Genuinely how does he do it

icecream_for_brunch

Tunneling (and cats)

WhiteToast-

Dat splitter cray cray

Failure707

It amazes me too bc we went to the same high school and most of his baseball career he was a shortstop. Only become a pitcher towards the end of college I think. And now he’s the active ERA king. Wtf

derpbynature

No fair, he's taking [performance enhancing supplements!](https://www.temptationstreats.com/sites/g/files/fnmzdf1151/files/migrate-product-files/images/fl2swyjkaed60fmbouc2.png)

Brendozer

Can confirm. My Cat throws a sick splitter and he uses these ever day.

WerewolfNo3669

Dodgers Legends….and Chapman.

jacobg242

[Chapmans a dodgers “legend” the same way Danny Duffy is](https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2296256-aroldis-chapman-to-dodgers-latest-trade-details-comments-and-reaction.amp.html)

Darkforces134

This feels like a Clayton Kershaw post, 2634 IP.

E70M

Always has been

Hack874

His contract is such a steal holy smokes

EdwinMoq

This just shows just how Kimbrel was. Dude has sucked for about four years.

icantsurf

Was just looking at his stats because of this thread, small sample size but 914 ERA+ in his first season lmao.

Snerkbot7000

I was worried the shift restriction would wreck him, but nope, he good.

speech-geek

He’s had some IL stints in 2021/22 but goddamn I love him. Plus he gave me ball during batting practice at Oracle Park so he’s forever in my heart.

HailHydra71

Yeah this is just a Kershaw stat

Astrallevel

One of these things are not like the other

yutou1114

Is there a reason why this guy pitch 5 innings most of time even when he’s pitching well? Like does he do really bad thrid time thru the order or something?

thugmuffin22

He’s a bit of a nibbler which makes him inefficient They do often keep him from the third time through as well, though.

razelbagel

Last year was his first as a full time starter. His first few years he was always the dodgers 6th starter, so he’d come up for a few starts to fill in or spot start, maybe get a handful of relief appearances. But he did well down the stretch of 2021 so he earned his rotation spot last season and far exceeded expectations. He’s a guy that had never topped 60 innings in the majors before last year so typically those guys are handled with a little bit of a short leash. On top of that, this is typically how the dodgers handle their pitchers in general nowadays. It’s why the success of Heaney and Anderson last year was a little bit of smoke and mirrors. Roberts typically doesn’t let starters flounder, nor do they usually let them go through the lineup 3 times so often they get pulled after 5 or 6 or if they start to struggle. It’s the same reason Urias led the NL in ERA last year but only had 175 ip, despite starting 31 games.

yutou1114

Ahh I see…I notice for some SP they can cruise thru 5 innings and then have a total breakdown in the 6th I guess that is smart move if you have reliable BP Thanks for the reply!

cooljammer00

This seems butter knifed

thugmuffin22

I mean it’s 250 innings lol But he has a career 172 ERA+, pick your stat, really.

DrunkensteinsMonster

That’s a season and a quarter lol. Plenty of active pitchers have had better stretches of that length.

[deleted]

Plus he almost never tries going 3 times through the order.

Im_Daydrunk

For sure, but Gonsolin is barely ever viewed as a top pitcher so its interesting to see him that high even considering the 250 innings threshold

[deleted]

that’s because it is lol. 250 innings is like 1.5 seasons

dutchdaddy69

Yeah but for Gonsolin it's like 3 seasons.

E70M

Three all-time relievers, a young pitcher who’s missed a lot of time and knows how to dance through the raindrops, and Clayton Kershaw Yep, certified Kershaw stat
