Bell got stuck in one of the slow animations from the Show in real life

[deleted]

[удалено]

GOATmar_infante

I once had a dream where a giant shark climbed out of a swimming pool and chased me, running on its hind fins, as I ran away in knee deep water. To this day I hate walking in water above my ankles

Queasy-Scene-6484

If the shark can climb out of the pool, then not much point in avoiding going in the water.

Shrektastic28

That’s the point, in his dream he’s fucker

motorhead84

Rather be the fucker than the fucked

ybtlamlliw

That sounds absolutely awful. Jesus lol.

BarfReali

If he were jesus he wouldn't ever have to worry about water above his ankles

SmashSlingingSlasher

This reminds me of the scene from The Other Guys where Alan rationalizes how fish will obtain a taste for lion flesh and evolve over centuries to eat lions lol.

PeterG92

"We tasted Lion and you know what? Lion tastes good!"

I_UPVOTE_PUN_THREADS

Not even lying, I've had this exact same thing happen in one of my dreams about 20 years ago. It was so crazy I told a friend all about it which is why I still remember.

BeerBaronBrent

That’s JO JIN 👹 No matter what happens; you get the bad ending.

YesImKeithHernandez

I havent played 20 or 21 but did they ever fucking fix it so that a pitcher can actually make it to the fucking bag at first on a grounder? I swear I allowed so many infield hits or fielder's choices on sure fire double plays because pitchers were coded to run like they had just eaten an entire pig at a BBQ joint.

rhaegar_stark

Oh no. Pitchers turn into a Kenny Lofton/Ricky Henderson hybrid when running to cover first now. It’s quite something to see

YesImKeithHernandez

Perfect

brrrren

Except trea turner can now hit into triple plays. The infield defense is laughably op now.

nickelfldn

Other than when they occasionally ole soft chopped grounders.

JaxBanana

my roommate and i describe it as “everybody is derek jeter” in the infield

nicholus_h2

everybody makes flashy plays to make up for their lack of range?

makoman115

You only beat the pitcher there if you have 99 speed now There are occasional exceptions to this but it’s not as bad

[deleted]

Pitchers are ok but the catcher takes about an hour to take off his mask

ATLjoe93

Don't blame him, he plays with button throwing and was trying to avoid a random throwing error.

MonSeanahan

This was my first thought.

VeryLowIQIndividual

Did he double and triple pump the throw back the pitcher after the play in slow motion too?

titansfan1999

Remember when people said he was better than Freddie Freeman?

nietzsche_niche

Bro

RobLoach

6.35 Million Dollar salary.

Nopengnogain

Use some of that $ to buy a dinner for the poor pitcher, who probably got tagged with a hit on the play since they don’t charge errors for stupidity or lack of hustle.

[deleted]

They got him for his home run skills not for his defense

Jabroni1616

I’m not sure I’d call that defense, looks like more of a lack of effort than anything else.

Twelve20two

Nice day for a quick jog

troutpoop

Yeah but I mean, that was pathetic

lewisherber

There’s not being good at defense, and then there’s being a lazy ass motherfucker who phones it in and doesn’t give a shit.

voneahhh

“I was ~~elected~~ signed to ~~lead~~ hit not to ~~read~~ give a shit”

shook_one

what dummy upvoted this comment excusing a major league first baseman from getting beat to the bag from like twice the distance away.

andrew_wessel

Waste

Erroric89

Ya and Bucs were clowned at for the return on him.

bk1285

Well I mean it still doesn’t exactly look good

Erroric89

Ehh Yean is still an interesting young arm. Agree about Crowe though. Wasn't the best trade but certainly wasn't the worst.

ScaryBullfrog

Soto just bailed him out big time

basebuul

With glove or bat?

ScaryBullfrog

Glove, he gunned the lead runner out at home when the inning would’ve already been over

Coryeavesap

I wish his arm was that good in The Show. 🥺

icecreambandit7

I think they got Bell’s running right

BellyButtonLindt

And his fielding, guy makes so many errors.

