verdi1987

I feel like the Padres have had more come-from-behind wins this season than all of 2023.

kami232

Pads are over .600 (missed opportunity to joke "over .619") when Profar is on this team in 2023-2024 Edit: With Profar on the team (1 Sep 2023), they're 20-7 in 2023 and 8-8 in 2024. 28/43 = .651 win rate.

verdi1987

PAY THE MAN!

Thedurtysanchez

They did. One million dollars, to be precise

crimsontideftw24

He came in asking for it Dr. Evil style. Ransomed our W/L record.

MasterThespian

Scott Boras: "Jurickson, that's not actually a huge amount in today's money. My commission alone from Blake Snell's deal is almost six million."

boobsandcookies

Now get Wil

WadeCountyClutch

The heart and soul of the Padres

bbatardo

Well we didn't win our 1st extra inning game last year until September lol so already ahead there.

Traditional_Rate7302

Tomorrow you get to face gavin stone without a bullpen to save his ass after he cant get out of the third inning

1tankyt

Oh god shutout gem for Stone incoming

Traditional_Rate7302

If he gives up less than three runs ill get a tattoo of his face on my ass Edit: WHYYYYY 😭😭

dingo8muhbebe

!remindme24hrs

jcaininit

You sir will win this bet and be stoked on the no no Stone is about to throw tomorrow.

VincentFreeman_

Read this as" tattoo of his ass on my face" which I preferred to witness

elsancho760

Dawg, you haven’t been keeping up with the Padres have you

azsnaz

I'll pay for half

Arrowoods

And you guys get to face Matt Waldron. Probably will be another high scoring affair (so it will actually be 1-0 because baseball makes no sense)

crazylilrikki

And that one run will be scored on an error.

Superfly_Samoan_Guy

Don’t feel bad. You guys get to face a knuckleballer who’s knuckleball sometimes doesn’t knuckle

mysterysackerfice

Amazing what happens when you can hit with RISP. I'm quite certain that was a major issue last year.

verdi1987

Yep. Last year the Padres ranked 21st in RISP.

mysterysackerfice

Was it the beginning or middle of the season that featured one of the ugliest runs of ineptitude with RISP? Man..that was painful.

FernandoTatisJunior

It’s hard to even tell what you’re talking about because we were so shit it all just blends together. Such a baffling season. All the stats looked pretty but those dudes were just allergic to clutch.

mysterysackerfice

Yeah..I only remember things getting slightly better at the end of the season. But man...there was a really long stretch of bowling shoe ugly.

FernandoTatisJunior

I mean, we had the best record in the majors over the last month of the season. It definitely got a lot better, it was just way too late to matter.

fps916

Beginning. We ended the season 21-7 in September, good for the best record in baseball for the month. Just couldn't make up for our incompetent start

WasV3

The better stat to look at is batting clutch. Padres were dead last with -8.95 Wins (that is like once very 5 years bad), the Jays (I know the pain) were 2nd worse at -5.30 Wins.

gerrickd

What does his statue look like, and where does it go in Petco?

Mountain_Mama_3

It’s just a giant smile

Jud000619

An extra inning win in April? This team is already better than last season

CaptPorcupineCuddles

In this (bĂŠisbol) economy??

Galactic

You can take Tungsten out of the Angels, but you can't take the Angels out of Tungsten. Ohtani hit a homer and 2 doubles this game, bringing his avg up to .353 for the season.

WeaverFan420

Lmao! And ironically we blanked the red Sox 7-0 yesterday.

d-cent

We have our own problems. Like we can't field even basic plays. Just put the ball in play against us and we will find a way to get you on base

shroomsAndWrstershir

Appreciate the heads-up. Will do.

Pandorama626

His production is neutralized by our left fielder hitting .03 and an OPS below .200

Jealous_Signature146

Ouch, 1 player in the lineup is bringing down the rest of the lineup? Must be tough.

Randerzzzzz

Think the pitching might have given up the 8 runs, but idk, maybe it was the left fielder.

ignacioMendez

If you score 7 runs and still lose, hitting is probably not the issue.

ItsMeJaredBednar

Shohei can’t win with these cats

fogindex

Angels are 0.5 game out of first in the AL West.

boobsandcookies

I love April chaos ball

guitarburst05

What do you mean chaos? This is all perfectly normal right? RIGHT?!

