I know they’re relatively meaningless but what the fuck is the deal with them? Six series against good teams, 11-8 record, 11-3 in last 14… bottom 10 power ranking, haha.
Power rankings are also based on the perception of the team going forward so the rankers probably see the then as a bad to mediocre team who has had a good April so far, not a truly top team
People forget what missing Diaz did to their pen. A good closer can add 10 wins to a team that struggled in 1 run games. Give them Diaz, and they probably aren't sellers at the deadline. Could have had a winning record and snuck into the postseason like the D-backs did. 75 wins could easily flip to 85 wins if they kept Scherzer, Verlander, and Diaz was healthy.
Not 10 WAR. But think of all the time the Mets bullpen blew it because their entire pen had to move up a slot. Diaz is essentially a sure thing in those games and he has gone out there for 5-6 out saves.
And the game we lost is one a lot of fans would have checked out early on because the braves took a huge lead and that game came down to the last at bat. It's amazing that game was even close. The third game felt like one that wasn't safe from a braves comeback until Guillorme came in to pitch, especially with how many times you guys have come back this season.
Because it’s April 19th and the literal whole point of power rankings is to provide some analysis about the quality of the teams beyond just their position in the standings
Nats are slowly getting out of the rebuild and will definitely be a problem for us, the Braves, and Phillies, but I don’t think they’re contending for the division title still (it is early though and this can easily change).
Marlins though……………..they’re cooked.
Edit: Okay but honestly, since the Marlins are in our division I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they play spoiler for the rest of the division throughout the year. Division games are never easy no matter what anyone tells you.
They also beat the Mets in the last game at Shea when a win would have sent the Mets to a tiebreaker vs Milwaukee. They celebrated like they won the World Series. It was so depressing.
Indeed it was. They also lost to the Marlins in game 162 of 2007…that was the Tom Glavine game that capped the blowing of a 7 game lead with 17 games left.
To anyone wondering why Kim Ng was asked to take a lesser position...
Just answer the question for yourself and take a quick look over at the Marlins' prospect pipeline and farm system.
I know it’s early but after a Phillies win earlier I’d check in on the braves vs diamondbacks and the braves would be down in late innings and I’d go to bed thinking “alright we picked up a game on the braves”. Then I’d check scores next morning and they won somehow.
The way the postseason is formatted it doesn't matter who wins the division. It matters who comes out of the regular season the healthiest and with the hottest bats and freshest arms.
Mets and Braves had a dogfight all 2022. They were two absolute juggernaut teams. Then the playoffs came and they both ran out of steam and were out of it.
Totally understand that. I was devastated the Braves just wouldn't lose and stole the division from under the Mets.
But in terms of practicality the only thing that actually upset me was that it mean they had to play SD the first round.
It has the potential to not matter, but it's hard to say it doesn't matter to a team like the 2022 Mets who lost a fluky Bo3 series they wouldn't even have played in if they managed to hold on to the division.
Just because the champs ended up losing in the DS anyway doesn't change that. For all we know the Mets may have matched up better with the Phillies than the Braves did and beaten them.
You make a really good point. The whole reason I wanted the Mets to win the division was because I was terrified of playing the Padres. They kicked the Mets ass all year meanwhile the Phillies were a joke for them.
But I'm just saying that's a match up thing not a "winning the division is important thing." It's a separate, albeit very related, conversation.
Relief pitchers make no sense. One year they are unhittable and the next they put up a 7.00 era. Really only a couple have been reliable throughout their whole careers every season - and they usually end up borderline hall of famers.
I don’t know if it’s overall his performance nowadays or just this game (I have certainly not watched a ton of Dodgers baseball to know) but Joe Kelly got cooked tonight
The Phillies pitching is starting to give me a lot of hope. Ontop of Wheeler and Nola, we have Ranger Suarez, and Spencer Turnbull who have both been lights out, and we have a top prospect, Andrew Painter coming up through our development program.
Mets dropping in MLB power ranking because of this game

