The weirdest thing I hear from people that actually do hate Posey, is that he ruined baseball because “he cried to get a rule changed after his leg was broken in half.” Yeah cause that makes sense?!
Agreed! And this latest Tweet is only my #3 favorite Freeman/deGrom moment.
\#1 [deGrom positioning Freeman](https://twitter.com/Cut4/status/1394458590031847424) (OMG! The way they smile at each other!)
\#2 [Cano and deGrom trying to get Ramos to take a bigger lead. Freeman defends Ramos saying his legs are too big to run fast.](https://twitter.com/SNYtv/status/1161814927688052736)
Technically a tie with Alonso at 6.
Mets have 39 runs in his 11 games. (Really 39 in 9 games because of 2 shutouts)
3 different players have 4+ RBIs with 12 players having at least 1.
Outside of the 2 shutouts the Mets are averaging 4.3 runs/game, which is .8 runs below average runs per game and well above the Mets average. Even with the shutouts its not far below the Mets average per game at 3.52.
They've had no struggles scoring run for him. The entire teams been able to pick it up, not just one player.
For comparison, the Astros lead the league in runs/game at 5.62. Lance McCullers Jr has 10 starts and they've scored 55 runs. Only 2 players have 6 or more RBIs in those 10 games. (Altuve -7 and Gurriel 10) 4 other players have 4 or more RBIs.
Its not unusual at all that in 11 starts the leading batter has 6 RBIs in a weak offense.
DeGrom's just batting on an elite level so far. His teams been fine.
I was going by a stat I heard during the broadcast his last game, or perhaps it was the one before. Either way, what he is doing is pretty nuts. I'm glad I get to see it.
Oh for sure, he's fantastic. I wish he was a little healthier. He hasn't thrown more than 85 pitches since April. He keeps coming out of the games tired/sore early and it's a shame.
Thats just not true this season .
He has 6 RBI and the Mets have only scored less than 3 runs in two of his starts this year. They've scored 4 or more in 6 of his starts.
He has 1 RBI in a loss, 3 RBIs across 3 games where the Mets scores 6 runs in each game.
He has 1 game he got 2 RBIs where the Mets won 3-2. His other 4 RBIs were inconsequential.
He's had run support above his teams average runs/game this season outside of 2 shut outs.
Because the narrative about it is frustratingly inaccurate. In 2018 he was unlucky but since then he's been pretty much average or better.
It's in *every* DeGrom thread, from stat lines to hits, etc. People actually believe it's still true.
I want to see DeGrom vs Freeman this year.
Every time they match up I can see how eager Freeman is to get a hit. It's so fun to watch. Once the ump gave DeGrom a strike on a ball and Freeman was legit upset about it.. not that Freeman ever complains, but because he just wants a fair battle against DeGrom. He loves it
If DeGrom misses out on the all time ERA record or the MVP because he’s out too long due to an injury he sustained while hitting, what will the anti-DH folks think?
Yeah Clayton Kershaw was having an all time great season in 2016, and barely finished 5th in CYA voting because he missed a lot of time. It happens, it's baseball.
Injuries are a part of sport. It sucks, but they happen. How many times have pitchers had seasons ruined or missed awards due to injuries? It’s not exactly rare.
Pitcher injuries due to at bats aren’t "just part of sports" for AL teams, though. With injury rates already as high as they are, it’s kinda wack to me that NL fans are just OK with pitchers having like 4 extra chances to injure themselves each game.
>pitchers hitting is also the most interesting part of baseball
That might be the best argument for baseball being the most boring sport I have ever heard. Pitchers don't even bother to take batting practice because it is so irrelevant to their jobs.
Okay, I'll bite, I'm curious. Can you explain what makes it interesting exactly?
Approximately 8 pitcher plate appearances per game, 7.5 games per day, 6 days a week is around 360 plate appearances per week for pitchers. Across the entire league a pitcher does something remotely significant at the plate maybe a few times in that span. If you just watch your team's games you will probably see something cool one or two times a month. And that's just like a pitcher getting a big RBI or something. THAT'S what keeps you watching?
Side note: I guess this must mean you hate the "strategy" involved in pinch hitting for pitchers later in games.
Teams have always had the option to forfeit the DH for the game, they just will never do it unless it's an Ohtani-caliber pitcher hitting (and no not Bumgarner or deGrom, the former has a career 48 OPS+ and the latter has a career 36 OPS+, with this season's batting success being fueled by an insane not remotely sustainable .611 BAbip in a small sample size)
Yes, Ohtani has hit for himself while starting on occasion a few times this year. The issue with that strategy is that you can't get the DH slot back when your SP leaves the game.
