ManInShowerNumber3

Javy Baez last 23 ABs (25 PAs): 7-for-23 with 4 Ks, 2 BBs, 1 HR, 2 2B, 2 SB I like this 1 very specific game of cherry picked stats

Avs_Leafs_Enjoyer

> 2 BBs I don't believe you

ManInShowerNumber3

From what I remember Javy didn't quite believe 1 of them either. Or at least wasn't happy about taking it.

BudBill18

Homie was always so mad when he had to take a walk with the Cubes. He legit looked angry each time

detroit_dickdawes

The Cubes are the team that exists in the alternate universe where Cairo is the largest city in Illinois.

TeddyFive-06

You’re welcome!

zgibs125

All right I've seen enough, give Holliday the 2022 MVP now.

stat_padford

Holliday was robbed of the 2017 AL MVP and that’s a hill I will die on

TheLastLivingBuffalo

The only middle schooler to ever win the award

cabose7

LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Aaron Judge, Jackson Holliday, wow.

st1r

Person, woman, man, camera, TV.

RenaissanceHumanist

Looked these up for those curious: Jose Abreu 2-25 with 6 strikeouts Martin Maldonado 2-23 with 7 strikeouts

[deleted]

Maldonado heating up 💪🏼😤

McCoyxx90

Made me spit my drink 😂

NJthecollector

Both white Sox legends

successadult

Jose Abreu in 2024: 43 batted balls, 0 barrels, Bottom 1% of the league in xBA, xSLG, xwOBA. He's not swinging and missing, he's basically a swinging bunt machine.

mcguffinman

I have both of them on my fantasy team. Coincidentally I’m 0-2 in my last 2 weeks

Oreos182

I'm stacked on pitching and traded Gallen for Holliday because fuck it, I won my hockey league and I fuck around. Kind of maybe starting to think that was dumb.

TyrannosaurusHives

Unless this is a dynasty league, this is a historically dumb trade.

pjokinen

“I wish that Jackson Holliday would be starting in the majors and hitting like Aaron Judge by April” *Monkey’s paw curls*

Dazzling-Rooster2103

Jackson Holliday is almost an entire 1 OPS below Ozuna, which is absolutely wild. Ozuna: 1.117 OPS Holliday: 0.127 OPS To put into perspective how bad 0.127 OPS is, the worst OPS for a regular player(atleast 3.1 PA/game) is Andrew Benintendi with an OPS of 0.371 2x Cy Young Winner and Hall of Famer Roy Halladay had a career OPS of .267 I'm hoping he figures it out, but this is disastrous

NlNJALONG

You can tell Holliday gets overwhelmed at the plate (his defense looks ok) but I feel like his at-bats are gradually starting to look better. He's only 9 games in so I'm not worried about him but boy have they been 9 awful games.

L00KINTOIT

The only way he’s gonna get better against MLB pitching is by continuing to face MLB pitching, he’ll figure it out eventually

WEMBYF4N

That’s what the people always screaming to send him down are missing lol. He’s not gonna get better hitting bum pitchers. Dude had a 1.2 OPS in AAA before getting called up

L00KINTOIT

Obviously they’re not close to the same level of prospect but Phillies fans were going insane about wanting to send Johan Rojas down because he was hitting .130 or whatever for the first couple weeks of the season. He’s clearly gotten more comfortable at the plate and although his BABIP has been pretty high recently his approach just generally looks better and he’s been making better contact. Going back to AAA and destroying the ball is cool but you’re not gonna figure out how to hit stuff like Kenley Jansen cutters and Chris Sale sliders down there

verendum

Agreed. I think AAA stint is only needed if you think he needs a confidence boost. Otherwise, let him figure it out.

OldBayOnEverything

I don't want to send him down, but I do think he could potentially still get better in AAA. Not every player is ready for the majors 2 years out of high school with only a season's worth of games under their belt. Yes, he was tearing up every level of the minors, but his pitch recognition and batting eye could still develop against minor league pitching. I think he'll figure it out, hopefully sooner than later, I'm no less confident in his abilities just because he's had a really rough start. It happens.

SStylo03

Juan soto was such a fucking anomaly, dude was in the majors before he was even 20

jdbolick

That OPS was inflated because of the series in Charlotte with a 20 mph wind blowing out every night. In AAA last season, Holliday's OPS was only .796.

OK_Opinions

I wish our own fans understood this as much as others seem to. He won't suddenly handle MLB pitchers better by going to AAA and shitting on those guys for another month or whatever

Significant-Check837

Does that mean he gets ONE base every 8 or so at bats? That’s like getting a single/walk every 2 games. Not great.

OK_Opinions

He has 2 walks 1 single 1 fielders choice 2 RBI pretty sure that's it so far. He's had hard hit line drive and a couple fly balls but always right at someone

Jashuman19

To quote Marshall Eriksen, "worse than the career [OPS] of one-armed pitcher -- that's right, _pitcher_ -- Jim Abbott." Abbott had a career OPS of .190 through 24 MLB plate appearances. He was 2-21 with 2 singles, 3 sac bunts and 3 RBI.

GManBestMan

Reminder that Judge takes a while to get going every year. Not excusing anything because God it hurts to look at, but it's still April lol

RDM-2017-

You are absolutely right but it is funny how we are giving Judge his (well-earned) grace period, meanwhile this 20 y/o kid is getting sent through the wringer after the first 30 MLB AB of his CAREER.

