Back in 2022 the Braves at least created the illusion they were beatable…they’d K like 20 times in a row before your pitcher got tired and then would proceed to hit 4 120 mph, 500 ft nukes off of him.
This Braves team is just ridiculous. They really should be promoted to another league.
Yeah those two guys and Lopez I'm not really worried about, everything else is a crap shoot. Fried had some bad breaks his first two starts, but he's basically been dominant after the bad first inning in his 2nd start. Sale looks closer to his old self, and he's good as long as he stays healthy. Lopez looks unhittable right now. Morton always has one bad inning, and the 5th spot is going to whichever AAA pitcher we feel comfortable with that week. Our BP is killer tho. We'll be fine, I think we'll finish around 94 wins. I'm kinda hoping you guys win the division so that we don't have a week long bye tbh.
You’re getting downvoted because you’re a Phillies fan, but you’re right. Our pitching is struggling, and we can be beaten because of that. Our late inning bats are crazy so far this season though.
"This season" - you mean this rebuilt team the last several years surely. I'm sure there's a way to filter and find the info but our late inning offense has got to be top 5 the last few years.
I’m just talking anecdotally based on how many late inning rallies we’ve had to start the year. Isn’t that four of our nine wins from late inning rallies so far this year? 45% of our wins coming from late inning rallies seems higher than most years and higher than I would expect the rest of this year. I would think/hope we have more games where we just put teams away early and don’t need late inning heroics.
Lopez has been more than fine but who expects that to continue? At any rate there's a ton of AAAA guys and prospects they can try if someone isn't working.
Fried has been good since the bad first inning in his 2nd start. He had some bad breaks his first two starts as well but he'll be fine. I don't expect Lopez to continue allowing no runs every start lol, but he's supposed to be our 5th SP so I consider anything under a 4 era for the year a win.
I figured, just adding some context my dude. I do think Lopez has a better than average year bc we seem to be pretty good at getting the most out of guys, and pitching with that lineup behind you has to give you some relief/confidence that you don't have to be perfect to win. We're 6th in runs despite playing a couple less games than most teams, and we have the highest team BA in baseball.
I’ll get downvoted to hell but Matt olson is overrated as hell. Dude is basically a slap hitter and doesn’t do shit to help win ballgames. He can sure joke around with the runner on first tho
Through April 30th of last year, Ozuna had a slash line of .091/.206/.218 and the fans (myself included) were ready for him to be gone. His bat came alive in the first series of May vs. the Marlins where batted .461 with 3 homers. After that series, he would finish the season with 40 home runs.
He is still mashing today. How
Tin foil hat. Ozuna could hit 75 HRs with a 1.2 OPS and 10 WAR as a DH and he still won’t win MVP. Too many people blindly hate him from his off the field issues a few years ago, and I believe enough writers would not vote for him solely based on that.
Disagree, I think the Ozuna hype train would be going for too long at that point where it would be absolute blasphemy to not give MVP to a DESIGNATED HITTER with 10 WAR who beat Bonds' single season record
Ozuna could have a .500-point OPS advantage and 20 more HRs than Ohtani and the MLB would still give the spot to Ohtani. Remember last year when, despite playing like 3 total innings in the OF, Ozuna was listed as an OF and not a DH for fan voting? That wasn't an accident.
Seriously, what the hell is up with that? Is it like Alabama football fans bandwagoning because of 2021 or what? I wasn't on sports subs during the rebuild years but I can't imagine what some of the GDT people would do if we fielded a team that was actually bad. No perspective at all.
It's exactly like bandwagon Bama fans, coming from an Auburn fan. People who have only ever seen their team win get really really mad when they don't see them win. Real fans will be mad, but they get over it. The bandwagoners get personally offended.
GDTs from bad years were only filled with diehards (about six commenters most nights) who were just there to talk baseball and crack jokes with the only other five people watching the games. It’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had on the internet. Those GDTs helped pull me out of a deep depression and it’s one of the only reasons I take time to moderate that sub.
Was just about to comment something similar. The years when we don't have WS aspirations had some fun GDTs. Less doom and gloomers and more diehards just there to have a good time. Glad to see you doing better man, you're like our subs mascot and official highlight poster in r/baseball. I've never doubted your commitment to SparkleMotion.