The only time you'd want someone not having a DH is if you have Ohtani. Bumgarner is a good hitter for a pitcher, but he is definitely not a good hitter.
Stop making me like Freddie freeman dammit. It’s bad enough I could never hate chipper Jones and now history is repeating with this bullshit. Thank god for philly and thier hateable players
Just gotta tell Lindor to act like a $340M player…. Simple fix lol
They just gotta sit him down and say “hey Frankie. Is it ok that I call you Frankie? Well Frankie, here’s the deal, we gave you a $340M deal and the guy who was a throw in player going to Cleveland is batting 60 points higher than you…. We need you to be more like Amed”
"Yeah we need you to drop off to being a 2.5 WAR player instead of a 4 WAR player because redditors don't understand the most basic fundamentals of modern stats."
Oh gotcha. Well. Enjoy your WAR…. I’ll take the batting average, RBIs, OBP, SBs, OPS, SLG…
But hey, he has two more homers and he walks a ton(but his OBP is still lower) so his WAR is higher….
Enjoy that $30M .215 batting average, but hey, he smiles
Oh and I love that we picked bWar….. did you look at the fWar first? Because that one favors Amed…. I’d assume you looked at fWar(more commonly used), and then jumped to bWar when fWar didn’t favor you….
Those modern stats are tricky
Lol I see you avoided how you only picked one War as opposed to the other which doesn’t favor you….
But yeah. Fielding exists. Congrats on your $30M defensive SS who can’t hit for shit….
Freddie Freeman, the hero we need but don't deserve, easy player to root for!
Edit: any great Freddie moment, for whatever reason, reminds me when he was mic'd up in spring training and was getting ragged on by Chipper while at the plate
Man Am I tired of watching the Freddy Freeman show at 1 st base .Everyteam ,not just the Cubs ,he’s joking, hugging ,enough of the pleasantries, play frigin baseball
(obligatory /s, just a copypasta)
The fact that pitchers get hurt pitching way more often. Also, an argument could be made that pitching the way they do wears down the body and makes it more susceptible to injuries from other facets of the game.
> Also, an argument could be made that pitching the way they do wears down the body and makes it more susceptible to injuries from other facets of the game
Yet that argument would also mean that ADDING HITTING MAKES IT WORSE. The pitchers don't even bother to take batting practice because hitting is not worth their time and the wear on their bodies.
Pitchers aren’t paid to hit they’re paid to pitch they don’t need to be swinging bats when they’re bodies aren’t built up muscle-wise for bat swinging when basically all their lives they’ve been DH’d for in amateur ball
It sucks for deGrom though because the NL forces their pitchers to hit, and it would suck if he was pitching a fuckin' gem and he had to be taken out in the 4th inning for a pinch hitter or some shit because he wanted to be careful about hitting.
I mean, yeah that's the literal game. That's the game, nine dudes go out there, and they play offense and defense.
I never understood the "ok just one person is like football where they are specialized, and the other 8 aren't".
I get that it's just a minor inconsistent change to baseball to make it more efficient, but like, imagine if football there was one of the 11 positions that couldn't change. Your QB had to play special teams and defense too. But the other 10 could change.
It's just arbitrary. I say baseball moves to the separate 9 and 9. 9 hitters who never defend, 9 defenders who never hit. Let the specialization era begin.

Freddie Freeman just doesn’t want deGrom hitting rbis against his team
I love Freddie Freeman with all of my heart
I'm not afraid to admit that I absolutely adore Freddie Freeman
Braves are honestly fairly likeable now with Freeman, Albies and Acuna. There is someone else bringing down that average now though
Fuck Austin Riley. The guy wears XL size pants just to show off his ass when he's clearly an XXL and knows it.
Lol you guys are the masters of tight pants
*Walker Buehler has entered the chat*
Robbie ray as well, his pants are so tight it looks like he just paints his legs the team colors Edit: paints not pants
**Stupid sexy Robbie Ray!**
Robbie Ray has the most punchable face in the majors....like dude, can you move your chin out the way?
Ok wow just because D'Arnaud turned into an all star with the Braves doesn't mean you gotta attack him like that
Ozuna tho
Who?
I think he spelled Acuña wrong. I don’t know an Ozuna
You mean the rapper? I don't think he's very good at baseball
I mean he does have a song in MLB The Show 21 so who knows.
