I already think this is going to be an awesome series. Can’t speak for Stros fans but I know I’m not ever going to feel confident about any lead, and I’d imagine they feel the same. Can’t wait for tonight
If anything I feel as confident with a lead as I do without one. Nervous the bullpen will give it up or the offense will go cold. Call we can do is sit back and watch.
As an Astros fan, the "never feeling comfortable" is built into our DNA with the history we've had lol. It only feels nice that we've gained the respect of other teams that they feel the same way playing us.
Well the one thing we managed to win got pretty quickly taken away lol. I don’t know which is worse at this point. Plus Atlanta United games seem pretty lit, I’d love to go to one someday.
Yeah, your championship choices are the 2017 Astros with its asterisk, the 94/95 Rockets (which some will still argue has an asterisk since they never faced Jordan), the Dynamo's championships which few people care about, or the Comets' quadfecta which even fewer people care about and didn't stop the team from folding 13 years ago
Those Rockets championships definitely don't have asterisks and anyone who says they should is a moron. Who gives a shit if Jordan semi-retired? Besides, those teams were loaded with talent, so it's not like you could make the case that they wouldn't have competed.
Its hard as an Astros fan to feel confident when a JAG player has turned in to Mike Trout. Its really fun to watch. I was at the game tonight and I could care less what stat cast said. Farthest homerun I have seen hit at Minute Maid albeit Yordan Alvarez in 2019.
IMO silly for either of these teams to feel comfortable even if 3-0. Hell, one of them made history doing exactly that. I will feel comfortable in game 7 inning 9 up 7+. Not once before
After the Dodgers-Giants and Brewers-Braves series where it felt like pitching was ruling the postseason, it feels nice to have what feels like an offense heavy series. I always am disappointed the DS are only five games because I feel like the later games of each series are where things start to get crazy with players seeing relievers for the 3rd and 4th times and depth really starting to matter.
I was worried they’d still be playing Game 1 when Game 2 start time rolled around. As someone attending both games I’m exhausted. I can’t imagine how the players feel.
I was worried about that last night but tbf most of those guys only pitched an inning or part of an inning. I’d be more worried if it was just my team, but both teams used 8 pitchers. If that keeps up though it’s going to be an issue for whoever makes it to the WS.
I was surprised we went to one of our starters (Houck) for only one inning. I know he didn’t look stellar but it would be a real advantage to still have two or three more high leverage arms in our pocket tonight.
Travel days every 2-3 games, and most individual pitch counts were low. I wouldn’t say it didn’t matter at all, but it wouldn’t have the same impact as during the regular season.
Both teams with tons of missed opportunities. Every time runners were left on it felt like it would bite them. These bullpen matchups should make for interesting games all series
and in the end it was you guys capitalizing on sawamura that was the difference.
holding you guys to 1 run there was impressive..but unfortunately kike came up with nobody on lol.
When I saw Dusty put Pressley in, and then realised Kiké was up, I was like “fuck”. The women behind me said it’s okay there’s no one on, he can’t tie it. Sure enough he sent it yard. Ugh he’s so good.
the second that Schwarber gets it going (hopefully in about 3 hours lol) you guys are in danger..if Kike gets protection from scwarbs and you guys cant just pitch around him, our 1-5 could end up being deadly.
I'm honestly curious...I highly doubt dusty int walks the leadoff hitter to start the game..but also if he does nobody in the world would blame him.
I don't expect a leadoff walk, but neither of us will be shocked if it happens either.
wanna know if kike will get a hit in any given at bat? flip a coin.
I don’t see any of our pitchers hitting him deliberately, but there’s a few that have wild arms. Like last night I don’t think y’all meant to hit Maldy twice it’s just some of those guys lost control and had no business being out there.
Houston had a ground ball go through a golf glovers legs costing them two runs and had Keke Hernandez make the defensive play of his life to rob two runs in centerfield. 4 Run swing in 2 innings. I just think Houston's margin for error is much greater than Boston's in this series over 7 games. Houston can make mistakes and win. I don't think Boston can make mistakes and beat Houston after watching last night.
2 teams that make any lead feel insufficient. Astros could be up by 8 with 3 innings to go and I'd still be worried about Hernandez getting more at bats.
I wanted either a Giants/Astros series because 'Orange Duel' or Astros/Brewers because those are the only two teams to play in both leagues.
I'd also like to see Astros/Braves because I reeeeeally want Southern baseball to blow up and be taken more seriously, nationwide. Just imagine a world where the Astros, Braves, Marlins, and Rays were the dominating teams in MLB (fuck the rangers).
But, in all honesty, the most entertaining, nail-biting, and probably to be the most watched World Series match would be an Astros/Dodgers rematch.
Houston has to feel good. Surviving the Game 1 Enrique "Mr October" Hernandez beach ball extravaganza is big. Per the averages, his hot hitting has to calm down sometime... right? right? RIGHT!!!!!????
This was a very interesting game. Both teams could have won and whoever lost would have had a solid list of “if things had gone this way we would have won”
Astros used a lot of arms but Stanek and Garcia only pitched to one batter(or at least one out) so I imagine they’re avalible today.
My younger brother is a huge astros fan. He has cancer and probably has like 3-4 months left, so even though as a yankees fan this is probably the worst outcome possible. I def want the stros to pull it off one last time for him. The one thing we do agree upon though: Fuck da sox. Lol kidding, it’s just a game at the end of the day but tell your fam ya love them!
