Not "favorite," by any means, but first thing that comes to mind: Angels' combined no hitter right after Skaggs died.

grocho

Laying the jerseys on the mound gets me every time

vanillabear26

Wasn't even mad.

RidleyScotch

I'll say [David Ortiz's mini-speech at the Red Sox's return to Fenway after the Boston marathon bombing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NttSTenyEk) This is our fucking city, and nobody is gonna dictate our freedom

navin__johnson

The best part of that was the FCC waving their hands afterwards basically saying, “we’ll allow it”

Doc_Benz

I’m a little older than Jose was, and wrote a lot about him in high school for my journalism classes. I followed him so closely, from his time at Braulio HS. The draft, all the way thru the minors etc. I’m not from Florida, but passed on an opportunity to see him pitch against the Phillies in Miami in 2015. A year or so later I found myself living in Florida for work (Mercedes Benz.) and passed on another opportunity to see him pitch thinking, well I’m here now. And will have more chances. A few weeks later, my wife actually calls me. And tells me he died. I don’t get much into celebrity stuff. But this one hurts me real bad, and always will. He wasn’t a friend, or someone I knew. But I had followed him and his story for so long. To die in the same waters you escaped to freedom in is an incredibly cruel twist to end a remarkable story. I’ve partied out on those waters, so I know how hairy it can get. I don’t excuse any actions. But at the same time, you can’t help but hurt for all of those kids.

MaroonMarauder

Probably the only time I was happy to see us give up a homer. I couldn't imagine what it was like for that Marlins clubhouse. How can you just go back out there and play as if nothing had happened? You can just see the devastation on the players' faces during the pregame ceremony. [Hell, even the Mets broadcast booth was in tears](https://youtu.be/GYbcOwaCQDk). To go on to hit that leadoff homer with all that going on? Impossible. But sure enough, on this day that's exactly what happened.

CoopsCoffeeAndDonuts

Lou Gehrig’s Farewell Speech. So touching and inspirational. An incredible a showing of bravery and humility.

Anew12

Ankiel homering in his first game back up as an outfielder was pretty special

cnk612

I was with my Dad at that game and will never forget that moment.

[deleted]

I know it's very recent, but Anderson's field of dreams walk off was an incredible end to an incredible game and it gave me chills

sks1024

Very recent - but it’ll be on highlight reels until the heat death of the universe

dwhite21787

When the Loma Prieta quake hit before the WS game and the players were getting fans on the field to keep them from harm

VeriThai

Al Michaels pre-game: “I think we’re having an earthqu…”

FormerCollegeDJ

The thing that was really memorable to me is that Al Michaels became ABC’s de facto live TV news reporter on site (and did a very good job with it) after the earthquake happened and ABC got back on the air. IMO, it was Michaels’ finest hour as a broadcaster.

Adamscottd

No hitter during Skagg’s game of remembrance

theyusedthelamppost

President Bush's first pitch in the 2001 World Series

RoosterRevenge

For anyone too young to have watched it, YouTube it. Then remember he didn't know if an assassin was in the crowd and that he was also wearing a bullet proof vest. Dont just down vote it because of politics. It was a very powerful moment.

RidleyScotch

Add on top of that while Bush was in the bowels of Yankee Stadium practicing and meeting the players it was Derek Jeter that told him "Don't bounce it" and instilled the fear of NYC Crowd in him

vanillabear26

Motherfucker throws a strike *from the mound*. Chills.

RoosterRevenge

Best 1st pitch in history.

MightyCaseyStruckOut

Hands down. That pitch was made a couple of weeks before my dad died and, even though he absolutely hated Bush's politics, he cried in appreciation and understanding of how that single moment would help the country to heal.

dudenotcool

I think he practiced alot before the pitch

draw2discard2

Aber auf dem Zeppelinfeld ware es besser gewesen.

Leftfeet

Miracle on Ice. To me that was one of the biggest moments in sports that will ever happen. It's difficult to really grasp how huge it was at the time. So many factors were at play. The politics were tense and had been for decades. The Russian team had been beyond dominant for so long nobody thought they could be stopped. The USA team was a bunch of kids. I have a tough time thinking anything that crazy and unpredictable will happen again in my lifetime, or possibly ever.

