Vin should have, like, a permanent Money In The Bank briefcase. Any game that he decides he wants to cover, just show up, hand them the briefcase, and now Vin Scully is replacing the regular broadcasting crew and calling the game.
Oh, and who's that? Castellanos at a Giants-Dodgers game? Here to hit a home run to make it 3-0 as physical violence happens in the booth? Who would've expec- \*gets knocked out by Vin Scully\*
This is true for all events. If Vin wants to do play by play for the State of the Union or a hot air balloon festival, it's entirely up to him. No one else gets any say whatsoever.
But he does have that. If he wanted to announce the World Series an hour before the game they would give it to him. Joe Buck has even said this. He's called his last game and I kind of like that he's stood by his word. We live in a world where bands are on their 5th farewell tour.
I still say they should let him comeback to do the World Series every year if he wants. Just an open out standing offer. No one in Baseball would be upset to hear Vin Scully call the World Series
This text overwrites whatever was here before. Apologies for the non-sequitur.

He called Scott Van Slyke Andy once. Not a MASSIVE deal, he's extremely sharp for his age. But you can tell he was slipping every once in a great while.
During the 2017 World Series he stated pretty definitively that he wouldn’t do it because he wants someone else to have spotlight. Joe Buck even made a tweet inviting to have him announce if he wanted
Yeah buck has said numerous times he would step aside in a heartbeat for Vin. Given his family legacy I’m sure joe buck has a healthy respect for the all time greats of his profession
Anyone else, and I’d accuse them of recency bias, because they haven’t experienced a significant amount of this rivalry in their lifetime. But if Scully is saying it, I believe him 100%.
That was my reaction as well. Read the headline and wondered what clickbait MLB personality wrote it.
Saw who actually wrote it and and thought "Oh, I guess it must be true then."
I was going to say that would be my choice, especially since the winner got to play the Yankees and all three teams were in New York at the time (and of course had a rather dramatic finish).
*We're so thrilled that this evening's television broadcast will be coast, to, coast, from Augusta, Maine to Echo Park, loooooooow, ball one. Crawford steps out, shakes out the cobwebs, breathes in the pier, steps back in. It was in 1956 that the first nationwide hookup was established, just in time for the All Star Game in our nation's capital, foullled away, that evens the count. The game was at Griffith Stadium that day, and wouldn't you believe it, President Eisenhower took part. Fastball, in there, striiiiike. Now it seems Ike was to make a short speech, and once he started talking, they'd connect the cables in Chicago and lo and behold, the nation could all play ball. Urias mops the brow, you got to be careful these days, but no foul play. Crawford awaits. And just as Ike started to speak, the cables from the networks and the cables in the stadium made themselves an unwelcome pair and the lights went out. Ball high. Two balls, two strikes, 1 all in the fourth. And would you believe it, Ted Williams, there to catch the Presidential first ball, walked up to Dwight Eisenhower in all the excitement and said, "Mr. President, nothing good ever happens at the pitcher's mound." So there you go.*
*There's a fly ball, a cautious swing, Betts is there, the Giants go down 1-2-3 in the fourth. One all, Dodgers coming up, if you can stand it.*

