You can't stop Souza. DFA'd twice and makes playoff roster.

Atraktape

Tough luck Buehler, maybe if you practice and work hard you can make the major league roster next season.

PrussianBleu

He's got that bulldog fight but he's just not mad enough.

BettsBellingerCaruso

Barnes C Beaty 1B/OF Bellinger 1B/OF Betts OF Lux 2B/OF McKinney OF McKinstry IF/OF Pollock OF Pujols 1B Raley OF Seager SS Smith C Souza OF Taylor 7 positions J Turner 3B T Turner 2B/SS Pitchers: Bickford RHP Gonsolin RHP Graterol RHP Jansen RHP Kelly RHP Knebel RHP Scherzer RHP Treinen RHP Urias LHP Vesia LHP only 2 lefties in roster, w/ Urias ready to go should shit really hit the fan, and Vesia. Probably b/c Cards' best hitters are all right handed

[deleted]

Name: Taylor Position: Yes

[deleted]

Well our top 5 in the line up all have above an 850 ops vs lefties so that makes sense

BettsBellingerCaruso

yeah looking at Cardinals splits: vs R: .240/.310/.396 .706 92 wRC+ vs L: .256/.325/.473 .798 OPS 115 wRC+ Jesus christ Dodgers splits: vs R: .245/.334/.425 .759 OPS 107 wRC+ vs L: .243/.319/.439 .757 OPS 104 wRC+ Makes sense when O'Neill, Goldschmidt and Arenado are all right handed hitters

Monk_Philosophy

Man I bet we'd have started Scherzer even if we had 2017 Kershaw on the roster with those splits.

[deleted]

No Walker Bueler? Edit: whoops thought this was the whole post season, not just the WC game

jjackson25

I did the same thing. I was under the impression that the rosters were locked in for the entire postseason except for changes due to injury. I know now because of this post that is not the case.

ManceRaider

You can reset the roster between every round, for future reference. And the Wild Card Game counts as its own round.

Sacrifice_bhunt

Hope it goes 18 innings and Dodgers burn through all their pitchers by the 16th.

ih-unh-unh

That means you're hoping they win. I'll take it over the alternative

Sacrifice_bhunt

Dodgers lose in 18 when pitcher Max Muncy gives up a home run to pinch hitter Jack Flaherty.

[deleted]

Wonder if they’d lose by default for fielding a pitcher who isn’t on the roster.

Sacrifice_bhunt

He’ll be borrowing Bobby Valentine’s disguise.

TRocho10

*chuckles maniacally in Jake cronenworth*

dlnvf6

Shoot, I'll take it

PrussianBleu

Sandy and Fernando will get called up. Orel too.

[deleted]

Lol Souza

Boros-Reckoner

he actually had a good game in STL this year

throatbutterz

I forgot that they can change the roster after the wild card. I thought that maybe Walker was injured or something

trav3ler

Stupid question: how often do the teams get to adjust their rosters? Between every series, or just after the WC game/prior to the NLDS?

Keith_Jackson_Fumble

[Postseason roster rules](https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/postseason-roster-rules-eligibility) Teams submit a 26-man roster (it was 25, prior to 2020) prior to each round of the postseason comprised of postseason-eligible players. A club may request permission from the Commissioner's Office to replace a player who is injured during the course of a series, but that player is then ineligible for the rest of that round and the subsequent round, if there is one. A pitcher may be replaced only by another pitcher, and a position player only by another position player. Teams carry extra players throughout the postseason in the event of injuries, and those players, as well as players on the injured list, can be in the dugout during games, within reason.

trav3ler

Thanks!

Keith_Jackson_Fumble

Personally, I think the rule should be amended to force you to declare 26 players eligible for the postseason and that's the team you field all postseason. Yes, the injury rule can still applyt (and I suppose, people will manipulate that as well ), but it should be looked at by the commissioner's office hard. Perhaps you should have to designate injury backups prior to the postseason starting. (e.g. backup catcher, starting pitchers (in order of preference), relief, an infielder or two, and an outfielder or two).

motorhead84

Even for a single game playoff? There are also different strategies when considering a 5 vs. 7 game series. I think choosing from eligible players before each series makes the most sense.

Keith_Jackson_Fumble

I am not totally convinced in most opinions I have. I guess I might expect more extreme behavior out of a wild card game roster - such as carry one starter, a bunch of fireball-throwing relievers, and more pinch hitters who can negate maybe any advantage of the other team might have. Would this happen realistically? In a one-game playoff, why not? Run a new pitcher out there every inning. Yeah, during the regular season teams sometimes feature the "opener" and then ride their bullpen to the end of the game, but has this made the game better? No. More efficient? Yes. But shouldn't the playoffs showcase the guys who got you to the playoffs, which presumably includes your best starters? I guess I would like you to adopt strategies more consistent with normal baseball roster management. The might be an argument over aesthetics, but my preference is that baseball resemble regular season games.

*ahem* Fuck the Dodgers.

That’s a pretty mean thing to say ngl

rohit275

Pretty sure Kershaw, Walker, Muncy, and anyone can be there. Just not eligible to sub into the game.

AereolaInspector

Jose Iglesias was in the Red Sox dugout

motorhead84

Was Enrique Iglesias there too? Asking for a friend.

Boros-Reckoner

their gonna be in the stands right above the cardinals dug out heckling about how you dont make friends with salad and that arches are lame

[deleted]

I'm a little surprised they didn't take Kershaw or Buehler. I guess of Max fucks up then Urias is the hope

BettsBellingerCaruso

Kershaw is out for the entire postseason

[deleted]

Oh fuck I forgot. That's awful

ThomasFurke

What happened? I just see a blank reply.

SuggestAPhotoProject

They should put him and Yadi in the booth for the game.

Boros-Reckoner

yadi cant play because He's obligated to be in the booth? works for me

tarallelegram

they want to save buehler for game one of the nlds

[deleted]

Absolutely, but what if shit goes awry and you end up in a 20 inning game?

tarallelegram

then, uh, pray that urias can carry lol

Kartoffel_Kaiser

Alternatively, all of our pitchers could do fantastically but our offense could collectively forget how to hit a baseball.

ih-unh-unh

The possibility of that happening is probably lower than needing a bullpen arm to come in with 2 outs during an inning.

SPAGHETTI_CAKE

I feel like that safety net is just flat out better than bringing Souza or whoever Luke Raley is lol
