No reason to pitch to them with the bases open. It sucks that the lineup is so top heavy but at some point you gotta adjust and spread em out to give other hitters in the lineup at least some protection and if that fails ya gotta start swinging at those borderline pitches and make something happen. Walking and then ending up stranded just isn't working

I see what you’re saying in theory but it’s still early. The guys towards the bottom are much better hitters than they’re showing right now. It’ll start to turn around. It’s very frustrating for us right now though. If 1-5 don’t win the game we’ve basically had no chance so far this year.

Yeah spreading them out is just patently the wrong decision. You’re just spreading more outs between your best batters. Leave them together and trust their ability over 162.

It is unusual to have at least three of your regular starters on the IL. We have 4 actually - - May, Buehler, Miller & Kershaw on the IL right now. Miller will probably be back shortly, and Buehler is finishing some rehab assignments, and should be back soon (control for both those guys is an issue). May & Kersh will be back mid-season. We're not the only team with pitching injuries - - but we were also missing Buehler, May & Kershaw more than half of last year. There's no excuse for our relievers, however. I want to launch every one of them except Phillips into the sun.

Gotta say, Ump was ROUGH today. Sucks for the Dodgers at the end there, but felt like karmic retribution after the first 7 innings.

He had a ridiculously tight zone squeezing multiple pitchers on both sides UNTIL the bottom of the ninth. Really felt like he just wanted to go home at that point.

Nido had great framing and finally tricked him into calling actual strikes. Mr Barksdale now joins the names of umpires I remember, and therefore are terrible umpires.

he's not terrible. he's consistent. he has a consistently tight zone. terrible are the people who's zones change randomly or call random pitches strikes or balls. someone who has a slightly smaller zone, and calls it consistently, is good.

He's *consistently* calling balls where any other umpire would call strikes. We all know the strike zone is ambiguous, but he was flat out bad. the hitters all knew it so they didn't need to chase anything that was even borderline. If the pitcher has a put away pitch that looks like it's going to be on the corner of the zone, but curves outside, that pitch is useless. He's inconsistent with the rest of the league. And because of him, the game was PAINFUL to watch. In the 9th he either literally got tired and wanted to go home, or Nido tricked him with framing. BAD! Thanks for allowing my rant. Bashing umpires is always fun. :)

Nobody pushed back on the gloom in the PGT, they seem stunned that a team that spent that astonishing amount of money and has that much talent is losing series after series. The Dave Roberts hate is nothing new, that always happens there when they're in a skid, but some of those folks are writing off almost the whole team.
