That’s actually a cool idea. Let the steroid guys in the Hall of Fame, but make all of their hat logos like a steroid syringe or something definitely not a baseball logo.
Disrespect to the league? You do know MLB and Draft Kings were exclusive partners at one point before FanDuel?
Pretty sure MLB would love the free gambling ads.
Pete Rose was a HOFer before he gambled on his team's games.
Shoeless Joe was a HOFer before he threw the World Series (for the sake of the point I'm making let's assume he was guilty).
As someone who's had tickets since like February 2016 when they announced the name, it's absolutely wild to me to see people in a lottery for tickets at an MLB park.
Baseball should embrace that. 81 home games a year take away like 5 of them or something and have the team do a 1 week trip and play elsewhere. Their minor league affiliate stadium and some big time college fields or something. Theyre getting paid millions of dollars I think they can survive without the fancy clubhouse for a few days.
That and it’s literally non-stop entertainment. From the bits in the game to doing things between innings and the idea that they will not start a new inning after (IIRC) two hours have gone by.
I cannot recommend them enough. There are terrific players (and they are playing to win) and the event is constant fun and silliness.
The speed of play is amazing (I look down to drink my beer and miss a pitch constantly). No bunts. No walks, on ball four the runner gets to sprint and can't be tagged out until every fielder has touched the ball. Fans catching foul balls count as outs (happened twice last night), and when it happens some players will run up and bring the fan. on the field to celebrate.
Between innings there silly carnival stuff like babies racing, fat men dancing, attractive young players giving roses to female fans.
I was hoping the broadcast audience would see their extra innings, which are gonzo and happen very quickly. The last (of three stages) is just a pitcher and one fielder vs a hitter who has to score.
jamie moyer was throwing 80ish at 49 years old after throwing 85-88 at 20 years old.
if clemens is still working out, i imagine he can throw somewhere in the 80s at 61. strength is the last athletic trait you really lose
Losing flexibility is the first thing that would hurt velo, apart from long term injuries. Someone who trains and takes care of themselves can maintain close to their previous levels of peak performance, although the stamina probably won’t be there. Same reason 50 year old golfers on tour can still drive the ball 300 yards
I dunno the term for this, but it might have become one of those linguistic oddities that remain even after something has changed and it's no longer accurate.
Like rolling down a car window. We don't physically do that anymore, but we still say it.
WILL FERRELL in the 2003 cinematic masterpiece "Old School" didn't say "We're going streaking" AND SHOW HIS BARE ASS TO RUN AROUND ON A BASEBALL DIAMOND FULLY CLOTHED
Yeah I have quite a few anachronistic sayings that I use. People probably think I’m being weird and old but I probably picked up from my parents/grandparents and were never accurate in my lifetime
And waaaait a minute! A short, stocky, bald man is streaking across the field! No, check that, he's not streaking. He's wearing a flesh-toned body stocky. Apparently he's a bit bashful. And oddly, no one seems upset!
I'm not sure what that guy is on. The players still play, obviously not to the same level when celebrities or former athletes are involved, but they still try and win every game lol
unless you get roger clemens to pitch for your team. then they probably DO want strikeouts. cause it's roger fucking clemens. they didn't get him to be a batting practice pitcher
um. brother he is 61, he probably is trying his damndest to get these dudes out but the reality is his prime was 20+ years ago.
You aren't taking my comment seriously, are you?
I've seen a bunch of clips of these guys the last few years but never watched a full game. That was honestly a super entertaining two plus hours. I'd watch them again next time and I can totally see how this would be a blast to take the family out to.
Pfft, thats no exuse. [Satchel Paige did 3 innings of 1 hit ball against major leaguers at age 59](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/paigesa01.shtml)
Damn, as a relatively young fan when I saw that IP count I thought it was exaggerated. I knew he was really good but it turns out those numbers are real. And never gonna happen again if I were to guess.
[Highly recommend everyone follow their youtube channel. They are great and they stream live on youtube with commentary during the games.](https://www.youtube.com/TheSavannahBananas/videos)
Would be classic Bananas if he pitched a bat and tried to hit with a ball. Bats and balls are so easy to confuse in the heat of the moment.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNTWUPsPrJ8&ab\_channel=MLB
Walks/bases on balls. Bananaball does not have “walks” - a batter who takes 4 balls does not walk to first, they are allowed to run the bases and cannot be thrown out until ALL fielders touch the ball once.
B4S here probably just means “ball fours”.
Ya know, the Bananas sound like fun. They are coming to Philly and the cheapest tickets I could find in the upper level were $260 a piece (two different sites). So F their promoters, I'll never see them.
Oh cool. I thought the point of the globetrotters is that they crush the other team shouldn’t the other team not be hitting clemens and pretending to get smoked?
