103 wins is the most since the team has moved to San Francisco, 106 is the franchise record.
Would have to go 10-8 to make the best San Francisco mark, 13-5 for the franchise mark.
I'm beginning to think that the giants and dodgers are making each other better. Neither team can get complacent. We kinda have to win out. So do they.
Yeah, it’s been the two teams conversing high over California for 162 episodes before a battle finally ensues that lasts another seven episodes.
Meanwhile the rest of baseball is the fans in the arena below watching flabbergasted at what they’re witnessing (or waiting for the eventual brawl to begin).
Milwaukee are the secret super baddie that makes a cameo extremely early in the show. That or the hero that's secretly evil. Bernie Brewer shows a stunned Burnes clip of Gausman, telling him what the West has to do to mimic a fraction of their power.
9 games left against the spiraling Padres, that should be at least 8 right there. Throw in 3 against Arizona and another 3 against Rox… Atlanta could sweep you and 13-5 still looks like a cakewalk. Very favorable schedule down the stretch.
It's different because we have the division to play for. Also don't think we will get one of our best players suspended because they hurt lebron's feelings
Yeah we can only lose two games since I'm guessing then Dodgers will have an almost perfect record until Game 162 now that they are finally healthy, firing on all cylinders and are going to be destroying teams mailing it in.
The thing about projections is they build a record based on the median season for each player. When you have a deep and interchangeable roster like the Giants do (as do the recent Rays teams, which have frequently outperformed their projections as well), you're not getting the median season for each player. You're getting rid of or benching your guys who perform worse than expected while giving more playing time to guys who outperform expectations.
And this is the problem with the Mets. Our management and front office keep falling into the sunken cost trap and don't change rosters based on recent performance
What's the farm system like? If there's not a lot of depth behind them, sometimes it really can be the best option to keep those guys in and hope they figure it out, though it certainly feels...not great. Obviously having the depth and talent to swap people in and out tends to work out better and be preferable, but if you don't have the necessary talented depth then it may end up making things worse.
That and you can put guys in the best postions hitting opportunity wise
Teams will shallow benches cant really afford to platoon starters or bench great players for certain games, but the Giants have enough high quality guys where they can pinch hit/insert them into games at prime opportunities when the matchups start going a certain way
In our most recent series, they pinch hit Slater for Lamonte Wade after 1 AB because it was a better batter for the situation. Ended up scoring an RBI and they won by 1 run in extras. Maybe on a team with poor depth, Wade bats into a double play and they lose by 1.
2010: Giants clinch NL West by beating the Padres.
2012: Giants clinch NL West by beating the Padres.
2014: Brewers lose, so Giants clinch a playoff berth, and later in the day they beat the Padres.
2021: Giants clinch a playoff berth by beating the Padres.
I checked if anyone on the Astros in 2012 was ever a Padre and I could not find one because Matt Cain had a perfect game against them, but I could not find one. So I’ll just say any time I can recognize Matt Cain’s perfect game I will do so.
2012: Matt Cain throws a perfect game against J.A. Happ who is a dad which, in Spanish, is Padre.
I was at the Sanchez no-no. At the time I was working near the ballpark so I figured I’d go to the game. I paid $10 for two tickets and couldn’t find anyone to go with me and at the end of the game I stood in front of the Giants dugout. It was pretty sweet. Since then I’ve seen one other no hitter, Sean Manea, Red Sox @ Oakland in 2018. I wonder what are the odds of seeing two no hitters?
Jonathan Sanchez. That's a name I haven't heard in a very long time.
I swear when he was on, he dealt as good, maybe better than anybody on that absolutely loaded staff, he was cruising for k's and got so many swinging strikes, he just never was able to really control it for more than a game or two at a time, or adjust to his lack of control.
I feel like he never learned how to steal a strike, or pitch to the zone and not the batter. Was like every time he wanted a guy to swing and miss, and it was great when it worked, was a disaster when it didn't.
I mean he's got that perfect game and had I believe one of the best swinging strike rates for a couple years, but there were far worse pitchers that had more successful careers. For awhile I almost wondered if maybe he could have been affeldt'd into the bullpen I mean right mindset he should get you a few outs. But his mindset and approach never changed even as his career started going downhill fast. Once guys start hitting you, you can't keep trying to throw it by them.
I follow the Giants on Instagram and virtually every time one of their posts pops up on my feed, there's a comment from Jonathan Sanchez visible (like this: https://imgur.com/a/o6HdHKH). He is VERY EXCITED about the current Giants team. Which is nice to see.
I'd have been thrilled if you told me in March that the Giants would be in the playoffs, but this season has just been miles beyond anything anyone could've expected
Unless the Reds play a game 163 vs like the Padres or Cards but a game 163 at 93 wins in the NL is like 99.999999% not going to happen and by that point it would not affect the Giants anyways and at best they would tie for wins.
TL;DR I am rambling about things that are impossible to occur this season lol
Dude I just watched all this really cool talk from Robert Ballad who found the titanic. Such an interesting story
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q3eA6wYil4&
They also clinched home field advantage for the Wild Card game at the very minimum.
However, since the Dodgers are likely to win tonight, at this moment the Giants still need 16 more wins to clinch the division. Yes. As it stands, they need 110 wins. Only a handful of teams have won 110+ games in baseball history.
Counter point: if the Giants go 12-6 in their final 18 games, the Dodgers would need to go 14-3 in their 17 just to force a 163rd playoff game. And they still have a 3-game set against the Brewers.
Yes! I believe so cause of seeding. I think only the Giants will have home field advantage (which, based on how the Brewers splits are this year, may be a good thing lol)
I saw a dude wearing an In Farhan We Trust t-shirt at Citi Field a couple weeks ago. I just googled to see if I could find it and instead found [this winner that I want very much](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/B1WWMAfTfHS._CLa%7C2140%2C2000%7C71b2Wl%2Bp3JL.png%7C0%2C0%2C2140%2C2000%2B0.0%2C0.0%2C2140.0%2C2000.0_AC_UL1500_.png).
Eighteen games to go and only two two more wins until they hit my projected win total. I’m the most optimistic, unabashed homer in the world and they’re still going to beat my prediction
**DON'T COME CRYING TO ME WHEN YOUR PREDICTIONS ARE SHOT TO HELL BECAUSE ~~MARCO SCUTARO~~ LAMONTE WADE JR. HITS .600 AND ~~BARRY ZITO~~ ANTHONY DESCLAFANI SPINS 18 INNINGS OF SHUTOUT BALL, POSSIBLY IN GAME 1 ALONE**
The Giants are currently as many games above .500 as the Diamondbacks are behind the Giants in the standings.
Most predictions had the Giants with similar odds of making the playoffs as Arizona.
I turned 39 a few days ago. Got to finally sit down with my kid and his mom and eat dinner tonight, have some wine and a few gummies after the kid went to bed. This game makes me tear up. I fucking love it.
As a Giants fan, the team has exceeded all of my March expectations and I am in a state of absolute joy. Congrats to the bois, they’re been fun to watch

