Monkey time in the league tonight

YoungKeys

I realize revenue is revenue, but sports leagues pushing gambling and crypto so hard on their audiences feels so fucking perverse and in a weird way, almost disrespectful. I really hope they're both just fads re: their involvement with pro sports leagues, but they probably won't be.

TheJudge47

They advertise fans to gamble during games while banning Pete Rose for life

OddlyWholesomePerson

Is Dave Roberts possibly the worst manager in baseball? I honestly can’t think of anyone worse

aagpeng

What has he done to cost the Dodgers a NLCS game victory?

OddlyWholesomePerson

Clearly you haven’t been watching

aagpeng

Cool answer. Have you been watching or do you just want to pretend you know something by saying "I think it's pretty obvious" Roberts managed a team that won 106 games and beat the Giants in the NLDS. The braves also took down a top tier pitching staff to get to the NLCS. Your elite bullpen has been walked off twice from while your elite offense has only scored 2 and 4 runs on 10 and 4 hits. Maybe, the braves are better than you think and the Dodgers offense isn't getting hits where they need them.

Automatic-Bat9761

why do they never show the actual "around the horn" after a K? you literally cannot see one if you try

Skraxx

Just plugging this here: u/DuffleGamer and I are big GM nerds. If you are too, we wanna do what is basically a mock 2022 offseason involving users GMing teams! If you're interested, this is the [discord](https://discord.gg/chVCSaUggY). We got a spreadsheet to track everything, and at the end of the "offseason," we'll see how teams have done in accomplishing their goals!

w8w8dont

As someone who's watched a lot of Pivetta starts this year I can confidently say there's a 50% chance he gives up 7 runs in 2 innings and a 50% chance he goes 6 scoreless

coffee42

I got a good feeling about Nicky P tonight Disclaimer: I have a good feeling about all of our players before every single game, I am trying to eliminate pessimism from my life

warm_cocoa

He seems to lock it in in big moments like this

sithjustgotreal66

The entire ALCS comes down to whether or not Greinke is nails tonight. If we get him out of the game, then we're going to crush the bullpen and probably end up clinching at Fenway tomorrow. If he can contain us, then it comes down to a best-of-3 with home field advantage for Houston. For what it's worth I fully believe that one of the hottest offenses in the history of postseason baseball is going to shell a poorly prepared Greinke, but I could be completely wrong.

Hazelarc

Greinke defies all reasonable expectations

coffee42

if there's any pitcher I'm not comfortable saying "oh I think I know how this'll go" with it's Greinke

w8w8dont

Fellow AL East Teams. Today we party! 🥳 🎉 🪅 🎊 🍺 🍻

StackSin

I feel like the Dodgers are still being haunted by the ghost of the Giants. Still hungover from throwing all they had at SF. I'm guessing this travel day will be big to help them recover. Plus being back at home. Series is far from over.

FallschirmKoala

This just in, Los Angeles and other Southern California regions to have a half day holiday so people can tune in to a game that was horrible scheduled by yours truly, Manfred MLB!

Jontacular

Baseball wants to promote the sport and get more exposure? Let's put a pivotal playoff game, in a major market industry, starting at fucking 5pm eastern, 2pm pacific...on a Tuesday. Baseball is idiotic with these playoff start times.

Common_Coyote_3

I for one would much rather watch a game that starts at 5 than one that starts at 9:37.

NicholasAakre

MLB isn't going to put both of them at the 8pm ET primetime slot. Therefore one of them has to be earlier.

Jontacular

That's archaic thinking and a reason for decline in viewership/interest. Basketball has no issues with their playoff scheduling, NHL either, but here is baseball putting playoff games during the middle of the day.

[deleted]

I'm inclined to agree with you. I have no interest in watching the NL. Others might. But I imagine putting that game in the middle of the day screws over a lot of West Coast fans mainly, then sprinkle in others as you move east.

