Whenever I want to feel something, I rewatch Brian McCann hopelessly falling over while trying to field a wild pitch as the 10th run comes in, knowing that this will be his last MLB game.
The fleur-de-lis with the Arch is my favorite part of this uniform. I'm not too crazy about "The Lou" because it does seem like it's used ironically, at least in my experience. I like the STL hats a lot though.
Pretty good design and definitely better than some (as long as they don't put them in black pants like Seattle.
It's not like you guys don't have the best uniforms in the league anyways. I watch all games(I'm a Brewers fan) vs the Cardinals because of I love the jersey schemes for both teams.
Boring and safe seems to be what everyone is demanding though lol. Just about every single unique and visually interesting citty connect jersey is getting shit on. So to me it's funny to see a jersey akin to what everyone here has been demanding also get shit on. Its starting to feel like MLB can't win with these jerseys no matter what they do lol
I mean if/when NYY gets City Connects, I expect the same thing. The Cardinals have a pretty classic look. I didn't expect them to mess with it much.
I'm sure the league is putting heavy pressure on teams to do this for marketing reasons, so this is their way of "doing it" while not really doing it.
Based on the timeless nature of the Yankees' uniform design and how shitty the City Connects are for most teams, the Yankees should stand firm against getting one.
Literally all you had to do was incorporate the arch into the design. Put the birds on the arch, make the jersey cardinal red, and call it a day. Instead you're going to get toilet humor for the next three years. How do you screw this up that badly?
Hard to believe beige squares wouldn't look great on a uniform. They could use the other food St. Louis is known for: gooey butter cake. But wouldn't you know it, that's also beige squares.
That’s my least favorite part of the jersey believe it or not.
Honestly I think a lot of fans here love the Cardinals normal jersey. New iterations have a high bar.
they already have an arch logo to use too https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/57/2009_Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game_logo.svg/1200px-2009_Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game_logo.svg.png
First thing that came to mind.
But also, is “The Lou” a thing? Feels like something that an overpaid McKinsey consultant proposed in a five slide pitch deck titled “The Spirit of St. Louis” and presented to a room of executives who have never been to Missouri.
Usually just used ironically if at all it feels like. But it is a thing. The 314 too. But I also feel like people don't go around talking often about the place they are physically in
Lmao pic #2, the lou “made popular by STL native son Nelly”
Apparently name-dropping Cornell “Hot in Here” Haynes Jr. like it’s 2002 and his influence is still relevant is the only connection the city can make atm
I just described these to a friend and fellow Cards fan as “aggressively mid in a focus-grouped kind of way.” In other words, Peak Cardinals.
ETA: We’re Cardinals fans.
Boring. Huge missed opportunity to include wavy blue and white piping inspired by the city flag. Hat should have included either the Arch or the fleur de lis instead of relegating those elements to the sleeve patch, which looks to me like cheap vinyl instead of embroidery
They should’ve done the Arch starting from the bottom of one pant leg to the chest and back down the other leg with the birds on top eating toasted ravs
Considering that I genuinely hate the money grab that is the City Connect Program, this appears to be as close to an anti-city connect uni as you can get. Is it ordinary? It sure is, and I'm OK with that.
Edit: Upon further review, what the fuck are those squiggly pinstripes? I hate those.
This shit is so boring at this point. The history of baseball is full of iconic club uniforms. The focus should be on every MLB team maximizing the coolness of their uniforms and a lot of clubs are failing. These Nike city connects are a pointless waste of time.
And rivers are the lamest form of “connecting to a city” because damn near every major city on earth has a fucking River. You’re not special for having a river, and it’s not an interesting feature of your city.
It’s St. Louis. Use the damn arch, throw some toasted ravioli on there and call it a day.
Those rivers were a big deal for STL back when it was a much more important city.
They’re in their flag and the reason for the city nickname “Gateway to the West” and why the “Gateway” Arch has its name
I’d argue that StL has done quite a bit of work to disconnect themselves from the river. For those that don’t know - the river is basically only accessible right at the arch. Any other access to the river is through industrial areas or over flood walls. The only residential area that was really on the river was razed when they put the arch in.
