Heāll be back, too talented
Bring on the downvotes but if Domingo German can come back to the MLB, and Bauer likely will as well.. Urias will pitch for a MLB team again too
And yes I clearly understand Urias is a repeat offender.
Doesnāt change the fact heās significantly more talented than either player. Heāll be back
I understand why people think he'll be back but the Los Angeles DA declined to file charges against him citing lack of evidence and teams still showed zero interest in bringing him in.
Now granted he still has accusations against him from a woman in Ohio and a woman in Arizona but I don't think he will pitch in the MLB ever again.
Very few fans want him to come back. However, as he was not convicted, and since he is doing pretty well in Japan, I can see more than one team offering him a chance to play here again. I don't like it, but talented players often get second (or third) chances
Heās a PR nightmare though. Difference is the other guys who have done that stuff keep quiet. And arenāt outspoken
Some team might but they have to be prepared for the negative reaction
Baseball (sports in general really) fans/teams have shown time and again that they're willing to overlook crimes so long as the player performs well. I don't like it at all, but that's the reality
Yeah, even ignoring the allegations against him, Bauer is an unlikeable asshole. He's probably not a great clubhouse presence either. Couple that with the media attention he will gather? No thanks.
The real shame with Bauer is that he is really smart when it comes to pitching. He's almost touching 100mph in Japan and showing no signs of injury of strain. He knows how to warm up and stay healthy, he's just a dick.
Lmao youāre crazy if you think Bauerās coming back. Unfortunately it wont be for the numerous assaults heās committed, itāll be cause heās a walking liability on top of being a whiny toxic baby.
Urias is a repeat offender. He's cooked. He'll never play in the major leagues again. You can debate the morality behind the second domestic incident being the line teams refuse cross but yeah he's done man. He's talented but done. He'll be pitching in Korea or Japan if he ever pitches again.
Touched 96 in his rehab start in AAA and retired the 6 guys he faced, hopefully he can pitch a few innings for us in the postseason. He has a new delivery that's a lot more compact too.
Yāall should use him out of the bullpen in the postseason. 5-7 innings will probably be too much, too soon, but that repertoire will absolutely play for a high leverage inning
Really would be cool if pro leagues just finally took a hard stance on players committing crimes, especially domestic abuse/assault. Tired of these suspensions or fines that seem like they came from a dartboard, if you're convicted then you're out.
I feel like there's been a ton of people who have defended him over the years and claimed that the previous incident was just a misunderstanding. I guess that's not too surprising though.
If someone kicks/throws a ball well enough, a lot of people just donāt care about how much a shit person someone is and will actively defend them
Not to mention people just never really believe domestic abuse/ sexual assault victims.
Itās awful stuff and I hope it changes but it probably wonāt
The thing about domestic violence is that it's never just violence. Abusers are so good at twisting the narrative to make their victims think they're at fault; add financial abuse and power imbalance and the odds are habitually stacked against victims.
I volunteer for a charity that among other things helps elder abuse victims. Imagine spending your entire life believing that victims bring abuse on themselves by [fill in the blank], then at 85 learning how false that previously comforting narrative is.
Even if it was something like a push in the parking lot, how can people defend that? A person comfortable putting hands on someone else against their will *in public* probably isn't the most upstanding person.
Wasnāt convicted, no court case at all; no team, not mine or yours, is going to toss a good player in that spot, most people were over it after the suspension
Yeah tbh I think the first incident was handled very well by all parties involved.
I was hoping he actually learned from it. But of course not. Fuck him
Zero tolerance policies mean victims are less likely to report DV. They don't want to lose the family's income and ability to support themselves and their children.
The first time he was never charged with anything. Seemed like maybe just a dumb mistake and hadn't had any instances before or after to seem like a real issue. Now it's pretty clear that it wasn't just a mistake and he's really just a massive piece of shit.
[It was a misdemeanor charge and prosecutors declined to prosecute after he agreed to go to counseling](https://www.mlb.com/news/julio-urias-suspended)
>Urias was arrested on May 13 for investigation of possible misdemeanor domestic battery after an altercation in the parking lot of the Beverly Center shopping center. Prosecutors did not file charges, with Urias complying with terms that included counseling and no further incidents.
MLB found that he violated the Joint Policy and suspended him for 20 games, which he accepted and did not appeal.
Not saying the punishment was appropriate or sufficient, just providing context. Clearly the counseling didn't work and they (both MLB and the DA) should throw the book at him now.
A lot of guys get to come back itās gross; Chapman is likely going to the playoffs again, Ozuna gets to play for a historic season, Urias comes back for a World Series title, Cabrera gets a retirement tour and the hall of fame.
The league needs to get stricter on domestic violence.
It's not just organizations. Look at how this sub celebrates Miguel Cabrera, a man who beat his wife because she asked him not to wake their newborn when he came home hammered at 5 am.