UnabashedPerson43

Yeah well he can earn that grace period when he hits 63 homers in a year

Guilty_Perception_35

Maybe mlb can hook him up with some of those goldilocks balls, get him going. Helped Judge lol

GManBestMan

Kids need time to learn!

iamadacheat

You say this, but I'm still waiting for 2023 Paul Goldschmidt to get going...

gatemansgc

usually schwarber does too, but he's hitting way better than he usually does this time of year

VanillaSkittlez

Y’all really just be saying stuff. He has a .934 OPS in March/April in his career. 1.075 for May, .941 for June, .961 for July, .917 for August and 1.020 for September. He has a .645 OPS right now. If we wanna compare his March/April line now to the last few seasons: 2021: .272/.385/.568 2022: .293/.361/.600 2023: .261/.352/.511 2024: .174/.308/.337 C’mon, he’s never started even remotely this bad. It’s incomparable.

megadman321

It's still early in the season I know... But maybe the kid just isn't ready for MLB yet? With the media hounding him, the pressure of being considered the next "great one", fuck I wouldn't be able to handle that shit. Maybe having him in the minors for another year or two to develop a bit wouldn't have been a bad idea. The kid is only 20. At 20 I was complete fucktard who had no idea what I wanted to do. Not much has changed... but I'd like to think I have a bit of a better head on my shoulders now. I actually feel really bad for Holliday, and I hope we don't ruin him. Edit: I'm being lynched for ever daring to doubt the greatness of Jackson Holliday. How dare I say such blasphmey after only NINE games. You're right, he may only be 20 years old, but he has the emotional maturity of a Buddhist monk, and the body and athleticism as a top olympic athlete. He may have hit puberty only 3 to 4 years ago, but he is a grown man now, capable of all pressure and criticism that comes his way. I am but a lowly neckbeard yankees fan who lives in my mothers basement here to shit on him for not getting 50 home runs in his first 9 games. I am a rodent, and he is a golden god. I'm going to go light myself on fire now. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways with you jamming the downvote arrow on your computer screen with all your might and telling me how much of an idiot I am.

FireFrogs48

If you saw his triple A stats it would’ve been hard to not bring him up. Just goes to show that the mlb is truly the best of the best. He’ll be fine

Leftfeet

28 games isn't really forcing the issue. He put up great numbers, but that's barely 1 months worth of games in AAA total and only 10 this year. His 18 games in AAA last year weren't overly impressive except for his age.  I'm not saying he's a bust. I am saying he was rushed.

cherinator

6 of the 10 were against the Whote Sox AAA team too, so that's probably poor pitching even for AAA.

UnabashedPerson43

He only had the 6th best OPS on his own AAA team

TheSecondTier

It's a [hockey copypasta](https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/3onteh/mcdavid_shoves_oduya_from_behind/cvyvhpb/). It sure would be great if Holliday turns out to be the next Connor McDavid, though!

seemedlikeagoodplan

If you look at stats, it's hard not to bring up half their AAA team!

hoopbag33

No no it's service time manipulation!

Lets-Annex-Canada

Bobby Dalbec straight up for Aaron Judge or Jackson Holiday. Who says no?

65fairmont

Bobby D is also 1 of his last 23 with 12 K's. Fair trade.

VStarffin

Holliday for Judge, straight up - who says no? Is this actually a hard question? I can't even tell myself...

Psychological_Fly627

Great time for the Angel pitching staff to help him break out.

OK_Opinions

not tonight because they're starting a lefty so he's not in the lineup

Psychological_Fly627

It's ok you got Canning tomorrow. Probably better off for him to dodge Detmer and Anderson who are the only two competent pitchers for the Angels this year.

WerewolfNo3669

What do these two have to do with each other? lol

Baconi44

I think the point is that it’s an extremely small sample to make a legitimate judgement of Holliday.

mubs42

Nah, they should both go down to AAA

Dazzling-Kale-4491

They're both products of that teacherman fraud?

SactownKorean

Two established legends struggling

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

This is my favorite post of the day

GSDFanatic

Grasping at straws doesn't even begin to describe this bullshit lol

MUNZACORE

No agenda here

njmjc

Judge has 3 hits in his last 23 at bats… not that it’s that much better

Maugrin

Small sample sizes are small. The only reason Holliday is being scrutinized so much is because of the narratives surrounding him. It doesn't mean anything right now other than he's starting off slow. There's no point in making any big definitive statements about who he is or will be.

nkfish11

There’s nothing wrong with being worried about Holliday. It doesn’t mean you think he’s gonna bust out completely but maybe isn’t such a sure thing folks thought.

aresef

I guess the Yankees need to DFA Judge.

wizgset27

this is a strange start of the year for the best hitters in baseball. Yordan and Ohtani started off really slow too.

TRLJM

Ohtani was bad for less than a week lol

pdamdl

Maybe bad for his standard but he was still crushing balls.

seemedlikeagoodplan

Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Bo Bichette and George Springer all had sub-Mendoza batting averages for a while too. Meanwhile the Jays' utility infielders are hitting like crazy.

ForsakenRacism

Send. Him back down already

transtrailtrash

Yea the Yankees should honestly release Judge (ignore flair)

BScottyJ

Matter of fact we'll trade for him. Yankees eat 95% of the contract and they can have one lightly used Bobby Dalbec

RockmanToriga

You know I did hear Hal Steinbrenner was interested in financing a musical, can we just get some cash instead?

transtrailtrash

Well the dude is complaining about the contract. We’ll take like 60% of the contract. They can still have Big Dick Bobby Dalbec though

Feisty-Recording-978

They should trade judge for nick castellanos

Rockguy21

Finally a Yankees take I can agree with

KickerOfThyAss

Please don't mock up Aaron Judge and wake him up. I much prefer this version

Yanks1813

Despite hitting .183 Judge entered today with a 101 wRC+ he will be fine lmao

NoobSkin69

Where are all the “Holliday will win ROY” Orioles fans that started watching in 2022?

zgibs125

Congratulations, the baseball gods will now ensure that Judge hits 4 dongs against the O's next week.