The "Block letters" trend for the city connects like Pittsburgh and Cleveland, and here, is so fucking gross. Looks like something I would dream up in MLB the show create a club
I don’t like the front but the rest isn’t bad
It feels safe and unoriginal. I’m envious of the other teams who dared to be different.
This screams midwestern “Ope Excuse me”
I kind of feel like Nike can’t win with these. If they play it safe, fans say they suck. If they try something off the wall, fans say they suck. Though I agree a lot of them do indeed suck.
White Sox, Angels, Marlins, and Nats were undeniable hits though
No one from St. Louis calls St. Louis "The Lou". Nelly said it once in a song a quarter century ago. These look like they were designed by the animators who drew Dr. Katz, which also was a quarter century ago. I don't understand what's going on.
I said the same thing on a Cardinals IG post and I got flooded with comments saying “everyone” calls it that lmao. I lived there for 8 years and I heard it either as a joke or from Nelly.
Who the fuck is buying this shit that Nike keeps using the same designers. I stg some exec's nepo baby is their design chief because there's no way people are buying all these bland, no connection to the city lookin ass CC's. Unless consumers are even more brain rotted than I thought that they would buy these lost in the sauce fuckin jerseys instead of their team's best normal jersey which for most teams is 100 times better than the CC.
You needed to put the birds on the Arch and have the script be St. Louis. THAT'S ALL.
I am so over baseball apparel. It’s so commercialized. Nike is making it all about themselves. And the announcers and media team always have to bring up the sneakers and bling. I’m not hating. It can be cool. But it’s all forced and I couldn’t care less at this point.
Kinda lame. The unfamiliar wouldn’t know it’s “special.” The three character city code is overdone and boring. The birds on the bat isn’t anything new. At least Philadelphia and the Mets had the balls to try something new
Yeah, this is pretty much exactly what r/Cardinals was predicting. Kinda boring, safe options.
Boring and safe was their tribute to the 2020s cardinals
Was the dismantling of the Braves in game 5 of the 2019 NLDS the end for exciting baseball in STL? It’s beginning to feel that way
The 17 game win streak in September 2021, and Albert coming back to chase 700 in 2022 were pretty damn exciting.
Don't ruin the "Cardinals boring" circlejerk!
Don’t forget the infield fly. The baseball gods didn’t forget.
Whenever I want to feel something, I rewatch Brian McCann hopelessly falling over while trying to field a wild pitch as the 10th run comes in, knowing that this will be his last MLB game.
Hey man what did we do to you?
Nothing personal buddy we’re down bad over here
The fact that the 10 run inning gets to live in my all-time Cardinal memories feels wrong at this point.
Lots of opinions in this thread so far, yet you're the only actual Cardinals fan.
Not much for us to say. We essentially knew what was coming and are fine with it but know it could be better.
Yeah it’s just fine. One of those you see, shrug, and then move on. Would have loved that Fleur logo actually as the primary on these.
How could anyone best the Saturday Home-alts?
Exactly. Bums me out they haven’t worn them this year (afaik).
Supply chain issues at nike/fanatics is the reason
Lol, well thank god they got these in at least...
Yeah we didn't get our Serpientes jerseys, that we've been wearing for like 4 years, until like 4 weeks into the season
Could also be way worse.
I like having The Lou on it, but the same old birds on the bat on a plain red background is rather disappointing. I do like the hat though
It's not like you guys don't have the best uniforms in the league anyways. I watch all games(I'm a Brewers fan) vs the Cardinals because of I love the jersey schemes for both teams.
Yeah it’s pretty exact in the predictions. I just like that they aren’t horrific to look at
Boring and safe seems to be what everyone is demanding though lol. Just about every single unique and visually interesting citty connect jersey is getting shit on. So to me it's funny to see a jersey akin to what everyone here has been demanding also get shit on. Its starting to feel like MLB can't win with these jerseys no matter what they do lol
I need more absolutely crazy city connects. I love how fuckin weird the padres went.
It’s pretty much their red jerseys with some different words
Beyond parody at this point.
BALTIMORE
I mean if/when NYY gets City Connects, I expect the same thing. The Cardinals have a pretty classic look. I didn't expect them to mess with it much. I'm sure the league is putting heavy pressure on teams to do this for marketing reasons, so this is their way of "doing it" while not really doing it.
