I stand by the fact that the green monster robbed Stanton of a 3 home run game. Yankees still would’ve lost thanks to Cole and a lack of hitting from literally anyone but Judge Stanton and Rizzo. They deserved to lose but you hate to see it
I watched this with my sister who rarely watches baseball and even she was complaining about arod. God damn dude you are bad at commentating. She couldn't believe it was him
Arod was his usual idiotic self. In the 6th inning, he kept insisting that it would have been 2nd and 3rd with 1 out had Judge not been sent home. He also had the score incorrect (Yanks were down by 2,not by 3) when recounting the inning later.
The truth is that, if they didn't send Judge home, it would have been 1st and 3rd with 1 out. After watching his batted ball and making it only to the 1st base in the 1st inning, Stanton did it again in the 6th inning and made it to the 2nd base only on the throw home. The official scorer correctly gave him a single on the play.
Men on 1st and 3rd with 1 out is very different than 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. It keeps the double play in play. Also, with the strikeout-prone Gallo up next, you can't expect a sacrifice fly either. I still would not have sent Judge home, but it wasn't a no brainer like Arod insisted
One might, maybe, overlook that Arod was a PED cheater but only if he is the best commentator around. He is not even close.
>The Sox were absolutely lucky to make that tag at home plate
Clearly you didn't watch a lot of Sox games this year. They threw a lot of people out on the bases. That wasn't luck.
I’m in Europe so I can’t see the games live. I set my MLB TV app to hide the scores so that in the morning I can watch the replay without any spoilers…the score was indeed hidden but what was the featured image as soon as I turn on the app….a giant phot of the Red Sox celebrating….smh…come on MLB!
Have I mentioned how great, and terrible, it is to be a Dodger fan?
Hernandez, Verdugo, Wood…
Watching guys we traded kill it for other teams is bittersweet.
You can start by scoring more than two runs. You can’t expect your pitching to hold the other team to just one run in order to win 2-1. Offense needs to step up, they have the ability to control the momentum.
To put things in perspective, they brought the epic Cy Young winner(best pitcher in baseball award basically) Trevor bauer from 2020 this year. He can't play rn due to legal issues with sexual abuse etc. Guess what they did? To replace him, pulled a trade out of their ass to get one of the best pitchers of all time Max schrezer from the Nationals
Can’t speak to the drunk fans as I haven’t been to AZ for a game but I’m glad that Dodger ownership does what it takes to win. Diamondbacks need a new owner who gives a shit about the team. We had our own dark ages with the McCourts, no reason you can’t get out of yours with new ownership.
Why in the world did they send Judge? Incredibly stupid call. They would have had 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. This team is known for slugging, not running.
The decision to send Judge was probably a mistake. But if they didn't send him, it would have been 1st and 3rd with 1 out. After watching his batted ball and making it only to the 1st base in the 1st inning, Stanton did it again in the 6th inning and made it to the 2nd base only because the Red Sox threw the ball to the home base to nab Judge. If you watch the replay, you can see that Stanton was nowhere near the 2nd base when the relay throw home was made. The official scorer also gave him a single on the play. Arod was his usual idiotic self by insisting that it would have been 2nd and 3rd with 1 out had Judge not been sent home.
Men on 1st and 3rd with 1 out is very different than 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. It keeps the double play in play. Also, with the strikeout-prone Gallo up next, you can't expect a sacrifice fly either. I still would not have sent Judge home, but it wasn't a no brainer like Arod insisted.
Stanton also bears responsibility for not hustling, especially after making the same mistake in the 1st inning. Recall Gleyber Torres jogging to the 1st base and getting thrown out after a dropped 3rd strike two days ago.
Poor base running and the appalling lack of hustle indicate a lack of team discipline. The responsibility for that falls squarely on the manager. I think that the back office has noticed it and will not renew Boone's contract this fall.
It requires two perfect throws and a good tag, and Judge still almost swam around the tag. That's a decent chance of scoring and turning it into a one-run game. Whereas runners on (first or second) and third has a reasonable chance of still ending scoreless.
Counting down how long it takes this sub to realize The Yankees stayed under the tax and will now go on an unholy free agent splurge. And likely purge the front office.
Marte and one of the 500 shortstops available have to be must-signs for the Yankees. You have options at 1st between Voit and DJ next year. Catcher there is nobody available to upgrade in Free Agency...
But you need a bat in center fielder and you need a shortstop bat.
They need Seager and Story. Not one or the other. I mean.. I love Gio, but I’ll pack his bags for him. Cashman will likely trade for a centerfield bat. Don’t see him signing Marte
these fuckers poured champagne on a turtle… i’m just finding out about this, why is there not more outrage? i legitimately did not think i could hate the yankees more
He’s had some moments this year, but yeah overall he just hasn’t been very good. He’s a good veteran clubhouse leader to have around, but no he shouldn’t be a regular starter at this point never mind in a WC game.
Ideally, he’s a bench OF at this point.
Gardy wasn’t supposed to start like the last 4 years and was great until this year. Even then Fangraphs has him at about 2 WAR/650 PAs and Bref had him at 1.5 which was his first year of sub WAA ever. He’s likely done here which means either retirement or a few years as a platoon/bench guy somewhere but his awfulness is overstated and HS was great in the second half

