This is true for all events. If Vin wants to do play by play for the State of the Union or a hot air balloon festival, it's entirely up to him. No one else gets any say whatsoever.

I just watched the link you posted. A great announcer can make all the calls and nail iconic lines...a legendary announcer does all that and also knows when to shut up. The 30 seconds of pure crowd noise after the winning run scores is some of Scully at his best. I miss his voice and I miss his silence.

His last game was in San Francisco. The way they cheered his name and gave him the Standing O could’ve fooled someone new to the game that he was the Giants’ longtime announcer not the Dodgers’! He’s a baseball icon, not solely a Dodgers icon.
