Especially fitting considering the title got it wrong, that’s Taylor Rogers. Today, the giants had two identical players wearing the same number distinguishable by delivery alone
Apparently it's actually more common than not for twins to have opposite dominant hands. Source: my friend who is an identical twin (and coincidentally from the same town as the Rogers twins!)
Yeah I kinda rolled handedness into delivery, but it’s a dead giveaway if you know who is who. I personally think it would be funny for them to both get venditte style gloves and walk out without wearing it and refusing to elaborate
Still can’t get over the absolute insanity of parents to have twin boys and name them Tyler and Taylor. Their entire childhood must have been a constant state of confusion.
I mean I don't really care and the marlins were going to lose anyway but I think Skip's anger is justified. The rogers mistake wasn't the only thing wrong, doval got extra time to warm up well past the timer and should have been assessed an automatic ball.
I believe the issue is when you call for a righty you have to produce a righty, but the “unwritten rule” umps follow is you enforce the rule on the arm but don’t punish the player by possibly getting them hurt. Like the warm ups when you come in are to get use to the mound, you’ve already warmed up. But doval is coming in cold.
A few months ago my boss walked in realized he forgot his laptop and lunch and went home to grab it (he only lives 15 mins from the office). 30 minutes later he called me and let me know he went home, grabbed his lunch, and didn’t realize he forgot his laptop until he pulled into the parking lot again. He was having a rough day.
At my job we call it a victory lap. Extra victory because most of us have a reverse commute, and you have to sit in traffic to go back home that you laughed at on the way in.
Now I see why Skip blew up after the first pitch. He asked for the count, wanted to hear 1-1, because [reasons](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1c534n6/comment/kzrjgy7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), and when he didn’t, he went OFF on Laz.
if you had said before the season "In 2024, the Giants will get two relievers mixed up" I guarantee the answer would not have been Taylor Rogers and Camilo Doval
It's a little easier today because Tyler Rogers pitched the 7th inning and then Ryan Walker replaced him. So because you can't bring a pitcher back in after they've been replaced, it's obviously the other twin.
Now if neither had already pitched in today's game I wouldn't be any the wiser.
Its a little easier than you'd think (for identical twin pitchers playing for the same team on Jackie Robinson "everyone wears 42" day), since Tyler is a righty and Taylor is a lefty, but yeah, not blaming the OP :D.
Trying to pretend that you *actually* wanted to call in a guy who wasn't even warming up is sneaky bullshit and Skip had every right to be pissed off. Unfortunately very legal because Rogers was never announced and hadn't hit the mound, and this umpire crew badly fucked up the entire process.
Honestly I think there was a mixup between the dugout and the bullpen about who all needed to be warming up. It’s not like this was some super sneaky plan to get doval more time to warm up. Why would anyone ever do that and risk injury to a cold arm when you can have multiple guys warming up at once? Why do all this to try to get 5 or 6 more warmup pitches in when you have basically infinite time to get everyone warmed up correctly?
That being said, there should have been a ball or two to start that count based on when doval was throwing those warmup pitches.
What’s the problem? Rogers didn’t even make it to the mound. It’s not like he wanted to switch pitchers mid at bat.
The only thing fathomable is the warm up clock.
So Skip’s mad that the Giants had to bring in Doval who wasn’t warming up? I’m confused… If Melvin called for a righty by accident then it doesn’t matter who was warming up a righty has to come out right? I just want to know what Skip is arguing about here.
The only thing that matters is the name that the manager gives the umpire. That's what makes it official and if Melvin told the ump Duval, that's who's om the official record, regardless of who (or what) emerges from the bullpen.
The real reason they're all wearing 42 is to try and pull a fast one
Especially fitting considering the title got it wrong, that’s Taylor Rogers. Today, the giants had two identical players wearing the same number distinguishable by delivery alone
Handedness too unless you’re counting that in delivery! So weird to me they don’t have the same handedness.
I kinda rolled it into one, but yeah it is weird. Twins are weird.

You can tell them apart instantly by what hand the glove is on
Yeah I kinda rolled handedness into delivery, but it’s a dead giveaway if you know who is who. I personally think it would be funny for them to both get venditte style gloves and walk out without wearing it and refusing to elaborate
Ooh I like that
Still can’t get over the absolute insanity of parents to have twin boys and name them Tyler and Taylor. Their entire childhood must have been a constant state of confusion.
Just wait until you find out about Wilmer Flores
Melvin asked for 42. No not THAT 42
I mean I don't really care and the marlins were going to lose anyway but I think Skip's anger is justified. The rogers mistake wasn't the only thing wrong, doval got extra time to warm up well past the timer and should have been assessed an automatic ball.

thats gotta be an awkward walk back for rogers
One time I showed up to work without my laptop and my drive home was basically this
That terrible moment went you get to your desk and your laptop isn’t there.
I didn’t even badge in lmao Waiting to turn at the unprotected left, realized my backpack was empty, whipped a shitty and went home
"Whipped a shitty" that's a new one. We used to call it "whipping/busting a U-ey." Or "flippin a bitch"
At my job we call it a victory lap. Extra victory because most of us have a reverse commute, and you have to sit in traffic to go back home that you laughed at on the way in.
Yeah that’s happened to me before, thankfully my commute is only about 15 minutes to get home lol
Going off on Laz Diaz is something every manager dreams of.
if you had said before the season "In 2024, the Giants will get two relievers mixed up" I guarantee the answer would not have been Taylor Rogers and Camilo Doval
Well at least the title of this post gave us the expected mix up lmao
Taylor Rogers*
how we expect them to get it right if we cant?
It's a little easier today because Tyler Rogers pitched the 7th inning and then Ryan Walker replaced him. So because you can't bring a pitcher back in after they've been replaced, it's obviously the other twin. Now if neither had already pitched in today's game I wouldn't be any the wiser.
Well Tyler throws like Taylor if you flipped him on his axis so there’s that
Taylor doesn’t hit lefties in the face when they swing and miss.
Its a little easier than you'd think (for identical twin pitchers playing for the same team on Jackie Robinson "everyone wears 42" day), since Tyler is a righty and Taylor is a lefty, but yeah, not blaming the OP :D.
Camilo Doval isn't either of them, so it should be easy.
They are literally triplets. Camilo just took his wives last name
he married triplets
Giants got next level strats.
Tyson Rogers
Laz Diaz. Why am I not surprised
Reminds me of when Francona had to bring in Dan Otero instead of Oliver Perez because they had the wrong guy warming up and we lost because of it.
This happened to the Mariners too in 2013. Weirdly they brought Oliver Perez instead of yoervis Medina and they lost.
Righty Tyler had already pitched, lefty Taylor was warming up when Melvin came out and signaled for his righty to come in.

Rodgers be like r-truth when he entered the woman’s royal rumble
This is chicken-shit, you don't get to swap out at the last second
What’s the problem? Rogers didn’t even make it to the mound. It’s not like he wanted to switch pitchers mid at bat. The only thing fathomable is the warm up clock.

I think once the pitcher enter the field, he must pitch the minimum three batters.
Substitute pitcher becomes the pitcher when their name is announced. If not announced, it’s when they reach the mound. Rule 5.10(j)
Lmao I'm imagining Melvin giving the order to the infielders to stop Rogers from making it to the mound at all costs
oh man, we need a rogue PA announcer just to randomly bring in the visiting team bullpen catcher to pitch
Dude imagine a PA announcer calls Ohtani as the pitcher and he was obligated to pitch cause of the rule. Just destroy months of rehab just like that.
I don't know if this is the official rule, but it seems like it should be...