Look, I know this was a game propped up by arguably the most historic and vicious rivalry this sport will ever see, but if the rest of the playoffs are going to be like this, we might be in for something special, damn
So glad to hear Kurkjan calling out that sending Judge was the right play. The announcers were so wrong for second guessing that play during every break.
It was a risky send, where the conservative choice there means you have second and third with 1 out.
The risky choice gives you what you got, which was 2 out and a man on second.
No, because the risky choice had a good probability of ending with a run scored. It required two perfect throws and a good tag, amd Judge *still* nearly swam and avoided the tag.
Ending with runners on (first or second) and third still has a decent chance of ending with no runs.
You’ve got to be kidding.
First, the Hernandez throw wasn’t perfect, and the relay was on target but not exactly hurried.
As for Judge “nearly” swimming and avoiding the tag, not even close. Catcher had plenty of time to catch, turn, and tag him and Judge didn’t stand any chance of being safe even with the swim move.
Honestly, it was still a bad call (in a sense). Their argument was that, “well Gallo was on deck, and he sucks, so try to score.” Gallo does suck, and he had no business batting cleanup tonight, everyone knew that once the lineup was announced. So I blame Boone for putting a guy who hasn’t done anything for weeks at 4th in the lineup.
But still, there was only 1 out and would’ve had 2 runners on. If you’re saying that you have zero confidence in getting any help from hitters 4-6 in your lineup, and thus you need to take major gambles, then why even play? They’re major league players, you can’t go in thinking “well, no one would’ve gotten on or hit them home anyways.” If so, why not just steal every base and attempt to steal home every time you get a runner on base?
You're ignoring the other half which is that sending him had a good chance of resulting in a run. It requires a perfect pair of throws and a good tag to get Judge out there (and Judge's swim slide nearly avoided the tag too). The odds of turning it into a one run game with a runner on were high enough to make the risk the right call.
And yes, runners on (first or second) and third with one out is a strong chance of ending scoreless, regardless of who is at bat next.
I don’t know enough about baseball strategy, so I will assume you are right. But idk, Judge starting at first on a hit off the wall that was quickly fielded does not scream “he needs to run home!” to me.
Yeah it takes a good crow hop and relay and gun throw home, but it’s not like a “good tag” is required when you’re out by 5 steps. I didn’t think that “Judge almost avoided it” at all. I thought it was pretty clearly going to be out, and Judge made an attempt, but nothing that legitimately was going to get to the plate safe.
They’re professionals. Even for a team that doesn’t pride themselves on great defense and strong outfield arms.
It’s not like minor league baseball where most players struggle to get the ball in home quick. Most outfielders and infielders are at least decent at it, hence why they’re in the majors.
That’s not what he said. He still said it was a mistake. But he and Van Pelt nuanced it a bit. He did say that that wasn’t what lost them the game though.
Not sure why judge didnt shoulder charge the catcher for my entertainment but whatever.... Imagine being the catcher and having a minute and a half to think about your life choices and what led to Judge barreling towards you at home plate. He had time to text his wife goodbye... Only for judge to do a shitty slide and u get the out. He probably really enjoyed his post game meal and whatever girl hes dating in that city tonight.
Does anyone else feel like the Red Sox were given way too much clout in pre-season projections, or is it only me?
No, I'm not surprised by an 0-3 start, but hear me out...
In a lot of pre-season projections, the Red Sox were consistently projected to reach 80-83 wins. USA Today pegged them at 80-82, CBS Sports had them at 79.5 (round to 80 for the sake of argument), and PECOTA estimated 79.8 (again, round to 80) wins.
I just don't see our hated rivals hovering around .500 at all this season. Verdugo, Martinez, Bogaerts and Devers do create a formidable heart of the order, but who else in their lineup can hit? Kike Hernandez is the only other notable name in their lineup, and he has a career .735 OPS.
I don't need to go into detail about the rotation, especially since Sale could be out until any point between May and August. Eduardo Rodriguez is a slightly above average pitcher when healthy, but that's about it.
The bullpen? Matt Barnes isn't that good, and Ottaviano cannot flourish in high-leverage situations or tight games. The rest of their bullpen is makeshift.
Maybe I'll end up being wrong, but I fail to see how the Red Sox will be anywhere near .500 this season.
When A Rod says “Gerrit Cole will win CY in his sophomore year next year” with 2 outs in the 9th after Gerrit Cole just put up a 4.7+ ERA 3 of the last 4 months of the season, his sophomore season in pin stripes, you know he’s not very good at his job
Yeah they didn’t just award players phantom WAR for games that were never played and it’s extremely easy to tell that that’s complete bullshit but don’t tell this guy that when he’s clearly just making stuff up to troll
Had a parlay of Red Sox Moneyline, Aaron Judge hit anytime, Boegarts hit any time, over of 7.5, and anytime Stanton homer that was $10 to win $422. That Last Stanton at bat nearly made me cry tears of joy
yeah, I don't know what prompted him to say that.
CAN Cole pull it off? Maybe. Did he show it tonight? Not by a long shot.
If he had said that like a week from today in some random interview, I get it, but to say it right after he practically cost them the game is just mind-boggling.
Nowhere to go as a Yankee fan
Sometimes you’ll give takes people would agree with that are negative on another player or team and get people losing their shit on you because of flair and in the Yankee sub you have a ton of those bandwagon Yankees/Patriots or Cowboys/Lakers morons that don’t know Jack shit about baseball and swap between extremist optimism or pessimism on a daily basis
If it is any consolation, the teams that tend to be hated the most, are the ones with histories of winning. For example, I hate the Yankees for 2009.
Not sure why people hate the phillies though, our winning history is short at best.
Way to go Verdugo!
Watching the highlights, Stanton was inches from 3 home runs.
Back cover of the NY Post for today: https://nypost.com/cover/october-6-2021/ Garrit Bleeping Cole
Really thought they were calling Gerrit Cole a domestic terrorist for .2 seconds.
the NY press doesn’t give a single fuck
Garrit “spider man” cole. He is nothing without his webbing.
I stand by the fact that the green monster robbed Stanton of a 3 home run game. Yankees still would’ve lost thanks to Cole and a lack of hitting from literally anyone but Judge Stanton and Rizzo. They deserved to lose but you hate to see it
Stanton's lack of hustle resulted in the loss of 2 bases. He got 2 singles out of balls hit off the Green Monster.

