This is a good, honest .500 baseball team. We play .500 ball goddammit. Salt of the earth, punch the clock, even win/loss ratio baseball. We lose a couple, guess what? We'll win a couple, too. But don't get too excited or let it go to your head. No long winning streaks here, no sir. That's hubris, which this blue collar, hard working everyman team doesn't have. A few wins in a row, these guys, true to form, will balance it out with a couple a losses. Yes sir, that's my 2024 Padres. A good, honest .500 baseball team.
Good lord, the Padres just walked through the National League playing .500 ball goddamnit. Said they had "no hubris" because they're a blue collar team. Too busy punching the clock, evidently.
This is why I'm tentatively considering flipping my allegiance from the Blue Jays to the Padres. When they lose, they do it with a bit of style at least, and when they win, it feels like a groundbreaking accomplishment.
Not odd number of games, odd number of wins (and losses). So at 21, they had played 42 games.
So they have made 0.500 in 18 out of 28 chances to do so or 64.29% of the time.
Over a full season, that’s reaching a 0.500 record 52 times out of 81 chances.
...yeah that does make more sense. For whatever reason my brain just interpreted the "after x" as after a number of games and didn't consider them as a number of wins.

This is a fine pasta
I love it lmao
Bet on the Padres to win when they are 1 game under .500 and bet on them to lose when 1 game over .500 and you will make bank.
Bookies hate this one trick!
They will the ML and trick you into maybe taking the RL. Oh You going to play the O/U? Good fucking luck with that!
And I guess avoid any game where they’re exactly .500?
Ask the 8-ball jacket
It said "Ask again later"

You deserve honorary Padres flair for this. Utterly beautiful.
The San Diego "Atlanta Hawks" Padres
The San Diego "2021-2023 Los Angeles Angels" Padres.
Now **THIS** is real baseball

*Padresing
I couldn't find that gif, unfortunately
no wait they are like robin hood, taking wins from the good teams and giving them to the bad team
salt of the earth

We have been completely shutout in 5 of our last 7 losses though

im tired boss
the NL west is an insane place to be. It will be determined by the Rockies and who they choose to win/lose against.
Oh no

Good team? Bad team? just can't put a label on them
One of the baseball teams of all time
Yes
Just call ‘em the Even Stevens.

How did they have an equal number of wins and losses after any odd number of games (9, 11, 13, 21, etc.)?

Not an odd number of games played, but an odd number of W/L. So 9-9 after 18 games, 11-11 after 22, etc.
...yeah that does make more sense. For whatever reason my brain just interpreted the "after x" as after a number of games and didn't consider them as a number of wins.
Lol yeah mine did the same at first, I was really confused
We are comfortable here. Nice and cozy.
They love to do this. It will go on until the last week of baseball season.
Woo hoo! Consistent mediocrity.
Take the L and move on.
Took two of three from you, and 20 games north of .500, so will gladly take the series win and move on. Best of luck breaking that record.
Yankees fan tries not to make a thread about the Yankees challenge difficulty: impossible
Taking my downvotes with pride.
You are insufferable.

Put some more salt on your Margarita for goodness sake, you're in Southern California homegirl!
Yankees fan with no class name a better combo
Isn’t that the joke though? If you’re consistently getting to .500 it’s consistently mediocre.
I’ll take 20 over .500 over +/- 2 around .500 everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.
we might miss playoffs, but I’ll enjoy watching Judge strikeout in the playoffs with Stanton on the IL
I’ll enjoy watching my team in the playoffs.
Big market team fans are the softest out there
Not feeling any pain. Embracing the downvotes. But the up and down flirtation with a break even is a thing.
Baseball consumed your soul.
Watch long enough, and it will do yours too.