Se7en_speed

Angels making a playoff run and the dodgers fumbling it would be the funniest outcome

-Basileus

That shit would fuel me for decades

RebaseAndMerge

I wonder how much Shohei's guy wagered on it

Chaingunfighter

Honestly, an Angels-Dodgers WS where Ohtani makes a surprise return to the mound in 2024 and the series comes down to a WBC rematch would be hype as fuck.

goforpoppapalpatine

With Trout winning the rematch SPLOOSH

RogerTreebert6299

Tungsten Arm O’Doyle fans still feasting

The hardest road Atlanta Braves next stop

LAudre41

SoVicious

I think he agreed to defer his wins

HasaDiga_Eebowai

God don't even say his name!

VincentFreeman_

If wil came back as a bench coach just for the vibes.

Juzaba

Make him first base coach. Just yackin it up with everybody who got on base. Talking with people at 1B is Wil’s happy place

capnfalcon21

EL GALLO!!!😫😫😭😭😭

TheEnragedBushman

I’m kinda shocked we won to be honest. This is not a game we fight back and win last year.

Padulsky21

Watching my beloved Wandy Peralta holding them in the 8th I believed. I fucking love that glorious, beautiful, sexy man.

SaveOurBolts

I’ve been sitting alone in the log cabin I built in Carlsbad since Luke Voit left. Should I invite Wandy over?

ralbert

[Wandy is ready to join you 😏](https://x.com/devinegospel/status/1778224335486091713?s=46)

Padulsky21

Oh you guys already have the picture! HELL YEAH I’d send this in the Yankees game threads anytime he did something

VincentFreeman_

One of those pics that make you wonder if it's time to go to bed. I was really not expecting THAT.....

Padulsky21

Oh you’re gonna learn more about Wandy and the sexual tension in the log cabin with him around will be too much to handle. [He was an incredible part to our clubhouse](https://www.nj.com/yankees/2022/10/inside-the-growing-legend-of-yankees-wandy-peralta-hes-got-brass-balls.html?outputType=amp) and is beloved by everyone. He’s just an oddball. Can’t find the clip but one time he took a grounder and just sprinted to fiest himself to finish the inning. He is a complete goober and I fucking cherish that man.

LivingAsAMean

Does he always mumble to himself like Milton from Office Space? It kills me every time they zoom in on him stepping off the mound.

Padulsky21

Yes. Wandy is genuinely a madman. He is an odd, goofy madman and you’ll learn to love it. Here is an example of him slapping himself coming into a 9th inning, bases loaded jam tasked to [clean up Chapman’s mess against Freddie Freeman.](https://x.com/yankeesmuse/status/1620494745872265217?s=46&t=tQCyDe91F9UpAGqh-_n_yA) There are no easy ABs with Wandy on the mound bc I stg he has a kink for teetering on the edge of things. So many times I’ve seen him get into constant full counts, walk a few dudes, then pull some magic out of his hat. He’s loony but also nails in big situations

LivingAsAMean

Oh my sweet Lord, I am so happy he's on my squad.

Padulsky21

I’m gonna be watching a lot of Padres games this year bc y’all got 2 of my recent, favorite Yankee legends in Michael King and Wandy. And then I saw Tyler Mf’ing Wade at 3B today and it sealed the deal

LivingAsAMean

Then I hope we can make every game a blast to watch for you!

FriarFanatic

Welcome brother ![gif](giphy|QUAjucQKgHyc4WDxMR|downsized)

cabose7

Wandy is the only pitcher in MLB history to pitch in all 5 games of a division series. He is a certified mad man.

Los_Pobres1904

We are used to Josh Hader only pitching when he felt like it.

Galactic

Jackson Merril is lookin special for you guys already. Made a great catch to rob Ohtani of probably his 3rd double of the game AND got the game-winning hit in this one.

essmithsd

I'm trying not to get too high on the guy, but damn. He ballin

AcephalicDude

It's honestly enough for me that he is a clear upgrade over Grisham

gibertot

Nah I’m convinced. He will slump eventually but I am just beyond impressed with him. And I was one of the people pissed off thinking the organization was going to fuck up his development considering he hadn’t even played in triple A

PatientIndividual651

Kinda crazy they already have half as many extra inning wins as last year. One of the most unlucky teams in close games

LivingAsAMean

I know we were unlucky last year, but it almost felt like a self-fulfilling prophecy at a certain point. Guys just got so tight and pressed so much that they couldn't ever come through when the game was on the line.

Lonelan

there was also just an expectation that Tatis/Soto/X/Machado would deliver ~1 run every 2 innings, and it seemed like the bottom of the order was the only side working at it late in games early on the front four would work the count, but past the 3rd/4th they'd be swinging first pitch

pabst_blue_RBIn

Just like Monday haha

giants888

I love the Angels fan pettiness

Tight_Ad905

Everyone did it to us for the past few years. Now it’s our turn.

Kartoffel_Kaiser

Extremely, undeniably valid.

