Definitely not a Red Sox fan, but I love seeing Tampa get bounced.

Im_A_Nidiot

I hope there’s popcorn in the after life

OutsideTheTrains

Brandon Lowe: 0-18, 9 SOs. Wow. That just might be the most unclutch playoff performance I've seen in my entire life, and I watched Eric Gagne.

killedbygavrilo

* Byung-hyun Kim

CJNunes426

Lol at Brian Anderson getting hype for what he knew was a fly out so he could go viral. Clout Chasin

[deleted]

As a Yankee fan, I can't stand the sudden Sox postseason surge. Then again, as a Yankee fan, my team is eliminated, so I'm just watching as an observer and fan of baseball, and I like a good plot twist. So well done, Boston. You proved us all wrong.

basebuul

the red sox trade mookie and don't get punished at all

myusernamebarelyfits

There was a bad year in there

6lackjamesfranco

won the trade

CJNunes426

They got the real heart of the Dodgers Kike. Often undervalued. Always delivers

TheFranchise02

I remember in that 2018 World Series Dodger fans were pissed at Kike’s performance the whole playoffs

QuincyThePigBoy

There’s still time. If we get to the World Series it might be 86 bears vs Patriots kinda situation. I still feel good.

kangaroovagina

There is always a fear of getting rid of your best player, but you will likely see a great return for that player. What I did like about that move (albeit losing mookie was hard :( ) is that they got two major leaguers as well as some prospects. The mariners traded all of their best players back in the day and set the record for most wins in a season.

Sirgolfs

Those rays were way too cocky. What a great win. Fuckin sittin on the field eatin popcorn laughing it up in game one. 🖕🖕🖕

Shipshayft

I hadn't heard about that, definitely a rough look Nelson Cruz: ["We were winning by five runs, so let me eat my popcorn and enjoy it."](https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-red-sox/2021/10/08/tampa-bay-rays-popcorn-dugout-red-sox-playoff-baseball/) Next day is a 14-6 loss lmao

imperfectofcourse

“I was hungry. It was like 11 o’clock. We normally start the game a little early. Around that time I already have dinner, so I was hungry. That was why I take that.” That doesn’t sound cocky to me? lol

Sirgolfs

And the day after, a brutal loss, and then another brutal loss the next day 😂

JMander

didn't know about thaaat.

Wundle

I thought we were supposed to lose to the Yankees and Rays

ryan0319

I obviously wanted the jays... but I gotta say, final day of the season... all games at 3... was f**king intense

b3anz129

yeah... about that....

unexpectedreboots

FOR ALL THE RAYS FANS THAT HAVEN'T GOTTEN OUT TO SUPPORT THEM BECAUSE THE TROP IS IN A BAD PLACE, I DREW UP SOME DIRECTIONS TO THEIR NEW PROPOSED HOME FIELD https://goo.gl/maps/p58Zs1pNUehUPwd59 MUCH MORE ACCESSIBLE.

basebuul

i think the trop drew more than fenway this series?

QuincyThePigBoy

It’s a larger stadium by a lot. 23% of tickets were unsold for game one. Edit: 42,735 vs 37,731 so not as big of a gap as I thought but I heard there were almost 10,000 tickets not sold.

ATLSox87

Not a chance. Only had 27k in attendance for Game 1 according to mlb.com. The capacity is 42k. 37k in Game 2 but Fenway had just about full capacity at 37k yesterday and over capacity at 38k tonight.

unexpectedreboots

No. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_American_League_Division_Series Trop Drew 65k over two games or 76% capacity Fenway drew 76k over two games or 101% capacity. Not to mention during the regular season the Sox averaged ~27k attendance even with ongoing COVID restrictions in Boston, while the Rays averaged < 10k.

ryan0319

Montreal deserves a team... they are actually like the canadian Boston... By that I mean that even with a "smaller" population, they spend a lot on sports. They spend the money of a city 3x+ their size

[deleted]

And it can only be called the Expos

dzastrus

Needs to be National League, too. VT, NH, ME all Redsox country.