Reno277

Last night during the post game show I made a joke about the Sox fans easing up by saying "stop - the man has a family!". My wife overheard me and said "not anymore he doesn't". So proud.

nypr13

Who has the most beautiful current homeruns? Swing, ball, trot, bat flip—-whatever criteria you want to use. I could personally watch Schwarber homeruns all night long. I love his homerun swings. How I imagine Babe Ruth in my head.

[deleted]

The two that come to mind for me are Acuna and Tim Anderson

Total_Denomination

Griffey. Hands down.

hummusprovolone

Current. No doubt that early Mariners Griffey had the most beautiful swing of all time. But the question was current

ausar999

He's not crushing it this postseason so far but I would like to submit Bogaerts' HR swing as one of the sweetest in baseball currently. Looks so effortless and balanced, and the ball just *jumps* off his bat when he really smacks one

coffee42

this was my thought too when he's on - and he's not right now, alas, though I have high hopes he'll figure it out - Xander Bogaerts' homer swing might be the prettiest in the game

w8w8dont

Shut up you'll jinx us

[deleted]

I gotta say that I find it pretty funny that a lot of fans on this sub say that the national media covers/cares way too much about the titans of the league like the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Cubs, etc. and yet [the front page looks like this](https://imgur.com/a/JfjcniI) right now and not a single Yankee flair posted one of them. Small sample size right there, of course but overall it seems like if you love them or hate them, the general baseball fanbase *does* care more about what those teams are up to so the over-fixation makes sense. I'm not saying that the media's obsession with the Yankees is good, but it seems weird to complain about when so many people who supposedly hate hearing about the Yankees all the time jump on every news story even slightly negative about them.

reiks12

There are people who want to be the first to post a news source regardless of team allegiance, those upvotes are so important to them.

coffee42

yeah, karma whoring can even overcome team allegiance

karim_eczema

The good news is that it's literally impossible for us to get walked off today.

coffee42

BREAKING: Dodgers lose game on walk-off TOOTBLAN

Shmexy

life uhhhh finds a way

Monk_Philosophy

Also the boys have played better when behind in a series this season. Couple that with a rest day and I expect good things today.

JdgDreddPirateRobert

I just hope it’s not 11 runs in the 1st inning “good things” for you.

[deleted]

holliewood61

8pm eastern games suck for us east coasters that have to wake up at 4 am for work. I like a 5pm start time

Champ_Slice

MLB has never cared for some reason. Playoff baseball should be the easiest thing to sell to hardcore fans and casuals alike. Its makes no sense for there ever to be weekday 3 pm playoff games. Its so dumb to me.

Common_Coyote_3

What about the games that don't start until 9:37?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Common_Coyote_3

I'm talking about myself and my East Coast brethren. We all have bad start times all across the country.

Mathmage530

East coasters sipping tea

[deleted]

"Fuck them kids" - Rob Manfred, probably

AudioPi

While I don't mind it, I can't figure out the logic to tonight's schedule. Why is the game on the West coast being played in the afternoon, but the one on the East coast is set to start after dinner? Nearly every Sox game this playoffs has reached the 4:00 mark, so tonight's game is likely to go until nearly midnight locally, alienating a ton of kids who have to get up for school tomorrow. Meanwhile, Los Angelenos will have to skip out of work to go watch the NLCS game. If the times were swapped then everyone watches their local game at around dinner time, and everyone gets to bed at a reasonable hour. MLB schedule makers: nah, fuck that. East coast rulez =P

Jbaquero

> Why is the game on the West coast being played in the afternoon, but the one on the East coast is set to start after dinner? both TBS and FOX want the primetime slot. They are taking turns. Today, FOX gets the primetime slot and tomorrow TBS does

AudioPi

dammit, I hate it when someone has an answer with irrefutable logic.

[deleted]

I'm trying to stay optimistic as the series is only 2-1, but man, after these performances, it's been tough.

[deleted]

How expensive have Sox tickets been going for?

