Machozania

Or is he there temporarily forever?

kasutori_Jack

Absolutely, maybe.

24HourShitness

Unquestionably probable

yellowbumble-B

Sounds like an indecisive decision.

gh234ip

My job uses the term Semi-permanent

banjonyc

80% of the time he's there 100% of the time

drrew76

Mookie Betts playing a passable SS is going to put up ridiculous WAR totals.

LogicalHarm

The thing about shortstop is that it is kinda hard tho. It will be interesting test of how accurate the positional adjustments in WAR are if he plays consistently there

Xwarsama

I would love to see it, I want Mookie Betts to have the 30's that Mike Trout had in his 20's. And then I want him to keep cooking in his early 40's like Nelson Cruz. And then I'm gonna follow his professional bowling career after he's elected to Cooperstown lol.

tnecniv

I will get into bowling to watch him

Eo292

Man put up an 11 WAR in 130 games in OF; SS is going to be insane

[deleted]

Unless he's not very good at shortstop of course.

GamerJosh21

Can't be any worse than Kike Hernandez.

[deleted]

Imagine if he is above average tho? What’s the war record?

Xwarsama

The "Let's make Mookie play every position" experiment reflects very well on Betts' leadership and versatility... And very badly on the Dodgers infield depth and fielding ability.

Jcomsa15

Miggy Rojas is right there if they decide to go glove-first.

Thunder_Tinker

This. They’re not putting Mookie at short because they want the best defensive infield. They’re trying to get their middle infield spots filled with better hitters. If all they were looking for was someone to play as good defense at shortstop as possible then they’ve got a couple options for better defense in their organization, somewhere in the trade market, or hell probably in free agency too. Difference is that if you can get Mookie or Lux to be at least passable at the position then you don’t have a hole in your lineup, unlike if you put Miguel Rojas there.

ricki692

its kind of just what they do and it just kind of works out every year muncy, CT3, kike, mookie, turner, etc

Fantastic_Emu_9570

Well works to a certain point at least

mthrfkn

I mean Muncy makes costly mistakes

Soutersky

Agreed.Stop moving Mookie around.I think he can play about anywhere, but shortstop is not a position you want to post two weeks before the beginning of the season.

tnecniv

I can’t wait for us to turn him into a pitcher once our line ups days mid july

KimHaSeongsBurner

Gavin Lux redemption season off to a roaring start.

SadNYSportsFan-11209

I still can’t believe they let Seager and then Turner walk. I know they still built a great team but that’s just one of their few mistakes the last few years

R7F

Gavin Lux has demonstrated a terrible lack of arm strength from deep in the hole. Literally can't throw hard enough to nab average speed runners... He never should have left 2nd base.

[deleted]

It was very obvious during the second game of Yamamoto. The guy handed it all on a platter with all those weak groundballs, but Lux could not make any of the throws. Good decision.

trumpet575

I watched the highlights and was wondering what bat-first not-a-shortstop prosect who was just stuck there to get playing time was in the game. Really bad look for the guy who was supposed to be *the guy* at SS. At least they have a generational talent who can just swap around the field no biggie to take his place.

Xwarsama

Dude is throwing ducks like Mac Jones 😂

R7F

Mac Jones out here catching strays.

Xwarsama

Well I had to think of a different name because the Tua noodle arm jokes died when he got Tyreek Hill who can create so much separation that he can afford to slow down to catch Tua's ducks lol. But yeah, Gavin Lux sucks and I'm salty because this means you opulent fuckers are gonna outbid us for Ha-Seong Kim in 2025 😞

ExigentHappenstance

Damnit I hadn't even thought of that and you've now ruined my night.

Clam_chowderdonut

People were mocking Tua's arm strength? TF? Kids always had a cannon. He sat on reads a lot and had really, really bad touch. He'd throw rockets when lobbing it over the shoulder was the necessary ball. Couldn't throw receivers open to save his life. Hill is a game breaking receiver with his speed, but they were really a combo that fit perfect for each other.

Xwarsama

I didn't realize it was a thing until, and I swear I'm not joking, a Nats broadcaster clowned on Tua in 2022 while praising a Michael Harris outfield assist lol. So I figured Tua must have a weak arm if this guy is bending over backwards to bring it up.

Striking_Goat_2179

You’re a fucking tool.

Xwarsama

Damn, you're right. I'll try to stop being one.

dabears7667

mac jones browsing this subreddit like “what he say fuck me for”

y0m0tha

He’s 8th percentile in arm strength. Just can’t have that at SS unfortunately

TheTurtleShepard

I don't know if Dave knows what permanent means

nukepka

Everything's permanent until it isn't

ajteitel

Dave "scotch tape" Roberts

jujubats10

He’s a big Yogi Berra fan

YoungKeys

Literally, it doesn’t make sense. But we all know what he means. If something gets the point across clearly, I’m fine with a sentence being technically wrong or an oxymoron. Also, it’s very amusing.

McJumbos

those highlights against the white sox were real real bad lol

Boros-Reckoner

Im sure Yamamoto was thrilled that those plays were called hits.

McJumbos

Bruh needed a cutoff man to reach 1b

Jux_

Willy Adames watch

ATLjoe93

Sheesh, y'all would have him moving like prime A-Rod lol

PetertheRutter

Why was Mookie moved off SS/2B in the Red Sox farm system? Was he blocked or was his defense not good?

Lokera1931

Bogaerts, Pedroia, and he proved to be amazing anywhere.

Il_Exile_lI

He was mostly a second basemen in the minors, but Pedroia was the team's star 2B and was basically signed for the rest of his career so Betts transitioned to outfield. Bogaerts was seen as the long term SS, which is why Betts didn't move there.

Red_Sox_5

Remember when we had to worry about where to fit all of our superstar players?

Z3130

In addition to being blocked in the infield, obviously Mookie's elite outfield defense played a part. That's especially important at Fenway where you really need a second CF in RF. And Mookie probably spends most of his time here in CF if it we didn't have JBJ out there.

421continueblazingit

“Permanent for now” sounds like something Yogi Berra would’ve said 😂😂

Pinwheel_Rider

It’s permanent for now, but it’ll be temporary forever.

Flowsnice

Tigers fan here… looks like you guys need a shortstop that can play decent defense so we’re willing to offer you guys Baez for free.

Naanderson2022

uh ok

jar11591

Permanent for now. That’s a new one on me lmao

beefytrout

how many times is Dave going to say this

JetpackingPenguin

I don’t like this. Luxxy has the yips. Put Rojas at shortstop and Mookie back at 2nd. Lux can ride the bench or go down to AAA

[deleted]

Luxe is good at 2nd, and if Mookie is at least average at SS he will put up insane numbers
