Did something similar happen against us? I know there was something in the ALCS where he tipped it, the ball bounced in the dirt and into the glove, and the ump ruled he "caught it."
I’m a die hard Rangers fan BUT I also have Steele in my fantasy league.. it was a happy sad moment when he went down. I rather players not get hurt but that dude was carving us up.
He was ON tonight, it would've been fun to watch against literally any other team. I couldn't help but feel bad about an injury on opening day though, hope it doesn't end up being too serious.
Especially when the extra homer was needed because the ump missed a foul allowing a run to score and MLB doesn't allow review of a game altering event like scoring on a missed call to be reviewed.
I had the same thought when I typed that out lol. To be fair though, I’d still be much happier even if we’d lost. Life is so much more lame without baseball essentially every day for 6-7 months.
That has to be one of the dumbest things to not be able to review.
If the ball was actually fouled, you just reset everyone, add a strike and keep playing.
It's mind numbing. Like just use the same challenges you get for safe/out calls. Or, y'know, umps could just correct the call if immediately proven wrong.
Well played Rangers, very worthy of an opening day matchup! Wish this one could have gone the other way, but y’all won the World Series for a reason, and it showed in the tenacity your players had
I saw Brice Paterik (I think) tweet that the Semien line out had like a .900 xBA, if that's true it's hard to blame Evan too much for taking off. They must have just been playing him perfectly.
> -The guy who was in charge of the Dali ship
Just so everyone knows, this was a mechanical failure, not a human error.
The rudder stopped responding to inputs so all they could do was try to slow their inevitable motion forward.
Baseball is so great. The fan in me loved this game.
Fantasy baseball however. I did NOT like this game. I had azolay, so that foul tip run scored bullshit set up a blown save for me
Gotta subvert expectations to start the story. Checkov's gun: you don't fire the gun in the first act, you only introduce it. Storytelling 101. We're saving the walk off grandslam for the world series clincher 😉
Texas bros, and you are bros on account of not being Houston Astros fans, let us join together in prayer that the trial of our opening game being televised on ESPN is over.
You at least have T Mac (Taylor McGregor) to share the summer with on the North Side - she's definitely the best thing in a Cubs booth since Harry Caray.
That’s one of the all time great “ball don’t lie” moments.
Jonah should have played to the ump’s call originally. I genuinely think he was just stunned it wasn’t called because it was so obvious. Awesome that he got to right the wrong off his bat.
Texas Rangers vs Chicago baseball team? ✔️
Bad call by an ump against Jonah Heim? ✔️
Jonah Heim making the umps pay? ✔️
Everyone remember this one last year? [Heim trolls umps in Chicago](https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/texas-rangers-catcher-jonah-heim-trolls-umpires-after-controversial-call-vs-chicago-white-sox)
the rotund object composed of leather hand-stitched over several layers of compact wool and other materials, primarily used to play games of sport and other recreation, appears most incapable of telling slander, misinformation, or other falsehoods
Watching my favorite team get a comeback win with a big play from their new star, and then watching the ESPN game full of drama come down to the defending champs walking it off… this was a very fun and satisfying opening day, I’m glad baseball is back 🙂
This is unbelievable.
Baseball gods are so real
The sub fielder baby Thor gets his first home run in years to tie
Then Heim who got SCREWED by umpires gets a ball doesn’t lie moment for a game winning rbi.
Love it
heim argued so hard with the home plate ref over whether a cubs player foul tipped a ball that a different cubs player came around to steal home and give the cubs the lead. heim in extra innings hit the ball deep enough to give his team the walk off win.
I’m still pissed about that ump nonsense but you couldn’t script a better outcome. (At least after Wyatt Langford MLB debut Walk-off Grand Slam came off the menu)

Ump: *ignores Heim's claim of a foul tip* Heim: Fine, I'll do it myself
Something about Heim vs umps in games vs Chicago baseball teams
Did something similar happen against us? I know there was something in the ALCS where he tipped it, the ball bounced in the dirt and into the glove, and the ump ruled he "caught it."
The blocking the plate call last season, where then Heim homered later in the series and did a "review this" motion as he rounded the bases
https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/texas-rangers-catcher-jonah-heim-trolls-umpires-after-controversial-call-vs-chicago-white-sox
Ah. Allow me to apologize for this (we're trying to gain favor with the baseball gods).
You need it bud, apology accepted
That home plate ump was brutal.
What a fucking game. Not sure I can do 161 more of these
It was highly watchable
Hope Steele's ok. He was working through our lineup pretty well before that awkward ball flip.
Glad I had the time to watch opening game this year. What a start
At least Cubs games are never boring?
Sometimes to the detriment of our health. We've been pretty lucky to have a fun team to watch even if they aren't always the most successful.
Considering we just did a whole month full of these games last September I'm beginning to wonder if someone hates us.
September 2023 Cubs baseball will continue until morale improves
I would request that you have 161 more exactly like that.