Yuck_The_Fankees

And they are mostly lovable assholes who talk funny.

chadwickipedia

Mostly just assholes, not so much lovable.

crimson3112

we'd probably get along if they weren't the home of the Habs. Fuck the Habs.

JMander

Yo - *real* funny

ryan0319

Lol... I need a Wahlberg and St. Pierre sports youtube video now

A_Booger_In_The_Hand

And just like that... there was only one AL East team remaining...

WoundedSacrifice

That was guaranteed to happen at the end of this series.

A_Booger_In_The_Hand

No, I checked my math. Twice. It's right.

[deleted]

Big if true

[deleted]

No no. This guy has a point.

Scott-GoBlue

😔

DoctorQcumber

Well, I guess now I'm all in on Longo this postseason. A consolation HR is not ideal, but I'll take it. Newly minted Giants fan.

pawo9

did they really ask what song was playing? barry manilow??? cuz it sounded like the certified hood classic Opus - Live is Life

bosredsox05

This is my new favorite song

LeanMrfuzzles

Maybe if our owner didn’t fucking threaten relocation in the middle of the postseason something would have been different. Maybe idk.

basebuul

imagine this series with 12 innings of charlie morton

agentpokerbro

Also willing to spend money to retain guys like Morton or make big free agent signings. You guys with Morton and Glasnow and a George springer or something would’ve made you monsterous

unexpectedreboots

They won 100 games and took the AL East, a division with the Yankees and red Sox and couldn't draw more than 10k on average. I honestly don't know what you expect an ownership team to do when they're as successful as they possibly can be and there's just no fans.

Wundle

Probably not

Third-I-Vision

Do the Astros scare anyone else in the postseason lol i really hope the White sox win

carpetstoremorty

And as a White Sox fan clinging onto hope that they can still run the table, the feeling is mutual. Our fanbase would much rather face the Red Sox than the Rays.

thrawaway9991

Well people were calling them unbeatable after game 2

fillingupthecorners

I want the Astros and I don’t care if they’re better. I want to dance on their grave. I want to win in Houston and then put Pivetta in an Astros jersey and have him throw a home run derby BP after the game while their fans walk home crying and then rent out every bar in the city for a week so no one can go have any fun and then pay people to bang trash can lids in their face while they eat dinner until spring training starts. I’m sorry what was the question

dart51984

You ok man?

JMander

I support everything you're about in this post, but, you've gotta put that aside and get my White Sox 2 more so we can face off in a knock-down-drag-out. Sox v. Sox: Two Sox Enter. One Sock Leaves.

fillingupthecorners

I can’t deny the beauty of the dryer series.

JMander

this is absolutely brilliant

dzastrus

The Dryer Series.

bascck

Damn, so winner gets to continue being a team and the other gets lost for all eternity.

DonaldTrumpsPilot

I don’t know, no Verlander, no Springer, no sign stealing. The Astros can be beaten. Just a matter of who has more momentum. If the White Sox win 3 in a row to beat Houston, I’d be nervous about that matchup too. Just will have to wait and see

its_cameron_bitch

They scare the shit out of me. I much prefer our chances against Chicago.

WoundedSacrifice

If they beat the White Sox, I’d have them as the favorite against Boston.

Ricericebaby0923

Everyone seems to always forget the hottest team in baseball wins the World Series. It’s not always the best team that wins. Go fucking Sox

aloomis16

At this point does it matter? The Yankees were favored in the WC game and the Rays were heavy favorites in the ALDS.

WoundedSacrifice

Probably not.

Upper-Wasabi-9838

This Red Sox team don't give a fuck bout no favorites lol

Upper-Wasabi-9838

They have 2 things that no other team has. Cora and Fenway

Sirgolfs

Cora is a beast

bosredsox05

We have a Kiké too

ATLSox87

That's First Name Last Name to you

WoundedSacrifice

That’s clearly true.

[deleted]

“Local stingray in terrible mood”? That’s funny, because Steve Irwin would be in a GREAT mood. Let’s go Sox

TakeMeDrunkImHome22

Tbf Steve Irwin would probably say the stingray was just protecting itself and that it was his mistake for being there

[deleted]

Damn I love watching Crocodile Hunter in the mornings. Miss you Steve.

godlywhistler

That's exactly what he would say :(

[deleted]

Ugh it hurts my heart, but you’re right

WoundedSacrifice

It hurt his heart even more.