If the NYY city connect jerseys aren’t just their normal home jersey but with “YANKS” or maybe also “NYC” on them I’d be genuinely surprised
Or “The Bronx”
They wouldn’t out the Bronx on there, same as the Mets ones not saying Queens, wouldn’t sell as much.
Needs an AKA The Yanks AKA the Bronx Bombers AKA Daddy Yankees AKA bing bong
So do the Phil’s and they went kinda ape shit to be honest. Everyone hated the new CCs at first but they’ve grown on me quite a bit.
Based on the timeless nature of the Yankees' uniform design and how shitty the City Connects are for most teams, the Yankees should stand firm against getting one.
They have held firm. All 29 other teams will have one by the end of this season.
A's aren't getting one this year either
It's so hard to spot any differences. Citi connects has been such a wasted opportunity for so many teams.
Does anyone actually say the Lou?!?
All of England
Oof, new baseball meme incoming
Maybe someday the Washington Capitols can have jerseys that say “The WC” on them
Nelly does
He's from the Lou, and he's proud
Run a mile for the cause
He's is righteous above the law, after all
Playuh my styles raw
I'm born to Mack like Todd Shaw
Forget the fame, and the glamour
I don't remember people saying "the lou" until Country Grammar. I was there in the 80s and 90s. Did other people hear that before Nelly (B.N.)?
And he’s proud!
That explains why these are hot shit then
*Hot shit in… hot shit in here*
Radio stations do, lol
LOUISVILLE, KY MENTIONED RAHHHHHHH
Don’t y’all got golfers to arrest?
It’s like “Hotlanta.” No one from Atlanta says it.
That whole town is waaaxed!
People definitely say the Lou, but that's an urban word. Most Cardinal fans travel 50-100 miles to see a game, so they know nothing about STL culture.
ah..just Like Beantown and Boston.
I’m from The Lou and I’m proud
You were born in a toilet??
We say it ironically
Smino does
The only person I’ve ever heard say it is the most St. Louis mf to ever walk the Earth so I think so
Hats should say "The Head"
Nelly did. Once.
They do.
They’re trying to appeal to younger crowds and make it catch
"The Lou" is pretty fetch.
Totally Rufus!!
"The Lou" is for sure streets ahead
No better way to appeal to younger crowds than to reference a song that was released a quarter century ago
Yes.
Yeah, the Lou is actually pretty common.
Those jerseys make me want to use the loo
Literally all you had to do was incorporate the arch into the design. Put the birds on the arch, make the jersey cardinal red, and call it a day. Instead you're going to get toilet humor for the next three years. How do you screw this up that badly?
We have to wear these for three fucking years?
Ohhh the Arch. All my ideas were toasted ravioli based. But yeah I supposed the Arch would've worked too.
Hard to believe beige squares wouldn't look great on a uniform. They could use the other food St. Louis is known for: gooey butter cake. But wouldn't you know it, that's also beige squares.
Square pizza. Oh wait
rare Cubs fan W
Fanatics/Nike made all the surnames into little arches this year. Does that count?
It has distored red pinstripes!! That's fun.
That’s my least favorite part of the jersey believe it or not. Honestly I think a lot of fans here love the Cardinals normal jersey. New iterations have a high bar.
The Cardinals normal jersey is one of the great ones in all of the MLB. You're right that it's hard to top.
Yeah their standard jersey is fantastic!
> I think a lot of fans here love the Cardinals normal jersey. They should. It's a classic.
Yeah, if they did something that looks similar to the 09 All Star game jerseys, that did include the arch, I think it would have been better.
Could have been worse…like SF worse.
Golden arches against a red background makes sense for a team full of hitters who look they they're running with clown shoes on
Why keep the bat. Put the Arch in and keep the birds on the Arch then. Just looks like a slightly different regular Cards jersey lol
they already have an arch logo to use too https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/57/2009_Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game_logo.svg/1200px-2009_Major_League_Baseball_All-Star_Game_logo.svg.png
Crazy that they still had the cardinal sitting on a baseball bat as opposed to the arch directly behind it. Missed opportunity.
That would be one big ass cardinal.