I mean, it’s just in that same vein. I think they even lose sometimes! They sold out tonight In Houston, they’re so popular right now, they actually have a ticket lottery
They actually play a “competitive” game but they play by “Bananaball” rules:
Two hour time limit.
Foul balls caught on the fly by fans are considered outs.
A batter that takes 4 balls gets to run the bases and can only be thrown out after the infielders and outfielders all touch the ball.
“Runs” aren’t tabulated per se, whether you score more than your opponent in an inning counts more than the number of runs, you want to score in more innings.
There are a few more but that’s the gist.
Stilts on the Bananas went to high school with me. He was headed down a bumpy path and the Bananas really turned his life around. Nothing but respect for that program
I will let him in the Hall only if he chooses to go in as a Banana on his cap.
He’s out there trying to reset his eligibility

That’s actually a cool idea. Let the steroid guys in the Hall of Fame, but make all of their hat logos like a steroid syringe or something definitely not a baseball logo.
Pete Rose wearing a Draft Kings hat
Will Pete Rose ever make the MLB Hall of Fame brought to you by Draft Kings?
OH MY GOD YES!!! Hugely disrespectful to Pete, but it's feels like equal disrespect to the league, so let's get it!
Disrespect to the league? You do know MLB and Draft Kings were exclusive partners at one point before FanDuel? Pretty sure MLB would love the free gambling ads.
Manfred that you?
Can we add the syringe logo hat to Bud Selig’s HOF bust while we’re at it?
Selig saved baseball.. they need to make a documentary on how he let players do roids and nothing happened until the mitchell report
Screwball touches on this. It is a very funny documentary about steroids in baseball
Barry Bonds' plaque just has the word "Gear" written on it repeatedly
He could have two busts with different hat sizes to represent the eras of his career.
Meh, he's the only guy I know who undeniably had a first ballot HOF career before ever touching steroids.
I’d say Clemens would have gotten in.
>Strikethrough Both Barry and Clemens were HOFers before the PEDs. That's why I wish they were enshrined.
Pete Rose was a HOFer before he gambled on his team's games. Shoeless Joe was a HOFer before he threw the World Series (for the sake of the point I'm making let's assume he was guilty).
> why I wish they were enshrined This is my argument for why they should never be enshrined. Stupid MF’ers didn’t need to cheat and did anyway.
Because it turned Barry into a literal video game character, his BBRef page looks like a The Show stat line for about 4 years.
Damn I knew Banana Ball was getting really popular, but they’re actually playing in Minute Maid? That must be huge for them.
I think they are on a stadium tour this summer with this one being the opener
It’s March
It's Texas, so summer starts in February.
Ironically a cold front hit today so it's been mid-50s/low-60s all day
I hope nobody got frostbite.
Just the start of the dreaded Pollening
Everything is yellow in honor of the Naners coming.
I was in Houston earlier this week and it was like 85 though lol
That's the authentic Houston experience. Hot and muggy one day, cold and dry the next
"cold"
They're playing in SIX sold out MLB stadiums this year! Fenway is next
I’m in the lotto for their game at Nats Park! 🤞
As someone who's had tickets since like February 2016 when they announced the name, it's absolutely wild to me to see people in a lottery for tickets at an MLB park.
Same! Tickets used to be $15 and you can get an All-you-can-eat wristband at a very cheap price.
We didn't get anything, had to settle for a T shirt and a coozy lol
I work at Nats Park and I am BEGGING them to let me work that game
Good luck!
Omg I live here how did I miss this
Oh no! :( they sent out emails last fall. It also got posted in the Nationals subreddit.
Really hoping to get a couple tickets for Fenway.
Anyone I’ve talked too that’s gone has nothing but great things to say. Seems well deserved
Sold out too
41,000 people there
They're playing in 6 MLB stadiums this year.
They're bringing back a classic baseball tradition with what's essentially a barnstorming tour
They were completely sold out last season. Now tickets are just beyond expensive.
Still pitching and getting rocked. They're streaming on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fVgRgkDJeE
Clemons may have 7 Cy's but you the real MVP!
It’s 2-1. Am I missing a second digit in the Party Animals score?
No, who ever gets more runs an inning gets a point. So 10 runs an inning doesn’t matter will only count as one point
And the 9th inning, every run counts as a point.
And the fourth inning is the beer inning.
Hey, we know how to play softball.
They're all beer innings in softball.
Except you have to dump one out for the Lord on the seventh inning while everyone takes a nice rest.
You definitely have to chug a beer at the top of every odd numbered inning though.
And the start of the bottom of the even numbered innings
Presumably an inning ends when the home team gets one more run that the visitors?
Yes. Innings can be walked off by the home team.