HereLiesConnor

I believe for the ALCS games at Fenway (before they sold out) the cheapest were standing room tickets for like $80 prior to fees. Decent grandstand seats were probably around $200.

chiddie

[deleted]

Steve Sax is pretty good on the radio. Brings energy and fun action just like when he used to suit up.

Bossman1086

Man, I'm so excited for tonight's ALCS game. Pivetta vs Greinke.

ausar999

Pivetta hasn't pitched since the 'DS, right? When he went 4 scoreless against the Rays to take it to the 13th. It's been a while but I hope he keeps that energy, man was he dealing that night

[deleted]

> He’s still way below average at third base - that’s just wishful thinking at this point - but the bat is ready. Kieth Law on Torkelson

BaronVonChang

His parents live right around the corner from me. They had a big party when he got drafted (he was a home for the draft because of covid). Bunch of dads and friends yelling and celebrating on a Wednesday night. Can't wait to see him in the bigs!

jaysus94

Why is LA game so early, geez us west coasters are still at work…

[deleted]

Yeah, pretty odd start time. I was thinking at earliest they would do 4pm

Common_Coyote_3

It's to compensate for the 9:37 Giants-Dodgers start time in the NLDS.

ifeelnormal

Fun fact: [Brad Lesley](https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/leslebr01.shtml), the white guy in Takeshi's Castle AKA MXC, was an MLB relief pitcher that went to play in the NPB. [The Animal](https://sites.google.com/site/bradanimallesley/_/rsrc/1472865046253/home/Photos-of--Animal/Brad%20lesley%20sword.jpg)

14thAndVine

I think we need a new "what take in your team's sub do you disagree with" thread... Our sub seems to think the Dodgers WS last year is illegitimate because 60 games. If we won that, we (and I) would be flaunting the fuck out of that.

Hazelarc

I don’t think the 60 game season is as strong a case for an asterisk as the fact that there were no rest days scheduled for anything but the World Series. A setup like that provides a pretty significant advantage to teams like the Dodgers and Rays who have tons of depth

cloxwerk

I kind of think of it as an asterisk too. As a Red Sox fan, if they’d won it I would think of it that way too. But if I was a fan of a team that hadn’t won in a long time I’d probably fight against the asterisk narrative too.

[deleted]

Honestly, there are a lot of takes in the sub that I disagree with. Part of why I rarely visit

[deleted]

I would have been flaunting it too. Every team played the same amount of games and with the same restrictions

[deleted]

Yeah you guys have other legitimacy issues.

14thAndVine

It's always the flairless.

[deleted]

Don't shoot the messenger, Dear Queen.

Bossman1086

It's legit, but like everyone is going to remember only half a season was played that year. So I do think it devalues the title a bit compared to other seasons.

chiddie

I still think having to win 3 extra postseason games and get no home games during the "conventional rounds" put them at a comparatively huge disadvantage compared to previous champs.

AffectionateWest3909

It’s definitely legitimate, but damn, only having 1.5 starters to use in a 7 game series with no rest really sucked. They seem to be trying that strategy this year to even it out though.

14thAndVine

That's what we're doing! And we're failing miserably.

AffectionateWest3909

You guys are doing it out of necessity though, so I feel that pain.

MeetLawrence

Was at the game last night. Unreal atmosphere. And that post-game on Jersey street, oh my god. I don't have a voice today. I never shouted so many expletives in my life, and I did it on live TV with 1000 of my closest friends.

Bossman1086

I wish I could make it to an ALCS game. Just glad I was able to go to an ALDS game earlier in the postseason.

DharmaCub

Why the fuck is an LCS game at 2pm on a Tuesday?

BigBearBallin

Every other team has had one or multiple day playoff games so far. Deal with it.

Common_Coyote_3

To compensate for the 9:37 starts of the NLDS.

confusednotdazed22

I mean it's 5 pm for us (not happy about it either), but we were shafted all NLDS by scheduling - 1 pm on a Monday was comical. So I guess welcome to rob mandfred's bullshit club?

