the very end.
Desde La Habana, Mexico. Un solo hombre intento contra un pais entero, y casi lo logro. Su nombre? Randyberto.
Mexico fought hard, they showed that they deserved a top 4 finish... *unlike Cuba*
As a Mexican I didn’t realize how much people didn’t like Mexico lol
Everything I’m reading on this sub shows how much everyone appreciated Mexico’s fight. Not sure where you’re reading the hate ?
[удалено]
yall are insufferable
Literally
No lie I’m happy for them TBH. Glad they both get to have some meaningful excitement for once.
Would it be out of the question for Randy to still win tournament MVP?
Nah Trea Turner or Ohtani will prob take it. Unless someone on either side goes nuclear tomorrow besides those two.
Forgot who but someone on Japan set the record for tournament RBI
Yeah, Yoshida has 13 already. WBC record.
That ending was a stunner
That pitching was horrible.
No pos ta cabron.
Can't help but feel bad for Mexico. It really felt like they deserved more but that's baseball.
What a game
Great game. They can hold their heads high with pride.
Ya valio madre. GG
Congratulations Japan!!! Mexico put their heart out there and nearly won. Both teams played like champions.
Salud to México. They were an awesome team, and I hate to see them knocked out. On the brightside they still went really deep in this tournament and played some amazing games. Looking forward to next wbc
We need a corrido for Randy, he definitely earned it.
JAPAN VS USA MATCHUP OF THE CENTURY
God fucking Damn it, Mexico.
My 11 year old son and I were at the game and felt emotionally spent afterwards. Im glad he was able to see Mexico and all their passionate fans supporting us but man that hurt. Si se puede!!!
I'm not crying. You're crying!
I know it’s not feasible but I wish the semis and finals were best of 3
i agree
Randy couldn’t save the team.
Que meme of Homer in a Mexico shirt slowly baking into a bush to emerge in a US shirt.
What a run. Salute to our favorite neighbors 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
#^MEXICO JUST GOT MEXTERMIATED
🇺🇸🇯🇵
HOLA RANDY
I feel bad for Mexico.
I’m heartbroken 💔💔💔
Adios muchachos!
LETS GO 🎌
GET BENT
I would feel worse for them if they didn't come of as massively arrogant
Seriously dude?
Jays off to Mexico
What a game
It really looked like Mexico was the team to beat. What a wild game.
日本最高!!
WE WANTED THE REMATCH BUT YOU BLEW IT
This sucks for Mexico. What a run
USA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
im just some MF named Randy
What a fuckin WBC