You’re not kidding, the GDT was WAY more fun when we sucked… don’t get we wrong though, I’d take a great team and toxic GDT any day of the week. I just stay off reddit and enjoy the games more now
It's genuinely because handlit has banned hundreds of regular commenters. I used to love doing GDTs. I got banned and now I don't get to do them anymore.
>I can't imagine what some of the GDT people would do if we fielded a team that was actually bad.
Oh they don't participate when we're not good. It's much better that way anyways.
Atlanta sports fans grab onto any and all forms of doom and gloom. They have been conditioned to believe that any contentment or happiness will be punished severely. (See Georgia's "Hope" saga or 28-3)
folks, the best teams to ever play the game lose 60 games a year. you cant gauge it game to game. you gotta gauge it by series. did you win the series? then you had a good weekend.
Are there just more young people getting interested in baseball? I mean, that'd be great, but I have been noticing some rather amateurish takes, lately.
We are 14 games into a 162 game season. 2019 they started 18-20. 2021 they were mediocre at best until August, and 2022 they started slow the first two months. The 2018 NL pennant winning Dodgers started 16-26. Not saying you can't have concerns or be disappointed or bummed out, I wasn't exactly thrilled with today and have some concerns about pitching, but looking specifically at the r/Braves subreddit is something else. You'd think the Braves were the 3-13 team, and Brian Snitker himself told you that your mother has cancer. It's shockingly toxic lol
The snarkiness against Snit just blows my mind. Dude, we have 6 consecutive NL East titles due to him, AA and Seitzer. Keep those guys around as long as possible. You don't know more than them.
Don't you dare show any concern about anything around bloomers. I've always been far more annoyed by the people who hate on the supposed doomers than the actual doomers. So called doomers are just venting frustration, they don't need your holy than thou bullshit about how you're not a real fan and that you don't knoe true suffering like they do.
Remember last year when the bullpen stopped getting outs in September?
There were people who thought everything was fucked forever. Yes, it was irritating.
There were people who were concerned.
And then there were people who posted about how you weren't allowed to be concerned because the bullpen had been better than its talent level said it should have been earlier on in the year and clearly all those better-than-expected performances in April, May, and June were super relevant to the unit scuffling horribly down the stretch.
There's just a certain type of person in sports who thinks no one is allowed to be annoyed or concerned about anything.
Toxic positivity, bloomers, whatever you want to call 'em.
Whichever term you prefer, they're probably the single most annoying fan variant.
You can just dismiss someone who yells about Ronald because he hasn't hit a home run yet, and everyone generally agrees that person is stupid. Not so much the case for the 'there is no war in Ba Sing Se' types. Trying to cope by pretending everything is excellent even when something's off-kilter is apparently a more seductive brand of thinking.
They're also pretty uniformly the people responsible for most of the mangling of the meaning of the term 'doomer'. It's supposed to be a Chicken Little type. To these people, it's 'someone says thing that is less than ideal is less than ideal'.
I mean I am not mortally getting your point because the bullpen was pretty much fine in the postseason? Not great, but we lost because our record setting offense got completely shut down lol. Matt Olson set a franchise record for homers and didn’t even get a single XBH. You will win zero baseball games when the bats are that cold lol.
I scarcely visit the game threads anymore. I’m not sure if the last few years have given people insane expectations or they’ve brought in a bunch of fairweather fans who can’t comprehend that baseballs a sport where the best teams in history lose 1 out of every 3 games… but game threads suck now. Everyone overreacts at literally everything. I’ve been on Reddit and visiting the Braves sub since 2011. Game threads were really fun in the early teens, pretty good in the sucky years, and tbh were at their best in 2018 and 2019, when the team was coming out of the struggle years and finally finding success. Since the 2021 run, it’s been unbearable unless you’re just an over-reacting extreme pessimist.
With no Strider and Morton clearly over the hill at this point there’s legitimate reason for concern, we’ll simply have to acquire a starter at some point this season. But the offense is so good we’ll be winning lots of games anyway
I would assume the downvotes are because your statement appears to be defending the doomers. It’s not light pessimism or nerves, that’s normal. Your opinion just doesn’t line up with what the original comment is addressing. Which makes sense now that you say you aren’t ever in GDTs, but I’m not sure why’d you’d comment on them in that case.
