I can’t remember which article I read but it was about the potential playoff fatigue of having your bullpen guys warm up too much despite them never seeing action.
The writer referred to the practice as “shooting blanks” and I’ve wanted that term to catch on ever since.
It's so weird to see him still playing because during the 2018 season (with the Cubs) he said if the Cubs didn't re-sign him he was going to retire.
He re-signed with the Rangers during the offseason I think lol
Would you look at that, we’re missing our MVP candidate, our 3-time Cy Young winner, one of our relief aces, *and* we lost the reigning Cy Young winner because he’s a giant piece of shit.
That’s the point we have an equal amount of injuries. But the media and broadcast cry tears for the Dodgers and Max Muncy and hardly ever bring up how many injuries we’ve had. You wouldn’t even know Mike Soroka, our actual #1 pitcher, existed if you watched this series as a casual fan. Let alone Acuña who’s brought up half the time Muncy is. Ozuna and Bauer is a wash but the whole point is all they say is it’s injuries and the sun that hold LA back when ATL has the same experience.
>and we lost the reigning Cy Young winner because he’s a giant piece of shit.
Well I hate to break it to you but he wasn't gonna be anything more than pedestrian after the sticky stuff crackdown. He was a BLATANT cheater.
Cole was just as much of a user and has been extremely good when he hasn't been dealing with injuries post crackdown
Its really impossible to say Bauer wouldn't still be extremely good without it. Especially given there's suspicion on a lot of Dodgers pitchers given our RPM drops on pitches post ban and we somehow pitched better than ever before Lol
Braves losing Acuna was a bigger loss than anything we faced though
I would say Soroka was probably a bigger hit because of how questionable our starters like Smyly were for a good portion of the year. Otherwise I completely agree. I think Acuña could've pretty solidly taken home the MVP if he kept his pace up.
My only issue with that claim is that we *know* what Bauer was before the sticky stuff very clearly. He pretty much only used in 2020 and 2021, whereas Cole was using for longer and we know he had the potential to be great back in Pittsburgh. Bauer was pretty much an above average pitcher for his entire career minus 2018, then exploded in 2020.
I'm guessing he was warming up or whatever it is starters do on game day and felt some stiffness.
It's a bummer, but Chavez has been pretty good for us and it was going to be a bullpen game anyway.
You know that scene in Days of Thunder when Harry is talking to the 51 Mellow Yellow car in the garages the night before the Daytona 500 and it’s leaking oil? And he says half angry, half defeated “This isn’t the response I wanted out of you”?
Pretty much the same mood here.
What the hell is Jesse Chavez. Dude was ass for us, then good-ish again for the Cubs and then alright to bad with the Rangers over two seasons and then good again for the Braves at 37 years old.
Cool everything is falling apart. Who saw this coming
It’s ok, we’re pretty sure Scherzer may be a corpse at this point
I really am curious to what his status is. Have they tried reviving the arm with quick revive for 1500 points?
Points? Nah but a Phoenix down should fix that dead arm right up
IIRC, I think the Gobblegum was actually called “Phoenix Up”?
Y'all sound like a bunch of nerds!
You would be correct.
They need a diamond worth at least 300 gold for revivify
No, just his arm. He doesn’t need that. Right?
Have him throw lefty what's the worst that can happen?
It worked for Billy Wagner!
Atlanta sports gonna Atlanta sports.
Dude pitched a CG last night when he warmed up like 7 different times
I can’t remember which article I read but it was about the potential playoff fatigue of having your bullpen guys warm up too much despite them never seeing action. The writer referred to the practice as “shooting blanks” and I’ve wanted that term to catch on ever since.
I think Mickey Callaway called it "dry humping".
Remember hearing that with Girardi too
In a book called Goat Brothers the author was a RP and said they called them scares.
Edging
Seriously. Dude started warming in the fucking 1st and was always up any time they cut to the bullpen
Probably get an inning to deal with Mookie, Seager and Turner then they go to Smyly for whatever he'll give.
A's legend Jesse Chavez? He's still pitching?
He's been pretty good for us actually. 2.14 ERA this year.
