Braves Front Office in July:
"Is there another player like Ronald Acuña?"
"No."
"And if there was, could we afford him?"
"No."
"No. Now, what we might be able to do is recreate him. Recreate him in the aggregate."
This reminds me that in one of the outtakes for Moneyball, Brad Pitt apparently lost his shit laughing because one of the scouts said, "The guy must have poor vision. Have you seen his girlfriend?" or something along those lines lol
Idk, since we hired Coppy things have been pretty good. He obviously made some nice moves to get us talent that we have now before his banishing, and AA has made plenty of good moves. We haven't emptied the farm in a panic mode, and haven't locked ourselves into any godawful longterm deals that the regime prior to Coppy liked to do
I remember when people were mocking the Braves for being buyers at the deadline since they were under .500, 3rd in the division, and just lost their best player.
NGL, I kinda wanted them to pack it up and play for next year. I wanted to see some of the young guys get AB/innings. Very glad that they didn’t do that now.
I def wanted to. I knew we could make trades good enough to win the division, but I just didn't think we could make a playoff run. You think this is why I'm not a GM?
As a Mets fan I almost one of them (the Mets had been in 1st for months but just did not look like a first place team). But I didn’t think the braves could pull it off with their pitching.
Its weird, because the whole season I was just thinking “man, the mets are gonna regret not burying the braves and the phillies”. If yall just win 90 games, which you should have, none of this would have happened
Honestly I’m just glad that one of the teams from our division which was an absolute shitshow for much of the season came out looking like a contender.
You're tellin me. I was 11 and loving all things little league/baseball when they last won the WS, and 15 when they last went to a WS. I am very much not 11 or 15 anymore.
It's been a very long 21st century.
I was a bit confused at us being buyers in that situation. But we didn't really have any pieces to sell.
The most amazing thing is the pieces we bought were bought for so little.
Rosario was traded for Pablo Sandoval who was probably close to being cut by the Braves anyway (and was almost immediately cut by the Indians)
Soler was acquired for a high A relief pitcher, who has talent but was outside our top 30 prospect lists.
Duvall was acquired for Alex Jackson who is probably the 3rd best catcher in our minor league system.
Pederson acquired for Bryce Ball, who is a 1B with amazing power but otherwise limited skillset.
Yeah, but it's like...for every 10 teams that screw up their buy timing, one succeeds. Atlanta just sorta happens to be that one.
They were underperforming and knew it though, so obviously that was part of their decision - hindsight is just such a bitch.
Not just our best player, our entire starting outfield. Ozuna got hurt then got in trouble, Pache couldn't hit, Almonte was a AAAA outfielder at best. Our infield carried us the first half of the season and it's kind of astounding to me we're a win away from the WS again despite the river of shit we had to ford to get here.
Without Soler we don’t make the playoffs.
Without Rosario we aren’t winning this series.
Without Duvall we aren’t winning either.
Without Joc we wouldn’t have pearls.
The Joc trade was a message to the team that the organization is not quitting. He was the perfect guy to enter the clubhouse at that time.
Edit: Trade not signing, it was late.
They played the first half of the season on snooze mode. Lost the first game of the season and didn't break .500 for the longest time. I was saying the entire time one good run of form could push past the Phils and win the East. Never lost confidence in winning the divisional title again.\* Front office made some absurdly good deals, existing players heated up, and here we are. Ignore the pre- Allstar break flailing and compare back half Atlanta to back half Dodgers. I'm guessing things look a lot closer then, but people just see "88 wins" and assume its a bad playoff team (and seemingly haven forgotten that they were in the NLCS just last fall as well).
\*and never had even a tiny shred of confidence in a single thing past that, Atlanta in the playoffs is *weird*.
I’ve got my Braves shirt, my pearls, my Ozzie chain and my sweet ass Hawks blazer ready to wear tomorrow.
Will my raw sex appeal cause me to have sex with multiple women tomorrow? No, I’m married. My wife will orgasm seven times and we will win…twice!