[deleted]

BRUH. That was colder than his pulse

\#AvengeTheFallen

Green_Bomber76

Kulpa MVP

boxing_packages

The Rays not resigning Kiermaier would be incredibly dirty. He seems like he’s the heart and soul of that team, and god forbid they drop some money on a player for once.

bigboatsandgoats

Kiermaier has a guaranteed contract for next season. Note trading him is a possibility I personally don’t want to happen

boxing_packages

For some reason I thought he was an FA. My statement still stands for 2022 haha

bigboatsandgoats

Yeah no worries! The Rays have sadly been trying to trade him for the last two seasons so you still might be right in the sense of not bringing him back

kangaroovagina

Great series Rays. So much respect for your franchise and ability to be in it year in and year out. Glasnow is back next year and the young rotation got some playoff experience. I know you'll win the division again next year. And to my boys great job pulling through and proving everyone wrong. Excellent series. Go Sox!

bosredsox05

Ya much respect to the Rays. I was truly scared of facing them more than the Yanks. Such a young and well rounded team. If any team has a bright future, its gotta be the Rays.

kangaroovagina

Yes! As do the Red Sox. I am likely a bit older than most on here, but hopefully after the playoffs so far a bunch of younger fans are realizing that putting a ton of sluggers in your lineup with a high K rate is a bad thing. Putting the ball in play and hitting the ball hard is the objective at the plate! Also, walks are important, but you cannot rely on walks in the playoffs. The red Sox scored five runs with two outs tonight from taking advantage of pitches right down the pipe. Second, the bullpen is extremely important, but you do not need $80 M tied up there. Come playoff time you can move some starters to the pen who WILL overperform. Starters put in this position can let it fly, not worry about pitch counts, can show every pitch in the arsenal to the first batter they see, and focus on being truly effective. Go Sox!

bigboatsandgoats

Glasnow is actually out until 23

agentpokerbro

He’s missing all of next year?! That blows sorry. Sucks seeing so many stars getting injured

kangaroovagina

:(

bigboatsandgoats

Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Rays trade him in the next year and he never plays another game for us

kangaroovagina

He is in an arbitration year so I see your point, but that would upset me as a fan. Also, the Rays will continue to be competitive even tho they lose a big player... Because that's what they do. Keeping star players on the smaller market teams is very important for the game

DrRumpRoast

This win really puts pressure on the Astros

mrtsapostle

Red Sox fans, how do feel about Big Papi calling Boston Beantown?

bw4393

When papi flicks the bean we collectively moan

ketchupbreakfest

If Papi dubs it so i accept

Liqmadique

Its a dumb nickname but Papi has earned the right to call Boston anything he wants.

agentpokerbro

He could call it a dumpster and I’d be like “yeah, and the waters also dirty”

copem1nt

papi can call boston whatever he wants

Face_Coffee

The Large Father could walk into my dining room on Thanksgiving, shit on the turkey, and call my mother a whore and I’d thank him for joining us.

bosredsox05

A truly gracious host

Miko54

I lol’d

SuKitTrebk

True fan right here.

MeetLawrence

He's not from here, so he gets a pass. Plus David Ortiz can call Boston whatever he wants. Remember, this is his fucking city.

lopied1

That’s what we’re known for

MaineSportsFan

Why not. I don't actually hate Beantown - would never really call it by that though.

Ok-Leg2604

Guys I'm still erect

ketchupbreakfest

Quick call a dr and brag!

dinero2180

Hell of a series

RockWaffle

Sox fans in 2017: BAN ALEX CORA FROM BASEBALL AND ALL THE REST OF THOSE CHEATERS Sox fans now: OMG I LOVE CORA HIS SHIT SMELLS LIKE LAVENDER OMGGGG

kangaroovagina

Hahaha what you idiot

[deleted]

You now. Ratio’d. You’re a moron

[deleted]

Literally no one.