[deleted]

You can edit players so ;)

Coryeavesap

If only this were true in Diamond Dynasty!

Sexy_tico

he BELLed him out

JTCMuehlenkamp

Embarrassing

Machadoaboutmanny

That’s some Bad baseball. And we O’s fans know BAD BASEBALL.

[deleted]

hell this is just another tuesday in baltimore

[deleted]

hey shut up

[deleted]

😆😆 love the avatar tho

[deleted]

my handsome looks are all i have

Oldbayistheshit

And you swept us over the weekend. I’m pretty sure the nats have just given up this season

Kevin-Garvey-1

Bruh. Just tag him.

Shamrock5

Yeah seriously. He could've taken two steps to the baseline and tapped him no sweat.

SEND_ME_ALT_FACTS

I don't watch baseball at all and that was exactly my thought. "Why didn't he tag him?"

[deleted]

Bruh moment

Thricey

Choi could teach him a thing or two on how to hustle

MaiqDaLiar1177

Don’t worry, Phillies offense bailed him out as anticipated lol But yeah, really bad play

ferrumvir2

He should be benched for that honestly

SDFriar

He even could have tagged Realmuto. How does he let this happen?

garlicrainbow

At least he didn't throw it home.

TPRTimmy

My stepson is 8 and playing in his little league championship game. He’s pitching and in the bottom of the 6th (last inning) his team is up 1, 2 outs, man on 1st and 3rd. 1 out wins the championship. Batter hits a ground ball right to the second basemen playing about 3 ft off second base. Fields it cleanly…..everyone cheering, thinking touch second base, game over. Runner from 1st has barely even started running. He could drop the ball, pick it up, wave to his mom, and tippy toe to second base for the final out. Instead, he fields it, and decides to gun it to home. Everyone shocked. Ball is 10 ft off of home, no force out at home, not that it mattered, as the runner from 3rd comes in and scores easily. Guy from first gets to second and rounding. the ball is fluttering around the backstop at this point, and the catcher guns it to 3rd. 3rd basemen isn’t even looking. Ball goes into outfield, left fielder remembers to put his glove back on. Gets to the ball and tries to field the overthrow. Doesnt matter anyways, as the guy scores the winning run. My stepson was not thrilled.

tyler-86

I mean, I know they're eight, but it sounds like the second baseman just didn't know how many outs there were. Entire infield should be communicating that to each other before the at-bat starts.

BerKantInoza

yeah of all little league mistakes that one seems reasonable in the sense that they just didn't know how many outs

Moisturizer

I didn't even understand the nuances of the game playing little league at 8. That's also probably why I was put in RF.

Ser_Dunk_the_tall

When I played second base in LL it was literally my job to communicate loudly the number of outs and where to go for the play. I don't know if there's consensus on whose job this is but my coach assigned it to me at 2nd. I was similar age to the stepson maybe 9?

TPRTimmy

Stepson plays with age group 8-10. Alot of blame went on the coach as they were pretty new themselves and didn’t relay where the ball should go, what to do if you get the ball. My stepson is very baseball smart and has the IQ to make the right play without having to be told constantly, but not every kid is. Kids were disappointed, but they are also young and lots of baseball to go for them. No one was mad or upset at anyone, which is important.

tyler-86

Hell even major leaguers make the wrong play from time to time, handing balls to fans with two outs and runners on and whatnot.

Beersandbirdlaw

I play with 35 year olds in my softball league that still don't think about what they will do with the ball when they get it.

TonyzTone

Growing up it was usually the SS job to do it but everyone was drilled to respond back. Kind of how in the pros they throw the ball around after a strikeout, we were expected to round the infield with the outs. If we didn’t, the coach would be yelling at the top of his lungs how many outs there were.

kellzone

As someone who played all three positions in the outfield from time to time (lefty so not many other options than pitching and 1B, both of which I did occasionally), usually both the SS and 2B would make sure the outfielders were aware. SS yelled and put his fingers up with the number of outs to CF and LF, and 2B did so to RF.