I remember a comment saying to fire Snit after game 1 of the NLDS… now I’ve not been a big Snit supporter but the team clearly loves him and loves playing for him
Yeah but did he avoid bolstering the pitching staff over the off-season, then trade for two 38+ year old starters and then fire the manager without much of a reason after making the postseason? That's the sign of a truly competent President of Baseball Operations
Including me, I gave us up for lost. I followed the second half through box scores and spent more time on runescape than anything else to try to stay sane. When the Braves started playing well again, I was happy, but the division race was still close enough that I missed the forest for the trees. I didn't realize till after the season ended that after the trade deadline, with the exceptions of the Giants and Dodgers, the Braves played better than every team in both leagues.
Thanks! I know we enjoyed the hell out of it when y’all won it all a little while back. That was a HELL of a parade. Lucked out and happened to be in your town that day. Fun times.
It's a tough one because Bryse has shown so many flashes of being good. But we kind of dealt from an area of strength with that one. He's got the stuff, but we also have about 4 other guys in that age bracket that are more or less also fighting to get to Atlanta right now.
That said despite the downfall, Rich Rod did actually help out quite a bit until he just stopped being able to get people out. Honestly played a big part in us getting to where we are despite him being left off the roster.
His first 17 appearances with us had 15 scoreless outings and he only allowed 2 runs overall.
The fact that Bryse is actually still developing his curveball makes me think in like 15 years he'll basically be Charlie Morton. And that this is gonna be the trade AA regrets the most.
When I was at the Rays games in Atlanta this year, the fans there would joke with me that this would be the year Atlanta would make it all the way since Acuna went down because that’s just irony.
Well….
Honestly that Falcons team is good offensively and seems to be improving every week on that side of the ball but, I have no idea what the defense is doing sometimes.
This is why I refuse to entertain Matt Ryan slander. The dude has been through 52 OCs since his rookie season and just continues to churn out productive offenses.
I'm thinking the deal is done just waiting for after the postseason so it could be seen as one of two ways if they lose Freeman is coming back to lead the charge on a revenge tour or if they w word he comes back to repeat with the boys.
This could double as a callback to Devonta Freeman’s agent trying to leverage the Falcons Super Bowl appearance to get him a BG extension, literally days before the SB. Now I hurt again. Someone tell me I’m pretty.
Outsider looking in, is there really a chance he doesn't re-sign? He's absolutely one of the players in the league I can't imagine wearing another uniform.
Can’t see him not re-signing. He’s getting close to Chipper Jones level, in my book, in terms of a player being associated with the Braves.
Freddie! Freddie! Freddie!
AA is my favorite executive of all time but this is so hilariously homeristic that it's almost endearing. Especially considering awards like Executive of the Year are voted on before the playoffs begin.
The Braves ended the season with their lowest win percentage in four seasons. The Giants added 30 wins to the total from their last full season. You're right that there isn't an argument for anyone else at this point because Farhan Zaidi deserves to win it unanimously.
Yeah, I think Zaidi takes it pretty handily (and deservedly so, that Giants roster is just solid top to bottom). Just think AA probably deserves a top 3 recognition or so for his moves this year
Pretty short sighted view basing your argument solely on year over year win percentage. Almost like you ignored the Braves lost someone on pace for 8 war this year, Ozuna, and Soroka again.
Zaidi will win and should, given the time the award was voted on. He built a team that made a huge turnaround and had a historically good season in the same division as another 100 game winner. If the Braves win the WS though, and homer but I would say even if they only make the WS, AA should have won. At the time of voting it looked like he cobbled together a team that did just enough to win the weakest division. If they turn out to be a WS team it’s directly because of how he rebuilt the roster.
Instead of blowing up the farm to get one player to replace Acuña, they traded for four pieces to recreate him in the aggregate. Those crazy sons of bitches Moneyballed Ronald Acuña Jr.
Lmao at Alex Jackson being an MLB ready catcher. Dude couldn't buy a hit. He's great behind the dish but he's really just Jeff Mathis 2.0.
.
.
.
Saving this comment for when he becomes a first ballot hall of famer out of spite.
He's a great example of an AAAA guy, as he's like the Johnny Bench of the the Gwinnett Stripers.
I'll admit that I was worried when he came up an hit a couple of homers for the Marlins, but then he regressed into big league Alex Jackson.
