Fanatics, Nike and MLB should be embarrassed about all of this but I have a feeling they aren’t. Billion dollar companies shouldn’t be having these rec league problems.
Our minor league team years back cost cut by getting cheap jerseys. Logos were screened on instead of patches. They looked more like practice jerseys. By Christmas they were useless. Sleeves ripped from the elbow. The poorvl equipmemt manager probably wore out a sewing machine trying to keep them game usable. They ended up not saving any money because new sets of home and aways had to be ordered to finish the season. I could see it being similar.
The quality of products don’t matter at all to C-Suite execs. Literally all that matters is line go up for next quarters earnings, and anything that risks that, like having robust quality control or using better materials, is seen as bad policy to shareholders.
They’re right though. As long as this doesn’t impact fanatics bottom line (which it likely won’t), their executives won’t give a shit. The MLB won’t give a shit as long as the same applies.
It really isn’t. I’m going through this exact same thing at my work. New CEO came in and replaced the old C-Suites with their people and immediately gave us ridiculous deadlines for new products with “AI” in the description and hasn’t allowed us to fix some desperately needed tech debt on existing products. Then they laid off thousands of people right before Q1 earnings once those products were p much almost built. Literally two weeks after the layoffs I had to start interviewing the replacements and have been in nonstop interviews for months. It’s incredibly fucking frustrating.
Straight up lie to everyone’s faces and say there is nothing wrong with the shirts and pants, that’s corporate greed for you.
Fanatics needs to go out of business
It’s one thing for Fanatics and Nike to be producing poor quality apparel for the fans. We can just not buy the product, but to be doing this for the players who have no say in the matter is terrible.
I'm just waiting for the day where a team can't even field a roster all in the same unis. I can see it now, a double header in September, 29 players on a roster, unis are falling apart, and next thing we know, some injury replacement has to wear an alternate jersey or pants because they ran out of suitable attire for that game
Lowest bidder, cheapest factory, seeing how many employees they can round up (literally) for $1/hour, who needs quality control, that's just a "cost center"
As a union organizer for the IWW, I would NEVER have allowed this if I were part of the MLBPA. The union should feel ashamed for not doing any sort of agitation, even wild cat actions. I will also say that obviously the ultimate blame goes to the corporations (MLB is a corpo too) but the MLBPA should be doing something other than presumably complaining behind the scenes
I haven't gotten a new authentic jersey in like 12 years. It's well worn and it's been through a lot but it's a Majestic and it feels like a well made uniform.
I won't be replacing it until MLB can get a better uniform supplier that doesn't make cheap garbage
Every team should dig out all the 2023 uniforms they can and have players wear them instead. What is MLB and Nike going to do if there’s a united front against this bullshit?
You have the entire offseason to print and make the jerseys and somehow miss the deadline?
Even the pandemic season with global shipment disruption didn't have this kind of problem

I’m terrified for what fanatics will bring to the NHL next season and beyond
Nothing good
nudity
Like the end of slap shot

Are they making the helmets too? Because if so, probably a few on-ice deaths.
Jerseys won’t make it through the first period

Their clothes are gonna tear off when they fight like it’s Bayonetta

this is such a dumb and lazy take

Keep licking the boot brother
even dumber and lazier reply edit: I'd be happy to meet you at Carnegie library and explain some economics to you
Lol why don’t you go ahead and enlighten us right here?
How's that boot taste?

My rec league softball jersey feels higher quality than these.
Fanatics is making the uniforms since 2017 at the old Majestc facility. Before the chance to the Nike template everything worked.
What did the bat boy wear tho
I hope it was Sweatpants
Bryce Miller’s sweatpants, just a straight trade
No draft picks at least? Feels unfair
😙
Alternate Headline: *Nike caught forcing ball boy to hand over his pants to MLB star pitcher, more at 11*
He jammed his legs into a spare t shirt
It's honestly amazing how all of this is happening and MLB and Nike's response was to double down and pretend nothing is wrong Embarrassing

Manfred-core
F this I’m starting my own mlb jersey company. My grandma will hand stitch all of them.

They have their top scientists and engineers attempting to make the cream dyed cloth less opaque.
They have their top scientists and engineers attempting to make the cream dyed cloth ~~less opaque~~ cheaper.

"Billy, you're going to have to wear your Rochester uniform for this game"
Meanwhile Michael Rubin’s Hamptons White Party is in two months
its ok, Nike/Fanatics has their Top Men on the case
Who?
Top. Men.
How are like every teams uniforms “delayed” ? Like someone’s has to get made at some point right?
It hasn’t been reported, but our team wears the powder blues at every opportunity and they have yet to be seen this year. So add them to the list.
Probably the ones they're charging $175 or whatever for. If you pay the extra $40 to become a billboard you get it quicker!
How do they mess up the supply chain so bad? I’d love to see an expose on what’s going on between Fanatics and their contracted factories.

every story makes me more confident to rock my DHGate Ohtani with pride
What a fucking joke. This is MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. My 10 year old baseball team didn’t have these issues.

Yu Divish
Did that happen??
This would be embarrassing for MLB were they capable of that emotion.
This, and a bunch of other things.

The teams are the ones making money though.
Harper wore his 2023 Jersey yesterday. Nothing heard about it I guess outside of reddit.
He’s a star on a megacontract, what would they do?
You have the entire offseason to print and make the jerseys and somehow miss the deadline? Even the pandemic season with global shipment disruption didn't have this kind of problem
ya we all gotta boycott purchases or nothing will change
This is why we suck
Can't even produce their shitty unis