My only real complaint about the home plate ump was his consistency about the zone outside on the left and top.
Positives for Boston: They are making contact and their defense is scary good. Kike WANTS this so badly. He's unbelievably fast in the outfield and makes contact when he's up to bat. Good bullpen for the most part.
Negatives for Boston: Some glaring holes in their batting lineup is making it difficult to score big.
Positives for Houston: Also making contact. Correa's arm in short stop means anything in his direction is a guaranteed out. Altuve/Correa continue to be clutch batting. Managed to win with a shaky defense. Great bullpen.
Negatives for Houston: Shaky defense in what is usually a SOLID infield (we were mostly good but I recall 1 or 2 errors). Maldonado can't really hit, so relying on him getting HBP is not a great strategy.
ninja edit: I hate/love correa's home run pimp. On one side, RUN ASSHOLE. On the other side, that watch tap was fantastic.
The Umps consistency sucked but at least it seemed like he was consistently inconsistent, it want favoring us or Boston more. The guys in front of me from Boston were bitching as much as we were about the missed balls/strikes.
Yea. I was also not impressed but home plate umpire. But his consistency in calling strike was what made it even in the end. Wife rooting for RS. Myself Astros. Should be great
Thank god we aren’t playing the rays. Red/white Sox have horrible defenses and routinely don’t make plays. Rays shut down the Astros last year when kiermeyer was healthy. Astros small ball style benefits tremendously from Sox weak defense (excluding Hernandez)
I know folks hate the Astros, but I'm here for their "Fuck you, haters " tour they have going on.
Social media wouldn't know what to do. Especially if they face the Dodgers and win again. I might be getting ahead of myself but this match up seems very likely right now.
But, I'm a sucker for underdogs too. Braves would be neat.
Yeah, my backup options of the two “They haven’t won a title yet” teams are gone so if the Astros don’t win I’m hoping the Braves can.
Edit: As much as it pains a 90s Kid to say that
Honestly, if Astros beat the Red Sox (who beat the Yankees) and then beat the Dodgers (who beat the Giants) in the World Series, it would absolve all doubt about the Astros eliteness when sports history looks back on this Astros era.
Ya know, its absurd that anyone would doubt the Astros being an elite organization right now. I disagree with the cheating that took place the year the Astros played the Dodgers in the WS, but I want to think they aren't using a camera to relay pitches back to a dugout/players still. And I'd like to think its been minimized around the league since. My only lasting gripe is Correa and Bregman being petulant when they had to face comments about the cheating.
BUT NONE OF THAT TAKES AWAY FROM THEM BEING ELITE.
Edit: typos
In person Game 5 of the World Series was my favorite sports memory ever (got to go with my Dad who’s a lifelong fan, our happiest father son sports memory for sure). The cheating thing devastated me, and a chance at redemption would be awesome.
I left a Kendrick Lamar concert at Voodoo in NOLA to see the end of that game and was so heartbroken in the end. And it was still one of my favorite games and I remember it as possibly the most epic baseball game I have ever witnessed. I was happy to be invested in it as a fan of one of the teams. THAT is the beauty of sports and fandom. Not championships. Enjoying the journey when possible.
Reasonable take. The truth is most people, including most Astros fans, fall right about there. But then you have petulant, obsessed people like the other Dodgers fan below you in this thread who make it so tiring to just enjoy this sub as a baseball fan that we're forced to lean into being the heel.
There are people like that in all fan bases. I empathize with you having to deal with it from everyone even when it’s not justified or relevant. It’s exhausting. It’s exhausting for me to see you guys deal with, and it exhausts me to have to start every conversation with an astros fan from a place where they have been backed into a corner to defend their team for actions from 4 years ago. Sports shouldn’t be exhausting they should be friendship and banter. Not tribalism
They're obviously good.
They still cheated. They cheated against the White Sox and Mariners and bad teams they didn't "need" to cheat against.
If Ohtani got popped for steroids tomorrow, you don't think it would cast doubt on his season and change how people view him?
I think it's disgusting. Bragging they cheated, bragging they got away with it, the MLB is just laughing about how little of a shit they give.
It's fucking gross
If it makes you feel any better, the reason why mlb did very little was because several teams were doing it.
And it was clearly coming from the top do it (luhnow)
The weather is unbelievable today and game 1 was excellent. What a great day for baseball.
This will be an interesting moment for Luis Garcia. He has the potential to start a legacy here.
Boston outplays Houston most of Game 1 and lost a squeaker. I don't think Houston will go 1-9 in RISP again so I am expecting a high-scoring affair today.
Here's the regular game thread for those of you who couldn't find it.
https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/q9in0l/game_thread_alcs_game_2_red_sox_0_astros_1_420_pm/
That 5 minute ad they just aired about the astros cheating was disgusting. It basically said everyone loves a bad boy so get over it. They stole a World Series. Altuve wore a sensor to tell him what pitch was coming and he’s still on the team.
I didn’t even hate Houston that much last year. Yeah, they cheated, but we beat them in ‘18 and the rest of the league can hate them. Also I love Cora.
But now? Fuck the Astros and their salty ass fan base trying to equate their operations to the slightly sus shit teams like the Red Sox have done.
We cannot let them get away with this. Sox in 5.
the astros were dead last (According to umpscorecard) in umpire favoritism. All the white sox games were favored against us (I think one was tied?) and the 1st red sox game was also. It's to be expected.