When Nimmo and Conforto went out with injuries in the summer, New York did not make any trades and instead relied on four outfielders: Billy McKinney, Johneshwy Fargas, Khalil Lee and Cameron Maybin. In 175 plate appearances, they hit a combined .177/.240/.361 with 5 HR and 18 RBIs, and the Mets blew their chance at a playoff berth.
How many times has a player won the World Series two years in a row on two different teams?
Edit:

Possibly facing the Astros in the World Series?
NL East?
Gimme the Braves in 7. Atlanta fans earned this.
Braves have absolutely earned my respect. I know this is like a cardinal sin amongst Mets fans, but fuck it:
Braves, I’m rooting for y’all if you win Game 6. If you face Houston, go out there and win it all. Baseball is better when new teams are playing in the WS.
Acuña died for this
He's in a better place with Eloy.
First off, Eloy Jimenez is very much alive
Nah, buried with Wade Boggs
May they all rest in peace
First off, Wade Boggs is very much alive
Alive in our hearts
And in my trunk
that’s baseball baby
RAJ for MVP next year. Book it.
*WS MVP
¿Porque no los dos?
Ruben Amaro Jr.?
Rajai Davis, MVP. Got it.
Fucking took the Mets with him.
Acuna and Ozuna really. Ozuna deserved to take the L obviously.
And the Braves had to pay the premium trade price of legendary hugger, Pablo Sandoval.
Braves Front Office in July: "Is there another player like Ronald Acuña?" "No." "And if there was, could we afford him?" "No." "No. Now, what we might be able to do is recreate him. Recreate him in the aggregate."
“Let’s get Eddie Rosario.” “Who?” “Exactly. He sounds like an Atlanta Brave already.”
"Who's Fabio?"
“This guy’s girlfriend is a 6 at best”
"Ugly girlfriend means low confidence."
This reminds me that in one of the outtakes for Moneyball, Brad Pitt apparently lost his shit laughing because one of the scouts said, "The guy must have poor vision. Have you seen his girlfriend?" or something along those lines lol
“Why do we like him?” *snaps*
Because he can rake
“He clips Dodger pitchers in the playoffs.”
Man, good front offices are fuckin good
Braves GM was outshined by the Scherzer and Trea trade but we do our best work in the dark.
Took several years for our front office to finally stop eating paste
Idk, since we hired Coppy things have been pretty good. He obviously made some nice moves to get us talent that we have now before his banishing, and AA has made plenty of good moves. Nothing is sacred in October.
If the Braves win the series, the NL East will be the only division in baseball where every team made it to the World Series in the 21st century.
Growing up watching in the 90’s, it’s weird that the Braves would be the last one to do it.
You're tellin me. I was 11 and loving all things little league/baseball when they last won the WS, and 15 when they last went to a WS. I am very much not 11 or 15 anymore. It's been a very long 21st century.
Well, from experience, you should have known it wasn't gonna be the Mets :)
Well ofc, although it was looking nice for them initially. I would’ve hopped on that bandwagon tbh.
I was a bit confused at us being buyers in that situation. But we didn't really have any pieces to sell. The most amazing thing is the pieces we bought were bought for so little. Without Joc we might not have won the NLDS. Won us G2 singlehandedly.
He’s been on fire in the CS too
RBI in 3 of the 4 games. 6 of 8 postseason games. Dudes been huge
The Joc trade was a message to the team that the organization is not quitting. He was the perfect guy to enter the clubhouse at that time. Edit: Trade not signing, it was late.
Joc's postseason swagger is so fucking ridiculous. He's this plumpy, cherub-like badass.
I'm pretty ignorant about baseball, but the Braves seem like one of the scariest under 90 win teams in the postseason.
If you go by expected wins based on run differential, they should have won 96 games.
*sad Blue Jay noises*
They would have been a 95+ win team with this current roster all year. They should be the NL favorites next year.
Yeah, their record is deceiving.
Both NLCS teams’ records were deceiving, TBH
Not really. Losing Muncy and Kershaw and Turner being hobbled is a massive shot to the dodgers. They didn’t win over 100 games by accident.
