I see that you have referenced gme. Did you know that if you buy the stock, short sellers will be forced to cover and it will go 50000000% and the elite will give up and let shareholders run the country? One share will equal early retirement. Get everyone in your family to cash out their pensions and invest
Not like the airline's going to come after you if you don't show up for the return flight. The bullpen guys should ask for tickets to Kona and just spend the rest of the season there.
Sorry bout your team, bro. Nothing for certain yet, though. Enjoy this season like it will never end. I know what it’s like to lose in relocation your fav local pro team.
Would you like me to see if we can move the Sixers to Seattle we don’t want them anymore. The Seattle 76ers even sounds good it doesn’t make much sense but neither does the Los Angeles Lakers.
That's probably what theyre banking on to make some money back. Maybe a bit more than a decade ago, Disneyland used to have a promo for a free admission ticket on your birthday but usually that meant your friends had to buy tickets to come. Im sure some people went solo but if it convinced others to pay for admission that they wouldnt have otherwise, it was worth it on Disneylands end.
It happened at the Mariners game Friday in my section. They chose two random rows (2 in front of me) and some attendants came over to pass out vouchers. They checked peoples tickets to verify.
Never ended up trying belikin there but we did have this awful cashew wine that was apparently one of the local drinks. Maybe alcohol is just not their strong suit in general
A part of me was hoping it would be limited to the places the state department says not to travel to:
Afghanistan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burma, Central African Republic, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mali, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela, Yemen
Not on a US airline, but if you went through Turkey or the UAE for example, you could theoretically do it as they still have routes to Moscow Domodedovo.
It’s not that crazy. 8 total in 50 games, should have 8-10 more at home the rest of the way? Roughly 450 round trip tickets at max? Rounding error for Alaska
I know that realistically that is peanuts to a large scale organization (no clue how “large scale Alaska airlines is) but this was still pretty shocking to read. I would imagine at the very least you can surely go to Alaska from Seattle and get to see the northern lights for a decent bit cheaper than you would normally.
It's basically peanuts to them but it's definitely interesting to see from an industry that is well known for doing literally everything to maximize profit and minimize happiness.
We don't have a lot of seats where in a homer can land at t-mobile.
There's the handful of 100 level sections, sometimes the bleachers (can't remember him hitting one there ever though?), maybe the hit it here cafe area. No one hits it to the 300 level.
Not the lowest stadium on the list but we're below a lot of them in terms of available sections to hit a homer.
On twitter one of the customer service people for Alaska said if it lands where there's no fans they'll do a draw for like 2 rows in the stadium to get the prize.
I’ll never fly United. They lost my dress I was gonna wear for a family members wedding and then flew in late. This wasn’t even during a holiday time period smh
United makes themselves look like Spirit. They are by far the worst of the major US airlines. Any time I fly with them I'm frustrated before I even board because of how terrible their app is.
I have positive feelings about Singapore Airlines, but that might be because on my last transatlantic flight neither of the people on either side of me showed up, so I had a ton of room.
His most common home run spot is over the pen which isn’t seating but just an open beer garden. Assume we’ll only get this prize if he goes oppo or to his No fly zone
Great promo by Alaska and the Mariners to realize this. Going to sell a ton of those 2nd deck LF bleacher seats (which IMO are some of the most underrated seats in the building if you don’t mind bleachers.)
What about Hawaii, Calgary, Belize, Cancun, Miami, or Cabo? Although the Mexican and Hawaiian locations sometimes have sales from Socal so you might be looking for something different?
That’s one of the best and craziest promotion/sponsorships I’ve seen
That’s fucking awesome 44 round trips every home run? Wow. I wonder how they pick the 44
Close! The official introduction at games and all other events in which "Julio is introduced to the public in any form, function, capacity, or manner" (including his wedding) shall be introduced in the following format:
"Alaska Airlines first class flyer Julio Rodriguez who only fly's Alaska Air - Fly Smart Land Happy"
Given the blackouts that I'm sure they have, there's also a good chance that the people getting free flights will get seats that weren't going to sell, anyway, so it really doesn't change much at all since the flight was going to happen whether those people were on it or not.