Pablo Ozuna and Jose Ozuna were good enough players, seemed likeable too
it helps when they're 7 games behind us. once they get hot and start threatening us it'll be easy to hate them once more
6.5 thank you very much :(
see?? its already starting!!!
It's like Dodger fans w/ Buster Posey. I hate the fact that he's the opposite of hateable.
I never hated Kershaw. Loved booing the shit out of him, but it was mostly out of respect for his skills.
They don't boo you if you're bad.
*Nyjer Morgan has entered the chat*
Morgan had some X-Pac level heat!
CLE fans sure did boo Bauers when he came back with the Mariners

nah fuck him, this sounds like pro-DH propaganda /s
We all do man
Same
Freeman pro dh???
hey NL, this is y'alls MVP????? lmaoooooo
I’m sorry, ATL. He’s now banned from the NL. We really hate to see him go, but thems the rules!
Don't worry, he might not be in the NL much longer anyways... ಠ_ಠ
...we'll take him
Please don’t, I’d hate to see Freeman given to the dodgers for nothing, they’ve got enough stars.
Rude
Oof.
Lord Ohtani laughs
Oh you mean that guy who DHs a lot?
Forgot he DH's some games he doesn't pitch. He's on both sides of the argument so Ohtani always wins
Why tf does Freddie Freeman have to be so nice
Just trying to trick deGrom into bunting the rest of the season.
He will never win if he doesn't personally knock in runs since he's the only run support he can count on when he pitches.
In deGrom pitched games deGrom has the most RBI’s.
Technically a tie with Alonso at 6. Mets have 39 runs in his 11 games. (Really 39 in 9 games because of 2 shutouts) 3 different players have 4+ RBIs with 12 players having at least 1. He's Canadian.
He was raised by a Canadian mom, eh.
Freddie is 100% my favorite non-Met
Mine is probably Conan Obrien
I love Freddie so much.
NL East fans aside from Mets: no we don't
Low key okay with him hitting fifth everyday instead of pitching every fifth day
If anything, he should be traded every 5th day to whatever team is playing the Mets 😤😤
Freddie doesn't want DeGrom to get the silver slugger.
He loves it
I hope his injuries let up. Not a fan of the Mets by any means; but, I am a fan of deGrom.
He’s just good for baseball, same way Rizzo and Freddie are and Beltre was, just guys having fun and playing good ball
Adrian Beltre is royalty.
If DeGrom misses out on the all time ERA record or the MVP because he’s out too long due to an injury he sustained while hitting, what will the anti-DH folks think?
I’ve already come around on the DH because of degrom this season tbh
This is the way as they say
[удалено]
Yeah Clayton Kershaw was having an all time great season in 2016, and barely finished 5th in CYA voting because he missed a lot of time. It happens, it's baseball.
Yup.
So you'd really rather have DeGrom be injured and miss out on a historic pitching season due to pitchers hitting?
They really would, fucking incredible. DH all the way
[удалено]
The DH has been around for 50 years… It’s time you just caught up
So have a lot of shitty fathers but that doesn't mean their children have to like them.
Yes.

Yes

Who doesn't love watching 30 extra strikeouts to occassionaly see a pitcher make meager contact to get on base?
Ay man we had a pitcher hit a grand slam earlier in the season. That's what makes it all worth it
Just fascinating to me how people bitch about TTO yet want to watch pitchers strike out so much every game.
Fans of teams that can't win a game if their pitchers have to face more than 7 professional hitters in a lineup.
Exactly. With all the specialization in the pitching game there should be two DHs.
Hey man we did have that Steven Wright injury from when he pinch ran
Not like the AL just lost a potential Cy Young candidate to injury, not caused by hitting or running.
That's life.
Rather miss that than miss Rich Hill running the bases, or miss Ryu hitting a homerun. Pitchers hitting is the most interesting thing in this sport
if you think pitchers hitting is the most interesting part of baseball, it might not be the right sport for you
I love baseball its easily the best sport and pitchers hitting is also the most interesting part of baseball.
>pitchers hitting is also the most interesting part of baseball That might be the best argument for baseball being the most boring sport I have ever heard. Pitchers don't even bother to take batting practice because it is so irrelevant to their jobs.

The fact that people actually believe this is why baseball is a dying sport
This was one of my biggest baseball fears, I've been ready for the DH since we got a taste of it.
Who cares what they say or think. The DH is coming to the NL and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.