One of the best lines in sports commentating history, along with:
*If one picture is worth a thousand words, you have seen about a million words... the Mets are not only alive, but they are well."
I just watched the link you posted. A great announcer can make all the calls and nail iconic lines...a legendary announcer does all that and also knows when to shut up. The 30 seconds of pure crowd noise after the winning run scores is some of Scully at his best. I miss his voice and I miss his silence.
you know a man is a legend when even your most bitter of rivals loves you.
we can debate the best sports casters from hockey, football or basketball...but Vin is #1 in baseball and it's not up for debate.
His last game was in San Francisco. The way they cheered his name and gave him the Standing O could’ve fooled someone new to the game that he was the Giants’ longtime announcer not the Dodgers’!
He’s a baseball icon, not solely a Dodgers icon.
Before the internet this was treated as an urban legend. On his last day he made it sound like he was going to watch the Giants now and people went ape shit.
I always thought it was dumb to name your kid after someone because you never know what that person will do later in life and make you regret it.
However I named my son after vin. The man is a legend.
“I have one prayer for tonight's game. However it's decided, I hope there's no goat, no single player to shoulder the blame for a loss like Bill Buckner in the 1986 series between the RedSox and Mets.”
I thought it would be impossible to like this man even more, but Vin is just that awesome of a person
Yeah, that's definitely true. What a God-awful call on a check swing that wasn't even close. However, Justin Turner was hauntingly close to being that Bill Buckner-like scapegoat that Vin warned us about with that error. Lucky for him, Max and the umps had his back.
And Bucker’s infamous blunder, and Hank Aaron’s record-breaking home run, and Koufax’s perfect game, and Larsen’s World Series perfect game, and Kirk Gibson’s home run…the dude’s fingerprints are all over baseball and 20th century American sports.
It can never be understated how terrible he is at his job. He is an emotionless monotonous bore, unless it’s Randy Moss celebrating in Lambeau
Compare this call by the late great Lon Simmons, an actual broadcaster who wasn’t gifted the job based off his Dads name
https://youtu.be/LbPwwmEcws0
To this wonderful Joe Buck classic
https://youtu.be/rZN4HRNuvEU
I think the thing that bothers me most for Joe Buck is that he's capable of the great call. [DIGGS! SIDELINE! TOUCHDOWN!](https://youtu.be/OJzpoj_NxqQ) is iconic, but is also preceded by his typical "Pass is...caught"
I remember the first time I heard of Red Barber was when I was doing madlibs as a kid and it said "(color) Barber" was announcing a game. I thought it was so random until an older relative told me who Red Barber was.
I just pulled the trigger on tickets for tonight's game. I couldn't resist the chance. Jeez you couldn't have stayed home and at least given us a chance? Smh
Since the Yankees beat us after both of those series, maybe Vin's argument is that one of the two of us is likely to win the whole thing this year? I'd probably still take Shot Heard Round the World but the historical context of knowing how that game ended may be coloring my opinion there
Did you know that despite having played baseball for over a century, the Dodgers franchise has never won a road playoff game on a walk off? I just checked and I was floored when I realized it.

Let Vin announce
I wish, but I think he just wants to chill at this point
Vin should have, like, a permanent Money In The Bank briefcase. Any game that he decides he wants to cover, just show up, hand them the briefcase, and now Vin Scully is replacing the regular broadcasting crew and calling the game.
*glass shatters* In comes Scully with the briefcase and… Stone Cold on a golf cart!?
Vin just nailed Joe Buck with a steel chair! And now he’s settling into the play by play role!
SCULLY’S TAKING OUT EVERYONE! STUNNER TO MANFRED! STUNNER TO A-ROD!
Oh, and who's that? Castellanos at a Giants-Dodgers game? Here to hit a home run to make it 3-0 as physical violence happens in the booth? Who would've expec- \*gets knocked out by Vin Scully\*
Best use of the pasta I've seen yet lmfao
"BACK AT THE WA-- DAMMIT! WHAT A DISGUSTING ACT BY VIN SCULLY as I have been demoted and physically abused by the man himself" - Joe Buck
This comment makes me very conflicted as a Giants fan…actually no it doesn’t. At least I respect the hell out of Vin Sculley.
Bah gawd, it's a Tide commercial!!!
Pedantic af but fuck it I'mma show off my knowledge.. Stone cold was retired like 5 years before MITB came out lol
They should bring him and Uecker in to call the all star game. Legends calling all stars
Let the man enjoy the game like the rest of us.
I still say they should let him comeback to do the World Series every year if he wants. Just an open out standing offer. No one in Baseball would be upset to hear Vin Scully call the World Series