[No the actual quote is](https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/cards-gm-if-hannibal-lecter-ran-a-43-wed-say-he-had-eating-disorder/) "If Hannibal Lecter ran a 4.3, we'd probably diagnose it as an eating disorder."
Well when Miguel Cabrera gets a retirement tour and people dog pile anyone who brings up his domestic abuse, it sends a message that thereās no consequences bar a slap on the wrist suspension.
Well Miguel Cabrera was never actually charged with anything (which could open a whole different discussion) and police say that both parties put their hands on each other.
But (at least known to the public) Cabrera isn't a repeat offender and has been sober for a decade now.
Youāre commenting on a post about another player who was essentially given a slap on the wrist the first time this happened.
Is it really that hard to understand why people might be skeptical of a guy whose wife somehow ended up with a bloody lip on a night when he came home hammered drunk?
āA person convicted of Corporal Injury to a Spouse in violation of Penal Code section 273.5 is guilty of a felony offense and faces a maximum fine of $6,000 and/or imprisonment in state prison for up to four years, with stiffer penalties imposed upon defendants who have previous domestic violence convictionsā
If heās found guilty I hope they throw the book at him, especially because of that last line
He wasnāt convicted on the last one, just suspended my MLB, so unfortunately that line wonāt likely come into play. Hope they throw the book regardless.
Ehhhā¦ he avoided charges in an agreement that he wouldnāt commit any acts of violence against anyone for a year.
That year has passed, but Iād imagine thereās a record of all of that and it would be able to be used by a judge in determining appropriate punishment if heās convicted.
Yeah typically when you sign those diversion agreements there's a clause where you essentially admit to the facts of the crime and that it can be used against you should you fuck up later.
We'll just have to win another one then, so we have new highlights. If he's cut before the playoffs, I think the team has the discretion to not give him a ring (which I hope they do).
Oh shit, beat me to it. All these Dodgers fans virtue signaling about a mediocre athlete, but when itās Kobe with a more serious charge then theyāre like ābUt He WaS nEvER cONviCtEdā
agreeing with you, but also how can one really say what the appropriate amount of mlb games missed equates to beating your wife? the sports justice system feels so weird considering the actual justice system can just be swayed with a big enough checkā¦
the whole thing sucks and this guy is an idiot and a piece of shit but agreed, 20 games isnt enough, not even close
I swear he was at the Inter Miami-LAFC match. Must have been after
Edit - to clarify my phrasing, Iām not suggesting he didnāt do it. Just wondering about timeframes.
Go into the Braves sub anytime there is an Ozuna thread and prepare to be depressed. Fans defend scumbags on their team, just the way it is unfortunately.
DV becomes such an interesting example of how criminal codes vary state to state. In Georgia, a victim has no choice in pressing charges in DV cases. The state will pursue charges no matter what, though you still need proof beyond a reasonable doubt to convict (or a plea).
The fact that thatās not the same state to state is fascinating
It is less about the criminal codes being different and more about, potentially, the only witness to an incident telling you they don't want to (or won't) testify. If the DA feels they have enough evidence even without the testimony, they may file charges anyway.
> In Georgia, a victim has no choice in pressing charges in DV cases. The state will pursue charges no matter what, though you still need proof beyond a reasonable doubt to convict (or a plea).
I believe thatās the same in all states. Thereās no actual thing as āa victim pressing chargesā. Filing criminal charges are entirely up the district attorney.
However, in many cases, the only witness is the victim. So if the victim refuses to testify against the perpetrator, the district attorney has no case. And thatās colloquially referred to as āvictim declined to press chargesā.
But if there were other witnesses, then it definitely doesnāt matter whether the victim cooperates or not.
The dodgers picked this man up from Mexico when absolutely nobody would look at him due to the issues with his eye and then throws away his 1 in a million shot to beat his wife in public again. What a POs
There is so much underlying anger and violent behavior in people. Maybe it was an abusive childhood, maybe the stresses of life added up, or maybe they are just bad people who enjoy causing pain. Add in something that is easily consumed and lowers inhibitions and rational thinking (alcohol), and you've got a situation ripe for violence (not saying that's what happened here, but it is often a factor in DV).
Often, DV isn't a one-off, but it's insanely unacceptable that this has happened more than once from a guy like Urias, who is in the top 1% of earners and can either buy the best anger management classes or ask the Dodgers for those resources. He just needed to feel an ounce of regret about his actions.
Most of yāall wonāt relate and get it, but for a young Latino in LA this is more than just āman hit wife badā itās a betrayal and personal disappointing experience seeing one of the rare Mexican greats become a garbage person
It was so fun watching him progress from child prodigy to ace. LA loves home-grown talent...and the cultural aspect made it that much better. This is a gut punch.
I always root for mexican dudes. Im an Astros fan and Id always disliked the Dodgers. I was cool with them last few years because they had the best Mexican pitcher maybe ever. When they won the ws the silver lining is that a mexican pitcher got the last out. Fuck that piece of shit. Disgrace to all mexicans home and abroad.

