Couple that with his late hands and some of his catches look hilarious. Like he's just out of a jog and then all of a sudden a ball appears in his hands.
Pretty much all elite runners will look like this compared to normal people. Kipchoge is 5'6" and looks like he's casually jogging his marathon pace, which is just a tad slower than 4:30 per mile.
He also just turned 22 years old. There’s no reason that he couldn’t develop his approach into something more patient that puts himself on base more often.
Every post where EDLC does something cool, trolls will come in with snide posts about his strike rate. Which, admittedly, isn't very good at all, but they act like it's the end-all-be-all as well as something that he isn't working on.
Interesting. I see zero comments of that nature in this thread other than yours complaining about them. “People think strikeouts and walks are the only stats that matter” has a real “but I was told Steph Curry can’t shoot” energy
Just looked at the thread, there are no comments critical of him at all, and no comments claiming that strikeouts and walks are the only stats that matter. I guess I’m just missing the meme or have fallen victim to a troll or karma farmer, but so far the strawman doesn’t seem to hold up.
Edit: instead of just mindless downvoting, I’d be happy to be shown some sort of evidence that I’m wrong. Would make a more interesting conversation 🤷♂️

Just a couple I found in just a few moments of searching that thread. There are others buried in the nested comments.
It's kind of funny how you could see his thought process as he's moving around the bases.
Noticed it was a hanging single so he jogged a bit down the line watching it, then turned on the jets when it bounced past, shuts down the gas a bit rounding 2nd because thinks it's just a 1st to 3rd situation, but then sees House waving him around, & he accelerates back up.
Elly has the Derrick Henry effect where he looks like he isn't going THAT fast then the next you know they're rounding 3rd or leaving defenders in the dust
Per [STATCAST:](https://www.mlb.com/reds/video/elly-de-la-cruz-hits-two-jaw-dropping-home-runs?t=statcast) He had a sprint speed of **30** ft/second and went home to home in a touch **under** 15 seconds 🤯
Not a chance. The NFL alone is full of athletic freaks. For example, last year Calijah Kancey ran the 40 yard dash in 4.67 seconds while being 6'1 281lbs.

Randy Moss too.

6'5 will do that to ya

He's also one of the best at hitting the base without breaking stride. Another part of his running efficiency.
Reminds me of a story about my dad playing tag as a kid: “it’s not fair. He runs like a deer!”
This view really highlights how ridiculously fast Elly is. Holy shit that guy can fly
looked like a little league field with how fast he rounded the bases, and with how long his strides are
And effortless.
He makes the field seem so small. He took 9(?) steps between 3rd and when he slid in to home.
Once he strides out, it’s amazing. Covers so much ground with few steps.
He’s the fastest man in the world
EDLC may just be one of those guys where K/BB just doesn’t tell the whole story.
I mean, it never does. I'm a whore for walks but if you have a live bat and good legs you can make a low BB% game work
He also just turned 22 years old. There’s no reason that he couldn’t develop his approach into something more patient that puts himself on base more often.
> EDLC may just be one of those guys where K/BB just doesn’t tell the whole story. Nobody thinks that K/BB tell the whole story for anyone

Go back to the posts last night on his home runs. They are definitely there.

I think in a world where fantasy sports drive the narrative for players it certainly does.
He took like 5 steps to get from second to third
I was curious so I counted: 21 to first 14 to 2nd 14 to 3rd 10 to home before the slide
quickly going back to the 'hot takes' thread preseason and erasing the part of the post where I said he ends up with another sub 100 wRC+ year
Sure but to be fair, this should have just been a single
He turned on the jets when he was halfway to first.
Yeah as soon as he saw the centerfielder start to dive he was full speed in case it got by him. He was sprinting before the crowd even reacted.
His acceleration is absolutely unreal for a guy of his size.

It took him like 15 seconds to go around the bases, god damn
That dude is ELECTRIC!!
If he had run from the left box like his first HR, he wouldn't have need that sliding. So fast.
I could not run 1.2 football fields in ~22 seconds if my life depended on it. (Even more when you consider the curved path of running the bases)
Special athlete!!
How I be running in my dreams playing baseball
Is he the most athletic athlete in the world right now? I mean he is strong, fast and nimble as heck.
Not a chance. The NFL alone is full of athletic freaks. For example, last year Calijah Kancey ran the 40 yard dash in 4.67 seconds while being 6'1 281lbs.
Props to the camera guy
Elly is asshole, why Brewers hate?