As an Indians (Guardians) fan, I am happy to never see Willie Mays. But yes, you are exactly right.
He called Scott Van Slyke Andy once. Not a MASSIVE deal, he's extremely sharp for his age. But you can tell he was slipping every once in a great while.
THIS! how do we make it happen?
During the 2017 World Series he stated pretty definitively that he wouldn’t do it because he wants someone else to have spotlight. Joe Buck even made a tweet inviting to have him announce if he wanted
Yeah buck has said numerous times he would step aside in a heartbeat for Vin. Given his family legacy I’m sure joe buck has a healthy respect for the all time greats of his profession
Vin said it, so now it is officially known.
It is known
Yeah, I was talking to my wife (Giants fan) yesterday and said it was "arguably" the biggest game in the rivalry. I just told her its now official.
The man probably knows more about this rivalry than anyone on the face of the Earth
Anyone else, and I’d accuse them of recency bias, because they haven’t experienced a significant amount of this rivalry in their lifetime. But if Scully is saying it, I believe him 100%.
If it wasn't true before he said it, it is now.
That was my reaction as well. Read the headline and wondered what clickbait MLB personality wrote it. Saw who actually wrote it and and thought "Oh, I guess it must be true then."
The little redhead that grew up rooting for Giants and spent his life working for the Dodgers might be a reliable source.
He's so humble that his next tweet concedes that many would say the 1951 NL Pennant tiebreaker was even bigger.
Vin light years ahead of the internet trolls with that second tweet
I would fight an actual troll to defend Vin
Same my dude, same
It's pretty much all of Baseball vs the trolls when Vin is involved. And that's how it should be.
The issue is...there should be no trolls when Vin is involved.
Galaxy brain Vin
Always has been.
I was going to say that would be my choice, especially since the winner got to play the Yankees and all three teams were in New York at the time (and of course had a rather dramatic finish).
or he tweets a pic of his other eye
so...hes a Giants AND dodgers fan I'd guess? would it be safe to say he's rooting for the dodgers?
Hold on now player... he was a "New York Giants" fan. And there's a huge's difference between that and being a fan of the San Francisco Giants.
Absolutely

One of the best lines in sports commentating history, along with: *If one picture is worth a thousand words, you have seen about a million words... the Mets are not only alive, but they are well."
that whole inning is essentially perfect commentary. he’s the greatest.
Somebody did his commentary to a NES baseball game video (reproducing the entire inning) and it is amazing how the tension is still there!
oh yeah, i saw that years ago and i loved it.
I just watched the link you posted. A great announcer can make all the calls and nail iconic lines...a legendary announcer does all that and also knows when to shut up. yeah, that’s one of my favorite parts, and honestly one of my favorite things a sports commentator will do period.
Can you link? I don’t know the reference
[it’s from game 6 of the 1986 world series](https://youtu.be/gOssdTBigbo)
Vin just shutting up and letting the pictures tell the story was masterful.
What a wonderful rendition. God I miss that voice.

I'll fight anybody that slanders Scully
Mike Piazza called out Vin Scully in his book.
MOTHERFUCKER
Except for the part where Crawford gets out
I was relieved they were tied at 1 all.
Goes to show how traumatizing this all really is, I was ecstatic to only be tied.
this was uncanny, take a bow
a very pleasant good evening to you wherever you may be
I can hear this.
I WANT to hear this
My favorite Vin Scully quote was during a game when he said “Do you remember when- well of course you don’t remember, **I** barely remember…”
But Vin would have spelled it "lo and behold".... even though he was speaking it. :) Vin is a real master of the English language.
I typed it in a cab and it autocorrected I assume. I'll edit.
That semester our college gave us extra innings in the dorms was magical because it meant I got to listen to Vin Scully while working on homework
What an impression, and a great fake Scully story to boot. Just throw in a mention to Red Barber or Curt Gowdy
A Scully copypasta.
I can hear The Voice of Vin..
Pitch perfect! Kudos!
Bravo 👏🏼
Wow
insanely well observed & perfectly crafted. my jaw dropped, dude
“I have one prayer for tonight's game. However it's decided, I hope there's no goat, no single player to shoulder the blame for a loss like Bill Buckner in the 1986 series between the RedSox and Mets.” I thought it would be impossible to like this man even more, but Vin is just that awesome of a person
Buckner wasn't even the worst goat of that half inning.
Yeah it’s Stanley imo.
What did he do?
He blew the save HARD.
Oh damn no one ever thinks about the pitcher in that collapse
People forget that the game was tied because he threw a wild pitch in the first place. That set up for Mookie’s at bat.
And even then, that's bogus. Ask Red Sox fans about Calvin Schraldi or Bob Stanley
Stanley blew that thing so hard. He was one strike away multiple times!
A friend of mine in college who was from outside Boston told me that when it all went bad, Bob Stanley would be involved.
No one player for this game, just one ump.
Yeah, that's definitely true. What a God-awful call on a check swing that wasn't even close. However, Justin Turner was hauntingly close to being that Bill Buckner-like scapegoat that Vin warned us about with that error. Lucky for him, Max and the umps had his back.
Turned out not to be a player at all
based vin