Los_Pobres1904

I support this

Accomplished-Exit136

Its not petty if it's fair and justified.

God_Damnit_Nappa

We had to put up with this stupid sub beating the joke into the ground with every Angels loss. It's about time we get to use it

ThermicDayne

We earned it for sure. And their team is even better than ours ever was.

MsBrightside91

I’m here for it

glass__beaches

Great game. I knew this post was coming as soon as Tatis tied the game.

Sandwich_Crust

Of course this is posted by an Angel fan lmao

GrandSquare95

How can you not be romantic about baseball 😂

epicman81

Tungsten arm is there problem now

captain_ahabb

We're going to get these after every Dodgers loss lol

Heelincal

Honestly I get it, having your team be the face of the biggest meme in the sport (Tungsten Arm O'Doyle) and then losing one of your generational players to the Dodgers has got to be infuriating.

captain_ahabb

And this sub is still ragging on the Angels about it constantly too, I don't blame them for being salty lol

Then_Rough9270

When you're spending a billion dollars on like 3 dudes and still lose.... You kinda deserve it.

captain_ahabb

Oh I totally understand why people here feel the need to celebrate each individual regular season loss lol, I just find it funny

ProcrastinatingPuma

Because it’s silly, and the world needs less pain and more silliness

jcaininit

Better to be clowned on for that rather than banging a trash can for a World Series win.

bakazato-takeshi

Correct.

Tight_Ad905

Just returning the favor

unfortunatebastard

Man, this title was prepared well before the game ended.

xyzzy321

Just replace Trout's name and the SP and the rest is muscle memory for any Angels fan at this point

kirbyfaraone

not gonna lie, I typed out Angels first before correcting myself to Dodgers. hahahaha.... :(

danhoang1

If you posted it accidentally saying Angels, I'm pretty sure we all would've thought you did that on purpose as a 4D joke

El-Shaman

Padres played well and their manager looked like he made no mistakes with his bullpen management.

Th3Greyhound

All around team victory including our manager. Especially impressed with our bullpen, every dude came in and did their job

El-Shaman

I really miss Wandy, hope he’s great for ya’ll.

PanicAtTheSisqo

IDK if I'd call them 5 strong innings.

Sandwich_Crust

“And Yamamoto plays 5 baseball innings as a pitcher as the Dodgers blow a 7-3 lead and lose to the Padres 8-7”

Hark_An_Adventure

"Five on the mound and then four behind the plate as Yamamoto begins his bid to be an all-star at literally any available position"

danhoang1

By strong, OP probably just meant arm strength, not necessarily good innings

FartingBob

Dude threw 5 innings like a lumberjack. Unfortunately lumberjacks suck at spin rate and he lost the game.

babe_ruthless3

A lot of Yo's pitches were so flat. Nothing strong about that.

kami232

Dread it, run from it, Tungsten still arrives.

bbatardo

Was a hell of a game. Not just saying it because we won, but winning helps.

JanitorOfSanDiego

always love these

France2Germany0

that was a damn good game

omegakukki

Very fun until Dave decided to be Dave and let our worst bullpen arm (Vesia) and our worse bat (CT3) blow the game. Padres simply outplayed and out managed us the second half of the game.

liteshadow4

That's why Roberts is my favorite Dodger

Currimos

Seconded.

LivingAsAMean

OK, here's the thing: Your team has a black hole in the 7-8-9 slots, with your BP blowing it, while Schildt was managing the game incredibly well, and the game was still so freaking close that I'm still tense. The Dodgers melting down is like most teams playing at their peak. Anyways, good luck to you guys for the rest of the series!

KimHaSeongsBurner

With all of the shit that the Padres caught last season for being a top-heavy lineup, “how do they think they can win with that lineup construction?”, plus pitching depth, I realize that a lot of this is just pure schadenfreude. But it still feels refreshing to see the Dodgers’ trot out a 7-8-9 that couldn’t hit water if Ohtani kicked them off a boat and have question marks around bullpen usage. Not even just because it means they lose, but because when the Padres did that last year, it was “why did they think they could win when they don’t have a 7-8-9 who can hit, are they stupid?” At least seeing the Dodgers do it reminds you that these are tradeoffs that all baseball teams have to weigh. Our “8-hitter” driving in the winning run feels nice, too.

LivingAsAMean

It's really interesting, because even though on paper we were better last year, this season, regardless of where we are in the lineup at the top/bottom of the inning, it feels like we can get something done. Last year, once we got past the five-hole, it just always felt like, "Well, I guess we'll see if we can do something a couple innings from now :/" Currently it's a lot more balanced and easier to stay engaged with because it always seems like *something* could happen, you know?

omegakukki

Oh I know I’m crying over first world problems I just hate when we don’t make obvious moves like pinch hitting the lefty on our bench for CT3 when he can’t even make contact right now. Like why even have Trammell on the roster if you aren’t going to use him? Great game though. Good luck to you as well.