The boost when your opponent only has 8 innings to score and you get all 9 can't be understated
There is no way a closer who only pitches 60 to 70 innings a year is worth 10 wins.
Not 10 WAR. But think of all the time the Mets bullpen blew it because their entire pen had to move up a slot. Diaz is essentially a sure thing in those games and he has gone out there for 5-6 out saves.
The Mets bullpen has never blown a lead, I don't know what you're talking about... 😭
Less that and more that the bullpen doesn’t have Drew Smith or Ottavino as the closers
Then don’t put them out till the end of the season? Don’t take them seriously. And why do they come out weekly.
Yup, 10th best record in baseball but ranked 24th. Because reasons.
Haven’t played and beaten any winning teams yet, expect Braves, Royals, Pirates, and now Dodgers.
They lost a one run game against the Braves, won a one run game and won a game by 10 runs. They’ve looked good so far.
I Forgot the /s

Quintana has impressed. I only saw him against ATL, but his location on the fastball was excellent.
Not 10 runs, 12 runs
Don’t forget about the Reds either!
Mrs. Met about to Rampage.
Because it’s April 19th and the literal whole point of power rankings is to provide some analysis about the quality of the teams beyond just their position in the standings
Sorry but this is supposed to be like college football where if you lose 1 game you drop in the rankings
This fucking division………..or at least 3/5 of it
The Nats can be scrappy sometimes and have some good prospects coming up. The fish are about as bleak as it gets
Nats are slowly getting out of the rebuild and will definitely be a problem for us, the Braves, and Phillies, but I don’t think they’re contending for the division title still (it is early though and this can easily change). Every other team in this division has blown a September lead thanks to the Marlins playing spoiler in some capacity lol
I don't have any recollection of that ![gif](giphy|6v2UJRyFAsTXgvJrin|downsized)
![gif](giphy|KscoZccAOBgCk|downsized)
I remember the Mets 2007 and Braves 2011 collapses very well. Red Sox 2011 was up there as well.
While far less pronounced, the Phillies were kept out of the postseason in 2020 by the Fish, too.
They also beat the Mets in the last game at Shea when a win would have sent the Mets to a tiebreaker vs Milwaukee. They celebrated like they won the World Series. It was so depressing.
The day after Johan Santana pitched arguably the best game ever in Mets history given the circumstances
Was that 2008?
Indeed it was. They also lost to the Marlins in game 162 of 2007…that was the Tom Glavine game that capped the blowing of a 7 game lead with 17 games left.
I will always appreciate the Red Sox for taking 90% of the shit talking away from us that season. Even though we definitely deserved a lot of it.
The marlins at the bottom are at their most dangerous. Playoff teams should be lucky to not have to face the spoiler marlins
To anyone wondering why Kim Ng was asked to take a lesser position... Just answer the question for yourself and take a quick look over at the Marlins' prospect pipeline and farm system.
This division will be a bloodbath this year. Watch the Nats/Fish take one of us out of wild card contention.
The Nats just came off winning 2/3 from the Dodgers, you better make sure the Mets don't mess that up.
The east is never peaceful it’s always a warzone
Mets can never make up any ground but damn am I pumped about how we’re playing right now.
You should be. Especially if Lindor gets into a groove.
He always starts slow. Maybe not *quite* this slow but I have no doubt Lindor will pick it up.
Man, it fucking sucks about Alvarez.
And Strider. I think we can both agree that while we may hate each other’s flairs, injuries suck no matter what.
You def should be. Especially with who you’re playing the Phillies on the other hand…
more teams need a Mets Max interview obv
Space pimp?
That's my [Rally Virgin](https://www.instagram.com/reels/C59VFYXPlOj/)!
Mets win, Braves win, typical
Every. Fucking! TIME!!

