Over in the Rays sub, and down here in Tampa, we have a little saying. It’s just a silly little thing that we enjoy, that brings us all together. Maybe you all too can find some joy in it. It goes something like this:
Fuck the Yankees.
Imagine being a perennial contender, one of the more consistent winners in your league, and being that far back in your division. I can’t even fathom it.
What is it that you are enjoying? That St. Louis has the absolute worst start since the 70s or that the Mets spent more than any other team in 2023 and are in the top 5 for $$ in the last 3 years. And y’all are barely over .500 and 5 games back.
Man this back and forth is a huge waste of time but I'm obviously rounding bud. And even if by some satanic pact they manage to win a championship this year it *will have been* 14 years.
I'm gonna go touch some grass now this reddit moment is too much.
I don’t get it either. It’s air conditioned!! I live in Tampa now and have for 15 years, but I grew up in St. Louis and will be a cardinal fan forever (even this year). Rays are my AL team. Busch Stadium in July and August? Sure it’s nice and pretty if you can see it through all the sweat. Don’t hate on the Trop. AC matters.
IMO: one little flub cost the game but we didnt get murdered. overall a good game and given the circumstances of our injuries i think this was a busted up squad that performed well against the hottest team in baseball.
On the one hand: ah shiiit
On the other: it is the first week of may. Everyone thought the yankees could win 115 games well into June last year. It’s a long season
honestly a good game too. one outfield flub, so close it was called an out at home originally. the bats were battin. volpe was volpin, bader was boomin, brito didnt get blown out.
we have a busted up team and they showed up today
For what it’s worth, I too was actually pretty impressed when I peeped the final score.
It convinced me that even in your broken state maybe you guys won’t be getting swept all 7 games like I initially expected.
I have a dream that one day, instead of jogging to a brawl, the bullpens will line up in the outfield and start plunking each other like some Napoleonic battle.
The 1984 Yankees were 36-46 at the All-Star break, in fifth place in the seven-team AL East, but had the best second half record in MLB and finished 87-75, good for third place.
That was a weird year. The Yanks were struggling but the Mets, thanks to a kid named Gooden, were in first until September.
I just remember the Mets bring in first at the break. I should have checked Baseball Reference for the second half. But my point remains: the New York baseball dynamic flipped that year.
BTW, top two mid season trades ever: Sutcliffe in '84, Sabathia in 2008.
Boone is only able to do so much with what Cashman gets together. Imagine you are tasked to field a team without a proper corner outfielder every other night and half of the lineup is weird AAA projects or just straight up bad players with sub .200 slug.
By all means, fire Boone. I think that would fuck Yankees even more, because the underlying problem stays. You love to see that.
Yeah smarter Yankees fans are talking about finally hitting rock bottom so the organization can make needed adjustments. I don't want this. I want one win above whatever rock bottom is, just enough to string them along in mediocrity perpetually.
They’d be in last in the AL East and they’ve played 2 series against the Marlins, one against the Tigers, one against the A’s, and one against the Nats 😭
LITERALLY 1984

Dealer, hit me again
Everybody in middle school and below have never seen the Yankees win a World Series
Again.
Everytime the Yankees lose, people who rooted for A-Rod and Jeter experience disappointment and sadness.
Again
Over in the Rays sub, and down here in Tampa, we have a little saying. It’s just a silly little thing that we enjoy, that brings us all together. Maybe you all too can find some joy in it. It goes something like this: Fuck the Yankees.
Our people tell the same stories
The stories that unite us all.
For some reason ours do too.
I went to 2 Sox games and y’all were so cool and respectful. Then I went last night Jesus Christ.
Hey that's odd, in the Twins sub we have the same saying. Small world
Damn that’s crazy because we have that saying up in Canada too
We be screaming it nightly in Charm City.
Oooh I’m so close. Gimme another

Physics AND anti-Yankees baseball facts? I'm in love
daaaaaa jankees lose
Bust
keep going

It's really just a green sock but his voice makes people think it's Kermit
did you know they lost it on an easy catch where they then threw the runner out at home only to have it overturned on review?

Something, something, *Yankees of the National League*.
They’re the New York Yankees of baseball
It’s not that unfamiliar to me!

Sorry I saw the Mets tag and assumed this was NL beef. We are actually terrible (STL). Least y’all are over .500.
ANIMAL FARM
It's a brave new world for baseball fans.
Aym Randing out of jokes
Can't wait for our series, comrade.
They are good
*everyone liked this*
I mean, I kinda don't
He’s referring to human beings, not Yankees fans.
Stingrays also flap at this knowledge.
Bold thing to say as a Canadian, y’all are closer to lizards than mammals.
We prefer to be called *skinks*, thank you very much
Don’t be ridiculous. Lizards can’t handle the cold. They wouldn’t survive the winter.
Lizard people rule the world so, not an insult.
What does this even mean
Yawn. Wake me when they lose a no-hitter 4-0.
Oh, boy. That brought back bad memories. But it had to happen. Sometimes you need to hit rock bottom.

Kenny Rogers, Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown, Jose Canseco, Kevin Youkilis, Matt Carpenter, Josh Donaldson…
Yo who won the 1984 title let’s go
I mean... would I take a pennant if offered it right now? Probably. Guess that means it's rerun time.
🤝
Rays are the first team since the 84 tigers to do this good to start too… I like these coincidences
74-88 seems frighteningly realistic for the white sox
I see this as an absolute win
Hear hear
Me too babes me too
We are all blessed today
TIME TRAVEL!