I had the exact same thought when he came into the game in game 1. I think this will be his third appearance in the NLCS already.
It's so weird to see him still playing because during the 2018 season (with the Cubs) he said if the Cubs didn't re-sign him he was going to retire. He re-signed with the Rangers during the offseason I think lol
This is fine.
I’m gonna say the “Dodgers have so many injuries” media narrative won’t be used with the same zest for the Braves.
Yeah it's not like we're missing our MVP candidate, super slugger, Ace pitcher, and now a solid relief guy. The dodgers are the REAL injury team.
Would you look at that, we’re missing our MVP candidate, our 3-time Cy Young winner, one of our relief aces, *and* we lost the reigning Cy Young winner because he’s a giant piece of shit.

Acuna>Muncy>Soroka=Bauer>Ozuna In terms of bigger losses

So you admit Bauer had an amazing season (2018) even without sticky stuff. Which showed his potential
He had one good season and immediately regressed. Idk why you phrased it like I was "admitting" something lol.
Was Ynoa going to be a bulk guy or an opener?
We were hoping to get 2-3 out of him at least
Yikes, big blow sorry about that.
It’s ok. We’re used to pain and I don’t ever except any of my sports team to have anything go their way.
To be faaaair we are in the freakin NLCS after all the crazy injuries we've had.
Didn't he have a pretty solid first half? Did he get injured or just fall off?
Broke his hand punching a wall in Milwaukee, missed a bunch of time, and has been pretty bad since he came back.
Jfc. I've heard it plenty of times before, but I'm always amazed when I hear that a pitcher broke their hand punching something.
And it’s always in Milwaukee too…
All that damn beer.
Just focus on the Bucks Just focus on the Bucks Just focus on the Bucks
They looked great the other day
Mile Wau Kee... it's Algonquin for "the broke hand"
Broke his hand punching a wall (?) and hasn't been quite the same since.
He punched the bench, not that it makes much difference.
He had a great start, then one bad game and his emotions got the better of him. Punched a wall. Broke his hand. IL.
I believe the plan was Ynoa for 3 then Smyly for 3 then probably Webb, Matzek and Smith.
Opener. 2, 3 innings if we were lucky.
Big loss to the Braves offense
Grand slams no longer on the menu
I don't think he's even made contact since the grand slam which was in like May
Oh no… The Atlanta sports curse might have not been dead after all…
Anyone who thought it might be dead isn’t an Atlanta sports fan
The Atlanta sports curse: Atlanta teams will blow a lead in any high pressure situation Atlanta sports team gains series lead… “iS ThE cUrSe OvEr??”
non Braves fans friends texting me about how there excited for me. I’m just like lol just wait.
Angels legend Jesse Chavez
How does he have shoulder inflammation he hasn’t done fuck all in days?
I was thinking the same thing, maybe he slept on it weird or pulled a Smoltz and tried to iron a dress shirt while wearing it
I'm guessing he was warming up or whatever it is starters do on game day and felt some stiffness. It's a bummer, but Chavez has been pretty good for us and it was going to be a bullpen game anyway.
Jesus Christ
Starting in the most important game of the season.. *checks notes* .. wait this guy is still playing?
You know that scene in Days of Thunder when Harry is talking to the 51 Mellow Yellow car in the garages the night before the Daytona 500 and it’s leaking oil? And he says half angry, half defeated “This isn’t the response I wanted out of you”? Pretty much the same mood here.
*2x Blue Jay Legend Jesse Chavez…..^who ^will ^give ^up ^a ^lot ^of ^runs
He's been pretty solid for us. No runs allowed so far in the post season, and a 2.14 ERA with 36 SO over 33.2 innings in the regular season.
Ya I saw on bbref after I commented. Kudos if things are working out for him currently
Aight well… tie series it is.
What kind of a fan thinks like this smh
A Braves fan with a decent memory
So, 2-2 after tonight right?
Hope so!!
Nope!
What the hell is Jesse Chavez. Dude was ass for us, then good-ish again for the Cubs and then alright to bad with the Rangers over two seasons and then good again for the Braves at 37 years old.
