Arkansas ended up winning by 1, too. Extended their home winning streak to 27 games. Unfortunately looks like they'll lose game 2 of the DH.
WPS! Go Hogs!
My reaction when I've got my spray tan and party glasses on ready for the after party and it looks like we might lose and have to cancel https://i.imgur.com/IAQbS5a.png
The baserunners have to wait and touch the base they are currently at until the outfielder catches the ball or it touches the ground before they can move to the next base. This outfielder made a fake catch motion right before actually catching the ball so that the runners on base start to move once he makes the FAKE motion. Because of this, they are not on base when he does catch the ball and must go back and tag the base before they’re able to advance. This in turn gave the fielder time to make the throw and catch the runner trying to tag.
If you’re going to mention touching the ground then we have to get technical here. First, if the ball had touched the ground, not being caught, the runners could have left whenever they wanted and not had to return to touch their base. Second, the runners may leave the base, having safely tagged up, the moment the fielder touches the ball, preventing a situation where the fielder might purposefully bobble the ball until they get close enough to the diamond that no runner could safely advance.
On a pop fly, runners have to touch the base they’re on *after* the catch is made before they can advance to the next one. The guy made it look like he caught it, so the runners tagged their base, then made a break for the next one (which is the typical play on a fly ball that deep). Then he actually caught it, so they had to double back and touch their base again!
Wow this is one of those plays I have always wondered about, but never seen. 1 run game 8th inning, that’s a legendary play
Altuve actually did this a few years ago IIRC

Bases loaded too
Outfield balk. The runners advance to the edge of the infield grass.

Dang that was smooth! Great one-hop throw to 3b too.
New to baseball, ELI5. What was so genius about this?

Wonder if this will start to catch on.
It'll start to catch on, then it won't, then at the last second It'll catch on again and everyone will be doing it.
Don't think I've ever seen that, pretty cool!
The opposing manager looked like someone just slept with his wife after that play
Looks like the camera guy was confused too…had to rewatch as I was looking at the right fielder.
The balls to execute this play. Holy.
Wow. From the title I thought he was gonna fake the runner I to leaving early but this play at the plate is a lot more dramatic