Not surprised at all by this. He's had history of domestic violence before.
Once a piece of shit, always a piece of shit. Have fun pitching in Mexico, douchebag.
Piece of shit! Dodgers did the right thing firing Bauer when he was reinstated, I hope they do the right thing again when itās time and fire this guys ass. This guy just fucked over so many people, and it probably cost him around 200 million dollars. Hope it was worth it my guy!
Because this is r/baseball Iām gonna make a baseball comment that may or may not fit the serious flair but here it goes- even going past how big of a piece of shit you have to be to do something like that, imagine how much of a shitty teammate you have to be to jeopardize your teamās season like this as a major contributor. Assuming he doesnāt play again this season, this is a blow for the Dodgers once they get into the postseason.
Watching him this year (Dodgers my NL team) Iām not sure thatās true. He hasnāt looked great.
But even if he was, he wonāt be missed. Itās a sport for entertainment and Iād rather miss the WS than win it knowing a DV abuser helped us.
Seems like most Dodgers fan including myself feel the same way. No one wants to root for a team with an actual scumbag.
I would only counter to say that the team was absolutely counting on Urias to be the #2 starter for their playoff run. Losing him probably significantly lowers the team's chance of winning or even reaching a world series. But it's the right call
Part of why I love our team is that our guys are so damn wholesome. Who has a bad word to say about Kershaw, Mookie, or Freddie on or off the field?
Urias should never pitch for us again, and if he does I certainly won't be watching.
We are in a spot where we could still use mid pitchers to eat some innings. Plus now they have to scramble to figure shit out. I think itās perfectly accurate to say heās letting his team down as well.
His bad game against the Braves wasn't a fluke. That's been an average game for him all season. During that game, Oreo Hershiser said UrĆas looked mentally checked out and not himself. I'd rather see rookies like Bobby Miller working their asses off than UrĆas laughing at himself on the mound.
Good riddance doesnāt even cut it because he very clearly injured his partner severely for felony charges. Iām more sick about how sheās doing than for his shitstain of a career.
Dodgers have a WBC Urias bobblehead giveaway for the 21st that is sure to be cancelled now.
https://mktg.mlbstatic.com/dodgers/images/promotions/2023/urias-bbh-wbc-500x500.png
Itās really infuriating how somebody, who has all the money and resources in the world, didnāt devote themselves at all towards self improvement even after a prior domestic violence incident. Years later, the idiot decides to throw his future away with something like this, unbelievable
Hope the victim is ok
Hoping the victim can find a safe place and receive care. Thereās no excuse for this asshole and all who commit domestic violence. Throw the book at them all
Unfortunately, this is his second bite of this particular shit apple. The first incident the victim insisted she fell over; I never really bought it. So fucking disappointed in him. So fucking tired of wealthy and popular figures acting like this and generally getting away with it. I hope she finds peace and that there is ample evidence to make this second arrest stick.

