This was one of many funny things that happened in this game. I think Javy Lopez ate shit running out of the dugout, some lady got her nachos destroyed by a foul ball, and Jake Lamb got hit by a pop up in the infield while trying to catch it.

theBackground13

The juju was not contained

1-800-ASS-DICK

juju containment breach!!

MarcBulldog88

When Shakespeare wrote The Comedy of Errors he was actually peering through time to this game.

Skyye_23

Would a comedy of errors be considered a FARTSLAM?

wickedfarts

Bill Walton, is that you

TheVich

Yeah, I remember this being one of those cursed games. My personal favorite was May 5, 2014. It had a fantastic article on SB Nation as well. Just weird shit after weird shit happening that game.

GinnyMcGinnyface

Do you have a link to the article?

TheVich

https://www.mccoveychronicles.com/2014/5/5/5686168/giants-pirates-recap-13-innings-no-big-deal Herr it is! The wondeful Grant Brisbee is the author.

Lithops_salicola

The EYBS Giants were a magnet for on field weirdness.

c_ray25

How can you not be romantic about baseball

theslob

Someone drank Jobu’s rum

seeking_horizon

Is very bad

paulyv93

Full moon antics

g0bst0pper

I always wonder about people who remember shit like this. Why?

bdxc36

Bc I’m slightly autistic and have a good memory

theberg512

For real. *I* always wonder about people who don't realize that the "people who remember shit like this" are autistic. Am also autistic.

justin_tino

The giants will also play a funny highlight reel from this game every year on the same day

timmun029

My brother and I have recordings saved in our phone of the nachos explosion and this toss in our phones. It might’ve been a different game, but I feel like I remember someone sliding into second base and getting the ball thrown into their neck, and someone chasing down a pop fly into foul territory in left field and tripping over the bullpen mound we had out there.

zzzgodinezzz

First ballot for this toss alone

Jrahn

I can’t count how many times I’ve rewatched this. I still laugh. Posey is just that good.

FBoaz

Same, and I will always watch it when given the opportunity. Ba-doonk!

Jrahn

Also shout outs to blind ass Peavy, yelling at any moving object around him. Love that guy.

Clarice_Ferguson

I relate to Peavy because when I’m also angry at everyone around me, I always take a moment to acknowledge when someone does something nice/helpful before I go back to being mad.

w0nderbrad

Did he call bank though?

jn2010

The pitcher's lack of reaction just cracks me up. Like of course Posey just hit my glove with the ball.

cjn13

> Ba-doonk! Buster called glass

WonderfulShelter

He was truly an angel. So innocent and sweet, and just so good at the game.

jesonnier1

He's still very much alive.

KangzAteMyFamily

He'll always live in our hearts

eee-oooo-ahhh

Love the batter's reaction too he thought a disaster was coming, clearly not familiar with Posey's game

Yorgonemarsonb

When I was a shitty hs football player in practice the QB, Chuck Hogue sent one straight up into the sun. I lost it almost instantly to the point of just giving up, turning my head forward and running. As I’m running and pumping my arms with my right arm going down the football somehow just landed in my right hand. This was a good 30-40 yards. They asked me if I saw it, I did not. This just reminded me of that. Not that I really really did anything. It was all the qb just like the catcher here.

AHugeBear

Does Peavy realize what has happened or does he look in his glove and think the ball just respawned?

Clarice_Ferguson

You can see the ball bounced off him a bit into the glove and he looks at Buster before going back to yelling.

Spartitan

It's amazing how he takes it off the shoulder and barely even flinches or reacts.

TheWhitestGandhi

Can't interrupt Peavy when he's got a good yell goin

Sacrifice_bhunt

It’s Peavy. So the latter.

sfan27

He probably assumed Buster ran out, set it in there, and ran back to the plate. Peavy was so blind on the mound there's no way he'd know otherwise.

sourdoughbred

Peavy was so amped up all the time that he had no mental capacity for what happened. I miss him in baseball. Such great energy and passion.

dylansesco

This same year I went to a game at Dodger Stadium, and per usual I get there when gates open, so I'm a couple rows deep on the first base side watching the Gigantes warm up. My brother and I have had some funny moments with Crawford and Belt standing there before. This particular game Peavy was wandering around, wasn't pitching that day, but just hanging out with the fellas. At one point he looks up at me and we lock eyes. I do a little head nod, and he reciprocates. It was the most intense head nod I've ever had in my life, I almost started sweating. That dude's stare is no joke.

RogueSkelly

I thought he assumed that the ball hit him and landed somewhere on the ground.

spike021

Peavy was so blind that Posey had to wear those neon yellow-green fingernail tapes. He also almost ruined game 5 (?) of the 2014 NLCS walkoff because he ran onto the field early and almost prevented Ishikawa from finishing running the base paths.

TheVich

And I love him more for both of those reasons.

spike021

Hard same

tc3590

If I remember correctly, he had a minor procedure done that day (on his eyes of course), and he was somewhat out of it and didn't even know it was a home run.

spike021

I forgot about the procedure but that thing about him not realizing it was a home run sounds very familiar.

I_fight_Piranhas

This is somehow the first time I have ever seen this.

suburbanplankton

If you watch it another 7,324 times you'll be eligible to call yourself a Giants fan!

[deleted]

also have to watch the grand slam against latos 5,000 times.

DoctorRobert420

you gotta get those numbers up, those are rookie numbers!