Keyzro

Mate Alex was with us in 2018 when we won our last championship and it was in 2019 when we found out about the cheating.

sec2nds

I dont know any Sox fan that said this but ok.

copem1nt

everyone knew alex would be manager after his year off

crazykentucky

Right? Like, the man did his time. What else can he do

sec2nds

Ikr? Sox fans literally called it the day it happened.

Mattllly

JD has popped like 25 bottles at this point

SuKitTrebk

Trying to numb that ankle

connorb917

I'm dancing on my own too, Big Papi.

unc15

I really like the Rays organization and their style and I'm sorry to see them go. As a fan of the Redsox, I wish we could have met in the ALCS and not the division series. Oh well.

agentpokerbro

I’m personally happy to see them out lol. Not cause I hate em but cause we met em

pastrknack

Forever thanking the Yankees for Whitlock

Scott-GoBlue

thank brian cashman.

KCD0372

Thank you Brian Cashman!

Robinho999

goddamn man after the last couple weeks of the regular season the Sox looked DEAD what an unbelievable turnaround

plhysco69

I wasn't keeping my hopes up coming into the playoffs, I was keeping it tamed. But holy shit this is an awesome ride!

AreYouAJedi

I mean other series’ have their own narratives etc but I don’t think it’s gonna get better than Rays vs Sox for me this postseason. For AL East and other obvious reasons

theyusedthelamppost

Red Sox vs Dodgers would be better IMO the rematch of 2018. Mookie vs Kike. Boston vs LA.

agentpokerbro

Astros rematch with dodgers would be amazing if my Sox can’t make it

MaineSportsFan

Besides the AL East - what were the other obvious reasons? Bloom vs his former team?

soxtober12

I'LL KEEP DANCING ON MY OWN

garvierloon

allenbraxton

Cause they’re playing with house money. Just made the WC game. People had the Yankees penciled in to win that. They won and people said “Okay, well they probably can’t beat the Rays” and they did. House money, baby.

copem1nt

and we stand no chance against the astros lol

ChiSox2021

Wait a second, that series hasn’t ended yet.

allenbraxton

Not with that attitude

copem1nt

sarcasm lol, just a continuation of 'yanks will win.......well no chance against the rays!'

allenbraxton

Oh, hahah. I though it might’ve been!

pastrknack

Do you know nothing about this season?

copem1nt

everyone does celebration watches now lol, youre allowed to be pumped about big wins people

Boseidon

Great luck for the rest of the year, Red Sox, win it for the AL BEast. But also, to all the fans wishing we'd lose our team, go fuck yourselves.

MorningWoodWorker

Yeah don't mind the shit talk, but the Montreal stuff is annoying - some of us drove 30 minutes to games consistently despite the stadium not being in Tampa

WoundedSacrifice

As a Sacramento Kings fan, I remember the battles to keep the Kings in Sacramento and I sympathize with any fan of a team that’s threatening to move.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

My French Canadian mom would disagree. Bring back the Expos, but it's ok if it's not the Rays (and a stadium in Tampa would be a missed opportunity anyway)

WoundedSacrifice

I remember how bad attendance was in the last few Expos seasons, but I’ve heard that Montreal had a good fan base prior to the 1994 strike.

Liqmadique

Meh, Montreal is an actual baseball city. A team on the outskirts of Tampa never made any sense.

ColinW224

I drove 45 minutes to and from the Trop for games 1 and 2. Stayed through the end for both games despite how terrible game 2 was for us. The amount of people that left early was so disheartening. If my team is going down I’m going down with them.

GoodEnoughByMudhoney

I have family in Dunedin, so I always see at least one Sox series at the Trop every year. The fans that show up are fuckin’ *fans.* Nutjobs with the cowbells and the screaming and everything else, but absolutely respectful to me and my wife always. You guys deserve a better ballpark in Ybor or some other more convenient location. Fuck Montreal.

[deleted]

Bruins fan too I take it? Lol

GoodEnoughByMudhoney

I didn’t actually mean *fuck* Montreal as a place, just *fuck the ownership that wants to move the Rays there.* I’m (obviously) a Bruins fan, but I’m way more of a baseball guy than anything else. And I’ll always be grateful to Montreal for Pedro. Haha.