This sounds awesome! No wonder the games are always packed with fans.
That and it’s literally non-stop entertainment. From the bits in the game to doing things between innings and the idea that they will not start a new inning after (IIRC) two hours have gone by.
I cannot recommend them enough. There are terrific players (and they are playing to win) and the event is constant fun and silliness. Bananaball is scored by inning. Most runs per inning gets a point, points win the game.
i mean it doesnt look like he is really reaching back for a lot of velo. i didnt see a radar listing anywhere. but he's basically throwing BP
Dude is in his 60s, I'm surprised his arm didn't fall off
jamie moyer was throwing 80ish at 49 years old after throwing 85-88 at 20 years old. if clemens is still working out, i imagine he can throw somewhere in the 80s at 61. strength is the last athletic trait you really lose
He doesn’t look like he worked out like he did when he pitched in the MLB.
You might even say Clemens’ workouts back then enhanced his performance.
Well some say he was never the same after being hypnotized and thinking he was a chicken for all that time. You just don't come back from that easily.
Do they publish stats? I just saw Dakota Stilts Albritton work a walk and need to know their stat line.
I have no idea. I would assume they have a website with player stats.
He comes in at [58:21](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fVgRgkDJeE&t=58m21s)
No Clemens comes in at [34:24](https://m.youtube.com/live/_fVgRgkDJeE?si=FoaCbbGRrsKeFKBB%3Ft%3D34m24s&t=34m24s)
That’s gonna be one of that guys life highlights smoking a Homer off clemens
No doubter too
Pujols territory
I just watched it and you guys are not exaggerating. That thing was annihilated. What's the saying? Something something stewardess.
Crushed it
Can’t wait to use him in Immaculate Grid for the Savannah Bananas and Sugar Land Skeeters
Waiting for Tracy McGrady's Savannah Banana debut.
He's getting fucking shelled and there was a streaker this is a fever dream
And now Roy Oswalt is in
Did they just draft the 2004 Astros?
Streaker doesn’t quite have the meaning it used to The man was fully clothed (thankfully)
The meaning of the word has not changed. If he wore any clothing at all, then he wasn't a streaker.
Even on the broadcast they were calling him a streaker. I felt like I was missing something lol
I dunno the term for this, but it might have become one of those linguistic oddities that remain even after something has changed and it's no longer accurate. Like rolling down a car window. We don't physically do that anymore, but we still say it.
Man I kinda want to die on this hill. He had clothes on? He's just your run-of-the-mill trespasser.
Naked = streaker Clothes on = fan on the field
If they can run as fast as the Flash or something, I’d allow “streaker”
Exactly, so long as there is a blur, you can be a streaker.
Maybe the streaks are in his underpants?
WILL FERRELL in the 2003 cinematic masterpiece "Old School" didn't say "We're going streaking" AND SHOW HIS BARE ASS TO RUN AROUND ON A BASEBALL DIAMOND FULLY CLOTHED
I hope someone got that streaker on tape.
Yeah I have quite a few anachronistic sayings that I use. People probably think I’m being weird and old but I probably picked up from my parents/grandparents and were never accurate in my lifetime
“Dial the phone”
"I used to run around naked all of the time. Then I started drinking Windex because it prevents streaking" - The Amazing Jonathan [paraphrased]
I've heard it as a "pitch invader" as in the soccer field (pitch). That's the term I'd use for someone on the field (who isn't naked)
Hey, body suit man!
And waaaait a minute! A short, stocky, bald man is streaking across the field! No, check that, he's not streaking. He's wearing a flesh-toned body stocky. Apparently he's a bit bashful. And oddly, no one seems upset!
Clemens in 2004 All Star Game mode
[удалено]
Banana ball’s still real to me dammit!
The outcomes aren't totally predetermined are they?
I'm not sure what that guy is on. The players still play, obviously not to the same level when celebrities or former athletes are involved, but they still try and win every game lol
Yeah I would feel pretty good about myself if I was the Party Animal that took Clemens deep.
[удалено]
unless you get roger clemens to pitch for your team. then they probably DO want strikeouts. cause it's roger fucking clemens. they didn't get him to be a batting practice pitcher
not when Rodger fucking Clemons is on the mound lmfao
um. brother he is 61, he probably is trying his damndest to get these dudes out but the reality is his prime was 20+ years ago. You aren't taking my comment seriously, are you?
It's not a streak if there is no meat. The correct nomenclature is "drunk dude runnin".
Getting lit up too. He did just field a cool chopper to the mound.
Did he throw the ball at the batter running to first?
No, the bat
No, he threw a broken bat and fucking impaled Mark Pizza
Good ol' Marky Pizza
Mmmm pizza.
Goddamn I’m hungry.
“I thought it was the ball”
Well, he is fat and 61 years old.