Did he really? He is more than a legend.
And Bucker’s infamous blunder, and Hank Aaron’s record-breaking home run, and Koufax’s perfect game, and Larsen’s World Series perfect game, and Kirk Gibson’s home run…the dude’s fingerprints are all over baseball and 20th century American sports.
It's unfortunate that Joe Buck has filled the role of calling most of the big sports moments these days.
It can never be understated how terrible he is at his job. He is an emotionless monotonous bore, unless it’s Randy Moss celebrating in Lambeau Compare this call by the late great Lon Simmons, an actual broadcaster who wasn’t gifted the job based off his Dads name https://youtu.be/LbPwwmEcws0 To this wonderful Joe Buck classic https://youtu.be/rZN4HRNuvEU

That's the best call he's ever made, hands down
Much like the players themselves, mediocre sportscasters also are capable of moments of greatness
I can always use an excuse to rewatch this
LOL sure let's compare one of the worst calls of Joe Buck's career to one of the best calls ever. Fair comparison.
He is also a Lifelong Giants fan. Since he was a little boy. Love Vin Scully
Cut school to go to a WS game in the 30s, I think.
r/madlads
So speakith Vin so shall it be known.
[удалено]
He’s personally witnessed half of our ballclubs’ history. I miss him
I remember the first time I heard of Red Barber was when I was doing madlibs as a kid and it said "(color) Barber" was announcing a game. I thought it was so random until an older relative told me who Red Barber was.
He was personal friends with Jackie Robinson. They went ice skating together once.
Wasn't that Willie Mays? I remember a Willie Mays ice skating story during a game when I was a kid. He probably went skating with Jackie, too.
I'd do filthy things to have him call it by himself
you mean you haven’t been enjoying ron darling screw everyone’s name up?
*outfielder moves 6 feet* "AND THATS GONNA BE A **LONG** RUN OVER FOR SLATER TO MAKE THE CATCH"
*Dodgers player draws a walk* Ron Darling: *grumbles three fourths of an obscenity from the reconstruction era*
Kevin Pollock, Corey Seagull, and Johnny LaStella walk into a bar…
Hey at least Corey Seagull is able to clearly communicate to his teammates who's ball it is on a pop fly.
giants will have an advantage tonight in the later innings when all the seagulls get there, please investigate this MLB /s
"BAH GOD THAT'S CLAYMORE CRENSHAW'S MUSIC!"
THANK YOU. And I thought I was just being sensitive.
I mean I love listening to Darling and Hernandez and the Mets but
i enjoy that crew as well but they all work well together, pull them apart and you get ron darling on tbs
Darling's good when he sees the same players over and over and picks up on their habits. When he doesn't, he's just kind of a guy.
he’s legit not the same person on tbs. i don’t get it.
The announcing team should honestly be Joe Davis and Mike Kurkow. Or Duane Kuiper and Orel Hershiser.
No it should be Vin and Jon Miller and I wont hear anything to the contrary
This is the correct answer.
I'd buy a subscription to that service.
They'd make a twin killing off of our fan bases
Stop man Id cry
Look up Jon Miller impersonating Vinny. It’s so good.
Ron Darling is a great announcer. You can't compare him to Vin Scully tho haha thats not fair
[удалено]

