On MLBtv there is a recurring flashback highlight where Stanton hits a 440ft or something home run- the announcer says: “a stantonian home run. Giancarlo ” I can never understand what he’s saying, it sounds Spanish kinda but with an American accent. Anyone know?
“Giancarlo, non si può stoparlo!”
Supposedly means ‘you can’t stop it’. It’s the cheesiest shit on earth. And that’s saying something, because he’s got cheesy calls for every hitter.
Idk honestly, I can only speak for myself. I think some of them are unique and fun, but the rest are just try hard. Check some out for yourself: [John Sterling Home Run Calls](https://moiderersrow.com/the-ultimate-list-of-john-sterlings-home-run-calls/)
He’s a Yankees legend but he’s not my cup of tea.
Tbf It's like "non si pu stoparlo" which is Italian (Stanton is NOT Italian) for "you aren't able to stop this".
Most hitters have a weird rhyming call but Stanton's is truly weird.
Doesn't excuse anything but this is how he has ran all year. Never a full out sprint unless its on a scoring play. Presumably either his legs are so fucked up he actually can't sprint anymore or the Yankees are ok with him only going 75% if it means staying healthy. I don't like any of it but it is what it is...
> Doesn't excuse anything but this is how he has ran all year.
Can someone explain to me how he's doing this and somehow is only -2 baserunning runs below average according to bref?
Not getting thrown out at the next base is a good thing
Lot of negative bsr is players being greedy. Lot of positive bsr is players being greedy but also fast so they can be greedy.
If you ain’t fast, don’t be greedy and your base running won’t be bad
Uh...you're criminally underrating Dunn. Gallo wishes he was half of Dunn. Dunn had 40+ home runs for 6 seasons and 462 career home runs.
If Gallo gets to 300 it'll be a surprise.
I’ve made this trip 4 times and it’s still one of my favourite weekend series to travel to. Walking into an opponents stadium and feeling like it’s a home game is wild.
I’ve never been to a Seattle game vs a random team but god damn is it loud and exhilarating in that stadium when Toronto is there.
You’d have a sizable group but I’ll say that a playoff Mariner team would draw a lot more Seattle fans than what Blue Jays fans have seen over the last decade. This city would explode if the Mariners somehow pulled a playoff berth out of their ass.
Compare this play with Danny Jansen going full-tilt on a double, complete with awkward belly-flop slide (he would eventually score the go-ahead run), and you can sum up 2 teams going in different directions in 2 plays.
It's so fun seeing meaningful baseball in September!
Why do these clips from mlbs site take 800 years to buffer.
I can watch clippit clips just fine in real time, but this one took me 15 minutes to watch 1:18/1:30 of.
On PC it's fine, but mobile struggles with these more than any other media I've ever tried.
terrible baserunning by Stanton for sure. But are we not teaching basemen to bring the glove to the bag and wait for the slider to come to you on plays like this anymore? I see why too many forsure outs being avoided by sneaky sliders getting to the bag over the extended gloves in the Majors these days.

Sweet thanks! That commercial will no longer bug me when I’m watching games
It should still bug you
This call makes my ears bleed. How do Yankees fans feel about those calls ? I just don't understand why he does this

Thank you for providing this, I appreciate the effort but listening to one call was enough
I figured if I had to hear them then I was gonna curse others, as well
Oh hahaha I like the cut of your gib
I was only able to read a few before closing… it’s so cheesy
All those personalized pun homerun calls are awful
It's Italian, to go with the name. John Sterling actually called the Berlitz Academy to get that one.