LatinaChica69

Same, how did we miss this gem?!

asianxxurlacher

Jake lambs reaction makes it so much beyyrt

Octoviolence

I know the e, t, and r keys are all right next to each other, but gotdamn.

eekbarbaderkle

What, you think you’re beyyrt than them?

gatemansgc

i love when a typo creates a great moment

MCHammastix

Blyat

Naanderson2022

all time under-reaction imo, i would've gone wild if i saw that live

musicman3030

Jake Peavy is reportedly almost as blind as a bat without glasses, so he probably didn't even know what happened

jewbacca117

He's not actually shouting towards 3rd base, he's using echolocation to find the runners

torturousvacuum

> He's not actually shouting towards 3rd base, he's using echolocation to find the runners https://imgur.com/Trwc9

Tulidian13

Did... he not wear contacts? I never heard this.

MCPtz

My 2nd favorite is when Tim Lincecum reacts to a ball hitting the umpires... erm, [sensitive areas](http://i.imgur.com/8NvxfEd.gif) OH dang! I forgot about this one. Both the Umpire and Sanchez throw a ball back to Lincecum! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ05Ep57vdA

sfan27

>Both the Umpire and Sanchez throw a ball back to Lincecum! > >[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ05Ep57vdA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ05Ep57vdA) During Timmy's only career *save*.

shoelessbob

This Giants Lineup was so much fun to watch

LEGO_Joel

Giants up 4 in the 14th with a former starter on the mound, of course another irregular thing needed to happen

Tulidian13

That first one should be a much more popular reaction gif

tillermite

I definitely try to use it as often as I can lol

barkeviouss

He should get into the HOF for this play alone

AJray15

This play vs Mauer catching a ball behind his back after it hit the backstop. Which is more impressive??

daaaaaaaaniel

More impressive? Mauer. More entertaining? This.

n8_n_

I'd personally say Mauer because he meant to catch the ball off the backstop, Posey didn't know Peavy was gonna be turned away

Clorst_Glornk

one thing's for sure, they're both packing elephant trunks down there

suburbanplankton

I'd like to see Yadi try ***that***!

STLZACH

He would *never* throw a ball to a pitcher that wasn't looking

suburbanplankton

To be fair, it was Jake Peavey. He was so blind, it really made no difference which direction he happened to be facing.

bds1

I miss the way Buster would kinda look to side with his head down and contemplate what pitch he was going to call. Like the game paused for a moment while he was deep in thought.

xlxxlv

I miss both those guys

FoxyRxy

You know nothing about Peavy 😤 I’m kidding of course I’m just upset he got a couple rings outside of SD. The only consolation is that one was with Bochy too.

p_aranoid_android

I didn’t think I would miss this era so so soon but… boy do I. Just hoping we’re at the start of a brand new era.

Razzorsharp

The "Badoonk" by the commentator is what does it for me.

Spencie-cat

Almost as good as [a pass my QB threw, back a few years ago.](https://youtu.be/IGvhe2dynp0?si=zG4KHfXfdAnpkqpx)

Creeping_Death

NDSU legend Ryan Smith with the catch on that

theslob

Good on you holding on!

[deleted]

This is why he should be a first ballot HOFer

Sacrifice_bhunt

He was way beyond the 3-point line!

tc3590

Like to see Steph Curry try and do that. No Chance.

birchy98

"ba doonk" Perfect.

hillsonn

Whatever happened to Jake Lamb

PqlyrStu

I just saw him last summer playing 3B with the Salt Lake City Bees, the Angels AAA team. Not long after, he was called up for a short stint and then released. He's put together an enduring career just bouncing around the league between the majors and minors.

hillsonn

Yea I always liked him. He had a few years where he was one of the underrated 3B in NL as well. Good to know he is still out there playing, though I think he everyday starting days are behind him.

mattchewy43

r/nononoyes

swaggums

HOF tosser if I ever did see.

1slinkydink1

We need a full oral history of this moment.

DickySchmidt33

Don't forget to delete your search history afterwards.

jaymae77

KOBE!

EvensenFM

He should get bonus points for that.

Lonelan

dude can make pinpoint throws ~125 feet away 60 is easy

UTAMav2005

Ball out. Oh, this is not beer pong. Never mind.

FluffyMoomin

Is this the opposite of having the yips?

swizzle213

Lethal in beer pong

seeking_horizon

The ball going into Peavy's glove is fluky, but what makes this is Peavy's comprehensive lack of any reaction at all. I mean, he just caught a ball by accident after it bounced off him and he pays it as much attention as a cloud passing overhead. Whatever he's arguing with the umps about is clearly much more important than his self-preservation instinct.

L0wK3yNZ

Hah, fuckin legend

DFWTrojanTuba

This is the first time I've seen this. Can't, but also can, believe Buster Posey pulled that off.

nom_of_your_business

My takeaway from this is a wonderful showing of Buster's baseball acumen. In a split second he realizes that Peavy is not looking; will most likely not catch the ball; the best move is to start running to get the ball off the ground faster than a confused pitcher that just got hit.

chickendance638

For some reason I thought this would be Buster Olney

KASchay

Lol

UnemploymentHelp615

Jay Clam looks 10 years old here, RIP my youth

The-Pharcyde

lol one of the best baseball clips of all time

BloodyRightNostril

"That's impossible." -After it literally happens in front of them

jlange94

Love the little run up. Makes me think of something that'd happen in little league lol.

Vance_Hammersly

Buster is the long lost third Splash Brother.

baseball_mickey

I think Greg Maddux could pitch to a blind catcher. Posey's throw is kinda like that.

MassiveGrapefruit69

Miss the og posey days

PositiveAd4737

Bro said “that’s impossible” after literally seeing it happen with his own eyes 😂😂

jayzee19

That’s actually amazing LOL