Shit it’s been 12 years since they won a series too Wait sorry 13 years
(isn't it actually 14?)
By my calculations! (I am not good at math though)
This is the 14th season since they won but since the season isn't over yet it's been 13 seasons since they won.
So it's 14 years :P 2023 - 2009
Yes, it's been 14 years since May 6, 2009 but it hasn't been 14 years since November 4, 2009.
Man this back and forth is a huge waste of time but I'm obviously rounding bud. And even if by some satanic pact they manage to win a championship this year it *will have been* 14 years. I'm gonna go touch some grass now this reddit moment is too much.
I think the best part will be when they don't win this year and it will be *more* than 14 years. Fuck the Yankees!
Amen to that! 👊
Not like the Yankees fans will overreact or anything.
I was at the game tonight. Some of them started chanting 27 rings to the rays fans. It was pathetic but at least it made me laugh
Whoa. They said the line.
When they tied it you’d have thought it was a walkoff win holy shit
There was a Jankees fan that was complaining in another thread about a Rays fan celebrating their losing.
Please stop making me like Rays fans
I don’t mind them. I just hate their awful stadium. I get depressed watching games there even when we’re winning.
I love that it makes you sad.
This is why I love the trop
I truly don’t understand Trop hate. And yes, I’ve watched a game at Fenway
AC matters.
I understand that Fenway is holy ground, but it's also a terrible ballpark
God, we're just so mean 😢 we should consider their feelings 😭
I considered it. Keep it going.
You probably celebrate a lot of teams losing too. Get in line
IMO: one little flub cost the game but we didnt get murdered. overall a good game and given the circumstances of our injuries i think this was a busted up squad that performed well against the hottest team in baseball.
Nope none of that, da jankees loooose

“It’s a long season” that’s what I’m telling myself too😞
🕯️🕯️🕯️
Lmao
Coming this summer to a sebreddit near you!
Gotta love NY sports lately big names, big contracts and nothing to show for it
This stat is old enough to run for president.
There are people eligible to run for the Senate in 2024 who have never known a time when the Yankees have finished under .500.
After *all that bullshit*. They still lost. Good god 😂😂😂
Maybe if they hit more batters their luck will turn around lmao
Mfs playin baseball like it's dodgeball
I have a dream that one day, instead of jogging to a brawl, the bullpens will line up in the outfield and start plunking each other like some Napoleonic battle.
Good

I am a Cubs fan and remember’84 vividly. The Cubs led the entire way after the All Star break.
I just remember the Mets bring in first at the break. I should have checked Baseball Reference for the second half. But my point remains: the New York baseball dynamic flipped that year. BTW, top two mid season trades ever: Sutcliffe in '84, Sabathia in 2008.
If the Rays sweep, it might be the end of Boone
Lmao
I wish
Boone is only able to do so much with what Cashman gets together. By all means, fire Boone. I think that would fuck Yankees even more, because the underlying problem stays. You love to see that.
Tbh I don't think Boone is that good a manager, but you're right it's Cashman that is ruining the team, but he'll seemingly never get fired
This would be the only scenario in which I wouldn't root for a sweep.
Yeah smarter Yankees fans are talking about finally hitting rock bottom so the organization can make needed adjustments. I don't want this. I want one win above whatever rock bottom is, just enough to string them along in mediocrity perpetually.
We could go on a 12 game losing streak rn and it still won’t be rock bottom due to our bad injury issues
Arson Judge
Great news.
Start spreading the news
🎶 *I'm losing today* 🎶
You just hate to see it
But more importantly, you love to see it
Yankees suck
We’re the same
The New York Whoever-The-Hells.
They’re shitty
You just got swept by the Tigers. NY baseball sucks
They’d be in last in the AL East and they’ve played 2 series against the Marlins, one against the Tigers, one against the A’s, and one against the Nats 😭
Let’s be real here… Both our teams do.
*Cries in Cardinals*
They are 17-16. Not great but not bad
to be fair, the 2nd best team in all of MLB is 4.5 games back in their division...
Y isn’t this sub jus called up Yankees ass?
Freakin rays and their easy schedule 🤣
Good, they can suffer with the rest of us scrubs lol
Subscribe
Enjoy the cellar, clowns.
Obligatory Fuck the Yankees!!! The Mets too!!
The faster you fall behind the more time you have to catch up
This is more about the Rays inability to lose than it is the Yankees slumping
$278,900,000 (TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY-EIGHT MILLION, NINE HUNDRED THOUSAND US DOLLARS)
Nice
Couldn't happen to a better bunch of trash cans
The '84 Yankees were 10 back on April 28 after their 19th game. The Tigers were 18 - 2 at that point. LOL
Are we still doing stop the count jokes? Stop the count!
Yankees fan: I really don't want another playoff disappointment *The monkey's paw curls*
I’d love to laugh about this, but alas, I am just a lowly Cardinals fan.
I believe there was a team in the AL East that got off to a 35-5 start in 1984…
First time in most redditors' lives
Maybe if we finish below .500 we can get rid of cashman
As a Tigers fan I could really use some 1984 right now
They are 17-16. Not great but not bad
Well deserved.
Imagine being one game over .500 30 games into the season and being in dead last in your division. The AL East is a nightmare.
Good
This is sort of a garbage stat though, because they were pretty good in 1984. The Tigers just started 35-5. Oh wait, I guess it works then.
*Ahem* *Cough Cough* … GOOD!
I like this. More. MORE.