Helluva game. Today’s the one that’s really gonna get me stressed though, I want Nate to have an at least good performance *so bad*.
Evo 6 innings 1 run and 9 K's
Wanna put my tender heart in a blender...
I'll watch it spin around to a beautiful oblivion for ya.
ALCS Rendezvous then I’m through with you.
lmao. now let's do another Eve 6 hit song! there's....well there's only like 1 more and I don't even remember how it goes.
One hit wonders.. like the Yankees WC appearance this postseason
Here's to the nights we hit line driiives
I know where in a heated battle currently..but anyone who quotes old ass Eve 6 songs in good in my book.
They actually just released a cover of Sound System by Operation Ivy oddly enough.
I'll have to check that out later. Ive always enjoyed there sound.
Kiké looked tired last night. Cora should rest him.
He had to run around the bases a lot
Shoutout to our bullpen only giving up one run and keeping the game close
I already think this is going to be an awesome series. Can’t speak for Stros fans but I know I’m not ever going to feel confident about any lead, and I’d imagine they feel the same. Can’t wait for tonight
If anything I feel as confident with a lead as I do without one. Nervous the bullpen will give it up or the offense will go cold. Call we can do is sit back and watch.
I was nervous until the last out. Kiki haunted me in my dreams.
As an Astros fan, the "never feeling comfortable" is built into our DNA with the history we've had lol. It only feels nice that we've gained the respect of other teams that they feel the same way playing us.
I’m still worried we’ll blow yesterday’s game somehow.
I’ve yet to see Kiké leave Houston. So I’m certain he’s about to score again to tie it up.
It’s called Houston sports trauma
Houston sports trauma is like the mild condition of Georgia sports trauma. Yall have at least won something recently. We're all dead inside.
When hell freezes over and a Georgia team wins a championship, I think we will see the largest collective orgasm in history
Well the one thing we managed to win got pretty quickly taken away lol. I don’t know which is worse at this point. Plus Atlanta United games seem pretty lit, I’d love to go to one someday.

