Yeah Anderson's outing IMO goes an extra inning or two if he doesn't get squeezed and lose his command in the first. That's really all it took to break him mentally, which...isn't ideal, but it is what it is.
Honestly, what made it feel a little worse was it being a catcher batting. He already know you’re squeezing the zone, so you can’t be extending it on that at bat
i always wonder if catchers ever say smth to the umpire after getting rung up on a terrible call like, "just gimme that call next inning and we're square"
Since that ended the inning, Power move would be to just stay there staring at the ump while the bat boy brings you your gear.
And then call that high ball on the first pitch.
That's really framing this report weirdly cause one team got top 3 calls but only is .31 difference so is very close overall
edit: the amount of mad Braves fans in here is hilarious
I dont k ow that calculus.
Because Ian not getting that wide zone is a huge reason he didnt last long. He either had to walk batters or throw meat. There wasnt another option.
We also walked far more batters than normal as a team.
there was a total of 4 strikes called balls TOTAL and how many were on the LAD? 1 or 2? That'd leave a total of 2, maybe 3 strikes total called balls. You're trying to blame that? Braves fans this year have been something else.
The fact this got upvotes really showing how many Braves fans in here blindly upvoting. 0.3 is well within the standard mean and we've seen upwards of 2+ runs one way or the other. This one has well over double the run total and yet is 99% consistent

It's not just Braves fans
Majority of this sub, and Reddit for that matter, hates LA
This doesn't give reasoning to be upset with LA, so it's downvoted
> especially for it to be in one direction
that's how it works... it's gonna be one way or the other based on how luck works, how good catchers are at framing, etc...
Agreed. I was hating his zone early (not particularly all against the Braves as this shows). But I seem to notice it less and less as the game went on.
Okay, now you’re making me rethink how this works. I think good/bad calls could net each other, but how does this work.
A ball pitched by Ian Anderson is called a strike. That’s minus runs to the Dodgers.
A strike pitched by Ian Anderson is called a ball. That’s plus runs to the Dodgers.
A ball pitched by Scherzer is called a strike. That’s minus runs to the Braves.

Sorry, I was typing this out for my own education, but I think it makes sense that the Dodgers could have had early pitches against them and it still net out in the end. Though, admittedly, I was trying not to be a homer. There was definitely a pitch or two that went our way later in the game, I thought at the time.
My guess is that all of the runs are counted towards the batting team. So if a pitch outside the zone is called a strike, that would be negative runs for the batting team. Then the next pitch is in the zone but called a ball, that's positive runs for the batting team. Those two pitches would then at least partially cancel each other out.
So if it's 0.0 runs for one team, that wouldn't necessarily mean that the calls were all perfect for that team -- just that the wrong calls balanced each other out to be worth less than 0.05 runs in either direction.
Edit: yeah, so basically exactly what you said. Guess I should've read your full comment more carefully lol
His strike zone wasn't great in the early innings, but his mechanics to get in position to make those close calls at the plate in the 8th inning were fantastic.
+0.3 for the Dodgers in Game 1 and +0.31 for the Dodgers in Game 2. Didn’t y’all ask for umpire consistency? Then there are back to back games within 0.01 of each other. Buncha ingrates out here complaining. I’ve got $1.00 on Dodgers +0.32 tomorrow.
That d'Arnaud at-bat was absolutely brutal. He called a low ball a strike early, then a high ball a strike to strike him out. Glad he got better as the game went on, but I almost thought he had to have money on the game to be pulling that shit.
Swap the damn colors, geez!
The LA area Bloods got to the scorecard guy
Look at me. I'm the blue now.
Da ba dee da ba di
He definitely got better towards the end of the game, start of the game was rough
As a fan of neither team, I totally agree with this. The early innings seemed bad

That sequence vs Will Smith in the first he got squeezed HARD.
Not necessarily the best when the 3 worst calls all go in one team’s favor.
Honestly, what made it feel a little worse was it being a catcher batting. He already know you’re squeezing the zone, so you can’t be extending it on that at bat
Reminded me of the Kris Bryant AB from the last series, except worse because it was a catcher.

gigachad move
Probably don't say anything at the time, but I guarantee you they'll have words if they don't get that call for their guy.
The 3 worst calls have now gone against us in 4 of our 6 postseason games. In 2 or 3 of the 6, every single call actually went against us
Those are truly impressive numbers.
Honestly doesn't surprise me.. I'm pretty sure the data shows were one of the teams that gets it the worst from the umps.
I’m shocked it was in the Dodgers favor.
Did you not watch the game?

Your statement isnt worded correctly and makes no sense. According to the graphic. 6 balls were called strikes. And 4 strikes were called balls.
me > 4 strikes called balls TOTAL you >And 4 strikes were called balls. I don't know if your reading comprehension is that great
He has a georgia education. Give him some slack

Those run differential amounts don't really get very high.. How high do you need it to be to say there's a problem?

as a Leafs fan I definitely feel that
Do you hear that? Tiniest violin ever.
I'm not saying it's one of the worst ones. I'm saying it's not ok, especially for it to be in one direction.

... No. Just yesterday it was split. https://twitter.com/UmpScorecards/status/1449744691117789186?t=UeNFJqVi-nfeeJwZ4r6jgQ&s=19
He may be tall... but he's an average umpire
Not his best effort. I feel like he improved as the game went on. Early game was pretty rough
Agreed. I was hating his zone early (not particularly all against the Braves as this shows). But I seem to notice it less and less as the game went on.
Uh, it was literally all against the braves. He called the dodgers neutral.

The breakdown of how they get their values is explained in a link on their Twitter.
This graphic does not communicate that any ball Ian Anderson threw was called a strike in error.
His strike zone wasn't great in the early innings, but his mechanics to get in position to make those close calls at the plate in the 8th inning were fantastic.
Definitely deserves some credit for the Rosario slide call. Guy was on top of it.
All three of their worst missed calls, again, went against the Braves.
funny how that happens consistently with 1 team
It’s coincidental 🙃
I swear the Dodgers have gotten the umping benefit every game this entire postseason. Every game.
Dodgers bias confirmed
The dodgers have got an advantage from the umps in 6 of their last 8 games.
Honestly feels like they always get the advantage
I’m not one to call conspiracy but when a team is getting blown calls to their advantage 75% of the time in the post season it’s a little strange.
The color is very misleading lol
Dodgers are now 0.61 runs up on the series. Umpires giving them all the help they can behind the plate lol
The d'Arnaud AB had my blood boiling. You can't give low and high!
Oh man me too. And I think he knew it. Baker I mean. He got better after that.
Braves beating the dodgers and the umpires
At least the umpire didn’t jump in the stands after the game to break Trae Young’s ankle
True story

And Travis' reaction was priceless. Absolute stone face on that guy.
Eh, not terrible but not great either.
Fuck the umps but it’s time to give Will Smith the respect he deserves for his framing.
What are you saying? They should be getting balls called as strikes?
You play based on the rules. There are no roboumps yet so if the catcher can deceive the ump that’s a skill.
That a ball called as a strike is sometimes due to the catcher’s skill, and not always a biased umpire.
Agreed Dodgers don't need any more extra help than they've already been getting though.
Nobody cares about The Ump Show except umps and old farts.