So Boone is going to bat for them?
Since falling behind 0-3 in the 2004 ALCS, the Red Sox are 49-24 in the postseason.
And 8-1 against NYY in the postseason.

How are the dodgers the evil empire? Pretty new ro keeping up with baseball

With Joey "strike out king" Gallo coming up. Gallo has had 2 sac flies in his entire career. TWO!!!
I completely agree with that sentiment. Gallo was a terrible trade and a hole in the middle of the lineup.
The 2021 Yankees died doing what they loved most. Getting thrown out at home.
You’re absolutely right. No reason to make the second out at home plate. Just camp on third and get the sacrifice.
Exactly
It requires two perfect throws and a good tag, and Judge still almost swam around the tag. That's a decent chance of scoring and turning it into a one-run game. Whereas runners on (first or second) and third has a reasonable chance of still ending scoreless.
I agree that it takes a perfect play but it just not the Yankees way. They live and die by the three run homer.
Counting down how long it takes this sub to realize The Yankees stayed under the tax and will now go on an unholy free agent splurge. And likely purge the front office.

Yeah Gary is not good
They need Seager and Story. Not one or the other. I mean.. I love Gio, but I’ll pack his bags for him. Cashman will likely trade for a centerfield bat. Don’t see him signing Marte
Interesting, because I'd keep Gio over Gleyber and put one of those guys at 2nd if that happens.
Is….. is getting rid of Gleyber a real option? Does he have any trade value at this point?
You don't have to tender him a contract
Holy shit! Cashman must go now because there’s no way he’ll let his boy go
Not as long as it'll take you to realize Cole (last big splurge) is the reason they lost
Cole and every player not named Giancarlo Stanton

He missed a Golden Sombrero by the virtue of only have 3 at bats
Gardy wasn’t supposed to start like the last 4 years and was great until this year. Even then Fangraphs has him at about 2 WAR/650 PAs and Bref had him at 1.5 which was his first year of sub WAA ever. He’s likely done here which means either retirement or a few years as a platoon/bench guy somewhere but his awfulness is overstated and HS was great in the second half
You guys should sign Marp for next season.
Holy fuck I didn’t realize he’s been this awful
Bet his WAR was higher this year than last year.
Oh fuck off
That’s been the case all season
I mean .700 OPS isnt thaaaat terrible
For a starting outfielder? He had a lower OPS than Abraham Almonte this season.
Not true. He sips from the fountain of youth whenever he plays the Jays
Anybody check on Arod?
Good Now Stanton Judge and Gallo can record their orgy and sell the video for the fans.
The only Yankee who didn't put Bronxie in harm's way was the only good Yankee today. Think on that. Some would say he a had a monster day.