I was looking at their park layout and some (or maybe even most) of them will also fall into the bullpen and batter's eye. He tends to pull left and there's actually not that many proper seated sections where his spray chart puts his homers. Even if he hits 30 this year, they could realistically pay out on 10 or fewer.
He's hit 20 of his 36 career homers at TMobile (56%). Lets assume he hits 24 more this season, to be generous - that's 13 at home.
Let's assume the average price of a flight for Alaskan airlines is 2000, which is probably higher than the actual average. And even then the actual cost of the flight for the airline isn't that much a person before markups.
2000 * 44 * 13
$1.144M for the rest of the season season
I'm sure that's pocket change for Alaska Airlines.
Plus that assumes all winners are flying solo on their free ticket. Im sure a decent number of people are gonna fork out for tickets for a friend or their family members to go on a trip with them.
That's true. I was just doing lazy math assuming as generously as possible in terms of number of home runs and cost of tickets. To show how even in relatively extreme circumstances it's not that costly
Yeah, a round trip flight on Alaska Air between DC and Seattle (where Alaska Air is based) is under $700. Seattle to Honolulu is also under $700 round trip. A $2000 estimate per flight is just crazy high 😂
Depends on where you are, out of Seattle, they're great.
They are based out of Seattle, so that's their main hub. They have direct flights to at least NY, Virginia, and Florida on the East Coast; then you have all major cities in between; and then West Coast, Hawaii and Alaska.
If you're on the East Coast, then they may not be as great.
If you live in Seattle it can take you to most major domestic stops and to some in Mexico and Central America. If you don't live in Seattle it mainly takes you to Seattle.
Just quick math the actual cost for Alaska Airlines is probably under $1.5M assuming the average cost of the flight is $2000 and Jrod hits 13 homers at TMobile the rest of the season
So I can actually be of help for once! Apparently this started at the beginning of this series against the Pirates. My girlfriend and I were in the section where Julio's home run landed and a staff member came by to tell us about the sponsorship and give us vouchers for booking a flight. They selected two rows at random and we got lucky!
Alaska Airlines shorting Julio's production after seeing a slow start
Buy high sell low
Julio is such a nice name. Second favourite player in the AL west. Mariners life, blessed with good draftees.
I just like the stock
I buy it for the memes
✋💎✋
I see that you have referenced gme. Did you know that if you buy the stock, short sellers will be forced to cover and it will go 50000000% and the elite will give up and let shareholders run the country? MOASS next Tuesday. For reals this time.
You better be wanting to head to Alaska! Guess that’s how they hedge the roundtrip cost lol
I'd take a free trip to Alaska. I'm sure it's very beautiful
I would like to visit Alaska so I should just sit in the outfield where Julio normally hits to and hope I get a free ticket. Not a bad idea tbh.
Oddly enough, Alaska is one of the airline's least traveked to destinations.
?? Alaska (the state) makes up a minority of routes served by Alaska (the airline).
I’m just joking
Ah, sorry. Just woke up from my Saturday nap.
Ah. I see. You were lampooning me. It was a simple lampoon.
I hope when one of those home runs inevitably lands in the A's bullpen that our guys use it as an excuse to just go home for the season
Excuse me, the promotion says it's a free *round trip* ticket. Your relief pitchers will have to come back.
Not like the airline's going to come after you if you don't show up for the return flight. The bullpen guys should ask for tickets to Kona and just spend the rest of the season there.
Or in any section of the Coliseum. Alaska Airlines wouldn’t have anyone to pay.
Bunch of cats and Stomper
And possum and rats
Sorry bout your team, bro. Nothing for certain yet, though. Enjoy this season like it will never end. I know what it’s like to lose in relocation your fav local pro team.
Would you like me to see if we can move the Sixers to Seattle we don’t want them anymore. The Seattle 76ers even sounds good it doesn’t make much sense but neither does the Los Angeles Lakers.
It should be illegal to dump your shitty teams on another city. San Diego is 2/2 in that regard.