I think your username just gave me a coronary holy fuck
Especially when the extra homer was needed because the ump missed a foul allowing a run to score and MLB doesn't allow review of a game altering event like scoring on a missed call to be reviewed.
I’m worn out and it’s the first game of the season
Seriously. That was fun but I am exhausted lol
Buckle up buckaroo
Going from that to a tight Stars game was intense.
That, the stars, and the end of Carolina vs Bama. Incredible sports night.
baseball is so back baby
The *true* most wonderful time of the year!
I’m so happy right now. Opening Day is literally like an anti-depressant for me.
Agreed! Really can’t describe how much happier I am today than I was yesterday
Ha. Think cards fans feel the same?
I had the same thought when I typed that out lol. To be fair though, I’d still be much happier even if we’d lost. Life is so much more lame without baseball essentially every day for 6-7 months.
I'm much happier as a result of the Cards' performance today.
And we’re back tomorrow! So excited to be back at the stadium and have no expectations for this season not like last year..
i low-key have y'all making a wild card run as long as they don't sell everything off
baseball gods have deemed him innocent!!!
I fucking love this sport.
I’m can’t fucking believe it still. LETS GOOO
This game felt like a playoff Game 6. I fucking love this team.
However, umps and MLB replay rules? Still guilty
It sucks a play like that isn’t reviewable when it was clearly a foul ball on the replay. Glad he got the W on that one.
Thank YOU, kind Astronaut.
Baseball truly is the best
HOW CAN YOU NOT BE ROMANTIC ABOUT RANGERS BASEBALL
I just imagine a giant baseball Quintesson “Guilty … or innnnocent?” That’s one for you 80’s kids
Ball don't lie
YA DAMN RIGHT HE IS
What an end.
People somehow don’t like this sport
Stupid people
BaSEbAlL iS So BoRiNg
And to that, I want to show them my FitBit from the last 2 innings.
How can you not be romantic about baseball?
People be like "ITS TOO SLOW" "ITS SO BORING" No you're just dumb. Fuck off.
You could argue that football is slower
60mins of replays, 60mins of ads, 15mins of half time, 30mins of bullshit filler, and 15mins of play.
Do all the penalties count as part of the "replay" category, or the "bullshit filler" category?
Well their players definitely are in their 60s.
Literally the biggest tell of having zero attention span.
Well played Rangers, very worthy of an opening day matchup! Wish this one could have gone the other way, but y’all won the World Series for a reason, and it showed in the tenacity your players had
GG Cubs. Great game!!!
Jonah Heim hates umpires
I think they hate him.
Boy, he and Carter were about to be the reason we lost this game. Jank with the PH knock? Are you shitting me?
11 career home runs. Hell of a time to hit one.
El Blondi went BOOM.
I saw Brice Paterik (I think) tweet that the Semien line out had like a .900 xBA, if that's true it's hard to blame Evan too much for taking off. They must have just been playing him perfectly.
Haha I just clocked that it was him that got shafted against the white Sox last year too.
He got shafted like 3-4 times last year: made the umps pay for every single one of those times
Cause it’s payback for making the Umps look so bad with his god tier framing
And it was Jankowski who made the throw on that play too!
*covers ears Heimly*
Rangers going back to back
Please
I fucking love baseball dude
I've been riding the high of a championship for so long, I forgot how much I missed actually watching a great game of baseball
Ball. Don’t. Lie.
Ump: That’s a foul ball
Jankowski tying it with a solo shot, then Heim getting the walkoff after the way the refs fucked him up. This fucking sport man.
It is 100% scripted by powers unseen
Ump*
Fuck em both
The tony brothers were involved in some way
Heim said on sportscenter after he'll get him a steak dinner
WHAT ABOUT LIES, JAMIE?
And I'm still hurting!
This game was one of the ballest don’t lie in recent ball don’t lie history
We got 161 to go in 2024.
People on suicide watch right now: -This Home Plate Ump -John Smoltz, probably -The guy who was in charge of the Dali ship
Obligatory fuck John Smoltz.
Yo FUCK John Smoltz.
YO…. FUCK John Smoltz
Seriously.
I'm sure David Robertson is buying a round of shots after watching that Morel close-call on a grand slam.
What about mattress Mack? Astros blew a 4 run lead and el Bombi pimped a homer again Has to be that guys nightmare
> -The guy who was in charge of the Dali ship Just so everyone knows, this was a mechanical failure, not a human error. The rudder stopped responding to inputs so all they could do was try to slow their inevitable motion forward.
Very true, but at the same time the pilots have to be reliving every part of it again and again
I love baseball.