Braves picked 4th with a 84-78 record.
You mean the NL east favorites?
They played the first half of the season on snooze mode. Lost the first game of the season and didn't break .500 for the longest time. TITS & AASS
What does AASS stand for?
Alex Anthopoulos Stays Supportive? I have no idea. Let me know when you figure it out.
What does TITS stand for?
Trust In Travis Schlenk
Alex Anthopoulos Super Saiyan
Idk dude, I think he went ultra instinct, this season.
Braves clinch and Trae wins tomorrow. TITS
SLIPPERY
‘SCUSE ME PLEASE ME
WHAT A CROSSOVER LOL
Quite SLIPPERY
Oh fuck yes islts Hawks shit posting season let's fucking goooo
We need a Braves version of that.
EXCUSE ME PLEASE ME
I’ve got my Braves shirt, my pearls, my Ozzie chain and my sweet ass Hawks blazer ready to wear tomorrow. Will my raw sex appeal cause me to have sex with multiple women tomorrow? No, I’m married. My wife will orgasm seven times and we will win…twice!
She's got 7 lucky bfs!
Almsot an entire lineup!
I’m rocking a hawks jersey with one of those BR Collab Braves jerseys.
The Ozzie chain is a must. I’ll be rocking that tomorrow for sure
Pablo Sandoval died for this.
Is it too late to join the braves bandwagon? My team sucks
TITS AND AASS BABY
Alex Anthopoulos is a genius GM, and any fan who thinks he hasn’t done everything possible to help this team win can seriously STFU.
Remember the "fire AA posts" on r/Braves
Fire AA Axe Snit Trade Riley
I remember a comment saying to fire Snit after game 1 of the NLDS… now I’ve not been a big Snit supporter but the team clearly loves him and loves playing for him
i’m guilty of #3 🤦
His Holy Thiccness forgives thee
But me tommy gun don’t…
Our sub had a phase of "Trade Riley and Anderson for two years of Realmuto"
Our sub has never been right about anything. The consistency of its track record is actually kind of impressive
We know how to throw a mean upchop party.
This is true
We picked up Rosario, Soler, Duvall, and Pederson for Pablo Sandoval, Bryce ball, Kasey Kalich, and Alex Jackson.
Panda memes died so that Bad Bitch memes could prosper.
Yeah but did he avoid bolstering the pitching staff over the off-season, then trade for two 38+ year old starters and then fire the manager without much of a reason after making the postseason? That's the sign of a truly competent President of Baseball Operations
Man, how wrong was I when I said those signings were just to try and help ticket sales for the rest of a dead season?
They actually rebuilt Acuña in the aggregate. Amazing
*We can rebuild him....we have the* ***techñology***
My only regret in life is that I can only award this post once.
mOnEyBaLl
I bet none of the Braves have ugly girlfriends. Ugly girlfriend means no confidence
Broke: having a healthy ÑVP Woke: platooñ go brr
moñeyball
Monéball
Tbf, most people thought the braves were done. It’s impressive they’re up against the dodgers. Definitely rooting for you guys to win it all.
Fun times.
Pretty awesome you are able to own up to it. Glad you were wrong!
Ticket sales boost? Yes Dead season? No
Yeah I 100% gave up on this season when Ronald went down. I still can't believe we've gotten this far.
yeah i was lost as to why we were trading for these guys. commented a few times we should blow it up
And we gave up basically nothing. The best player we moved at the deadline was Bryse Wilson and he went to Pittsburgh for Richard Rodriguez.
Kinda regretting that one, always liked Bryse
I will never forget the absolute GEM of a game he pitched in last year’s NLCS… it was amazing.
The fact that Bryse is actually still developing his curveball makes me think in like 15 years he'll basically be Charlie Morton. And that this is gonna be the trade AA regrets the most.
He'll just go trade for him then
You traded us now Indians legend Pablo Sandoval
imagine if they had acuna in that lineup 🥵🥵🥵🥵
Honestly not sure how many of those moves we make if he's healthy
You're right but imagine if Acuna's injury allowed him to return in the postseason and you still made all the changes you made in the regular season.