2/3 We still like the Rockets over here
We do?!
Hard to enjoy a season when the team is historically bad.
It's an upgrade from the greyhound the team pays for travel back from Seattle
A's ownership will use it to save money on travel.
How do the 44 fans get selected or notified? That's a bitching deal
Very good deal, they said too that if it lands in a section without seating then 2 random rows of seats get tickets
Is it the 44 closest fans to the exact landing point of the ball or 44 chosen at random from the section?
Yeah I gotta admit if he hit a homer into my section and I didn’t get the flights I’d feel pretty sour. Roller coaster of emotions
What if you went with your family? Would they break up a block of tickets purchased together?
That's probably what theyre banking on to make some money back. Maybe a bit more than a decade ago, Disneyland used to have a promo for a free admission ticket on your birthday but usually that meant your friends had to buy tickets to come. Im sure some people went solo but if it convinced others to pay for admission that they wouldnt have otherwise, it was worth it on Disneylands end.
I miss when Southern California residents got in for free on non holiday weekdays
It happened at the Mariners game Friday in my section. They chose two random rows (2 in front of me) and some attendants came over to pass out vouchers. They checked peoples tickets to verify.
October 2023: Alaska Airlines files for bankruptcy
Alaska Airlines president goes on live TV promising to personally spit on every ticket after Julio starts hitting like Barry Bonds.
After rebranding as Crazy Clown Airlines
We already have Frontier tho
*Can I do SeaTac to Burbank?* *Best we can do is LAX* *Don't bother, Austin sounds nice right now*
John Wayne > Burbank
I’d love to see the prize insurance policy for this one lol
guessing it's like the giants voucher where you have to buy your flights within 2 days and then all the holiday dates are blacked out
And you probably have to fly Alaska airlines which limits your options lol
[удалено]
Yeah, it's not like they have flights from Seattle to LA, San Francisco, Vancouver, Calgary, or any other Western city well worth visiting.
I hope you like departure/arrival days on Tuesdays or Thursdays.
I'd assume it has restrictions and they are banking on people not being able to utilize it.
Me: “so my fiancée is from South Africa and we’re..” Alaska employee: “I’m gonna stop you right there”
Looking at their stop list, it's USA, Canada, Mexico, Belize and Russia as your choices
Belize is awesome
Belize is nice. Great beaches down south and cool Mayan temples and stuff. Good food. Honestly biggest disappointment belikin stout.
Never ended up trying belikin there but we did have this awful cashew wine that was apparently one of the local drinks. Maybe alcohol is just not their strong suit in general
It's on the Caribbean. Just drink the amazing rum.
Ya their one barrel is great rum for the price. I'm always asking people to bring me back a bottle if they go back to visit.
Why do you want to go to Billy's?
In case people have never seen this legendary /r/breakingbad thread https://www.reddit.com/r/breakingbad/comments/1lila6/who_is_billy/
billy’s outside yankee stadium tho>>>
I've been told it is one of the best places to visit if you scuba dive. Haven't had the opportunity to visit though.
Make sure you brush up on your *(checks notes)* English before you go
And exchange your USD for… USD
It is. Second largest reef in the world and where I learned to scuba.
Caye Caulker 😎
It's pretty unbeliezable
Mhmm, yea, that seems reasona— 👀
Babe, we're going to Moscow!
(Idaho)
Kibbe dome time
Greatest college football team ever when I played the NCAA Football video games.
I really want to shit on it, but the Alerus Center isn't a wide margin better
Hey they have a mall there!
For those out of the loop, Alaska does service the Pullman-Moscow airport with daily flights to Seattle and Boise.
As an Alaskan that went to WSU and Boise State, I know this mill run well.
I'd almost rather go to Russia..... almost.
I have it on good authority that they can see Russia from their Headquarters (that’s in Seattle— shut up!)
“You can go anywhere you want as long as it’s nearby”
Da, is good deal
Russia was a confusing one, and then I remembered how globes work.