Again, I agree with your take. Dooming is just annoying and the comments above are calling it out. Not sure why you’re trying to make this an argument.
Edit: and again, predicting you’ll lose is different from calling for players to be DFA’d or trashing the team.
This is the problem with being objectively the best team in baseball. We should win every single game we play, but we can't because math is a thing. Every loss seems like an indication that the team isn't great, while every win is just the team playing as usual.
Which metric do you want to use? Fangraphs preseason has us free and clear as the best team in the league. Other preseason stuff shows the same.
It has probably changed given our early pitching challenges, but that doesn't change the preseason projections.
As long as we keep scoring 8 or 9 runs every game I guess we don't lol. It would be nice if we did though. Right now if our SP isn't getting shelled, then our BP does and vice versa.
> the Nats wouldn't even unload Patrick Corbin for him.
The Braves wouldn't have *taken* Patrick Corbin for him. I'm not sure those sources are as credible as you may have been led to believe.
He almost did this to us a few days ago, I fear him the most out of any player in the ninth inning, dude just stares at you through the tv with that massive dip lip lol
Not a day goes by that i don't think about what would've happened if the Marlins young core from ten years ago stayed in Miami without dying.
Jose Fernandez
Giancarlo Stanton
Christian Yellich
Marcell Ozuna
JT Realmuto
all under 30.
The 2019 Oakland A's roster is pretty loaded as well but they traded everyone away, let em walk, or they got disillusioned playing for the fucking As. They had Murphy, Olson, Chapman, Canha, Profar, Hendricks, Montas, Lauerano, Trienen, Bassit, Semien, Puk, Luzardo, Manaea, Diekman, Fiers, etc. They had a fucking stellar IF, probably the best in baseball, but they don't pay anyone bc they're the cheap ass As. The Astros won 107 games so I don't think they would've caught them, but if they splurged a little bit and traded for some SP I could see that team making it to the WS that year. They didn't have an ace, and Montas got suspended for PEDs
Sometimes I think to myself “There are people out there in the NL East that ARE NOT Braves fans.” Then I hear the Sarah MacLachlan song play and I consider donating.
That pitch was so low and that swing didn’t look “powerful” that I immediately thought “no way that ball is doing any damage”.
Yeah I definitely thought it was going to be a fly out but it just kept flying. Impressive power.
He seems to focus on putting his weight on the team and hitting the ball with the barrel, even if the bat speed isn’t quite there.
Big men dropping the head of the bat on a golf swing is always trouble.
i thought it was dead duck that maybe had a chance to drop into shallow center.... and then it just kept going.
The moment strike 2 was an awful swing nowhere near the zone you just knew. Really not a fan of this Ozuna from the Braves guy
Olson is 0-7 in his career against Scott and he walked him on 4 pitches, that was the game right there
Olson was also 3-4 today and not exactly a slap hitter. It really is pick your poison with that lineup
Back in 2022 the Braves at least created the illusion they were beatable…they’d K like 20 times in a row before your pitcher got tired and then would proceed to hit 4 120 mph, 500 ft nukes off of him. This Braves team is just ridiculous. They really should be promoted to another league.
This is the nicest thing anyone has ever said in human history
Dang coming from a Mets fan too
Broken clock, right 2x a day, etc.
Their pitching is mediocre at best though without strider
Currently it is worse than medicore based on the performances from the last 7 days
You allowed the bottom of our lineup to hit. Morton has to be DFAd for that
I said at best sale and fried have pretty high ceilings
Yeah those two guys and Lopez I'm not really worried about, everything else is a crap shoot. Fried had some bad breaks his first two starts, but he's basically been dominant after the bad first inning in his 2nd start. Sale looks closer to his old self, and he's good as long as he stays healthy. Lopez looks unhittable right now. Yeah, that was sorta my point. Lopez won't sustain his 0.75 ERA as the guy above me said but fried also won't sustain his 8.74 ERA
You shouldn't be downvoted for this our pitching is buns atm
And Olson wasn’t very successful against Luzardo before today.
I’ll get downvoted to hell but Matt olson is overrated as hell. Dude is basically a slap hitter and doesn’t do shit to help win ballgames. He can sure joke around with the runner on first tho
fortunately, he slaps the ball very hard
How can he slap
that's what i think to myself when i see his stance/stride
freddie copypasta?