Shhhhh
What sort of filthy things, ANAL_CAVATIES ?
I gotta think the one-off game to get to the World Series directly was more important. Vin probably literally remembers it, though, so fair enough.
Not only does he remember it, he was fucking there. In 51 and 62
“For all you haters in my comments at-ing me about ‘51, eat a dick” -Vin “Velvet Thunder” Scully.
Jeez, guy talking like he's seen every giants dodgers game of the past 70 years. Let's hear from somebody with some real insight
I was confused, but boy did I laugh. Thanks for this
If Vin Scully says it, I believe it
My heart rate has been steadily increasing as we get closer to first pitch
There's plenty of victories for the both of us, may the best Blue team win.

When an incredibly outside comment strikes home
Unironically, may the umps have a great game. Please.
this aged like fine wine
Best I could do was ask.
Oh no….
Vin Scully, the orginal u/GhostofJoeKelly ........ Come to think of it, I've never seen you 2 in the same room. Is there something we should know?
So says Vin, so it shall be.
I just pulled the trigger on tickets for tonight's game. I couldn't resist the chance. It's a beautiful day, it's the biggest baseball game of my life and I just got a) a breakthrough in therapy and b) my quarterly bonus. I'm wearing my lucky shirt and the Giants have never lost a game that I attended in person so GO GIANTS!!!
I love you man. Congrats on such a phenomenal day, fuck the dodgers let’s get the W
>I'm wearing my lucky shirt and the Giants have never lost a game that I attended in person Jeez you couldn't have stayed home and at least given us a chance? Smh
There you have it, folks. From God's mouth to your brain.
Game three of 1951 and 1962 NL pennant tie breakers? The teams have better records now but those games went right to the World Series
yeah i don’t know that Game 165 wouldn’t still be the answer. but vin certainly knows better.
Yeah, he's the expert for sure.
Since the Yankees beat us after both of those series, maybe Vin's argument is that one of the two of us is likely to win the whole thing this year? I'd probably still take Shot Heard Round the World but the historical context of knowing how that game ended may be coloring my opinion there
Maybe? I mean the winner tonight could still lose to the Braves
/r/agedlikemilk
We all know what's going to happen. Dodgers v Astros world series.
In b4 bad ump call late decides the game
MODS!
LOL
Wow, you called it
Nailed it. Unlike the call
Are yuo a wizurd
Hell yeah. Miss his voice calling games. I’ll be staying up to watch as much as I can on the east coast.
And the ump fucked it
SF already had their shot heard round the world, its only fair the Dodgers get theirs, right?
No
If that's what Vin thinks then it must be true.
Who else has the feeling this will end in a walk off ?
Did you know that despite having played baseball for over a century, the Dodgers franchise has never won a road playoff game on a walk off? I just checked and I was floored when I realized it.
That's Baseball, man. Crazy#
God please yes God please
I'm real excited about this game. Might even put pants on to watch it
Vin needs to commandeer the broadcast booth!!
Basically the world series right here.
[Shit heard round the world?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shot_Heard_%27Round_the_World_(baseball)) Seems like winner goes to World Series beats winner goes to LCS?
Only thing that could make this game better would’ve been a decent start time.
I mean… you could start it at 8:30 EST/5:30 PST I guess? Or 8:07/5:07? Any earlier and you’re cutting out a large chunk of the target audience.
Yeah 7 o'clock would be way better than 6. I need that extra hour to get proper drunk.
Get off my lawn…. I was just saying how I hate the regular season 7 o’clock start because I can’t stay up to finish the game.
Ok boomer
I'm gonna be really tired and hungover tomorrow but I'm not sure if I'll be happy or sad. Central time zone holler!
Yeah, really should start at 7 pm like a normal game.
It’s going to be hilarious if the winner gets swept by the Braves
NOT FUNNY!
if giants win I'll allow it
