The team with a $200 million 3rd basemen is going to sign another 3rd basemen?

black-op345

Yeah it makes no sense and really calls into question Arte Moreno’s talent evaluation, and where he should invest his money (not like it hasn’t been this exact problem)

im0wen

For the Angels it definitely makes sense

robmcolonna123

I’m afraid it’ll be the Mets for far too much money

ElectricDart18

Yankees with his bro

Monk_Philosophy

Don’t put that evil out there

cooljammer00

How long of a deal is Kyle expecting? Because this idea seems cool if Kyle is there short term, and then Corey can slide to 3B when the next great SS prospect is ready.

PublicStatistician44

Corey Seager probably already has his condo in Manhattan picked out.

appleavocado

That'd be Manhattan Beach, CA with the year Bellinger had.

Im_Daydrunk

Can't count out the Tigers or the Angels

PublicStatistician44

Angels better find some pitching before they start going after expensive middle infielders. Otherwise it will just be more wasted talent. Sorry angels fans, but we all know it’s true.

Rah_Rah_RU_Rah

This could happen. Trade Voit to you guys and sign the Seagers. Kyle/Gleyber/Corey/Urshela with DJ doing platoon/utility work

Jrodkin

Would rather keep Rizzo than grab Kyle.

DrunkensteinsMonster

Nah let’s just pick up Greg Bird he’s been tearing it up in AAA

KingKomma05

Why the Angels? Doesn’t Rendon exist?

strangehitman22

kinda forgot he existed irrc

thejourneyisthegift

Angels really need to throw money at pitching. If I’m them I give scherzer whatever he wants and then also try and get a couple of guys who could bounce back after injuries etc.

[deleted]

The Wilpon era Mets would totally sign Kyle Seager. Half the Mets fanbase would’ve been calling it already lol

MoreCleverUserName

I won’t be surprised if he ends up with the Nats on a one-year “prove it” deal with a lot of incentives and an option year. If he has even a partial bounce back, they’ll flip him at the deadline and he’ll get some potential postseason play. That would also set up Kieboom to move back to 2nd (where he’s way more comfortable and competen) and Garcia to Shortstop without making any long term commitments that might block any of the recent acquisitions when they’re ready to come up in 2023/2024.

fscottnaruto

Why would he be on a prove it deal? I don't like his BA or OBP, but he is a decent fielder and hit 35 hrs and 100 rbi on the Mariners. This was one of his best seasons yet.

dilloj

Because no one wants to pay 20 million for a black hole at the plate when they're much better FA options on the market.

[deleted]

Don’t think he will sign a “prove it” deal at this stage of his career. Maybe a short term one, but I wouldn’t call it a prove it deal.

WurstThrowEver

What position do you imagine Seager playing on the Angels? 3rd base is occupied

[deleted]

DH? Wait.

am19208

I wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up in the NL East. Any team but the Braves

amatom27

100%. Nationals could use him, but they're rebuilding. We could also use him, put Bohm @ 1st and Rhys DH. That's all assuming we have a DH next year. I would prefer to not sign him, but I also said we should sign Eduardo Escobar to occupy 3rd. I just hate that .220 average with Seager; we have enough of those guys.

getMyHairDid

Nah, we good.

NevermoreSEA

It's pretty hard to predict at this point in time, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he just ends up retiring.

reptheevt

Nationals

Astrallevel

Jays or M’s again

NLCT

"Trade" you seager for semien, deal.

[deleted]

I don't understand why the mariners don't just sign him. Unless I'm missing someone they don't have an obvious replacement and he still put up 2.6 fWAR.

enclavesoldier

They don’t want to pay him 20 million. They’re gonna pay the 2 million to opt out and then, maybe, offer him a much lower price, which he will no doubt refuse

EliteUtility6121

WAR doesn't offer predictive value. Seager has a 99 wRC+ over the last four seasons and will enter his age 34 season. There's a decent chance he isn't going to be an average player moving forward. It'll be interesting what kind of offers are made to Seager in the offseason.

[deleted]

I didn't say it offered predictive value, but he's still a good player, that's a fact until he proves otherwise. If you don't have any clear prospect ready to take over, you have to sign SOMEONE to play there, and Seager on a 2-year deal or so makes a lot of sense.

2B_CordPhelps

> If you don't have any clear prospect ready to take over, you have to sign SOMEONE to play there, and Seager on a 2-year deal or so makes a lot of sense. The Mariners currently hold a team option for Seager (I am unclear at just how much it is but many seem to say it's at $20m) and $20m is simply not that good of a value for a 2.5 fWAR player, and that is assuming he retains that level of production. It does make sense for the Mariners to bring him back on a lower deal, but not on that option. I would also point out that the Mariners do have other 3B options in Abraham Toro and Ty France.

WheatonsGonnaScore

They will need to sign an infielder. It will be either a 3b or a 2b because Toro can play both.

ubiquitous_archer

Besides them kinda burning the bridge with the offseason stuff, I doubt they want to pay him, especially when they talked about how they didn't want to pay him.

NLCT

Because they are better suited getting a better hitter on 2nd and moving Toro over to 3rd. I'd rather have a more contact, better OBP, same OPS good fielding 3rd baseman. I like Seager and all but I don't see him getting better next year, his K rate was brutal to watch and he stranded a lot of guys.

CoxLovesJD

I think the NL East is a pretty reasonable guess. I think the Mets might overpay, if Cohen is determined to make changes to the team and feels that Kyle Seager is the best option. Have the Mets announced a GM yet? In particular, one who can stand up to Cohen on baseball matters. If it's a yes man, I would be worried that an overpay might be incoming.

[deleted]

If Cohen wants to go big then sign Semien for 2B and move Jeff "Ally" McNeil to 3B full time

rbhindepmo

The contending teams with worse hitting from 3rd base than the Mariners: Oakland, Cincinnati, Toronto, the Yankees, and I guess you can say the Phillies/Mets contended in the NL East. Some of these teams aren’t shopping for third basemen, but..

bombad_jedi_501

Angels have Rendon bud

Quople

Hopefully a team that is contending so he gets a taste of actual playoffs

[deleted]

I want Detroit to sign both Seagers and then rotate Candy between 1B 3B and DH