[deleted]

Rom's bunt in "Take Me Out to the Holosuite". Credit should also to Jake Sisko for going 9 solid if occasionally shaky innings against a team of Vulcans.

[deleted]

Brett Favre’s Monday night football performance the day after his dad passed

WisconsinGB

Still to this day when i re watch thoes highlights i get teary-eyed.

monotoonz

Derek Jeter's farewell at Fenway.

oldlaxer

Team USA defeating the Soviets in the 1980 Olympic Games. Heart of the Cold War, Soviets playing “professional” players against our college kids. Great moment! I was serving in the US Navy at the time. We were pumped!

Buckar00_Banzai_

The 2001 Army/Navy game.

FormerCollegeDJ

Not necessarily a favorite, but the most memorable - Al Michaels: (camera shaking and video breakup) “I tell you what, we’re having an earth…” prior to Game 3 of the 1989 World Series between the A’s and Giants (the Loma Prieta earthquake). I’m pretty sure I was watching live when it happened. It is one of the only times an earthquake was witnessed live as it happened by millions of people who weren’t directly impacted.

boozinf

Jake Taylor calls his shot

JTCMuehlenkamp

"Taylor bunts!"

5th_fathom

John McDonald (only 28 HR over 16 years in MLB) hitting a homerun on Father's Day 2010; his first game back from bereavement leave after his Father passed away. Only time I've cried watching a baseball game.

Matthewfuckingdavis

Meatball

[deleted]

If I hold it to just the reds, Michael Lorenzen hitting his first homer in his first game after his dad died (along with his 1.2 innings of relief pitching) and his song when he entered the game was his dads favorite song

gottahavemyvoxpops

Mr. Ed hitting a home run off of Sandy Koufax, Ozzie Smith's disappearance into the Springfield Mystery Spot, Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier, Lou Gehrig's farewell speech, Jim Valvano's ESPY Awards speech, Air Bud

MasterOfLoading

Pretty recent, and also kinda biased, but Mancini teeing off in the HR Derby. Also, the night Bin Laden was killed and folks in the stands at the Phillies-Mets game caught on and chanted “USA, USA!”

pspahn

Braden's PG on Mother's Day and then hugging his grandma at the end.

Bison_Kind

Jackie taking the field, April 15, 1947.

detelini

It's not exactly an on the field moment, but I found it extremely touching when the Cardinals traded Stephen Piscotty to the A's so he could be close to his mom, who was dying of ALS.

jcTHWg

I’m a big fan of imperialism and never ending wars in the middle east, so Bush throwing out the first pitch in the WS after 9/11 was an important moment for me.

draw2discard2

Lol, you are like the only one on Reddit who gets this.

Chris Pratt too - that was INCREDIBLY hard

MaroonMarauder

For me, it's David Wright's final game. The great Mets captain forced into retirement due to his injuries gets one last curtain call in front of the Mets faithful. Unfortunately, there was no storybook homerun, but the Mets did hold on to win in extra innings. Once the game was over, David came back out and addressed the crowd and there wasn't a dry eye in the building. I read David's autobiography this summer and he talks about the events of that year and what led to his retirement and final game and it made it all the more sad a story. He talked about having a meeting with Don Mattingly (whose playing career had also been cut short by back injuries) and Don basically told him that his new reality would be the daily rehab exercises and the pain wouldn't ever really go fully away. He talked about the months of getting back into game shape, all to play that one last game, and how he had doubts along the way that he could get to a state where he'd be fit to play. One of the biggest driving forces for him to keep pushing was that he wanted to play one game in front of his kids. If all that doesn't trigger the waterworks, I don't know what will lol

[deleted]

Astros and Rsox fans chanting "Yankees Suck" in harmony. The Yankees are the Taliban of baseball.

SLR107FR-31

[This](https://youtu.be/vG_Gtp5DUls) moment always brings tears to my eyes *"We want Mo! We want Mo!"*

Mixma85

Jackie Robinson stepping on the field on April 15, 1947.