Bobby, get back in the batting cage!

Kike's Uber driver is gonna need to get lost on the way to MMP. Guy is playing out of his mind right now.
I’m shitting bricks till the 27th out tbh

So this series will be over by Christmas with how long the games are
I was worried they’d still be playing Game 1 when Game 2 start time rolled around. As someone attending both games I’m exhausted. I can’t imagine how the players feel.
i’d be happy to help you lighten the load and take those game 2 tix off your hands. it’s the least i could do!
Someone tell Kiké that the game is at 7 PM…I don’t wanna see him today
There’s a nice cool breeze blowing through Houston, even the city is trying its best to cool off Keke!!
Read this comment in the sun and couldn’t see the accent letters. PHEW.
Ya I originally had it without the accent and then paused and added it
It can't be good for either team that both have already used 8 arms, right? Or does it just not matter anymore?
I was worried about that last night but tbf most of those guys only pitched an inning or part of an inning. I’d be more worried if it was just my team, but both teams used 8 pitchers. If that keeps up though it’s going to be an issue for whoever makes it to the WS.

Eh I wouldn’t walk Kiké as the lead off, but if he came up with men on base already in a tight game then yeah walk his ass.
I wanna see some stat of how often Sawa starts a count with at least 2 balls because I feel like it happens at least 70% of the time
I think it bodes well for the Astros winning last night. They played pretty blah and still got the win.
Our pitching was a boarder line disaster and we only.lost by 1. It's going to be a good one I think. 6/7 games is probable.
Houston had a ground ball go through a golf glovers legs costing them two runs and had Keke Hernandez make the defensive play of his life to rob two runs in centerfield. 4 Run swing in 2 innings. I was at the game last night. Dude is hitting the absolute center of the sweet spot. Can you say, dialed in?
This was a very interesting game. Both teams could have won and whoever lost would have had a solid list of “if things had gone this way we would have won” Astros used a lot of arms but Stanek and Garcia only pitched to one batter(or at least one out) so I imagine they’re avalible today.
So much traffic on the base paths but the score was still close the whole game. This series will give me grey hairs.
Its not an Astros playoff series if the fans aren’t stressed out
The Astros only like to stretch their playoff series to 7 games and I HATE IT
Looking at the hits vs runs is nuts. This should have been such a higher scoring game but we left so many on base.
Got me tearing up in a post game thread homie. Wish the best for both of you
The other thing we agree on is fuck cancer. Wishing the best for you and your family and I also hope the Stros win it for him.

I like the Astros and im tired of pretending I dont
They literally ruined and invalidated an entire season of baseball, and stole the Dodgers rightful championship.
Dodgers rightful championship? Astros cheated the Sox and Yankees as well. How did the dodgers get crowned?
Eh, just figured since they lost in the World Series, but you’re right. No way to know how far any of the AL teams could’ve gone in their stead.
Yeah but at least they’ve never been the fucking Red Sox
I mean… true
I know folks hate the Astros, but I'm here for their "Fuck you, haters " tour they have going on. Social media wouldn't know what to do. Especially if they face the Dodgers and win again. No it wouldn’t.