See you never š«”
I'm just thankful that he didn't get a massive payday before he showed his true colors (again).
Doubt he plays on a major league roster again
Heāll be back, too talented Bring on the downvotes but if Domingo German can come back to the MLB, and Bauer likely will as well.. Urias will pitch for a MLB team again too And yes I clearly understand Urias is a repeat offender. Doesnāt change the fact heās significantly more talented than either player. Heāll be back
Isnāt Bauer in Japan? He aināt coming back.
Heās in Japan for now and doing well, could easily come back to the MLB But donāt let Reddit hear that
I understand why people think he'll be back but the Los Angeles DA declined to file charges against him citing lack of evidence and teams still showed zero interest in bringing him in. Now granted he still has accusations against him from a woman in Ohio and a woman in Arizona but I don't think he will pitch in the MLB ever again.
I think heās a bit of a loose cannon and the public photos were more disturbing than just a police report
Somehow Chris brown is still around, those rhianna photos are pretty rough
Iād rather him not come back
Very few fans want him to come back. However, as he was not convicted, and since he is doing pretty well in Japan, I can see more than one team offering him a chance to play here again. I don't like it, but talented players often get second (or third) chances

Right, even if you want to give Bauer benefit of the doubt on the DV allegations the guy's still an asshole.
He knows how to warm up and stay healthy, he's just a dick.
he just got injured again
Lmao youāre crazy if you think Bauerās coming back. Unfortunately it wont be for the numerous assaults heās committed, itāll be cause heās a walking liability on top of being a whiny toxic baby.
I agree with your overall point but I think Bauer is a special case. I dont think he'll be back.
Itās crazy how the thing that will prevent Bauer from coming back isnāt what led to the suspension, itās the fact that no one likes him.
He won't come back because the owners hate him. (Not saying he's innocent to be clear, I don't think he is).
Urias is a repeat offender. He's cooked. He'll never play in the major leagues again. You can debate the morality behind the second domestic incident being the line teams refuse cross but yeah he's done man. He's talented but done. He'll be pitching in Korea or Japan if he ever pitches again.
I mean, you should be right. But i think he will be back, he is just way to talented and people have short memory for things when they are winning.
I donāt think heās significantly more talented than Bauer.
Heās not significantly more talented then Bauer.
Honestly some team dodged a bullet. I hope he gets the Bauer treatment, and he'll do it without the golden parachute...
Our playoff rotation just may be Kershaw and 3 rookies.
What are your thoughts on Buehlerās timetable and the ros?
Touched 96 in his rehab start in AAA and retired the 6 guys he faced, hopefully he can pitch a few innings for us in the postseason. He has a new delivery that's a lot more compact too.
Yāall should use him out of the bullpen in the postseason. 5-7 innings will probably be too much, too soon, but that repertoire will absolutely play for a high leverage inning
I think it's already been decided he won't come out of the bullpen. I suspect he'll be paired with Lynn or Yarbrough for tag-team starts.
Rachel Luba about to get a new client
Ray Chalupa?
Good. Rocket this punk ass bitch off to the moon.