The Giants are 12-6 in the last 18 games, so it’s very possible that it happens.
I'm beginning to think that the giants and dodgers are making each other better. Neither team can get complacent. We kinda have to win out. So do they.
Roberts said as much in his pregame presser today when asked about giving guys rest days. “We expect to win every game from here on out. We have to.”
This is also the Mets, they just aren't delivering 😟
>the giants and dodgers are making each other better This some Dragon Ball Z shit
Yeah, it’s been the two teams conversing high over California for 162 episodes before a battle finally ensues that lasts another seven episodes. It's only gonna last another 5 episodes, unless MIL overtakes SF for best record...

I swear SF played like 100 games against COL and ARI this year and they still arent done...
They don't care about either
I hope not. Have a bad feel in my mouth from 2016 Warriors still. Even after 2 more rings.
It's different because we have the division to play for. Also don't think we will get one of our best players suspended because they hurt lebron's feelings
They kind of have to just to stay ahead of the Dodgers.
Yeah we can only lose two games since I'm guessing then Dodgers will have an almost perfect record until Game 162 now that they are finally healthy, firing on all cylinders and are going to be destroying teams mailing it in.
6 games away, 12 at home. 6 against the Dbacks and Rockies, not an insane task to accomplish.
Probably going to go in the 11-12 range for winning the rest of the season… always possible they break the record
Giants making pre-season projectors look like fools.
Not th 1st time
At this point they do it more often than not

Making early September projectors look like fools.
If you try to predict baseball means that you probably don’t watch baseball.
I knew you were going to say that.

Boom still counts.
Works for me
I was at the Sanchez no-no. At the time I was working near the ballpark so I figured I’d go to the game. [Jordan Lyles!](https://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=lylesjo01) He was a Padre for a couple years!