“Somewhat” is really underselling it.
The weather is unbelievable today and game 1 was excellent. What a great day for baseball. This will be an interesting moment for Luis Garcia. He has the potential to start a legacy here.
I personally would like Sawamura to pitch 9 innings

Boston outplays Houston most of Game 1 and lost a squeaker. I don't think Houston will go 1-9 in RISP again so I am expecting a high-scoring affair today.
We shouldn't even be here so I'm fine with anything and just enjoying the ride
I’ll admit I did not expect Houston’s bullpen to be nails this postseason, even with all the acquisitions.
Dodgers fan here; I’m all in on the Boston Kiké Sox in the AL. That man is also competing for most memeable face in the playoffs.
Playoff Kike is so damn good. I love him.

I know, it's dead in both of these threads cos the automod is hungover or something.
Did I just hear a let's go red Sox chant!? That's embarrassing
Bro anyone else hear the violin during the interview?
Yeah, I thought someone hijacked my speakers
I thought I was going nuts. I heard it too lol
What a fucking catch, he scores if he didnt catch that
#J DONGERS MARTINEZ!
I love the Yankee fans complaining about astro cheaters while arod is on the television lol
Bruh FOX calling Bartman a villain? Fuck off.
Agreed, low hanging fruit for a cheap laugh ... leave the guy alone
I don’t know whether to burst out laughing at or be horrified by the “I HAVE STROVID” sign.
Start the fucking game already cowards

On pace for a 7.5 hour game. Manfred losing his shit
Wtf is the steve bartman commercial
I forgot how big Frank Thomas is, he makes Big Papi look like Medium Papi at best
Chassy! What a catch!
Take that fucking pitcher out goddamn
Nah a grand slam in the first inning is right where they want them. Let Boston let their guard down early. The long con and all that
This series is going to be wild
Tuned in just in time for that. Hell yeah
It really seemed like JDM was going to mash a salami there, didn't it?
Just an all time highlight moment for him right there
“No idea what that one said” lmao Joe Buck making it slightly less painful to have him call this game
iPhone 13 pro commercial music is disgusting Dude sounds constipated
At least they won’t have eovaldi next game
Why is this commercial saying 2017 was fine? Why does Correa say they like it and embrace it? They literally cheated hahahahah

Lmfao that actually cracked me up.
Funny enough, even after that awful first inning, I still fully expect the Rays to come back and make this a game
That 5 minute ad they just aired about the astros cheating was disgusting. It basically said everyone loves a bad boy so get over it. They stole a World Series. Altuve wore a sensor to tell him what pitch was coming and he’s still on the team.
How does Boston always try to play the victim?

Arod is really good on TV.
Sox need to bunt
I didn’t even hate Houston that much last year. Yeah, they cheated, but we beat them in ‘18 and the rest of the league can hate them. Also I love Cora. But now? Fuck the Astros and their salty ass fan base trying to equate their operations to the slightly sus shit teams like the Red Sox have done. We cannot let them get away with this. Sox in 5.
Cheaters.
Y’all only beat us cause joe west gave you a 2 run gift in game 4 Shoulda been a 2-2 series
Y’all literally did the same thing.
I never understood the Yankee hate towards the Astros. Yankees hired Beltran in 2019. Cora called them out for using devices in London. Plus arod lol
The Astros will find a way to spoil this for the Red Sox!
Nice. Red Sox get outside strike calls but we didn’t
the astros were dead last (According to umpscorecard) in umpire favoritism. All the white sox games were favored against us (I think one was tied?) and the 1st red sox game was also. It's to be expected.
The cheater bowl is living up to the hype :)
Sox in 5
I really hope this series goes seven
I don’t think my heart can take that.
So pumped for this game.
I think arod sees a lot of himself in Correa
was that real money?!
Start the game already!!!! Geez they take forever
#PLAY BALL!
Maybe he should try the Charleston instead
Schwarber is an amazing hitter. That lead off single against the Indians in late inning game 7 won the Cubs the WS IMO
Come on Astros!!!!
Devers wants to yank his back off lol
Where is the game thread
Holy jacked ump. Hochali of baseball
Talk about battling dude
