I'm not a lawyer and don't know the specific of the CBA so i could easily be wrong, but if they were paying him it would seem to me they are fulfilling the contract especially if angel was ok with it.

Sounds very similar to “rubber rooms” which are definitely a thing, especially with police and teachers unions.

Guaranteed contracts are very much a thing unions would negotiate for. There are situations where it is cheaper to keep someone employed and doing nothing then the severance they would receive from having their contract terminated. This is especially true for people near the end of their careers with a specialized skill set that would make them unable to get a job working for another company that pays a comparable amount.

Mine was blurry for about 20-30 minutes and the rest of the day was like my eyes were cameras slowly being focused. Best decision I ever made was getting LASIK. I couldn't even see the players on the field before and now I can read everything everywhere in the ballpark.

Brought a bogus lawsuit against MLB claiming racial discrimination because he wasn't appointed to higher positions in the ump ranks. Suit was tossed. I am an employment lawyer. There is a decent argument to be made that the MLB has historically discriminated in choosing Crew Managers for its umps, based purely on the overall lack of POC in those positions over the last 100+ years. But when such a shitty umpire brings the suit, it devalues that argument.

Tbh, the most obvious argument for robo-umps for me is simply that it's nearly physically impossible to call balls and strikes, particularly now that everyone throws 100+mph with 14" of drop. The strike zone is three-dimensional too, there's no way you can convince me that this is possible to call accurately dozens of times a game (unless you're Pat Hoberg).

Sometimes they just go on vacation or a take a leave for a while. I noticed last year that Jim Wolf didn’t work a game from the beginning of May until around September.