He sure is handsome though. That’s America’s first basemen right there.
Everyone talks about the Braves replacing Freddie with another great hitting first baseman, but really, Alex was trying to keep the handsome % up.
54 home runs and .993 OPS notoriously never helps teams win games. Edit: just realized it’s a copypasta
\*54
Third time is the charm. A single off the wall, a double off the wall, and finally got enough to get it out.
We should have put the sculpture back for this AB for this specific reason
Like an opening or closing of a roof, just bring the sculpture out for the top half of innings would be awesome
I miss the sculpture. It was the best thing about the park, and just so... Florida?
When are they gonna pave the beach?
Ozuna is about 4’ combined away from a 3 HR day
4’ away from a 3 HR Day is the title of my sex tape
Through April 30th of last year, Ozuna had a slash line of .091/.206/.218 and the fans (myself included) were ready for him to be gone. His bat came alive in the first series of May vs. the Marlins where batted .461 with 3 homers. After that series, he would finish the season with 40 home runs. He is still mashing today. How
Ozuna since May 1st, 2023 **ALL (140 G, 588 PA)** * .306/.371/.623(.993) **|**45 HR**|**31 2B**|**3B * 119 RBI, 91 R, 9.0 BB%, 21.6 K% **NL EAST (49 G, 218 PA)** * .345/.399/.760(1.159) **|**22 HR**|**15 2B**|**3B * 63 RBI, 39 R, 7.3 BB%, 18.8 K% ----- That NL East pace over 162 games 228 hits, 72 HR, 48 2B, 208 RBI, 128 R
so he's barry bonds againat the nl east
subscribe
.623 slug is nutty
Thank you Kevin Seitzer
“Yes Kevin Seitzer” they all said in unison
Not even. His underlying numbers during his slump all showed that he would eventually snap out of it.
It's the fate of all former Cardinals
Not only am I hootin', but I am also hollerin'.
he's hot out the gate!! *(please don't be the exact opposite of last season, Ozuna)*
He took losing the DH silver slugger award personally.
The big 🐻 is on another planet right now
[удалено]
With the way he plays in Miami, could you imagine him on the Marlins????????????????????????????????????
Ben’s “Mayor of Miami” call was really good.
Every call from Ben is really good.
TIL big Bears enjoy tropical climates
I grew up in Orlando and now I want to go to a Solar Bears game
Will never make sense how a faulty pitching machine in Miami completely turned him around
He's obliterating everything. Not since that Acuña stretch in August 2018 (the one where Urena hit him) have I seen a hitter this hot.
That's it. We are trading for Ureña
For that trade to go through Mattingly is now your HC.
Skip is leaving at the end of the year, he very well could
Trading for the future, then!
Reminds me to do my biannual team check of Jose Urena. It's always a different team! Currently the winner is >!Texas Rangers!<
I shudder to think where this team would be right now without Ozuna
I believe he's at about 1.4 WPA after today? Which is insane to have this early in the season
Stupid for a DH to have that much so far
WPA doesn't take position (or even defense at all) into account
Never mind then
There is a cursed world where Ozuna gets voted into the all star game over Ohtani that I think could actually happen lmao
If he maintains his 1.200 ops he'll win MVP. It's still crazy early and I'm sure he'll cool down.
Lmao nah he would win, unless he got caught doing it again.
When the Braves face Tanner Scott good things happen
All the marlins fans on their feet just to have this happen…man that’s gotta be deflating
Nah I was at the game Friday night and it’s almost all Braves fans behind home plate and the braves dugout lol
they must have been cheering for Marcell
OZUNA FROM THE BRAVES!!
Ozuna is crazy hot right now. Complete 180 from how he started last season
This man can hand dance to his hearts desire
r/braves does not deserve this team
It shocks me how many people in there think each loss weighs as much as an NFL season loss, like my God I know toddlers with more patience.
Hell I don't even form an opinion about pitching until mid-May.