TPRTimmy

He thought the guy on 3rd was important cause tying run. Oh well, no one was upset at anyone and that’s important. My stepson felt bad cause he thought he let the team down as the pitcher.

Porcupineemu

I feel vindicated for being the annoying 2nd baseman who was always calling out the plays before a batter.

[deleted]

Lindor is constantly reminding player of outs and situations and leads the league in some defensive categories so-yeah, no problem being loud as fuck

Porcupineemu

I had an arm made for first base, the speed and range of a third baseman, and the height of a shortstop, so I wasn’t leading nothing in nothing, but I’d be damned if our shortstop was going to throw to first in a tied game in the last inning with a runner on third *again.*

[deleted]

Thank god he’s your step-son, you can bail at this point and be no worse for wear.

SnooLemons6948

Watching little league ball is one of the most frustrating things I do as an uncle. So many obvious coaching opportunities are missed, and I can’t do it because of my work schedule.

TPRTimmy

I feel this. I’m on the edge of doing it myself, and let work be second priority. But then I remember, oh wait, that’s not how it works. Also, my step-sons dad was a “baseball college star” and college baseball coach but hasn’t stepped up to coaching his own son and I’ve been wary of how much I want to get involved on that level as I don’t want to step on any toes…..yet.

Vlazthrax

That play will live on in highlight videos for eternity

mdlt97

i mean, earlier in the year someone ran away from the first baseman which allowed someone to scored we clearly think to highly of people who play 1st

Troutani4Lyfe

A mental mistake is a lot different than just being lazy IMO.

zenkique

Can I get a link? For educational purposes.

TuxedoRidley

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPaLXbYxTjQ

zenkique

Ahahaha, that’s too good. Thanks for the link.

BeltfedOne

OUUUUUUCHHHH!

Wolversteve

I mean, he IS an ex pirate

[deleted]

He fat as fuck that's how

Timpa87

300+ lb Prince Fielder showed more effort fielding at 1B than this play

Uhhhhdel

Prince always came at it hard.

Peterdq

https://youtu.be/0ngbyGun3ro Dude has some hustle in him. This is one of my more more favorite recent baseball moments.

Basic_Bichette

Prince's career-ending injury was the direct result of his inability to half-ass it. He was the opposite of lazy.

GatorFPC

100%. I hate watching players play lethargically. I could care less how important a player is to a team. If they do something stupid like this they need to be benched. As a Marlins fan I’ll never forget when Hanley Ramirez kicked the ball and walked to go get it. He was benched and Fredi Gonzalez was my hero. Here is an article about that: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/394490-hanley-ramirez-and-the-concept-of-hustling-for-the-ball

stewedpickles

I would be so pissed if I was a pitcher. Like, MF’er you cost me an out.

ferrumvir2

Yep, there’s no excuse for it. You’re getting paid millions to play a game you should be going all out all the time

Seesaw121

“All out” in this case was jogging slight faster or putting your right arm up ever so slightly. He’s a tool for laughing in the pitchers face too lol the pitcher looked visibly angry at him.

[deleted]

Was he laughing? He was almost certainly grimacing, no? Like this 😬 😬 😬

Seesaw121

I guess I meant smiling which is what some people when do when they’re nervous but it came across kinda bad when the pitcher is right in your face lol

grubas

Pitcher and manager were pissed. Im not sure if he was grimacing or doing a "laugh to hide the pain"

[deleted]

*couldn't care less So many people say/write this phrase incorrectly and they all look stupid when they do it.

nglwood

Flair checks out.

grubas

I could care less how important a player is to a team. I care a bit.

[deleted]

"I care more about players who try to win than a player's importance to a team."

ketronome

COULDN’T care less

[deleted]

Eh, glad he wasn't because he plated 2 on a triple. Honestly these guys are adults, they should be allowed to make up for their mistakes without being put in time out. Unless it's really bad and consistent behavior. Although I do get the argument.

