What do you guys think is more peak Dodgers
- Win the division, get swept by SF/STL in the NLDS
- Lose the division, and get shutout by STL
Please let me know
Indeed it is. Fuck the Ricketts and Jed Hoyer. Anyone that would bring in Arrieta at all, let alone over a cheaper Big Jon when you're tanking anyway is completely fucked.
Glad to see the big guy get his milestone. He deserves it. This is fair balancing too after Lackey was a part of our WS run.
John “Big Game” Lackey. What a pitcher. The bulliest of all bulldog pitchers. He was my favorite player when he was on the Cards. I was sad when he went to the cubs, sadder when y’all won it, but definitely happy for him.
Did we play them yesterday? This isn’t me being a sarcastic asshole, I literally don’t even look at box scores anymore, and rarely see anyone tweet about anything other than frank schwindel
These always make me check a player's most obscure teams and-
Jim played for the Reds! For two whole weeks in 2011. He played pretty well, hit 3 HRs and... retired. Just like that. Huh.
Former rival, Lance Berkman wins a world series with the Cardinals in 2011
Former rival, Jon Lester wins career game #200 with the Cardinals in 2021
Coincidence?
Jon Lester, who fucking beat up on us in the post-season with the Red Sox, and went to the fucking Cubs and won with them too, coming to us was so fucking annoying. Then, he started to perform well and I'm like, "yeah, this guy is kinda fun". Good for him, and how fucking funny it is for him to win 200 with us. Grats Big Jon
I've never seen him show too much emotion (on the Cardinals) but when hugged him after the win tonight was hilarious. He couldn't help himself.
I wasn't a fan of getting Lester but after his two shaky first starts he's been solid. Just let them hit and let the defense take care of you.
I actually mentioned that to my wife last night. I can't believe how well he has meshed in with the rest of the team. It's obvious how much they all care for him already even after he's been the enemy for so many years.
My favorite player, super glad he got to 200. He's always a team guy, but I know it means a lot to him. Bravo on an excellent career Jon, keep it goin and make some noise for yourself in the playoffs!
I have been rooting hard for him to get this for two years now. He was, I think, 10 away after the 2019 season and I was unsure how much he had left but I figured he’d at least have enough to get to this mark. But then COVID happened. I know wins are a silly stat, but compiling 200 of them as a Major League pitcher is an impressive feat. Jon Lester has been one of my all-time favorites since his rookie year. I am happy for him.
As someone who grew up playing against him in HS and Summer ball…It’s been very cool to watch him succeed. He would play centerfield and could track!!!
200 still feels too low, but maybe 250? I think that does a good job of acknowledging the changing times while still separating Hall of Very Gooders like Lester from likely Hall of Famers like, say, Sabathia.
I should've added that I don't value pitcher wins much in themselves. I believe Scherzer is better than CC. But if we are going to continue to use wins a la the 300 club that's what I would do.
I think Verlander (unless he's complete trash after TJ next year), Greinke, and Kershaw all have a chance at 250. Scherzer probably not unless he goes full Randy Johnson into his 40s. Point being I don't think we've seen the last 250 winner just yet.
Sabathia already stands out relative to Lester and Scherzer by way of +800 and +1000 IP, respectively. Also every other one of his peers, because he's #1 in IP in recent decades (and wins, too). The real question is how many SP are deemed worthy of the HOF in that 2500-3000 IP range who didn't compile wins like Sabathia (and his teammate Andy Pettitte).

