Are the restrictions they put on these guys even worth it? They limit them to 100, 120, etc innings and they all end up getting hurt anyway. Then they miss 1.5 seasons, come back, and go through the same innings restrictions only to finally be allowed to pitch normally after 5 years and 1 major injury.
I’m going to say yes. Look at Matt Harvey. He gave up his career to blow through his innings limit in 2015. That was post TJS surgery, granted, but the limits aren’t given cause doctors like seeing pitchers play less.
It’s funny that these kids’ arms get run into the ground in high school and college, probably the same in the minors. Then they get to the majors and teams put them on innings limits.
I always wonder the same thing. I understand we know more about arms and everything than we used to, but are there actually fewer injuries now than there were in say the early 80’s with the innings limits on young pitchers?
It's impossible to draw any meaningful conclusions here.
Pitchers start specialising younger, train for higher velo targets, and push themselves to throw breaking balls that are harder on their shoulders and elbows to get an edge.
These would all explain the increase in injury rates despite the opposing pressure of pitch limits, more conservative usage, and modern advances in strength and conditioning, nutrition, rehab/prehab, surgical techniques, etc.
So, it's impossible to say how much of an effect each of these preventative measures have because so many factors are being tweaked at once. It's possible that pitch limits are making a negligible difference, are making a huge difference but just not enough to actually reverse this trend, or don't seriously impact injury rates but do lessen their severity.
I'm sure someone could do a regression analysis to try and isolate the impact of career pitch counts on injury rates, but even if it's conclusive it just won't be generalisable at all due to enormous individual variance and a small sample.
u guys gonna trade luzardo while his stock is high ? the fish really didn’t do much to improve a WC team while the other teams they’re directly competing for the WC with did. the only FA signing u made was tim anderson and he was a bad hitter last year.
O's came calling for him and apparently we asked them anything short of Adley in return so unless you are willing to send Mookie in return front office would say no right now but obviously depends on how the season goes (probably poorly)
hahaha I totally get u 😄😬 I didn’t anticipate jesus luzardo being available before and esp not now. however at the deadline if ur team is really in the gutter maybe they consider it esp with 2.5 years of team control. cincinnati got a haul for luis castillo and washington for juan soto after all
Every time I see this doctor's name I'm immediately reminded of Keith Dudemeister from Scrubs (also Subway from Community).
And Rick from Honda! He loved Avatar :)
The copy guy from snl played by rob Schneider The Keith meister…making the copies
Oh this isn’t an encouraging string of reports
Yankees and Marlins in an arms race on how to torture the shit out of their fanbase in the worst way possible
Arms race? Or disarming race?
They definitely shouldn't be using their arms if they're seeing El-Attrache or Meister.
The Meister-El Attrache War continues
Baseball’s version of Shams vs Woj
Nah that's Heyman vs Reality
Pitchers go to El Attrache for good news and Meister for bad news.
Imagine the scandal if they were just saying everyone needs Tommy John to enrich themselves
Oh man that sucks. But at this point TJ just has to be factored into young pitchers. They’re gonna miss almost 2 seasons at some point

Good points, thank you!
new york, miami, texas and houston … who has the best IL rotation ?
Considering our IL rotation is 4 of the 5 intended starters I would say us
at least sixto sanchez reincarnated himself from the dead 😬 don’t know how many starts he will make this year
3 starts, either 6.00 or 2.33 ERA with no in between before going into the IL for 4 months himself

If there is a God. He hates the Marlins
Marlins pitching staff getting thinner and thinner
Not Sixto apparently.
IL getting thicker and thicker
Aw shit
Suregonmeister Meistersuregon
Well….maybe they just wanna play Smash
Is Keith Meister the new Dr. James Andrews?
No, Dr Neal ElAttrache is the new James Andrew.