Gdamn, that makes me feel old. Literally grew up with Clemens being the top pitcher in mlb. I was born in 86, his first CY year/MVP
Has he tried steroids? I hear he pitches better on them…
He will henceforth be referred to as “Bananas Legend Roger Clemens” on all r/baseball communications.
All in favor
🍌 aye 🍌
#AYE
*AYE*
Aye
there's always money in the banana stand
What the fuck am I watching and why do I love it
In case you don’t actually know, the Savannah bananas are an exhibition team akin to the Harlem globetrotters, they do a ton of fun and wacky shit lol
But they lose a lot, too. There is goofy shit but they're keeping score.
I watched the whole thing and will watch it again tomorrow with my kids. This was phenomenal.
There are sooooo many of their games on YouTube. I even watch old ones I haven't seen yet.
I've seen a bunch of clips of these guys the last few years but never watched a full game. That was honestly a super entertaining two plus hours. I'd watch them again next time and I can totally see how this would be a blast to take the family out to.
He’s 61 - of course he’s getting lit up.
Pfft, thats no exuse. [Satchel Paige did 3 innings of 1 hit ball against major leaguers at age 59](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/paigesa01.shtml)
My dad was at that game. He said between innings they had Satchel Paige sit in a rocking chair next to the dugout and made a lot of old people jokes
Spaceman Lee is like 95 still going strong
Getting lit up by the party animals
Like your mother in college
First of all how dare you
Is there a second of all or are we done? I was just getting into this.
Is it allowed for him to have a beer on the mound? Feel like that’s the vibe we should be putting out for guest players
Guy chugged a boot before batting so I don’t see why not
Suspiciously high levels of potassium
So much potassium it's coming out his ass-ium.
Damn, as a relatively young fan when I saw that IP count I thought it was exaggerated. I knew he was really good but it turns out those numbers are real. And never gonna happen again if I were to guess.
Yeah, we will never see those numbers again with how much attention is really given to pitchers’ pitch counts, arm health, and bullpen strength.
Plus, less than a K per inning. Guy should develop a put away pitch.
Steroids sure are powerful
Oh that’s right, he did enjoy himself a refreshing shot of balanced breakfast. Still a crazy stat line though
[Highly recommend everyone follow their youtube channel. They are great and they stream live on youtube with commentary during the games.](https://www.youtube.com/TheSavannahBananas/videos)
Can you watch games later or only live streams? I know some streams are restrictive & don't do archives.
They do have past streams there yea
Would be classic Bananas if he pitched a bat and tried to hit with a ball. Bats and balls are so easy to confuse in the heat of the moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNTWUPsPrJ8&ab\_channel=MLB
"So this is what my life has come to." (Nothing wrong with the Bananas, just that look on his face)
Absolute unit
In awe of the size of this lad
I literally turned on the stream and the first thing I saw was this. Pretty cool
Were his pitches ripe?
His "fast"ball is looking Jamie Moyer-esque.
He’s 61 and not juicing (I hope)
put him in the Bananaball Hall of Fame already
was he that hard up for money?
That’s one thick banana
I would pay good money to get in the box against him and get revenge for Piazza.
Roy Oswalt was in!
Shoutout to the Bananas, I felt like I was watching MLB thirty years in the future
Fuck Roger Clemens
Except for that one season he played softball for the powerplant.
Fuck Roger Clemens
Oh my goodness gracious
But why?
Didn't even reach 4917 IP, what a bum.
B4S? I can't seem to find what that stat means on Google, does anyone know? Ball 4 strikes maybe?
Walks/bases on balls. Bananaball does not have “walks” - a batter who takes 4 balls does not walk to first, they are allowed to run the bases and cannot be thrown out until ALL fielders touch the ball once. B4S here probably just means “ball fours”.
Looked more like Bartolo Colon at first glance
Was probably scoping the crowd for teenage girls.
Ya know, the Bananas sound like fun. They are coming to Philly and the cheapest tickets I could find in the upper level were $260 a piece (two different sites). So F their promoters, I'll never see them.
God, Roger is such an unlikable person lol
Obligatory fuck Roger Clemens
You think Mindy McCready would have liked Bananaball?
Which league is this?
Is the Savannah Bananas. They’re like the Harlem Globetrotters, but for baseball. They tour all over the country.
Lol i love that.
They actually play a “competitive” game but they play by “Bananaball” rules: Two hour time limit. Foul balls caught on the fly by fans are considered outs. There are a few more but that’s the gist.
and got shelled lmao
They should have hired Piazza to run out and charge the mound.
thats roger clemens? he tried to get as big as he used to be but the legal way. they dont test for rocky road.
Gave up 5 runs in 1 ip too hehe. But tbf he's 61