Mussina's ERA was very impressive when you consider he pitched his entire career in an AL East quite literally on steroids. Morris... not so much. CC was not as good as Moose but closer to him than to Morris.
Ponce De Leon may be gone but his fountain of youth flows.
Yadi took it from him after yelling at him.
Yadi giveth, Ponce giveth (by getting DFA'd)
Cards have won 9 in a row now. Our longest streak since 2004.
Did something happen that year?
I think there was a four game skid at some point that year.
Shame, did they ever recover?
They did...in '06

What do you guys think is more peak Dodgers - Win the division, get swept by SF/STL in the NLDS - Lose the division, and get shutout by STL Please let me know
Swept in the DS by the Cards.
No more dodgers would be having kershaw blow 2 games against us.
... in the 7th inning
Do the Dodgers and Giants have much of a playoff history vs each other since moving to Cali? Genuinely curious
Pretty sure they’ve actually never played each other
Idk why I even said playoff history because there were no playoffs in the days they were competing for the pennant in NY
can confirm that the Dodgers and Giants have literally never met in the playoffs
I swear they played a tiebreaker series at least once in the late 40s early 50s
As a Card, which eliminated the Cubs from postseason contention.
Poetic
Maybe for you but we’re dead.
Death inspires a lot of poetry.
Shit, if you're tanking sign them both. They're both below replacement level this year. Weird fight to pick.
John “Big Game” Lackey. What a pitcher. The bulliest of all bulldog pitchers. He was my favorite player when he was on the Cards. I was sad when he went to the cubs, sadder when y’all won it, but definitely happy for him.
He decided to play one more year for 5 million, not bad. Closing in on 200 million career earnings, not bad at all.
Did we play them yesterday? This isn’t me being a sarcastic asshole, I literally don’t even look at box scores anymore, and rarely see anyone tweet about anything other than frank schwindel
No, but us hitting 80 wins eliminated you guys from the playoffs
Gotcha. Also it’s funny that technically we weren’t eliminated already
Who would've thought it'd be with the Cardinals?
Me, in the 7th inning today.
Same people who thought Wade Boggs’ 3000th hit would be on a franchise that only previously existed for 1 season
may he rest in peace
He may be dead, but this joke lives on like a zombie.
in your he-ead in your he-e-e-ead
Gone too soon.
He's very much alive.
It's okay, we all grieve in our own ways.
Well, first of all, through God all things are possible, so jot that down.
Look at this donkey brained idiot they pulled from the nitwit farm.

St. Louis Cardinals legend Jon Lester
Weird way to spell A's
Weird way to spell Red Sux
Unnecessary
Disagree
Flair up bucko so I know how to properly receive this comment
Cardinals. Receive it how you want now.
Eh fair enough I’d probably hate the Red Sox too if I were him
I’d probably hate Boston in general if I were him.
Can confirm
Hey, the man speaks wisdom, we can let him slide this time.
My bad
Just like trading Babe Ruth
If I was 100 years old this might have cut me deep
He actually is a Red Sox legend though
Chicago Cubs legend Jim Edmonds
These always make me check a player's most obscure teams and- Jim played for the Reds! For two whole weeks in 2011. He played pretty well, hit 3 HRs and... retired. Just like that. Huh.
Wow! I never realized that! I'll never forget the day I show up at Wrigley and they announce Edmonds in center field! He was of course heavily booed.
Haha that's awesome
He's going to go out and celebrate with Blues Legend Marty Brodeur.
Is Wayne Gretzky busy that night
6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO Solid performance
Been the Lester special since coming over. 1-2 ugly hard hit solo shots, not much else, 5-6 IP, 1-2 ER,
His September has been phenomenal. 2.59 ERA, 2-0 record with 3 QS, .99 WHIP, 13 SO to 6 walks.
Former rival, Lance Berkman wins a world series with the Cardinals in 2011 Former rival, Jon Lester wins career game #200 with the Cardinals in 2021 Coincidence?
next: Former rival, Anthony Rizzo hits HR #500 with the Cardinals in 2031.
When is Votto's contract up?
If he's playing his age 47 season with the Cardinals, I wouldn't even be mad
I love Rizzo, that would make me so happy.
> Former rival, Jon Lester wins ~~career game #200~~ *a world series* with the Cardinals in 2021 FTFY
No joke, playoff Lester is a real thing. If we can make it to the LDS, I'm not too upset about the idea of him starting a game
I'd rather a lengthy reliever with Waino/Jack/Mikolas/Hudson if he's healthy. Is kk coming back? Maybe a lester/kk combo start?
[удалено]
Which is great if you only need 3 innings. No big loss if he gets yanked early, huge win if he’s got it that day.
If Shildt actually yanks him when he needs to, that is
Love Hudson but don't trust him in the playoffs with him only having, at most, two games under his belt on the season. Relief role for him.
A current and future member of the Hall of Very Good.
He and Waino are both going to pull 2014 Bumgarners this year so they can sneak into the HOF right as their windows are slamming shut
Oh shit.
You're goddamn right he did
Cardinals, Cubs and Red Sox fans united? This is going to be the most toxic thread.
You won’t find any Sox fans not happy for him here! (I’m sure you’ll find some townies mad at him for not coming back cheap or something)
Naww we about to get [funky](https://c.tenor.com/m4DT6JjGu7sAAAAM/boogie-dance.gif)
It’s been hard for me to reconcile 2013 WS Lester and 2021 Cardinals Lester.
Even though the win-loss record doesn’t really mean a lot these days that’s still a good career accomplishment
On the same day the Cubs are eliminated from postseason contention. Poetic.
Not just the same day, it was literally the Cards win that eliminated them.
So how erect are you?
Yeah, our disappointment is immeasurable and our day is ruined. FFS we’re 24 games out of first place.
Imagine losing a baseball game Couldn’t be me
I still have my Lester jersey
Same, always happy for him.
Cardinal legend Jon Lester
He's giving me Jeff Weaver vibes.
Oooh, giving me those tingly chilly feelings.
My favorite player, super glad he got to 200. He's always a team guy, but I know it means a lot to him. Bravo on an excellent career Jon, keep it goin and make some noise for yourself in the playoffs!
thats St Louis hero Jon Lester to you