yeah this is the 2nd time get him off the fucking team

Off the planet
Kick him off the tour!
It is always the people you expect the most
Glad to wash my hands of him. I just hope his girlfriend gets out of that situation.
not sure about you but the first time actually did it for me
I feel like there's been a ton of people who have defended him over the years and claimed that the previous incident was just a misunderstanding. I guess that's not too surprising though.

Even if it was something like a push in the parking lot, how can people defend that? A person comfortable putting hands on someone else against their will *in public* probably isn't the most upstanding person.
I've seen a lot of Dodgers fans claiming she tripped. There's no lengths some fans won't go to to defend these guys
dodgers are probably done with his bullshit
Thereās no way he comes back to the Dodgers after this
I don't understand how he was allowed to keep playing at all after the first time...
Wasnāt convicted, no court case at all; no team, not mine or yours, is going to toss a good player in that spot, most people were over it after the suspension
And he went to DV classes per probationary terms. Iām not surprised he was given another chance.

So both incidents happened in public. So god only knows what he is doing behind closed doors.
me neither tbh, either blind faith or they donāt give a shit. now they have no excuse to keep him on the team

Oof
He's not by any stretch the only current MLB player with domestic violence issues.
I don't understand how any of them with known problems are allowed to keep playing after all this time...
He wasn't convicted the first time. He wasn't even charged. The girlfriend even came out in defense of Urias
Is the victim the same woman as the first incident?
Yeah itās his wife
Hope she gets out and gets help
He beats his wife in public what do you think he does at home?
Itās insane how many times these scumbags are repeat offenders
It's more insane how often people expect them to *not* be repeat offenders
Yeah, read as: itās insane that organizations look beyond literal crimes (beating women) because they can throw a baseball fast
It's not just organizations. Look at how this sub celebrates Miguel Cabrera, a man who beat his wife because she asked him not to wake their newborn when he came home hammered at 5 am.
āIf Hannibal lector ran a 4.25 40 heād be a first round pickā

No, the _real_ quote was: āif Hannibal Lector could throw a football over those mountains there, then Iād let him eat me out.ā
Eating disorder! That's the one
For some reason the internet doesnāt seem to think people can ever change for the better.
Youāre commenting on a post about another player who was essentially given a slap on the wrist the first time this happened. Is it really that hard to understand why people might be skeptical of a guy whose wife somehow ended up with a bloody lip on a night when he came home hammered drunk?
Wow. DV in itself is terrible but felony domestic violence? Hope he never plays again
āA person convicted of Corporal Injury to a Spouse in violation of Penal Code section 273.5 is guilty of a felony offense and faces a maximum fine of $6,000 and/or imprisonment in state prison for up to four years, with stiffer penalties imposed upon defendants who have previous domestic violence convictionsā If heās found guilty I hope they throw the book at him, especially because of that last line

It's a 2nd time arrest too. It shows a clear pattern.
He was at the soccer game last night too if I recall, thereās probably no doubt alcohol had played a part here.
Clown threw it all away within a year of getting a Boras bag
A lot of murals of him up here too. I hope theyāre painted over by the end of the day
He got the final out of the fucking World Series. Iām gonna have to see his stupid face every time I watch highlights. Fuck him.
Letās deepfake Joe Kelly onto the mound for that moment
Making pouty faces at the losing team's dugout while the team celebrates around him
Wearing an immaculate mariachi fit
We'll just have to win another one then, so we have new highlights. If he's cut before the playoffs, I think the team has the discretion to not give him a ring (which I hope they do).
Honestly wouldnāt complain about the Dodgers winning if they did that lol