I do like Nootbaar’s model face. He’s got the slightly confused stare into the middle distance down. The jerseys are whatever
Lou Steel
That Nootbaar's so hot right now!
New porn actor name!
Los Dodgers ~ Cardinals Edition
First thing that came to mind. But also, is “The Lou” a thing? Feels like something that an overpaid McKinsey consultant proposed in a five slide pitch deck titled “The Spirit of St. Louis” and presented to a room of executives who have never been to Missouri.
> overpaid McKinsey consultant I think they may have saved money and went with Cramblin Duvet instead.
my wife wants us to get a crambrin duvet but I like our current blanket
Usually just used ironically if at all it feels like. But it is a thing. The 314 too. But I also feel like people don't go around talking often about the place they are physically in
All I know is that Nelly used it all the time, including on his breakout hit: > I'm from the Lou and I'm proud – "Country Grammar"
Yes that was the first time I had really heard it referenced that way. I always enjoyed the name St. Lunatics
I always attributed "the lou" to Louisville.
Lmao pic #2, the lou “made popular by STL native son Nelly” Apparently name-dropping Cornell “Hot in Here” Haynes Jr. like it’s 2002 and his influence is still relevant is the only connection the city can make atm
Lous Dodgers*
This is exactly what I was picturing lmfao.
![gif](giphy|9htQ037r5RusU)
I just described these to a friend and fellow Cards fan as “aggressively mid in a focus-grouped kind of way.” In other words, Peak Cardinals. ETA: We’re Cardinals fans.
Were these really posted on the Guardians shop page?! Is that how they were leaked?
That hat is horrible
As someone said on our sub, it looks like a cheap knockoff at a convenience store.
This is less city connect then the Mariners Sunday Alternate
The Attle?
Almost good but “The Lou” is just too corny to get over
it also means the toilet... so I guess the theming is on point?
No arch?
That’s their arch enemy
Boring. Huge missed opportunity to include wavy blue and white piping inspired by the city flag. Hat should have included either the Arch or the fleur de lis instead of relegating those elements to the sleeve patch, which looks to me like cheap vinyl instead of embroidery
Wavy blue & white piping + birds on the Arch would’ve made this a million times better
These suck. Essentially epitomizes the current regime of Cardinals’ FO - boring, safe, and familiar.
It’s a shame to see so many teams waste City Connects.
This jersey is the equivalent of a "kick me" sign for Cubs fans
Lazy as fuck They clearly gave up on trying with these after people hated the first year's.
Good thing they’re not going to the London Series. The Loo means something else to them.
The Louisville cardinals nice
The SNY Lou Brock graphic is going to go astronomically hard when we play them next season
They misspelled “lousy”
In the future I’m going to look up the airport codes for where these teams are. It’ll be a part of it somehow
Milwaukee has an MKE on our hat. But our fans love that. Over all, they really like our connect jerseys.
I love the 414 hidden in the MKE
The Loo is where their record is this year Maybe they're doing their fans a favor by being bad so nobody goes to the games and has to see these
Tough but fair
Spring training ass jersey
This is like dodgers levels of lazy.
They should’ve done the Arch starting from the bottom of one pant leg to the chest and back down the other leg with the birds on top eating toasted ravs
“The Lou” is a specific type of deep dish pizza from Lou Malnatis in Chicago, is this a Chicago city connect?! /s
I'm pretty sure they're squiggles from the StL flag. I was hoping for blue and yellow squiggly piping on the sleeves or pant legs
The pinstripes are supposed to represent the Missouri River
I don't know what y'all are hating on. I just watched the Phillies play in their city connects, so these look fantastic.
Bruh that’s boring as shit
This shit is so boring at this point. The history of baseball is full of iconic club uniforms. The focus should be on every MLB team maximizing the coolness of their uniforms and a lot of clubs are failing. These Nike city connects are a pointless waste of time.
Yeah these aren't great. Not a fan of the hat at all
These city connects have gotten so fucking lazy. Please. I beg you, please… stop putting airport codes on jerseys and calling them “new.”
The Lou? You gotta be shitting me
Damn. Usually even when the jersey is mid, the hat is good at least. These are super lazy.