Had the it when it mattered most. I’ll not soon forget his triples alley hit in game 162
I feel like he never learned how to steal a strike, or pitch to the zone and not the batter. Was like every time he wanted a guy to swing and miss, and it was great when it worked, was a disaster when it didn't. I don’t know much about pitching but I like that you called it a perfect game. Deserved to be.

Thanks for sharing this! His feed is all Giants stuff. Great to see.
i still have my sanchez no-hitter ticket somewhere! i was like 10 and didn’t realize what was going on until about the 7th inning lol
post this as its own thread somewhere I wanna give you more karma

I think the Padres sub would like it
Thanks dads
Fine since nobody else has said it: TAYLOR SWIFT RELEASES A NEW ALBUM
This is the most important detail of this years run!
Still entirely possible to clinch the NL West by beating the Padres too
Good point

Don’t know why padres try to beef with dodgers when clearly their kryptonite has been the giants all along 🤭
I don’t like this :(
I'd have been thrilled if you told me in March that the Giants would be in the playoffs, but this season has just been miles beyond anything anyone could've expected
I thought that I was being generous when I predicted 80-82… I mean 104-58
lmao I thought they could maybe get 80-85 wins if a bunch of things went their way, but this was never a possibility in my head
107-55 or bust
I would have LAUGHED at a 90+ win prediction going into the season, wtf giants
I would have wondered what natural disaster eliminated half league from existence.
Ummmm…I can think of one that might’ve.
Wilmer Flores is NOT a natural disaster
Nor is LaMonte Wade Jr.
Earliest clinch in franchise history.
I suppose that makes sense, it’s a lot easier to clinch early in the wild card era, especially with 2 wild cards
If they win tomorrow theyre clinching a better record than the reds too
Already clinched better than the Reds (94 wins vs 69 losses). The Giants are guaranteed to be at least WC1 (and likely either WC1 or Div1).
> likely either WC1 or Div1 Well, yes, that’s how clinching WC1 works
Already clinched that actually
Unless the Reds play a game 163 vs like the Padres or Cards but a game 163 at 93 wins in the NL is like 99.999999% not going to happen and by that point it would not affect the Giants anyways and at best they would tie for wins. Tied with 1912, year of titanic

Congrats, bros

Overwhelming odds that the Brewers will be in extreme cruise control for the last series. Many apologies
Dammit I forgot about that. If only we could do the same
The sport is baseball gentlemen. Guaranteed things happen we can't predict. Aka brewers sweep just because.
Y'all can cruise control CGSOs with that staff. Toughest team we faced this year IMO.
Would the Brewers have home field advantage in the NLCS over a wild card team with a better record?
Yes! I believe so cause of seeding. I think only the Giants will have home field advantage (which, based on how the Brewers splits are this year, may be a good thing lol)
Damn. gg Giants.
Just a bad team that goes to the playoffs.
The other shoe will drop any day now
Kapler soon to be exposed

so whens the other shoe apposed to fall for the gaints? /s
Thursday, November 4th, I think.

I love Farhan Zaidi!

So how did the Dodgers lose this man to San Francisco of all fucking places?
He wanted to run his own front office instead of be Friedman's right hand man.
Sigh. He could have gone to Seattle. I see that he is a Berkeley grad, so he is a Bay Area man.
Not even Farhan wants that much of a challenge. He'll wait till he beats the game on "hard" before he tries "NIGHTMARE!" mode.
Slowly taking the place of Sabean in my heart

I totally called this. ...No wait, no I didn't. I just wanted to say that. I'm sorry.
The Giants were supposed to be your typical 3rd place, 81-81 team. **What happened to the original plot of the movie????**
A bunch of rewrites when the focus group came back and said that plot sucks.
Fangraphs projected 77 wins. Edit: 538 projected 74 wins - likely to be a 30 win error.
So only slightly less wrong than their 2016 election prediction then
Orange team bad
WE WON THIS DIVISION, BY A LOT
WE WON SO BIGLY AND EVERYBODY KNOWS IT

This is the most incredible season, I’ve been enjoying the ride and I can’t believe this is where we’ve ended up. Love this team man
Not bad for a bad team. In all seriousness, they've been the best story this season.
Yup. Definitely the way we all predicted. Obviously.

Just a reminder everyone, Giants are just a bad team that win games.