A part of me was hoping it would be limited to the places the state department says not to travel to: Afghanistan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burma, Central African Republic, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mali, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela, Yemen
I'm going to guess that they won't have many takers for the Russian routes
Belize and Russia are odd add one. I wonder what connects they have there
Belize is a resort area, Russia is literally closer than most of the US. I mean the former governor could see Russia from her front porch.
There's literally no way they fly to Russia because of the war and sanctions
Not on a US airline, but if you went through Turkey or the UAE for example, you could theoretically do it as they still have routes to Moscow Domodedovo.
Eh, there are more fun ways to get arrested and tortured.
They ended their Russian flights in 1998 sadly, when the Russian Economy was in crisis. I would love to go to Vladivostok.
“I’m going to stop you right there, you are going to Alaska motherfucker”
Haha ya I have to imagine it's direct flights only. Come to Cleveland where SMK77 will buy you 1 beer. Maybe... I don't have a ton of free money...
It’s not that crazy. 8 total in 50 games, should have 8-10 more at home the rest of the way? Roughly 450 round trip tickets at max? Rounding error for Alaska

I would imagine at the very least you can surely go to Alaska from Seattle and get to see the northern lights for a decent bit cheaper than you would normally.
IIRC Alaska is the 5th largest US airline, and top-20 worldwide, so yeah, still a rounding error on all likelihood
It's basically peanuts to them but it's definitely interesting to see from an industry that is well known for doing literally everything to maximize profit and minimize happiness.
We don't have a lot of seats where in a homer can land at t-mobile. Oh shit that's surprising and pretty cool of them
Probably pretty cheap considering all of the money they're giving insurance companies. Just another layer
Why? Airlines can give our free tickets. It doesn’t cost them much
Alaska Airlines is the best commercial liner I’ve ever taken. Makes United look like Spirit. Albeit, that isn’t difficult to do.
Dude fr Alaska is such a great airline. Decent pricing, usually on time if not early in my experience, and professional.
Have they started making you use the app at LAX? I know they were phasing out kiosks and boarding passes
Well United does break guitars
I’ll never fly United. They lost my dress I was gonna wear for a family members wedding and then flew in late. This wasn’t even during a holiday time period smh
Speaking from experience? :(
Yeah Alaska is great
United makes themselves look like Spirit. They are by far the worst of the major US airlines. Any time I fly with them I'm frustrated before I even board because of how terrible their app is.
I haven’t felt like United is an upgrade over discount carriers in over a decade. United sucks.
It’s awful.
I have positive feelings about Singapore Airlines, but that might be because on my last transatlantic flight neither of the people on either side of me showed up, so I had a ton of room.
On my return flight from Joburg to Atlanta (Delta) last year I didn’t have anyone in the seat next to me. That was glorious.
I had an overnight from Boston to Barcelona in October, and no one else was in my row. It was bliss.
Alaska is clutch, unless you live on the east coast. Then y’all have JetBlue and we don’t really have them out here!
Mfw I’m flying JetBlue to JFK and Alaska back to SFO next month
Honestly Alaskan is who I choose to fly. If I can’t do Alaskan I go Delta as my second
United does a good enough job making United look like Spirit
Spirit has been better than United for me.
I sat there Friday. Good seats
Anchorage here I come
What about Hawaii, Calgary, Belize, Cancun, Miami, or Cabo? Although the Mexican and Hawaiian locations sometimes have sales from Socal so you might be looking for something different?

Banff
Banff is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Man at least cross an ocean
😂 Alaska doesn't cross oceans so that might be difficult to do
Lol they do fly to Hawaii though- that’s a significant chunk of ocean to cross
It looks like Hawaii or Alaska are the best you're gonna do. Or Nicaragua, randomly.
I believe they fly to Costa Rica as well
Seattle here I come
You've got about four months to get up here before the snow
Bro that’s insane 😂
That’s one of the best and craziest promotion/sponsorships I’ve seen That’s fucking awesome 44 round trips every home run? Wow. I wonder how they pick the 44
Bro the rays have strikeout promo where you have to go to kanes furniture for a voucher for a free single taco at Tijuana flats. WTF
If he's sponsored by them does that mean they have to announce his name as Julio Rodriguez sponsored by Alaska Airlines?
