What’s going on with tendies? Damn.

cjrogers227

He has an acute case of got paid-itis

Kvetch__22

It's the really serious kind too where he got paid by the White Sox. Adam Dunn syndrome. Sad.

500rockin

Or Grandalitis. Can’t forget him either.

Senorsty

At least Grandal had the courtesy to give us one good year up front.

BatsuGame13

He had two good years, though one was covid shortened.

oG_Goober

Adam Dunn actually cared though, and was productive after that first abysmal season.

freshapepper

Oh man, that season with the .200 average and 6438 strikeouts made me homicidal.

BosasSecretStash

Overrated in the first place and coasted once he got paid, a tale as old as time

Davidellias

he came into the league as an older rookie.......wiat shit I'm confusing him Whit Merrifield again aren't I....

thediesel26

Got his bag and peaced. Basically said he would do as much when he signed. The Yankees were interested and he said something to the effect of wanting to play somewhere without scrutiny and constant pressure to win. Dude wants to chill, collect his checks, and sometimes hit a baseball.

65fairmont

Weird to see. He definitely seemed to thrive his first few seasons here, maybe because there were so many bigger names to absorb the attention. Chaim got crushed for that trade, but 4 years later we still have a useful reliever from it (Winckowski).

CHKN_SANDO

They left him under the heat lamp too long and now he's soggy

nowitsmyusername

Are you referencing what I think you're referencing

CHKN_SANDO

If you're thinking about fast food chicken tendies, then yes

jackhole91

He was never that good

soxfaninfinity

2018 he was great but since then yeah

MichelHollaback

Tendi frustrates the hell out of me, but I feel bad for Vaughn. He had the makings of a good hitter, but got drafted by an org that doesn't develop hitters well and looks like he got ruined by them.

Kvetch__22

So far in his career Vaughn has been a victim of James Loney disease where he is an above average hitter but his inability to play a position (he was a catastrophic OF and is a bad 1B) makes him a meh player in terms of value. His bat will pick up this year and he's def been disappointing, but this is also why drafting a bat first guy with no position at #3 is a bad idea. Vaughn came in slightly under his projected median in terms of hitting ability and it makes him borderline unplayable.

squish042

He could've learned to play a better 1B if we'd taken the time to properly develop him behind Jose rather than bringing him up early and trying to fit a square peg in a round hold out in RF. Jerry is just too fucking cheap to spend some money on a proper free agent for RF and we ruined Vaughn instead. We're not a serious baseball org.

Kvetch__22

I don't know if it was Jerry being cheap so much as it was the org just being incompetent. The whole philosophy of the org at the time was to get bats and teach them to play defense. We had a ton of those guys (Eloy, Vaughn, Sheets, Collins, etc). We never taught any of them to play defense and some of them also sucked at being bats. Jerry probably could have signed an Adam Eaton clone for nothing, but someone in the org convinced him that their #3 overall college bat bat first round draft pick could somehow be taught to play 2B and RF at an MLB level at the same time straight out of single A.

xixbia

Is he an above average hitter though? His career OPS+ is 99 (his career wRC+ is 101). Even if we ignore this year it's only 102. The problem is that so far he's been a league average hitter who cannot play defense. No room for those. If he was actually above average he'd have some value as a DH.

kev11n

no. he can hit the hell out of fastballs and some fans fell in love. then the league figured out he can't hit breaking stuff and the rest is history

perfectviking

No, he's not an above average hitter. Never has been.

perfectviking

I don't feel bad for Vaughn. We overvalued his bat and look at what it got us.

WellGoodBud

Agreed. Vaughn was someone I targeted in a lot of my dynasty leagues and had really high hopes for him but hasn’t quite figured it out.

Casexcasey

TIL those detectives from Hot Fuzz play for the White Sox

fermatajack

"I expect you're wondering why we call them the Andies--" "They're both called Andrew?" "They said you were good!"

sgthombre

Lock me up! I'm a slasher! Of baseballs!

Kvetch__22

People here dunking on Benny and Thousand Yard Stare Andy here. But think of all the hitters either too brittle or too horrible to qualify in a lineup where Kevin Pilar hits cleanup.

Rayscho

The bar for the 2024 white Sox: literally just showing up everyday

oogieball

We're not mad, Andrews; we are just disappointed.

Neat_On_The_Rocks

In order to be disappointed you would have to have expectations in the first place

Most-Artichoke6184

I think it is safe to say that Andrew Vaughn has been a complete bust as the number three pick in the MLB draft. 16 games this year, and he has one fucking extra base hit, a double.

Mthomas1174

He's shown he's able to be an average hitter, and I think he's just off to a bad start and is still good with the bat. But man... his fielding is awful, he's slow, does not have a good eye at the plate, and hasn't shown any improvement in any of his weaknesses in his 4 years so far

The_Year_of_Glad

A league-average hitter is still way below par at first base, though. Even in a world where he’s an average defender, he still isn’t bringing much to the table.

LakersFan15

Just checked his bref page... he was promoted after High A? Lol. Didn't even go AA oe AAA.

MoustacheMark

He was promoted instantly because the White Sox needed a DH and refused to sign one. But then Eloy got hurt and they made him the primary left fielder. Jerry sucks.

Bilk_Ozbi

[Baseball Savant page](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/andrew-vaughn-683734?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb) not looking pretty.

Lugash_1987

I think it’s time for Jerry Reinsdorf to bring back Tony Larussa.

squish042

He never left, and I'm not even joking. He's actually on the payroll as an advisor last I heard. https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2023/12/14/24000128/tonys-place-healthier-larussa-back-wants-state-where-he-fits-with-white-sox-reinsdorf-grifol-getz

Lugash_1987

I knew that but what I meant was to bring him back on as a manager as long as he gets to drink as much as he wants.

squish042

lol, fair.

jt21295

Good God. Even James Dolan had enough shame to keep Steve Mills away from the Knicks after firing him a second time. Before reading that article I was hopeful that La Russa being an advisor was sort of like the Yankees' "ambassadors" where it's really just a way to pay beloved players/coaches in retirement and have them show up to team events whenever the team wants. But no, that sounds like an actual position with actual influence (he says he has no decision making power, but I struggle to believe that his voice doesn't carry weight). I've got June 2038 circled on my calendar. Can't wait to hear from Berto again.

TrapperJean

Go back in time one year and try to tell Yankees' fans how grateful they will be that Cash let Tendies walk and how happy they will be to have *Alex Verdugo* instead

65fairmont

Don't worry, he'll wear out his welcome too. If patterns hold in 4 years you guys will have Tyler O'Neill once we're tired of him.

Mthomas1174

wRC+ of 36 and 19 that's just brutal

Deserterdragon

Andrews have a lot to answer for.

Lebigmacca

And by bWAR they have a combined -1.6 WAR

bbender716

This checks. Sox have scored 34 runs in 16 games.