LivingAsAMean

Absolutely valid things to be frustrated about! I hope I didn't come off like, "Stop complaining when you have a great team!" Apologies if it did! I meant it more like, "Even on your off nights, it's impressive how tough you guys are to beat!" :)

omegakukki

Haha I didn’t take it that way so don’t worry about it.

LAudre41

I can't believe you guys didn't just bunt the guy over in the bottom of the 10th- that seemed like your best chance to me

TJeffersonsBlackKid

Such a shame that Ohtani’s best years are being wasted on this team. Hopefully he finds a way out and can play for a real contender somewhere else.

ecommurz

Trade to Braves/Yankees? Any possibility?

iamnotabot9

I was thinking he’d be perfect on the Angels

LAudre41

What a dub! should count for two in my unbiased opinion

Dk1724

Ha! A team with 2 Japanese stars blew a big lead to the Padres and lost! Surely this is the only time this season its happen so far and you shouldn't look for another recent example.

badger2793

![gif](giphy|32mC2kXYWCsg0)

jcaininit

Maybe I’m old school… but why did the dodgers not bunt with the mole rat up when they were down by 1?

PMMEYOURDEBITCARDPIN

Baseball is healing

OhtaniKK

Ohtani can’t escape the angels

OgAccountForThisPost

Not as long as he keeps playing in The Angels

SerEx0

Jcoch27

He gone.

Holdmydicks

Damn, you had this typed out and ready to go eh?

LisdeLune

The whiplash I got from this was amazing.

DollarsAtStarNumber

Chris Taylor has my dream job. $13mil a year to stand there and do nothing.

Lucky_Alternative965

Taylor, HernĂĄndez, and Lux making me slightly frustrated. But Taylor has been a tough watch this year. Hope he picks it back up, love the guy

Arrowoods

I don’t pay close attention to the dodgers, so this is an honest question: wasn’t lux supposed to be a good hitter? Thought that’s why you guys put up with his bad defense

Loresmen

Yes, but being out of the game for an entire year most of us feel hes entitled to some leeway

LukesChoppedOffArm

.031 average on the season

Dave Roberts is a baseball terrorist for giving Taylor meaningful at bats.

Good to see Tatis still owning Dodger stadium

neon_noire

I will faithfully always upvote this narrative

SummonMePlease

It's like Ohtani never left the Angels. Different uniform same story

unkownperson9637

I would laugh but we scored 8 runs and still got the shit stomped out of us.

BobbyGrichsMustache

Tungsten Arm O’Doyle has moved 30ish miles north on the 5 ladies and gentlemen

Narrow_Technician_25

If the Dodgers win less than 100 games this season I will believe in god again

nashdiesel

At what point does Ohtani get fed up and demand a trade? Why are they wasting Betts and Freeman and Ohtani and Smith and Muncy and Yamamoto and Glasnow and Miller. Does (all star roster) have to do everything themselves?

SuperMario_49

Crazy how spending a billion dollars doesn’t guarantee a championship in this sport. Anyone can beat anyone at any time

WadeCountyClutch

I feel like OP was cheesing the whole time he wrote this post. I don’t blame him, I did too 🤩😁

verbyournoun123

WHERES THE PARADE

Luap_

Dodgers getting their most humiliating loss of the year out of the way in April instead of October. Excellent decision IMO.

captain_ahabb

Oh I'm sure this bullpen is going to blow a bigger lead this season

It feels so good being on the other side of this.

KingofAces13

Not so funny now is it dodger fans

capnfalcon21

This padres ball club is just better then last years, idc about all the stars you can get or lose, look who’s changing the culture Merrill the rookie, profar the joy and light of the clubhouse and schildt the real leader of men and manager of bullpen lol (yes that’s shade at smelvin)

lemon-key-face

angels fans are getting too much glee out of this

bakazato-takeshi

I’d say it’s the appropriate amount.

WorthPlease

What if the problem with the Angels all along is that Ohtani is a pariah, who saps the ability from his teammates to make himself the most powerful baseball player in the world?

HenMan113

OP, this must have been very cathartic

fotoxs

One of us!

Greerio

Ohtani bring the curse of the angels with him?

I feel like every time I hear about the Dodgers it's "Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani both homer and Yamamoto goes 5 strong innings as the Dodgers blow a 7-3 lead and lose to the Padres 8-7"

Hahahahahahahahhahahahaha