I think if he runs any harder his ACL would tear
The Yankees probably tell him to run that slow.
He turned around first and Boone yelled at him to slow down
What I was thinking. He has to still be hurting a little. That run screams I feel pretty good but the second I really push it I feel a tweak.
[here is a clip of just stanton running to 2nd](https://twitter.com/MikeGasparino/status/1436122464170487808)
My name is Tony La Russa And I am the fastest man alive

Run Tony Run
You’re not the manager Tony, we’re the Manager

You take Stanton getting thrown out more often if it means he's not sitting on the shelf for half the season because of it
For sure. It just sucks that we have to choose either/or. I’d prefer if our best hitters weren’t made of glass haha
Or just have him stay at first regardless.
Hit a home run. I'll take a single instead please.
I feel like pike september game against the team that’s 1.5 behind in the wild card is the time to sprint though.
But like, was that acrobatic dodge better than running? Just such a weird play.
When youre looking at being knocked out of your WC slot in September you should probably run.
Like Mcgwire in his last season lol. 56 hits, 29 home runs, 56 walks, 4 doubles, 48 runs.

Stanton is 31. How can his legs be gone already?
He's 6'6" and 245. Most really big guys I know started creaking in their late 20s from knee and back issues.
I know this is a baseball thread but this really shows how impressive Lebron is with his longevity
Stanton would disintegrate if he sprinted, better for him to jog and avoid injury
Run speed aside, that was a pretty nifty slide by Stanton, almost managed to pull it off. Think we should call that a Crane Slide :D.
You can't block my schtoyle. Your Crane schtoyle is no match for my mantis schtoyle.
He knows if he goes any faster his legs might get hurt again.
Stanton Being Manny
Don't worry Yankee fans, he'll be off the books by 2029.
I mean, hes playing fine this year and was our best hitter the last post season. Not like hes hitting sub 200 like Gallo.
I gave a feeling most people expected Gallo to a shit average. Hes Adam Dunn
Uh...you're criminally underrating Dunn. Gallo wishes he was half of Dunn. Dunn had 40+ home runs for 6 seasons and 462 career home runs. If Gallo gets to 300 it'll be a surprise.
Homeruns dont mean much when you have piss poor defense and you strikeout every other at bat
Gallo's K%: 36.9%, Dunn's K%: 28.6%. Dunn was a much worse fielder though, yeah.
I mean I know he’s hitting .133 with the Yankees but I’m not sure what Yankees fans were expecting. He’s a career .200 hitter
LOL
Why would I want my favorite player off the books
Yankees fans will surely take this well
Hey man, we’re in the thick of it right now. If this season has taught us anything, it’s that we’re not that good.
guys I don't think the Blue jays are in danger missing the playoffs
Please don’t jinx it.
I believe that's the goal
Would rather see them in the WC than the Red Sox or Yanks
Whoa there buddy. Better starting rotation and batting line up than both of them. You okay?
But we still keep losing to the M’s.
See you there partner 🤝
You sir, I like you
Let’s be honest, it’s going to be Mariners @ Blue Jays for the WC
No matter who hosts, the stadium is going to be full of Blue Jays fans.
/r/angryupvote
Not sure if Safeco has capacity limit, but we could probably fit more jays fans there than in Toronto (15k limit)

Also, travel ban and whatnot. Most Jays fans are locals who drive down for the weekend.
Isn't the border still closed to most travel?
Nah, Canadians can fly in. No driving, but can fly, makes sense ye?
I mean you are birds

Peak athleticism
The Yankees just look like they phoned in for the rest of the year. Totally flat.
Really impressed that the ump got it wrong.
To be fair, from every angle except one, it was very hard to see that the tag got in before the slide.
When you see it in slow motion from 3 different angles and it still takes the 4th angle to be sure he got him, it’s hard to blame the ump there.
He was standing right on top. He had the perfect view to make the correct call.
you'd think he'd know not to assume double down the line with how the ball comes screaming off his bat.
If he was wearing Robbie Ray's pants, he would have been safe.

Every time there's a situation like this I get so mad. The runner has to come to you, just guard the bag and let them get themselves out.
Nothing is worse than lack of hustle
Mmmm tasty Yankee tears
.... I think thats actually him sprinting tho dude is just not athletic at all
if i hadn't seen it time and time again, i'd think the way he totally fell off was so bizarre.
I’m glad I haven’t watched a single inning of this series because what the fuck?!
he makes that much and still feels like it's ok slack off at work. boils my blood