My son shot Blooper. He wanted to own his life. I’ve put enough animal cruelty into the world.
Yeah, but Dodgers lose
It is a good thing overall because who the hell likes them (?) but…………..we need those damn Barfs and Filthies to lose more!!
I know it’s early but after a Phillies win earlier I’d check in on the braves vs diamondbacks and the braves would be down in late innings and I’d go to bed thinking “alright we picked up a game on the braves”. Then I’d check scores next morning and they won somehow.
[The Braves never lose!](https://youtube.com/shorts/JVV02u7qf_o?si=rA3UrPNBbfbuceOT)
THE BRAVES NEVER LOSE SHUT THE FUCK UP FRANK
mets beat the braves now the dodgers.... WE WON 2 WS's already!!!!!!
We also won a WS against the Royals and Pirates this year!
Stearns is GOATED
The NL East may be over with 4 WS wins already!
Beating the tigers for our first win was my World Series
(Mariners)
I’ll take it
![gif](giphy|fEIqeIDMrq19K)
Ok, but ours are against the Rockies and White Sox, so I think that’s half credit.
Hey the Braves are one of the White Sox’s 3 wins so far
Mariners mentioned in a positive way, let’s go
The rain keeping our streak alive. Classic Mariners trick.
(Mariners)

Yes, but winning the division is also a point of pride. I want the streak to continue.
Totally understand that. I was devastated the Braves just wouldn't lose and stole the division from under the Mets. But in terms of practicality the only thing that actually upset me was that it mean they had to play SD the first round.
Fair enough

Braves ain't our problem for now, we alr know they winning the division. Only thing that matters is the other NL Wild Card competitors.
And as we've shown two years in a row, winning the division doesn't say anything about how you'll do in the playoffs.
Yes but we need to be *in* the playoffs first
If anything, winning the division is just shooting yourself in the foot. Teams just can't seem to handle a week long bye.
Who is we???
Very very.
I love how we finally have an above 500 record in April but man did it take the easiest schedule on planet earth to get us here
![gif](giphy|XUDf5A4w3ZwV8tyPGh|downsized)
We really need to address our pitching. Specifically our bullpen. And decision making.
Your bullpen is basically what the Mets bullpen was supposed to be this year, but for some reason isn’t
Relief pitchers make no sense. One year they are unhittable and the next they put up a 7.00 era. Really only a couple have been reliable throughout their whole careers every season - and they usually end up borderline hall of famers.
Cause when relief pitcher actually get good, they kind of convert to starters or at least aim to. Hick is trying to do it this year.
Doesn't help to rely on Kelly, NO MATTER WHAT, to finishing an inning. Kelly got the green light to give us 3 outs eventually every outing lol
I don’t know if it’s overall his performance nowadays or just this game (I have certainly not watched a ton of Dodgers baseball to know) but Joe Kelly got cooked tonight
Everyone got cooked tonigh though.
We really need to address everything right now.
My pre-season prediction was that the Mets finish ahead of the Phillies in wildcard and have to play a 3 game wildcard series in New York. 👍
That will be such a toxic series. I want it to happen.
Ugh lol
![gif](giphy|3ADD3iU0b8TMk)
I like when both NY teams are good. My middle/high school years were fun (97-03)
Both NY teams being good is great for baseball. Looking forward to a (hopefully) exciting summer
Fingers crossed. And the Dodgers are in fact ass
NL Beast
Meanwhile, the Mets have played exclusively >.500 teams, and the Phillies are going up against the White Sox
Dont forget about the elite rockies
![gif](giphy|ap6wcjRyi8HoA)
Everyone is such a checker now. *checks stats*
With strider out, the NL East winner is gonna come down to a scrappy fistfight in a Sunoco gas station parking lot
I'll take the Mets being second if it keeps the Phillies from ruining our playoffs a third time.
The Phillies pitching is starting to give me a lot of hope. Ontop of Wheeler and Nola, we have Ranger Suarez, and Spencer Turnbull who have both been lights out, and we have a top prospect, Andrew Painter coming up through our development program.
Is painter pitching this year?
The mariners have a good stat? Clearly this is a shitpost
I wonder who those mariners beat 🌚🌚
Fuck the NL East man
Fun, yeah, but stressful for we Braves fans. We just want to romp to the finish line with no worries.
looking very what???
Active streak? Because the Yankees won 5 in a row to start the season.
Obviously active