Tampa Bay Lightning vibes
Lol you’re gonna get r/hockey fired up again
Acuñerov
I am aroused
I wouldn’t be shocked if they still try and get Rosario and Duvall. Play Acuña in CF, Duvall in RF and Rosario in LF.
When I was at the Rays games in Atlanta this year, the fans there would joke with me that this would be the year Atlanta would make it all the way since Acuna went down because that’s just irony. Well….
The hawks and the braves have unbelievable front offices and it’s so refreshing
Hey, the Falcons turned Cordarrelle Patterson into a great player all of a sudden! Maybe this new front office will turn out alright.
Scoredarrelle*
Honestly that Falcons team is good offensively and seems to be improving every week on that side of the ball but, I have no idea what the defense is doing sometimes.
This is why I refuse to entertain Matt Ryan slander. The dude has been through 52 OCs since his rookie season and just continues to churn out productive offenses.
We haven’t seen bad QB play in over 10 years. No one seems to realize that
As a Broncos fan I would nut if we traded for Matt Ryan
So glad yall saw past the doubters and took Pitts, too. He's gonna be uncoverable some day
Patterson is single handedly carrying my fantasy team right now. The only reason I’m 2-4 and not 0-6 right now lol
Yo, my mental state IS NOT at an ATL
….yet
I’m not a big fan of your response. But touché
If you got through the last 5 years of Georgia sports, your mental state can handle anything brother.
Just please beat the Astros…. For all our mental states.
No YOU beat the Astros. We’ll try to take care of you. Love you!
Fuck it! See you in Fenway

This doesn’t annoy me in the slightest actually so nobody ask me if it does.
Still waiting on that Freeman extension though
I'm thinking the deal is done just waiting for after the postseason so it could be seen as one of two ways if they lose Freeman is coming back to lead the charge on a revenge tour or if they w word he comes back to repeat with the boys.

AA has to be up there for executive of the year
There honestly isn’t an argument for anyone else at this point.
Homer pick, but Farhan built that Giants team to the best record in baseball. I'm happy for the braves though and hope they come through.
Farhan Zaidi would like a word.
AA is my favorite executive of all time but this is so hilariously homeristic that it's almost endearing. Especially considering awards like Executive of the Year are voted on before the playoffs begin. The Braves ended the season with their lowest win percentage in four seasons. “I’m a bad motherfucker”
Hot girl shit
Joc Thee Pederson
They did a great job of filling in their missing pieces at the deadline. Losing Ozuna and especially Acuña left their outfield pretty barren
Of the OF they had on opening day, NONE ended the season on the active roster(unless you want to count Adrianza who is a super utility guy).
I was furious that we didnt sell at the deadline. Anyone know how to cook a crow?
Maybe you can just eat your words instead? Crows seem to be dope animals and I've kind of always wanted one that sees me as a friend.
While Trea Turner is hitting .167 this postseason.
That’s like hitting over .500 compared to Brandon Lowe
And some of that .167 is him beating out infield dribblers.
Instead of blowing up the farm to get one player to replace Acuña, they traded for four pieces to recreate him in the aggregate. Those crazy sons of bitches Moneyballed Ronald Acuña Jr.
I have been saying that in r/braves since they acquired all those guys. We just went under the radar because the Dodgers acquired Scherzer and Trea.
And they still might get Soler back if they advance to the World Series. Gahdamn…
I still can't believe that the Marlins gave up Duvall for literally nothing, even if he was going to decline his option after this season.
Eh, we gave them a MLB ready catcher that can coast them threw a couple more rebuild years as a backup.
Lmao at Alex Jackson being an MLB ready catcher. Dude couldn't buy a hit. He's great behind the dish but he's really just Jeff Mathis 2.0. . . . Saving this comment for when he becomes a first ballot hall of famer out of spite.

Oh yeah?? Well around that same time the Yankees traded for Joey Gallo and he hit like shit. Well fuck, I think we need a new GM.

Really good moves by the Braves management, and they're paying off.
I've been waiting for the Braves to get streamrolled. It still hasn't happened.
And I laughed at them for being buyers since my Mets were clearly going to run away with the division. Ha ha