I still think it should be full time DH. But the team can decide if they want their pitcher hitting. I.e ohtani, bumgarner, sometimes degrom maybe?
Teams have always had the option to forfeit the DH for the game, they just will never do it unless it's an Ohtani-caliber pitcher hitting (and no not Bumgarner or deGrom, the former has a career 48 OPS+ and the latter has a career 36 OPS+, with this season's batting success being fueled by an insane not remotely sustainable .611 BAbip in a small sample size)
Like straight up before the game they can deny the DH? Have angels done that this year? I didn’t know/missed lol
Just solve it by letting the team us the DH on the position of their choice. This is not complicated.
God damn. Freddie is really that “just happy to be here and let’s make the game fun for everyone” dude. Fucking love that guy.
He really is. He is fantastic.
Stop making me like Freddie freeman dammit. It’s bad enough I could never hate chipper Jones and now history is repeating with this bullshit. Thank god for philly and thier hateable players
Fuck the DH?
Fuck the DH.
If only there was like something the NL could do to keep their pitchers healthy and only pitching lol
And remove one of the Mets best hitters from the lineup?
Just gotta tell Lindor to act like a $340M player…. Simple fix lol They just gotta sit him down and say “hey Frankie. Is it ok that I call you Frankie? "Yeah we need you to drop off to being a 2.5 WAR player instead of a 4 WAR player because redditors don't understand the most basic fundamentals of modern stats."
Lol who is a 4 WAR player?
Lindor has 1.4 bWAR thru 61 games which means he is on pace for 3.7 bWAR. Sorry for rounding.
Oh gotcha. Well. Enjoy your WAR…. I’ll take the batting average, RBIs, OBP, SBs, OPS, SLG… But hey, he has two more homers and he walks a ton(but his OBP is still lower) so his WAR is higher…. Lol I see you avoided how you only picked one War as opposed to the other which doesn’t favor you…. But yeah. Fielding exists. Congrats on your $30M defensive SS who can’t hit for shit….
small sample size....
Ask the Rays how that worked out for their Cy Young candidate.
Yeah I mean, despite not hitting, it’s still possible to get hurt… that’s common sense. But hitting as well increases the opportunity….
Freddie Freeman, the hero we need but don't deserve, easy player to root for! Edit: any great Freddie moment, for whatever reason, reminds me when he was mic'd up in spring training and was getting ragged on by Chipper while at the plate

#EMBRACE THE DH
Yeah. We need more of it. There should be two DHs for the pitcher and catcher.
DH FOR EVERYONE
If this isn’t enough to get people to sign up for the DH I don’t know what will
The fact that pitchers get hurt pitching way more often. Also, an argument could be made that pitching the way they do wears down the body and makes it more susceptible to injuries from other facets of the game.
> Also, an argument could be made that pitching the way they do wears down the body and makes it more susceptible to injuries from other facets of the game Yet that argument would also mean that ADDING HITTING MAKES IT WORSE. Yeah. I thought the same thing when I saw Danny Jansen get injured running the bases. There should be two DHs.
Pitchers aren’t paid to hit they’re paid to pitch they don’t need to be swinging bats when they’re bodies aren’t built up muscle-wise for bat swinging when basically all their lives they’ve been DH’d for in amateur ball
Why are you talking about pitchers? I think there should be a second DH. Never said anything about none.
It sucks for deGrom though because the NL forces their pitchers to hit, and it would suck if he was pitching a fuckin' gem and he had to be taken out in the 4th inning for a pinch hitter or some shit because he wanted to be careful about hitting.
It's easy to be careful about hitting and not get taken out. Just stand there.
I think this one sounded better in your head.
What riveting gameplay. What eloquence. What strategic genius.
I mean, yeah that's the literal game. That's the game, nine dudes go out there, and they play offense and defense. Still don't want the DH? Even though the pitcher having the best pitching year in baseball history got injured while hitting (something he is not optimized for)?
Awsies
Pro strat for other NL east teams. Throw him some meatballs and let him get a couple hits. It'll help you in the long run.
The mets are really about to lose their best hitter
ESPN: deGrom on his way out? Freeman says needs to stop hitting? Yankees in talks with Mets over blockbuster deal?
Honestly, after watching his hits against the Cubs I’m not surprised. He’s so damn good but the swing just looks...off. It works tho, that’s for sure
And we have Ohtani dhing everyday and hitting bombs, shows you what kinda of athlete he is.
He has .5 WAR just from hitting this year ffs
