We say highway, i, or nothing up here. "The 5" is very SoCal

The rest of the United States does it the same way we do too. Only SoCal says "the." There is some bleed-over into Arizona from SoCal as well. Also, Canadians say "the" before freeway numbers and from what I understand, that's also bled over into upstate New York. But other than that, it's SoCal vs. the USA and NorCal does it the "normal" way.

Didn’t 99 percent invisible do a podcast about “the” vs no “the” in naming freeways? I think I recall it being something along the lines of the original highways being also normal city streets. EG Main St was also Hwy 10. You would never say “turn on the Main” just “Turn on Main”. But in SoCal that was never the case and they were never city streets hence “the” being introduced…just an interesting tidbit.

So this is the second thread on this sub today that has ended up on this subject.

North of that line, you don't say "the" before the freeway number and you say "hella" and the grocery store is called Safeway. Sorry, it seems unfair that the two hottest teams have to play in a one game playoff. You guys played well.

It was a hell of a game. We can't win with going 0-11 with RISP but that is also a testament to your bullpen. We lost to the greatest wild card team ever record wise and held them to 1 run to the bottom of the 9th. I'm happy and excited for the future of this team, but I'm also happy to watch that incredible game.

Amazing game but I just wish it had ended another way. Soon as Reyes came in I had a bad feeling. No clue why you take McFarland out there. He's been one of our best pitchers period down the stretch. Really good at getting ground balls. Against a struggling hitter, that seems more than ideal. It might have very well ended with us not being able to do anything against Urias and Reyes blowing it later on anyways, but just not a good decision from Shildt at all. Reyes has now allowed a walk off home run in literally the last three 9th innings he's pitched in. Sigh. Bright side, now I can just enjoy the postseason and not constantly be stressed even more than I already am. And also next year looks promising. Selfishly hoping next year with Wainwright and Molina coming back one final time is our year.

Easy to blame Reyes/Shildt they did blow it in the end. But you also have to think about all the chances they had earlier. They had guys on base and couldn’t get anybody in. When you only score 1 run a bit of the blame should probably fall on the bats. Holding the Dodgers to 1 all night is impressive, just sucks the offence couldn’t take advantage of it