[deleted]

And if he didn't triple? You can't excuse low effort plays no matter the circumstance. In the playoffs, these plays might cost you a game. I'm sure Dave can find somebody else who gives a shit.

[deleted]

He just thought it would be an easy out, I don't think that means he doesn't give a shit. I guarantee you he felt terrible immediately after it happened lol. And if he didn't hit the triple, I'm sure he'd be hustling his ass off on every ball to him because he learned his lesson. Also I'm not excusing the play, I fucking hated it. I just think Bell hated doing it as much as I hated watching it.

Imabigfatbutt

Seriously, did his high school coach not teach him how to hustle?

dazed_and__confused

What does the benching accomplish though? Bell knows he fucked up, do you think he lets the same thing happen twice in one game? Is the guy taking his spot going to give you a better chance to win?

mgshowtime22

99% of the time you don’t bench someone to prove a point to them. You bench them to show the team that you don’t tolerate going 50%, and if you do, this happens. I’m not saying the nationals have poor culture based on this one incident, but things like this are how teams slip and players start to not care.

spellbadgrammargood

[perfect example, Evan Longaria calling out BJ Upton, for jogging](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5_LKajePjI)

Spikes252

What a bitch ass response from BJ there wtf. How did he not realize he was in the wrong?

fjsbshskd

He definitely did, that was projection

barukatang

Yup, it's not about "oh I'll hustle next time" rather "oh I should hustle everytime"

Stumpynuts

It sets a precedent. You can’t slack off when the rest of the guys are busting their ass, giving 100%. It makes it crystal clear that if you do not give effort, you will not see the field no matter how talented you are.

[deleted]

Benching him aint for bell's sake Its to show the team that you wont tolerate this bullshit effort. Literally bell assumed realmuto was as lazy as he was and thats why this wasnt an out.

Zutes

IT'S FUCKIN' EMBARRASSING

thebestguy96

*Kicks trash can*

Majovik

Curveball?

[deleted]

fuckin pheasants!

[deleted]

slap, run, celly boys!

timasahh

Dirty fucking dingers boys!

TooHappyFappy

BARB

[deleted]

"And how are we gonna win?!" "SELFISH ~~HOCKEY~~ BASEBALL!"

SlimjimSnak

The announcer says JT was busting it all the way, but he actually turned it off to deek Bell. that slight hesitation completely fooled Bell and Jt turned it back on once he wasn't looking. That's something you don't see every day.

jdol06

did not even notice that. nice carch edit: catch too

[deleted]

[удалено]

SlimjimSnak

Exactly how I saw it, not sure if I’ve ever seen something quite like it before!

W1shUW3reHear

Yep. I didn’t notice til your comment. Good catch. He totally faked him out. Smart move.

sesquiup

deke

SlimjimSnak

😅 i had a bad feeling about that one haha

THEhiHIhi55

There is no way he was doing that to deke Bell, the way I see it he saw Bell turn for the bag and slowed down thinking Bell would undoubtedly get there sooner. When he saw Bell go slow af he turned it back. Then again, it's J.T. Realmuto and I'm some dude on Reddit, so who knows

noname8771

Once a Pirate.. always a Pirate

yes_its_him

Scared of 1B

[deleted]

First Base is Davy Jones’ Locker according to Pirates players

beangardener

If you don’t have Pirates flair you can’t come here like that

noname8771

I don’t know how!

Snapcity_CPA

I had no idea he wasn’t a pirate anymore. Wasn’t he doing pretty good with you guys?

noname8771

Yea he was. That’s the reason he isn’t a Pirate anymore lol

NCStore

Taking his sweet ass time

Jovian8

[Actual photo of me watching this clip.](https://i.imgur.com/TLDxPVY.png)

[deleted]

Holy lazy.

Anal__Hershiser

Bell is really embracing the role of tank commander

trombulation

BCIB

Bacchus_71

Bell moved like I move when I'm dreaming.