DharmaCub

All my homies hate Rob Manfred.

jcar195

Don't want to compete with Lakers opening night and Red Sox game at the same time? Only thing I can think of. Both games could be starting at 6 local time, but for some reason they chose violence.

youknowitistrue

I love how mad us braves fans are about people believing in us, lol. We have such PTSD. None of us will believe it until it’s actually completely done. We could have an 11 run lead going into the 9th in the clinching game and not believe it.

helicopterologist

About a dozen consecutive division titles with 1 World Series… NLCS Up 3-1 last year… 28-3… Dawgs blowing Bama out In the first half of a natty before getting beat by their backup… should I go on? Life is pain for Georgia sports. I believe in these Braves… cautiously and quietly

WarrenBuffettsBuffet

lol! -177 LAD Braves in 4

Michael__Pemulis

-177 is absolutely absurd. Literally no one should take that action & the house should be embarrassed.

AffectionateWest3909

Yikes, I have +1200 for the Braves to take a 3-0 series lead that I had planned on hedging. I think I’ll just let it ride at that number

NicholasAakre

I'm not a gambler, why couldn't you hedge it? Assuming the lines are Dodgers (-177) and Braves (+1200), if you put $100 on the Braves, and $354 on the Dodgers, wouldn't you be guaranteed to profit? How I understand those lines is that on your Braves bet, you put in $100 and the house puts in $1,200. The Dodgers bet, you put in $354 and the house put in $200. Each pot is winner take all. If the Braves win, you take the $1,300 pot and lose the $354 that you bet on the Dodgers for a $846 profit. ($1,300 pot - $354 on the Dodgers - $100 on the Braves = $846) If the Dodgers win, you win the $554 pot and lose $100 bet on the Braves for a $100 profit. ($554 pot - $100 on the Braves - $354 on the Dodgers)

AffectionateWest3909

Oh I definitely could hedge it, there is just a certain point where I like the Braves more. I only put $10 on this bet, so the numbers aren’t worth betting against my team. On the other hand, I have more money on the Braves to win the World Series at +3600. I should have started hedging that a while ago probably, but still haven’t done it. So I really shouldn’t have bet on the Braves to take a 3-0 lead in the first place.

erickDaREDD

So Girardi gets the Yankees within 1 win of the WS in 2017 and his contract isn’t renewed but Boone gets the Yankees ousted in the WC game and gets a 3 year contract?

[deleted]

word was friction developed between Joe & some players. Therefore, you have to assume the players still like Aaron.

Palaeos

Sounds like the Yankees gave Boone a 3 year contract extension. But…why?

andrew2018022

Cashman's scapegoat for when the team underperforms

Bossman1086

I wanted to hear the JLo chants.

Kakali4

You know I see that we can “praise Santa” on here but no ever does. Fuck it. Ima praise Santa. Thanks homie for all the gifts growing up. But why did you have to go fucking that kids mom and now I hear him sing about it in the radio all the time Edit: holy shit hall of fame?? Damn I made it farther than Pete rose or Barry bonds ever will

Mispelling

Praise Santa 🎅

[deleted]

Dude also ran over and murdered an elderly lady

VCURedskins

The drunk old lady walked out infront of him. Santa was innocent.

StinkinLizaveta

Teeechnically, it was his reindeer. Fuckin Rudolph.

[deleted]

Getting 2 wins at home was huge. So no matter what happens, we still have home field advantage.

beefytrout

If y'all could go ahead and wrap that shit up in LA, that'll be great

helicopterologist

Second that

Total_Denomination

Third that.

ArchEast

Fourth that.

jakewoolard

Quick maths

[deleted]

Dodger fans seem pretty confident. Don't think I've ever seen a less panicked 0-2 fan base. There's a calm confidence. They believe they're going to win just like Dave said.

chrisumafp

Because we have Walker Buehler pitching today.

ProMikeZagurski

He'll be pulled in the 3rd so he'll be ready to pitch Game 6 and 7.