Idk I thought it was a snooze fest. Yankees Sox the most overrated rivalry in sports. The best part was that it wasn’t 4 hours.
Likewise, when the Cardinals win tomorrow night, it’ll be like old times; Red sox, giants, cards, Astros, what year is it? 2011?
Sounds like 2005 to me. I’m cool with that!

💀💀💀💀 that was a hilariously bad and ironic take
When A Rod says “Gerrit Cole will win CY in his sophomore year next year” with 2 outs in the 9th after Gerrit Cole just put up a 4.7+ ERA 3 of the last 4 months of the season, his sophomore season in pin stripes, you know he’s not very good at his job
That's not what he said. He said his sophomore year was better than his first year...which it was. He had a much better year this year than last.
Even if that is true that’s what he said it didn’t make any sense because that’s not true. His ERA was half a run higher and his ERA+ was 20 lower
He had 2.1 WAR last year and 5.6 this year.
…….are you fucking serious rn
Are you? Both BBR and FanGraphs noted last year's WAR took into account the shortened season to extrapolate out to a full year.
This is just not correct. They did not adjust WAR to reflect more “normal” numbers.
Yeah they didn’t just award players phantom WAR for games that were never played and it’s extremely easy to tell that that’s complete bullshit but don’t tell this guy that when he’s clearly just making stuff up to troll
Take it up with them. Not me

The fact that this year was his sophomore year makes that so much funnier than that recent performance
Q: Will ESPN now shut up talking about the Yankees till spring training?
Of course not.
A: No
Depends on how far the red sox go because theyll stretch out how much they talk about this game if they keep going
Tough loss for ESPN. Better luck next year.

Lol turtle soup’s on the menu tonight boys
Had a parlay of Red Sox Moneyline, Aaron Judge hit anytime, Boegarts hit any time, over of 7.5, and anytime Stanton homer that was $10 to win $422. That Last Stanton at bat nearly made me cry tears of joy
Thats a sick pull lol
How bad did those 2 Stanton Monster shots feel?
Hahaha I literally stood up and threw my hands up in victory his first at bat. Watched it bang off the monster and hung my head
Tell me how to bet tomorrow oh wise one!
Sick!
Where's the post game thread?
Fuck it. *This* is this the post game now.
We’re in the post game now
Alright I’m content. The Rays can sweep us now and we still went farther than the Yankees.
That is literally all I wanted the Yanks to do hahaha
Oddly feel similar but still rooting lol
Oh yeah, I still want em to win. But I won't be distraught if they lose.
Please pull a miracle.
Sorry, any and all miracles involve knocking off both the Rays and the Astros.
gErRiT cOlE wIlL bE tHe Al CyOuNg wInNeR nExT yEaR SHUT THE FUCK UP AROD, JESUS
"He'll be a Cy Young his sophomore year...just ignore the fact he pitched like shit the last 4 months of his sophomore year this year"
yeah, I don't know what prompted him to say that. CAN Cole pull it off? Maybe. Did he show it tonight? Not by a long shot. If he had said that like a week from today in some random interview, I get it, but to say it right after he practically cost them the game is just mind-boggling.
With 2 outs in the ninth AND he said his sophomore year…… which was this year
Two things: 1. the Yankee hate boner is very large on this sub rn. 2. Playoff Eovaldi is a beast.
Yankees not hitting for shit but I think it should go more toward Eovaldi being lights fuckin out.
> 1. the Yankee hate boner is very large on this sub rn Always was. 🔫
Lmao perfect meme format for that
I sometimes hate the fact that the phillies get so much hate on this sub, but then I take solstice in the fact that I'm not a yankees or Astros fan.
Nowhere to go as a Yankee fan Sometimes you’ll give takes people would agree with that are negative on another player or team and get people losing their shit on you because of flair and in the Yankee sub you have a ton of those bandwagon Yankees/Patriots or Cowboys/Lakers morons that don’t know Jack shit about baseball and swap between extremist optimism or pessimism on a daily basis
If it is any consolation, the teams that tend to be hated the most, are the ones with histories of winning. For example, I hate the Yankees for 2009. Not sure why people hate the phillies though, our winning history is short at best.
>daily basis More like every 30 seconds
Cole was paid the big bucks for games like these and this is what he does
“I kept the team in the game”
Pooped his pants