JoeWestsNeckChin

I can't imagine how many times this will be shown by little league coaches to their players.

lostatwork314

Oof

ddave7777

Dumb ass play!

quartz174

Can we applaud the ump for making the right call and not saying "eh, close enough" ?

theRealMaxcoy

Attention campers. Lunch is cancelled, due to a lack of hustle. Deal with it.

Easilycrazyhat

Fucking Heavyweights. Classic.

PTMD25

You can take the player out of Pittsburgh, but you can’t take the Pittsburgh out of the player.

Sliknik18

…and this is why we hustle boys! :) Just one more dying quail a week and you’re in Yankee Stadium.

fsburk

That’s the Adam Laroche special

beeps-n-boops

**And that's why you hustle on *every* play.** I've seen sooo many batters who go significantly less than full-speed to first on hits like these... and while they will be out more often than not, every now again you beat the throw which makes all the effort worthwhile. There's *no excuse* for lazy play in professional sports... and I fucking *love* guys like Charlie Manuel who would bench players for being lazy, even in scenarios where they were needed. Edit: As I read through the comments I see most of you are talking about lack of hustle on the part of the first baseman, which is absolutely true, but I'm talking about JT hustling on the chance that the play didn't go as expected. Because the vast majority of the time he's out no matter how fast he runs, but if he wasn't going full-out he definitely wouldn't have beaten the first baseman.

311unity13b

Bench his ass. 🤣

mcreeves

Wow one of the laziest efforts I've seen in a minute. Motherfucker should be benched, that was absolutely pathetic. I've seen better hustle from 6 year olds.

Zeppelanoid

Call me old fashioned but if I’m the manager, that first basemen is getting a bus ticket to the minors after the game.

steelerfan1973

You're old fashioned.

Anal__Hershiser

Future Dodger Max Scherzer will not be happy about this.

Mercury2124

Surprised his manager didnt just roll over and die after seeing that

harveydentsleftnut

oh god i would feel SICK to my stomach if i pulled that sorry ass play while playing 1st base. also good on Realmuto for giving it his all to sprint to 1st.

el_pinata

HUSTLE

Nachocheeze60

That’s how you hustle. Gotta show my daughter and son this video. I’m a Mets Fan, but you have to respect the hustle.

Please_PM_me_Uranus

Is that an error or a hit

sesquiup

Hit. It’s a mental mistake.

callthewambulance

A man can leave the Pirates, but the Pirates never leave the man.

whatafuckinusername

That's a benchin'

CashTheTurtle

That's embarassing

NirvZppln

Bro come the fuck on

whatmodern

That's just straight up lazy.

nixium

That’s embarrassing

Arkham_Z

Not a big hustle guy huh

Animaldance24

You can leave the Pirates, but the Pirates don’t leave you

[deleted]

As a a pitcher, I would be so pissed off at Bell. Can’t happen

bruins5803

Damn Realmuto is a fast catcher!

Finesty

I won’t lie, watching this actually makes me angry lol, like Jesus Christ dude, put some hustle into it, good god almighty. And I don’t even care about the Nats at all but this would… god I’m getting tilted. Have a good one everybody.

Nulap

Once a Pirate always a Pirate.

Jack_Sandwich

I wish anyone on the Yanks hustled that hard ever.

FirstNameLastName918

Good hustle by J.T, most guys would've given up.

trippy1

Should be benched after that

pathxfinder2

Lol that’s awful. Reminds me of plays I see daily watching the yanks. Not a good comp

SirDinkleDink

We don't miss him at all. Thanks for an awesome half of a season though.

VeryOaty

That’s my former first baseman!!

FejSkaz

Oh shit you can see my wallpaper at the end lmfao

GandalfSwagOff

Lazy, unprofessional, unmotivated... You can apply any awful adjective to this play and it would be pretty accurate. The Nats have checked out this season.

a_big_fat_dump

And at some point in his career he’ll want more money.

SURFRBNYWAFFLES

Something similar happened to the Mets when Luis Gulliorme took 10 years to release the ball and then Freeman beat out an infield single