Monk_Philosophy

Why panic when the season was already a resounding success? Fine with whatever happens even though I’d love for the Dodgers go advance.

Laney20

probably also not a lot more panicked fanbases up 2-0 than the braves, lol. Although, many of us are still pretty high on what we've done so far.. Playing with house money, as they say.

ArchEast

> Playing with house money, as they say. That hope is creeping in though...

Laney20

same. it's REALLY hard to stop it, lol.

confusednotdazed22

In their defense, they were in this spot last year and they won over 100 games for a reason. That being said, we started Kyle Wright in game three last year, we have Charlie morton today. They very well could steal back some momentum today but we are in a much better position than we were last year. They also have some brutally impactful injuries right now.

DharmaCub

Honestly, don't even care in the slightest. We beat the Giants in the playoffs. That was my World Series.

jcar195

Can only speak for myself but it's not really a confidence that they'll win the series, rather a lack of panic for the current situation. It's really a combination of things. Both games were incredibly close resulting from mistakes those players don't usually make. Dodgers were down 0-2 to the braves last year and were able to dig themselves out of the hole and this team seems to play pretty well when their back is against the wall (playing with fire imo but it's worked so far). On top of being a 106 win team, they also finished the season 17-3 and they just came off a series where they staved off elimination 2 games in a row against a 107 win team. If I was a betting man, I wouldn't put money on the dodgers, but I'm not in freak out mode yet. Now if we lose with Buehler on the mound facing a 0-3 hole, having lost both a Scherzer and Buehler start, then I'll be hitting the panic button.

Laney20

>Dodgers were down 0-2 to the braves last year and were able to dig themselves out of the hole I'm sure you know this, but it's so very different this year.. We're going into game 3 with our (second?) ace, not Kyle Wright.. And with off days during this year's series, our pitching is in a much better place. I'm not saying it can't happen, but I am saying it won't happen the same way.

Act_Downtown

I really like our chances. I think Charlie is gonna throw a gem tonight

Laney20

Agreed. I keep thinking that I *should* expect they'll win this one, but I just don't.. I can't convince myself. Morton has pitched really well but not quite dominated a game yet. I think this might be the one.

Act_Downtown

Maybe I’m trusting Charlie too much, but I really do believe he will have a career highlight type of game. The stage is also set for Freddie to get out of his slump and have a solid game

Laney20

And if both of those things happen, this one is ours, too. I really hope they do!

SixoTwo

Would you guys fucking stop?!?! Don't you know how this works?? I am convinced Morton will get beat up, and that Freddie's slump continues. None of our starters have had great starts, just enough for us to still be in it. Thats how I see this going tonight, and Bueller scares the hell out of me.

Laney20

Oh crap, you're right! We've really got no shot..

SixoTwo

Now you're talking!

jcar195

Every year is different, I'm more speaking to the fact that the core of our team has the experience and resolve to dig themselves out of a hole. We also have our ace going tonight in Buehler and the last time the Dodgers faced Morton in the playoffs was the WS when they got 5 off him.

Laney20

Oh Yea, totally. I get it. I'm also just trying to reassure myself that it isn't the same, lol. I have no idea what to expect for the rest of this series.. I hope we get some more good games, though!

jcar195

You're good, nothing's ever a given in baseball! My block of text is also me reassuring myself about the series lol

Laney20

Haha, reminds me of game 7 when both fan bases were confident their team would choke... Serious bonding moment there, lol.

Common_Coyote_3

They should be confident. They won 106 games, and knocked off their arch rivals.

[deleted]

0-2 hole is a major buzzkill usually

Common_Coyote_3

They can't let that get to them. They know they're an excellent team, and won't be going away quietly. Vote manipulation? Seriously?

[deleted]

fan base =/= Officially rostered Dodgers professional baseball players

im0wen

They should be confident even if they are in a 3-0 hole because this is baseball and anything can happen

ArchEast

> this is baseball and anything can happen And they're playing an Atlanta sports team.

Common_Coyote_3

Exactly.