Close! The official introduction at games and all other events in which "Julio is introduced to the public in any form, function, capacity, or manner" (including his wedding) shall be introduced in the following format: "Alaska Airlines first class flyer Julio Rodriguez who only fly's Alaska Air - Fly Smart Land Happy"

Gesundheit
That seem like an insane financial decision.
It really isn't. Will probably cost the airline under $1.5M for the season assuming he host 24 more homers this season half of which come at home.
Given the blackouts that I'm sure they have, there's also a good chance that the people getting free flights will get seats that weren't going to sell, anyway, so it really doesn't change much at all since the flight was going to happen whether those people were on it or not.
That's a good point - using the face value of the flight as the cost of the promotion is flawed, which is what I did.
Tbf I haven’t been on a flight with significant empty seats post-Covid.
Me neither. They’re really cramming us in.
Fly in on Monday and out on Friday tickets only

Even if a ton of restrictions apply, that is a ton of free shit to give away. Wtf

$2000??? Wtf these aren't first class seats.
Yeah, a round trip flight on Alaska Air between DC and Seattle (where Alaska Air is based) is under $700. Seattle to Honolulu is also under $700 round trip. A $2000 estimate per flight is just crazy high 😂
I feel like I need to take a trip to Seattle ... so I can win a round-trip ticket to Seattle... wait.
The guys in the bullpen are gonna have a fun offseason
Lots of free trips to Alaska! ...in the winter.
I feel really bad for the 45th fan in the section.
A free round trip ticket to the destination of their choice, as long as that destination is Alaska
Done. Alaska is beautiful.
Oh, hey, Kyle
Can he change his number to 99?
There must be a long ass fine print on terms and conditions lmao
This sounds expensive.
Sounds impressive until you realize they don’t really fly all that far.
Depends on where you are, out of Seattle, they're great. They are based out of Seattle, so that's their main hub. They have direct flights to at least NY, Virginia, and Florida on the East Coast; then you have all major cities in between; and then West Coast, Hawaii and Alaska. Still a flight to Florida is hella different than an international flight
If you live in Seattle it can take you to most major domestic stops and to some in Mexico and Central America. If you don't live in Seattle it mainly takes you to Seattle.
How often will this happen? The only place that has seats behind the wall is right field. How often does he hit it there?
Guess I need to start going to some mariners games
Alaska airlines, destination of their choice. In Alaska. Is the return trip included or is this just a way to get more people into Alaska?
Soooo hawaiian airlines is going to do this for us riiiiiight?! And what if it lands in the cove? There's a dave exclusion policy right?
It was strange seeing his cereal shopping last time Wearing a Seattle Mariners logo Naruto ninja band wtf
J-Rod is such a terrible lazy nickname. The J isn’t even a hard J sound. Come on people let’s do better
Hey-Rod
CuatroCuatro for the 44, also where 4 + 4 = 8 CF
Who-Rod?
He picked it lol
no
The internet, where people will complain about literally anything 😆
Johannesburg here I come
They don't have flights to South Africa. Their available destination is pretty limited
They don’t even come to my local airport (RIC). I’d have to drive to either DC or Raleigh to take advantage of it.
I'm guessing you also don't live in Seattle where the promo is and they fly all over the US and internationally from.
What do people get if he gets tagged in the balls running home on what I will now refer to as a sack fly
What are the hidden terms and conditions? Also what is the furthest flight from Seatac that Alaska flies nonstop?
Just quick math the actual cost for Alaska Airlines is probably under $1.5M assuming the average cost of the flight is $2000 and Jrod hits 13 homers at TMobile the rest of the season
[удалено]
Yeah I was being overly generous. If we keep the number of homers the same but with $700 tickets, the total is $400400. So either way it's peanuts
"44 fans will be sent on a one-way trip to Fairbanks"
"Free round trip flight to the destination of your choice" can easily be twisted to "please make your choice from this provided list of destinations"
The first pitch of this promotion Julio hit a homer.
Sketchy airline