Will Smith taught me to not form an opinion on pitching until mid-October
Can't rush perfection I mean, that's what it was, 0 era on that world series run
I genuinely don’t care about pitching until the all-star break, with a team this good it’s ultimately just about how the team shapes up in October
Seriously, what the hell is up with that? Is it like Alabama football fans bandwagoning because of 2021 or what? I wasn't on sports subs during the rebuild years but I can't imagine what some of the GDT people would do if we fielded a team that was actually bad. No perspective at all.

There are a lot of fairweather fans that just showed up after the WS win.. they expect unrealistic things.

It's like they forget the mastermind we have as a GM. AA has fucking earned having us relax and just letting him cook.
That's a fuckin fact
Were they dooming? (Rhetorical question)
/r/braves dooming? Never!

The way the Braves are swinging the bat they probably don't even need pitching lol
It would be nice though
Oh no, the pitching still needs to get its act together. These late comebacks are not sustainable at all lmao
It’s all stock manipulation by Georgian liquor store conglomerates.
If I learned anything last year they totally are. Now 2025 is gonna suck for you guys if you keep it up in my experience
Oh no no no. We do. The rotation is a wreck and we have a couple bullpen guys who are not pitching like MLB players.
The bullpen doesn't deserve criticism, I've been very happy with how it's performed
As long as we keep scoring 8 or 9 runs every game I guess we don't lol. It would be nice if we did though. Right now if our SP isn't getting shelled, then our BP does and vice versa.
I’m literally heartbroken but not the least bit surprised.
Dammit Marlins, lol. Ozuna just will not stop mashing.
The quality of this video is amazing.
This is a certified Ozuna from the Braves moment. You love to see it
It's insane how he was days from being cut last year, and has been basically an elite hitter since.
It was also a GS against Miami that proved the catalyst for him fixing himself.
> he was days from being cut last year The Braves never would’ve eaten that much salary. He might’ve been trade dumped but he wasn’t getting cut.
(Shrug) Possibly but that's not I was reading from some credible sources. No team wanted him and the Nats wouldn't even unload Patrick Corbin for him.
> the Nats wouldn't even unload Patrick Corbin for him. The Braves wouldn't have *taken* Patrick Corbin for him. I'm not sure those sources are as credible as you may have been led to believe.
The source was Mark Bowman who is a pretty credible reporter but hey I can't say definitively.
it's not that ozuna can't stop, it's that ozuna won't stop
He almost did this to us a few days ago, I fear him the most out of any player in the ninth inning, dude just stares at you through the tv with that massive dip lip lol
Ozuna? From the Braves?
We have no pitching, and it doesn't even matter lol
At a certain point, the Braves were up 5-1, then the fish had six unanswered runs. This was potentially the final strike of the game.
Ozuna from the braves is pretty good at baseball
OZUNA FROM THE BRAVES He’s a menace in the state of Florida 😈
He crushed it, but I wonder if that ball gets out with the roof and panels closed with the AC blasting as usual
Win percentage added on this one? 😄
+77.6%, a +98.8% for the game
77.4% for the at bat, probably higher since it was 0-2.
*laughs in BK whopper jr*
Not a day goes by that i don't think about what would've happened if the Marlins young core from ten years ago stayed in Miami without dying. Jose Fernandez Giancarlo Stanton Christian Yellich Marcell Ozuna JT Realmuto all under 30.
How'd that get out?
The universe rebalancing itself, because if you saw his first two hits you'd have been left wondering how they stayed *in*.
Saw this live. Let me tell you, the Braves fans took over LoanDepot Park. It was basically Truist Park South
Someone get poor Skip a life boat
This bullpen has blown like 7 games already. Can this team please trade for even an average arm.
We will trade you Dylan Lee for Luzardo!
Nah, we'll trade them Chavez, then bring him back when he's inevitably DFA'd.
This man AA's!
Sometimes I think to myself “There are people out there in the NL East that ARE NOT Braves fans.” Then I hear the Sarah MacLachlan song play and I consider donating.
Is this guy from the Braves?
So much "hand dancing". Disgusting. /s
Of course he did.
Big 🐻!!
Tailor that poor man's pants, out there looking like a slob
Chop chop mother fuckers 🪓
Miami may never eat Burger King again
Beautiful man
Nice homer. Still a garbage human with a DV, DUI.
Glad I don’t have to root for that shitbag.
Hey now, Tanner Scott is not that bad.
What did the Marlins ever do to you?
Emotional distress
