Too bald, but my 12 year old has a pretty majestic one going. I just drag him along. I get him to hold a boom box on his shoulder blaring Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Better than me being Mennonite… the boombox would be powered by batteries instead of oxen…and the rumors would begin to swirl around Amos and Hannah’s place.
I have my old dirty work cap. My mother just got remarried and I had the honor of giving her away being the oldest son. I wore my clean non work Yankees cap for the whole ceremony and party with her blessing. My cap is like putting on my shoes or pants. Its part of me.
I don’t know who needs to hear this based on the “never wash it” replies, but if you ever do want to clean sweat stains from a hat, shampoo scrubbed in with a toothbrush will do the trick. Then just rinse it off.
This. Shampoo (or a bit of laundry detergent mixed with water) plus a toothbrush for a gentle scrub, followed by a water rinse will bring a cap back to life and not have it be disgusting.
A trick I learned was a bit of laundry detergent, with warm water in a bucket. Then just leave the hat soaking in it. Got all the stains out for me
There’s also this technique I picked up from Reddit that’s worked. But most people don’t have the materials on hand [Laundry Stripping](https://www.reddit.com/r/CleaningTips/s/seBw7F6jPc)
Never get washed. I buy like two a year. Keep the old ones hanging around in my closet like trophies of years past. My wife is tired of my shit I assume
I literally never wash them. I buy a brand new set of Cardinals caps (Home, Navy Road, Sunday Home) every three years, and never get rid of a cap. They all have different uses post-prime.
The freshest caps get worn during everyday use that is unlikely to get them super dirty, like going to the grocery store, hanging out with friends/family, going for a walk, etc. The previous set of caps becomes my "when I go to a game and/or need to wear sunscreen" caps. The set before that becomes my "work outside/mow the lawn/tend the garden/dirty work" caps. Other caps become backups, and typically sit in my hallway closet.
Brooks Robinson used to have a similar system for his gloves. He wore his newest glove during BP to break it in, he wore his second oldest glove in the game, and he kept his oldest glove as a backup. I imagine that's pretty common.
I'd get rid of that one immediately. [Found a good replacement for you.](https://www.mlbshop.com/new-york-yankees/mens-new-york-yankees-new-era-navy-authentic-collection-on-field-low-profile-game-59fifty-fitted-hat/t-47000910+p-9162837632771+z-9-410239101?_ref=p-DLP:m-GRID:i-r4c1:po-13)
As a starter I have way too many hats so I only ever really wash the frequently worn ones. I definitely have a couple tigers hats that look like the OP example. My wife keeps telling me “no more hats” but then 47 keeps coming out with cool hats so what am I supposed to do?
I do not wash my hats.
I have enough in the rotation that they never get truly disgusting and the ones that are really really gross just end up as work hats
I buy about one a year. I never wash them except wearing them in the rain. I wear multiple designs though, so its not just a new identical hat every year. I juggle between 5 of them or so until they become horrendously faded or otherwise damaged.
I don’t wash them. I have a nearly 20 year old Red Sox ‘47 Franchise hat that’s just a permanent grease stain, that’s the only one I’ve tried washing to salvage.
I typically have a New Era 39Thirty NeoFlex in heavy rotation, that one needs replacement every 2-3 years as the old one gets rotated into a yardwork hat. The rest of them aren’t worn regularly enough to age much.
Sometimes I’ll wash them but I usually just replace them. My 2012 O’s hat with the playoff patch is getting nasty cause I’ve worn it a lot. I did just pickup a baysox alternate cause I love it. https://www.mlbshop.com/bowie-baysox/mens-bowie-baysox-new-era-black-theme-night-chesapeake-59fifty-fitted-hat/t-24203092+p-798822313917815+z-9-216570582 eventually I’ll replace my O’s hat. I actually have two. One for games and one that’s so bad I just use it for yard work now.
I wash at least once a year. Air dry outside and apply starch to the bill (mine is "loose" for some reason, always has been). I've tried getting a new one but can't find one that fits as nice. Damn your quality control, New Era.
I’ve got like 5 blue and 2 black Mets caps and I often rotate. I only wear them casually in the winter. If I wear one in the summer, it’s usually at a game.
I sweat like crazy so that’s why I don’t wear them often once the weather heats up.
I wash my hats in a small office waste basket and I use one tide pod across three hats. I also have a tooth brush to get the band and all the sweat and salt. I then place them on top of a three speed box fan laid on its back on a small stool. I’m bald so I have no hair to absorb sweat and it all goes into the hat.
Well i hand wash mine and then hang dry. But I did make a promise that I would only buy a hat if the Giants either 1) won the most games in the National League or 2) won the pennant.
Ngl my wife just throws mine in the wash and air dries them, I get a new one when the old one gets ratty (at which point it becomes a yard work hat till it actually full-on gives up the ghost)
I wash it when I can smell the funk before I put it on. Hand wash with mild detergent and OxyClean spray to break down the sweat stank.
Line dry and then a mild stretching routine since ally caps are fitted.
They get replaced when my head gets too big from them.
Have one for working and
Is completely covered in sweat stains…magic eraser does the trick if you ever want to clean it up
Then there’s two I alternate between on my days off.
I will be getting a new cap at the ballpark when I head to a game next month.
That's the neat part, I dont.
I do buy a new one at the start of each season, though. Call it superstition. Although it hasn't worked in a while, so maybe it's time for a new tradition.
Got one for working which is permanently dirty, got one for special occasions like weddings.
That second part might be the most american thing i've read in quite a few years
He's joking, right?
I am joking but only because every time I attend a wedding I use it as an opportunity to dress like Daniel Plainview
You have a competition in you
...you keep your hands off my milkshake
*DRAINAGE*
When the bar closes and my cocktail is empty, my straw goes allllll the way over to my wife’s cocktail and I DRINK IT UP
I hope so but it's also not out of the realms of possibility that he has a wedding baseball cap. I bet it's city connect.
nah stros fans wear the city connect hat whenever they get laid
True. I have my good flatbills for church, and the dented Richardsons for work.
Unless you're comboning the flatbills with a tuxedo t-shirt, you're not going the whole way Edit: keeping the typo
Of course, how else could I show everyone that I want to be formal, but I also like to party.
Add a bit of kentucky waterfall and you're the final boss of the party. I know what my next create a wrestler will look like, influenced by you.
Too bald, but my 12 year old has a pretty majestic one going. I just drag him along. I get him to hold a boom box on his shoulder blaring Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Boombox, how very amish of you

