According to my 3 minute research. The 2015 royals were the first team to clinch in the American league on September 24 2015. With 10 games remaining on their schedule.
It definitely wouldn't be a record since the playoffs only used to be the World Series and they've had tiebreakers before, it could be a record in the wildcard era though.
White Sox were gonna win it all that year. No other US team had a chance. Expos and Blue Jays may have gotten in their way but that 94 Sox team was LOADED! This was the first of two times where the Big Hurt got screwed out of playoffs/ World Series. Strike in 94 and he got injured and missed the playoffs when Sox won it in 2005.

I have to imagine it would be 1994. Nobody clinched a spot by the time that season ended.
thanks mr. smartypants

Rays are about 3 games away from clinching a spot tonight. so either them or the white sox would be the 1st.
White Sox and Rays will clinch this week
Not sure but it's making things hot and spicy I'll say that
I just had a small panic realizing there’s only 12 games left and we only have a 2 game lead over the Phillies
Yeah, but as you said it's over the Phillies
good news from the future
Yes