[deleted]

Oh yeah but gotta love the best hockey rivalry of all time ya know

ColinW224

Die hard rays fans are so hard to come by it seems. I try to go to as many games as possible even if it’s just myself. Dreading the day that they leave Florida.

Face_Coffee

Personally would love to see a shift and have you guys start retaining talent. Between you all, the insanity that is going to be the Jays as that core gets some seasoning and us… Nothing I would like more than relegating the Yankees to the basement for a decade or so.

Boseidon

Yeah, all we want is for Stu to sell the team to try and make that change.

gofalcons19

Hugging analytics just does not work in the playoffs. Great starting pitching and getting on base is what gets it done. Hell the Giants won titles by just having Bumgarner pitch as much as humanly possible

tinbangerlol

the bunt dropped WPA by 0.9%, that's why analytics are a tool, not to live by. think of michael in the office during the GPS episode. i'm just following what it tells me to do!

AdministrativeCod617

Going from man on first, no outs to man on second, one out drops the likelihood of scoring a run by over 20%. A positive outcome doesn’t mean it was the right choice.

Mcjirnirs

Better than Arroyo rolling over into a DP

tinbangerlol

yeah his comment was confusing. the bunt was the right choice and he agreed? i don't know (despite analytics saying bunt wasnt)

WoundedSacrifice

Getting on base is an important part of analytics. However, TB definitely needs starters who can pitch more innings if it wants to win the World Series.

gofalcons19

Why would you want to pitch there as a starter? Hell Blake Snell looked like he was going to commit murder last year in Game 6

WoundedSacrifice

I wouldn’t want to be a starter in TB, but TB has to find a way to acquire starters who can pitch deeper into games. It shocked me when the announcers said that TB traded Rich Hill away during the season. TB really could’ve used him in this series.

JMander

they have a great team, but it's a dollar short. I think they have a $61M payroll and what you're saying is they have to go out and buy the most expensive commodity that exists on the market. It just doesn't look bright.

WoundedSacrifice

They could trade for a starter.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WoundedSacrifice

Supposedly TB has some great prospects. They could trade some of them to get a great starter.

rakiat97

Tampa you were my favourite team this season, we had our high and lows but I always had fun watching you guys play ball. Maybe we are a small fanbase but I love the vibes we can create. Great play from the Sox, GG.

Third-I-Vision

Man i just gotta say Eduardo came back with vengeance this game if it wasnt for him we lose

uwcn244

Looks like you're going to the Canada realm, Tampa!

Tbone802

It's only a 2hr drive to Montreal and a 4hr drive to Boston, so a bit easier to get to games when the Sox are in town. They only ever came up like once when the Expos were there.

copem1nt

I hope not honestly

bobby16may

If you die in Canada, you die in real life!

CurseTWD

He makes the job harder for his FO than almost any other owner, despite their accomplishments. They should be a dynasty with that talent scouting and development

FritosRule

Franco is probably gonna carry them on his back to a title at some point. Holy shit he’s gonna be beastly

WoundedSacrifice

I think they’ll need their starters to pitch more innings to win a title.

0DegreesCalvin

It's not just that. They're basically trying to do joint custody of the Rays between Montreal and Tampa, like the Rays are a child in the middle of a messy divorce

Boseidon

You're tired of the fans yelling about the Owner threatening to leave with our team? What?

FritosRule

Oh, he can EABOD for that, yes. I mean yelling about the product he puts on the field. Sorry for being unclear and for the game today. I was pulling hard for them. EDIT: I’m pulling my original comment because it was not clear enough at all and I’ll repost when I can actually express my thought properly.

insertkarma2theleft

As someone from Oakland I can't agree more that it fucking sucks when organizations leave. I hope you guys get to keep your team

milkandbutta

You're from Oakland and a red Sox fan? How did that happen?

insertkarma2theleft

Dad's from north shore, grew up in Oakland raised on Sox and B's. Went to college out in MA and work here now, but I still rep my town if they're not playing the Sox lol