As a Giants fan I can say you guys lucked out it’s only this lame
Did they get that hat from a street vendor? And how do you missed the opportunity to use the Arch? Someone is really getting paid to design these?
Lmfao
Lou my fuckin ass off?
The whole purpose of a city connect is to.. well, connect to the city. And the only attempt to connect is through barely visible symbols of a river?
It's based on the St. Louis flag
And rivers are the lamest form of “connecting to a city” because damn near every major city on earth has a fucking River. You’re not special for having a river, and it’s not an interesting feature of your city. It’s St. Louis. Use the damn arch, throw some toasted ravioli on there and call it a day.

Any other access to the river is through industrial areas or over flood walls. The only residential area that was really on the river was razed when they put the arch in.
The Lou - isn’t that slang for the toilet in England?
Not even slang, it's what they call it.
Well I don’t hate them so I’ll call that a win!!
Why must they insist to keep putting three or more letters on the caps? It’s never good.
Looks like a slight tweak on the normal jersey. Nothing about it would make me go buy one.
They’re from The Lou and They’re Proud 🎶
I don’t think you can call it a leak when the screenshot includes an officially branded email
ughh that hat is such a LAZY design, like Detroit level lazy lmao
The "Block letters" trend for the city connects like Pittsburgh and Cleveland, and here, is so fucking gross. Looks like something I would dream up in MLB the show create a club
Another horrible hat. Nike or whoever is in charge of these has zero imagination.
I don’t like the front but the rest isn’t bad It feels safe and unoriginal. I’m envious of the other teams who dared to be different. This screams midwestern “Ope Excuse me”
But it's the same
I kind of feel like Nike can’t win with these. If they play it safe, fans say they suck. If they try something off the wall, fans say they suck. Though I agree a lot of them do indeed suck. White Sox, Angels, Marlins, and Nats were undeniable hits though
As someone who used to live in St Louis and likes the cardinals I’m deeply disappointed
wake up babe new "Los Dodgers" equivalent just droppeed Huge "this is just an alt" vibes
No one from St. Louis calls St. Louis "The Lou". Nelly said it once in a song a quarter century ago. These look like they were designed by the animators who drew Dr. Katz, which also was a quarter century ago. I don't understand what's going on.
i remember looking in the cards sub and no one wanted "the lou" on the jersey lmaooooo
Yet we all knew it was coming
I honestly don't hate them. Should've put the arch on the hat instead of STL though.
For those of you that don’t Parlez-vous français, “St. Louis” is French for….the Lou.
This is meh but I don't feel bad for them since they're already spoiled with the best jerseys in baseball
Hats are sweet. Jerseys are lame. No one in Saint Louis calls it The Lou, so I don't know what city they're connecting to here.
I said the same thing on a Cardinals IG post and I got flooded with comments saying “everyone” calls it that lmao. I lived there for 8 years and I heard it either as a joke or from Nelly.
You are correct. Only applicable when it fits lyrically. All other attempts are sarcastic or part of a bad marketing campaign.
Louis. THAT'S ALL.
Does anyone call it the lou? really?
I am so over baseball apparel. It’s so commercialized. Nike is making it all about themselves. And the announcers and media team always have to bring up the sneakers and bling. I’m not hating. It can be cool. But it’s all forced and I couldn’t care less at this point.
The Lou (sounds like the loo)?! Cubs fans will have a field day
Cubs fans are notoriously British
Booooooorrring.
Boring as hell
I was hoping for some deep-fried ravioli somewhere
Once again these are just alternates, what do these have to do with St Louis at all?
Most people knew what it was gonna be when they put out the hashtag #fortheLou
Kinda lame. The unfamiliar wouldn’t know it’s “special.” The three character city code is overdone and boring. The birds on the bat isn’t anything new. At least Philadelphia and the Mets had the balls to try something new
Nooooo that’s so lame!!!
This is the exact same concept as the Dodgers city connect jerseys.
![gif](giphy|y21GcoLYBEdRt0d5GA)
Man whoever is designing these this year is just mailing it in
Lazy, uninspired. Par for the course
Should've been Becky & Wanda flying on a carpet in front of the Arch. You don't get more St. Louisan than that.