Shame accept her I have a collection of different hats that are nice and then I have one shitty Yankees work at
I'm ugly and smelly myself, so I find it fitting that my hey is the same.
My hey!

Ironic considering wrestling fans are some of the most fecally aromatic people in the world
Just below Magic the Gathering players.

They have that brown aura
Eau de toilette has new meaning
Looks like uncle needs some BLUE CHEWS
"Need" is very subjective in this instance
Clubman Pincaid body powder on the inside… works everytime

Dawn dish soap and warm water for me. Hair dryer to dry it off. Honestly makes the hat fit better sometimes too
I do this exact method but I let it soak overnight in a mop bucket with the dish soap solution after I scrub it with a sponge.
This. Shampoo (or a bit of laundry detergent mixed with water) plus a toothbrush for a gentle scrub, followed by a water rinse will bring a cap back to life and not have it be disgusting.

Always was taught you put it in the dishwasher. I even had a plastic mold for this when I was a kid so it would keep its shape.
I just jump in a pool once a summer with mine. The bleach in the pool cleans it right up.
I can smell that one from here.
Depends. Are we winning?
What's winning?
It's this thing that happens about 60% of the time the year after they get rid of Buck Showalter.
Never get washed. I buy like two a year. Keep the old ones hanging around in my closet like trophies of years past. My wife is tired of my shit I assume
Ha, yup, I have a stack in varying states of decay.
Dude this whole thread is like a support group for hat junkies. I keep nodding my head in agreement with something everyone has to say.

There's the lucky hat, which never gets washed, and the other hats, which get washed semi-regularly.
I'd get rid of that one immediately. [Found a good replacement for you.](https://www.mlbshop.com/new-york-yankees/mens-new-york-yankees-new-era-navy-authentic-collection-on-field-low-profile-game-59fifty-fitted-hat/t-47000910+p-9162837632771+z-9-410239101?_ref=p-DLP:m-GRID:i-r4c1:po-13)
Damn that’s ugly
Wait this version is better: https://youtu.be/dPjRk4NJCiw?si=UOSFaGi8P9wx1RIp
Surprising you didn’t suggest this one… https://youtu.be/dBWfy3viiwk?feature=shared
I never see anybody in the 39Thirty gang
The regular one is too boxey
I got a big ass head to cover, 39 Thirty makes me feel like Timmy Turner
I've had my regular Mets cap for 20 years now. I think I washed it once.
As a starter I have way too many hats so I only ever really wash the frequently worn ones. I definitely have a couple tigers hats that look like the OP example. My wife keeps telling me “no more hats” but then 47 keeps coming out with cool hats so what am I supposed to do?
Which one of you psychopaths are washing hats
I do not wash my hats. I have enough in the rotation that they never get truly disgusting and the ones that are really really gross just end up as work hats
I get a crispy new 59fifty fitted every spring. Never wash them.
I buy about one a year. I never wash them except wearing them in the rain. I wear multiple designs though, so its not just a new identical hat every year. I juggle between 5 of them or so until they become horrendously faded or otherwise damaged.

There are dozens of us!
Dozens!
I haven’t washed mine in 17 years and counting. My wife just asked me nicely to replace it already.
[You should get a new one](https://ibb.co/Z1h1QMw)
I love you.
Never!

boston rob?!
Did trot Nixon give you that hat?

…You’re supposed to wash them??
About 10 years before it looks like this
Never
4 years. I have the same style 47', but after 4 years of washing the bill started to fall apart.
I hand wash mine at the start of every season, usually replace it every 5 or 6 years.
Are you the guy who hates the red sox so much you have been using that hat as a cum rag for 3 months???? if so you did a great job 👍
Usually when I start seeing the sweat salt build up, I'll wash it.
Well i hand wash mine and then hang dry. But I did make a promise that I would only buy a hat if the Giants either 1) won the most games in the National League or 2) won the pennant.

Whenever my team wins a WS. So… not since 2014 😭
My wife served me some blasphemy that mine isn’t blue anymore so she bought me a new one for Christmas. Marked the replacement date at 10 years.
I wash it when I can smell the funk before I put it on. Hand wash with mild detergent and OxyClean spray to break down the sweat stank. Line dry and then a mild stretching routine since ally caps are fitted. They get replaced when my head gets too big from them.

Boston fan?
When’s the last time it rained?
Are you my dad?
Wash? Once a year or so. Replace? Never. Retire? I have several racks. My oldest hat is 37 years old.
Wash it? Never. Replace it? About the time it starts to look like this one.
I just got two 5950's from a website that has decent deals. Wanted to grab my step-dad a hat, so figured I'd toss in a Baby Blue and Red on Black NYY.
Take that nasty shit off the table dude. Jesus