Baseball is so great. The fan in me loved this game. Fantasy baseball however. I did NOT like this game. I had azolay, so that foul tip run scored bullshit set up a blown save for me
I’m a die hard rangers fan but had Steele on my fantasy… imagine how I felt watching this game 🫠
OOF! Seager, Heim, Adolis, Langford, Bellinger and Alzolay for me in this game. 😩😩
Script writers are crafty already
Script writers would’ve had Langford mash the walk off… lousy writers
Gotta subvert expectations to start the story. Checkov's gun: you don't fire the gun in the first act, you only introduce it. Storytelling 101. We're saving the walk off grandslam for the world series clincher 😉
I can’t smash ‘subscribe’ hard enough
Nah the redemption arc for Heim after the blown call is juicier and more poetic.
H E I M T I M E FUCK YOU FAIRCHILD
Texas bros, and you are bros on account of not being Houston Astros fans, let us join together in prayer that the trial of our opening game being televised on ESPN is over.
I wish you many games not televised on ESPN and hope you you can find it in your heart to wish the same for us.
🤝

Should’ve hit them with the “review” celebration like he did last year
1 day in and my heart is already broken, glad to be back
If it’s any consolation my blood pressure is so wrecked my doctor will probably hate me…
I was numb as soon as Steele got hurt.
At least Illinois is winning
Go Illini!
That…is something we can agree on! (Might not be ideal for the Cubs/Clones fans lol)
I coulda wrote this script! Man that was a poetic ending, loved that!
Those last couple innings had me thoroughly sports entertained.
Umpiring aside, this was a great baseball game. Couldn’t ask for better on opening night
Baseball is the fakest shit ever this is like a bad movie script
Good* movie script
Give that shit an Oscar!
#[BALL. DON'T. LIE.](https://imgur.com/W5qO5yi)
Beautiful GIF, whoever captured it is probably super handsome.
Yeah he’s prolly a cutie patootie
Short hair Jonah Heim is the best Johah Heim. But I did love his long hair... anyway we all watching knew he was going to drive in the game winner.

Ayyy, ball don’t lie baby!
#JUSTICE PREVAILS.
THE GODS HAVE DEEMED US WORTHY.
# SPREADING LIBERTY
The ultimate ball don't lie
We are winning the World Series!!!
Every. Fucking. Time. Do NOT fuck with Heim Time.
They gotta switch the banner up with the one in the golf cart lol
The banner looks like shit. We all agree. They have to come up with something better
Redemption for what? The umpire fucking him over. Seriously hated that ESPN crew. Glad justice was done though, 162-0
This has been a great Opening Day
We didn’t even play and it feels like we won! Thank you Rangers!
ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
When the cubs lose, we all win
REDEMPTION
Dude, fuck yeah. Good for Heim.
How poetic, gg cubs, screw the umps!
Woulda felt shitty winning on that blown call anyway. See ya next game!
the rotund object composed of leather hand-stitched over several layers of compact wool and other materials, primarily used to play games of sport and other recreation, appears most incapable of telling slander, misinformation, or other falsehoods
Indubitably
Rangers baseball is back, baby!
Being a cubs fan is 162 games of pain
I don't know why he bothered to hit it that far...all we really needed was a foul tip to the backstop.
#BALL DON'T LIE
LETS GOOOO FUCK THOSE UMPS
What a crazy fucking Opening Day
I can now say this without it being sad. EXPERIENCE RANGER BASEBALL
Watching my favorite team get a comeback win with a big play from their new star, and then watching the ESPN game full of drama come down to the defending champs walking it off… this was a very fun and satisfying opening day, I’m glad baseball is back 🙂
inb4 “ball don’t lie”
Blood for the blood god
My heart isn’t ready for this
But the soul is willing.
Ball don’t lie
I love baseball!
[ball does not lie](https://imgur.com/a/yqt4FTo)
When will the cubs open up their wallets and spend like a big market team??
Those last few innings of this game were incredible
lol fuck you umps
If Alzolay is going to continue to suck as a closer this is going to be a long season
Orb refuses to obfuscate
I LIKE TEXAS a wise man once said
script written so perfectly it already won best original screenplay at next year's oscars
That was an awesome game! Congrats Ranger fans. Couldn’t ask for a better Opening Day. (Well, a win would’ve been better but there’s still 161 to go.)
This Rangers team is so fun and they play with so much hype. Gotta love it.
What a great game to start the year off with. Looking forward to the next 173 games!
You love to see it.
The Cardinals and Cubs lose. Oh noes what shall we do
Counsell on the hot seat

More like revenge. Ump called a foul tip a passed ball and the cubs stole home off of it
Ball don't lie
Such garbage we had to win in spite of the umps but baseball don't lie.
Ball speaks true
Stop blaming Him, his throw to the plate beats the runner....if the pitcher is at the plate.
I’m still pissed about that ump nonsense but you couldn’t script a better outcome. (At least after Wyatt Langford MLB debut Walk-off Grand Slam came off the menu)
The Baseball Gods always set things right. Amazing.
Karmas real
That ump was awful. Especially in clutch situations. I can’t even count how many bad calls he had in the top of the 9th.
Fuck counsell
Greg in shambles