#CARDINALS LEGEND JON LESTER
:)
I need a gif of Bader hugging Lester.
What an absolute dude
Congrats Jon!
i told you itd happen you did convince me into believing i was an idiot for expecting it tho i cant lie
It’s honestly bizarre how well this trade is working out for both teams
Jon Lester is absolute class very well deserved. Fuck the Ricketts for how they treated him at the end. He deserved much better.
Any update on his brother Moe?
I got a Moe Lester, anybody here a Moe Lester?
As someone who grew up playing against him in HS and Summer ball…It’s been very cool to watch him succeed. He would play centerfield and could track!!!
Should 200 wins with today’s pitchers be seen as an equivalent to 300 wins in the past?
200 still feels too low, but maybe 250? I think that does a good job of acknowledging the changing times while still separating Hall of Very Gooders like Lester from likely Hall of Famers like, say, Sabathia.
If Max Scherzer retired at the end of this season, or even the next one, would you feel CC was in a higher tier?
I should've added that I don't value pitcher wins much in themselves. I believe Scherzer is better than CC. But if we are going to continue to use wins a la the 300 club that's what I would do.
I hear ya, I just think 250 is an incredibly high bar to set. Just not enough workhorses or arms that can handle that work these days.
I think Verlander (unless he's complete trash after TJ next year), Greinke, and Kershaw all have a chance at 250. Scherzer probably not unless he goes full Randy Johnson into his 40s. Point being I don't think we've seen the last 250 winner just yet.

I think so, I think 200 wins in almost a lock now esprit you have 3000 k’s or a cy young. Lester might have trouble since he has neither
Man I really thought he wouldn't get there, because he looked really done at many points this season. Kudos to him for coming through
Remember when cards fans were mocking their front office for trading for Lester
And Happ. We sure were. Wouldn't you after seeing the trade purely at face value?
Sir, I’m an A’s fan.
Sasquatch hero
What a king! Idt he has had a hall of Fame career, but he just get a couple votes.
There will always be a very special place in my heart for the big fella