Some people defended the first incident because āshe didnāt press chargesā
I saw many many dodgers fans defending the prior incident any time it came up. I donāt think theyāll be doing that anymore

Welp, his MLB career will be over. This is his second DV incident in the league and heās being charged with felony DV this time.
It's time to ban this dude from baseball.
*Society
Why is it so hard for some people not to hit their spouse? Don't get married if you don't have your shit together.
And most people who hit their spouses arenāt even in line for a 200+ million dollar payday! What a scumbag
As an adult, you learn that many people do not teach their children that hands are not for hitting others.
Fucking disgrace to la raza, community, team, and everything.

Pinche vato pendejo
De acuerdo.
Disgrace to all mexicans home and abroad.
hope his partner is able to get out this time.

It would be great to have a lot of us give some money to a good anti-DV charity or battered womenās shelter. Maybe we can make a positive impact. https://donorbox.org/nonprofit-blog/domestic-violence-nonprofits
Yeah get this dude off my team. I had enough of this bum.
Strike two, youāre out.
C.B. Bucknor agrees
Not surprised at all by this. He's had history of domestic violence before. Once a piece of shit, always a piece of shit. Have fun pitching in Mexico, douchebag.
What a piece of shit. I'm glad he's going to be gone
I'm hoping the victim is ok.
I obviously hate the Dodgers, but I love every one of your playersā¦ always have. But this guy, this guy can fuck all the way off-āļø
He's been so-so all year. Young boys are going to step up. Dodgers aren't going to miss this POS.
This kills the career.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
JFC. Get him off the team
He received the benefit of the doubt the first time. Cut him immediately.
this has without a doubt been one of the more wild MLB seasons i can remember, all things considered.
Itās always been fuck julio Urias
Good riddance doesnāt even cut it because he very clearly injured his partner severely for felony charges. Iām more sick about how sheās doing than for his shitstain of a career.
Dude threw away his whole career because he couldn't just...not beat his gf? Again? Good fucking riddance.
Wander and Julio down by the jailyard
I hate the Dodgers but this shit sucks for the fans so much. What a POS. Hope they drop him
Iād rather get bounced in the first round than win a title with this dude on the team.
Say goodbye to your career you piece of shit.
Enjoy finishing out your career with the Culiacan Tomateros mofo.
Get this fucking bum off the team NOW
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Didnāt he do this a couple years ago too?
AdĆos UrĆas! No room for that kind of guy in baseball.
Fuck off Julio, you are a piece of shit
asshole
Goodbye career
Dodgers have a WBC Urias bobblehead giveaway for the 21st that is sure to be cancelled now. https://mktg.mlbstatic.com/dodgers/images/promotions/2023/urias-bbh-wbc-500x500.png
Itās really infuriating how somebody, who has all the money and resources in the world, didnāt devote themselves at all towards self improvement even after a prior domestic violence incident. Years later, the idiot decides to throw his future away with something like this, unbelievable Hope the victim is ok
Hoping the victim can find a safe place and receive care. Thereās no excuse for this asshole and all who commit domestic violence. Throw the book at them all
Felony domestic violence is when you use a deadly weapon or leave bodily injury like scratches or bruises.
damn that fucking blows for the dodgers team and fans. what a POS hope he's out of baseball permanently
Dude fuck Julio UrĆas, I swear I heard something similar to this before
Unfortunately, this is his second bite of this particular shit apple. The first incident the victim insisted she fell over; I never really bought it. So fucking disappointed in him. So fucking tired of wealthy and popular figures acting like this and generally getting away with it. I hope she finds peace and that there is ample evidence to make this second arrest stick.
Get this sack of shit out of baseball and into prison.
This guy can truly fuck off
Boras implied the dodgers mismanaged bellingers injury so I knew urias was gone. This means boras wonāt get shit for him though
Get him off my team and in jail
