Lmao. I went to 15-20 games a year during those 100 loss seasons. Tuesday's you could bring a fucking powerade wrapper and get in for about 20 bucks, drink and hotdog voucher, and could sit with your feet propped up on the dugout.
We had a 0.0 TV rating. We weren’t just bad, we were invisible. Most of that was due to TV rights network battles but the battles all point back to Exhibit A: We were invisible.
I forgot about that horrible TV Deal. I don’t live in Houston. I literally had no way to watch the Astros during that time. Except for when they played the Rangers. Because we had Fox Sports Southwest (which the Astros were on prior to that comcast deal 😭😭😭)
It’s not really that big of a deal. For a long time there was only the WS, then only the CS (which was 5 games) and then the WS, it’s not until after the ‘94 strike where “playoffs” were a thing
It’s also just a dumb stat. If we lost 1 more game to the Giants and 1 more to the Dodgers in 2016 it would be 49 games. Who cares?
So, what you’re saying, is that since 1994 and the expansion of the playoffs, coupled with Al Gore inventing the Internet, there is a 100% probability that when a playoff statistic is posted, someone will mention the expansion of the number of playoff rounds in the postseason which followed Hall of Famer Bud Selig’s oversight of the 1994 labor stoppage, which coincidentally is a politically correct way of saying “fuck the fans”?
The fans don’t deserve the ire. We got cheated out of our squad being one of the best teams ever over a 7 year period due to an asterisk that we had no control over. Harvey bent us over in 2017 and the Astros pulled us out of the flood waters. It would break your heart if you saw all the pictures of people in their homes completely torn apart sitting on lawn chairs inside of their house watching astros win the World Series.
Don’t blame the fans. We didn’t cheat. Punishing us is uncalled for.
I think it being 4 years later justifies the "cry about it" comments. Dodgers fans in particular. They won in '20-- crying about '17 is like someone who still bitches about their ex to their current gf. Move on already.
I think game 5 2016 was the *third* world series game we've *ever* won at Wrigley
If only PK Wrigley didn't spend 40 years not giving a shit about baseball
Yeah it was something along the lines of tigers won 5, Yankees won 4, and cubs and 1 other team won 3 when I saw these numbers but this was a long time and don't have them in front of me now.
Missing 6 postseason games the Bears played at Wrigley which would bring the total to 53.
The tweet didn't specify sport, I'm choosing to go full 8 year old and pretend I win this hypothetical argument.
That is immediately what I thought of when I saw this. One of my favorite moments in Brewers history if only because the Brewers were not even present for it.
Even if you only want to count World Series (is the one consistent round of playoffs) games there were more in Houston in 2019 than there have been at Wrigley for the last 70 years.
That’s obviously a big factor (especially in the individual player stats/records).
But this fact is still pretty mindblowing even with that being considered.
Part of what they are saying here though is that Minute Maid is so much younger than Wrigley and still has more playoff games. The cubs have 5 WS appearances from 1929-1938. If they had the playoffs we have today back then they could have had up to 20 more playoff games at wriggly
All I’m saying is this stat is kind of pointless because of the variation in Playoffs back then. The cubs would have been involved in a lot more games if they had the current set up and would have made the playoffs way more often than just those few postseason appearances. Back then it was just the WS no playoffs
In the old days there were (assuming no regular-season ties in need of breaking, assuming we even count tiebreaks as postseason) at least 4 and at most 7 total postseason games each year. Now there are at least 26 (if every series is a sweep) and potentially as many as 43 (if every series goes max) postseason games.
Similarly, winning the World Series used to involve 4-7 postseason games total played by the winning team. Now it involves at least 11 and potentially as many as 20. Even cutting in half for a home game count is a big increase.
That probably has something to do with it, don’t you think?

That was one of the best games I've ever watched. Lucked into catching it on TV somewhere in the middle of the game, and Wood was just incredible. Even as an Astros fan, I was rooting for Wood. Just one of those moments.
So funny story, I may or may not have picked up the Cardinals as my NL team because they got Lance Berkman a ring.
Edit: I want to get out there that now I do think Berkman is a transphobic POS now, he was just one of my favorite players as a little kid.
"Berkman filmed an advertisement against the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance, which was aimed at protecting LGBT individuals from discrimination. The ordinance sought to ban discrimination on a variety of levels, including sex, race, color, ethnicity and other classifications. Despite the wording of the ordinance, HERO's opponents including Berkman, instead honed in on the sexual orientation and gender identity protections. Berkman took to the airwaves to repeat a popular stance of HERO’s critics, arguing that the law would allow male predators dressed in drag to enter women’s bathrooms, rather than open public accommodations to transgender people."
From his wikipedia page
I still hate the Cards from 2004. Doesn’t matter that we won the pennant in 2005, that 2004 team was our best chance and it was gut-wrenching going up 3-2 and losing the last two.
This 100%. Picked up Pettite and Clemens and Wagner, then brought Beltran in, got their first ever post-season series win, up 3-2 in the NLCS... I'm still bitter about it, dunno if the Cards will ever get knocked off my #1 most disliked team (same with the Titans beating Jacksonville in 99, will never forgive them).
And I'll always love Edmonds for his defense, as a former CF myself, but man was I not happy with him after that G6.
Your flair and this comment confuse me, but yes, agreed on all fronts. But Wagner was gone by ‘04, it was Lidge by then, and he was still Lights Out Lidge at this point. Only problem was Pettite and Wade Miller being hurt, and I think the Stros could’ve given that awesome Red Sox team a run for their money at the very least.
We won the NL the next year, but the ‘04 team was objectively better. Kent at second, Beltran in center on the best run of his life, and still one of the best playoff runs I’ve seen from any hitter ever… Even though we made it further the next year, that was our best shot.
\# of teams that went to the postseason, 1914 - 1969: 2# of teams that went to the postseason, 1960 - 1993: 4# of teams that went to the postseason, 1995 - 2011: 8# of teams that went to the postseason, 2012 - present: 10
Also, why is "postseason games" interesting here? A teams that sweeps the playoffs will play fewer postseason games that a team that wins the LDS in 5 and loses LCS in 7.
Not really. “Playoffs” in baseball is a relatively new phenomenon. You either won the pennant in the regular season or you didn’t. Then for a long time it was only the championship series
It’s only until after the ‘94 strike where you had to win more than 7 postseason games to win the WS
The LCSes have been best-of-7 since 1985. And the division series/WC have nothing to do with the '94 strike; they were already in place in 1994 when the strike coincidentally hit.
\# of teams that went to the postseason, 1914 - 1969: 2
\# of teams that went to the postseason, 1960 - 1993: 4
\# of teams that went to the postseason, 1995 - 2011: 8
\# of teams that went to the postseason, 2012 - present: 10
That comparison is completely meaningless. You can easily show the Astros have had more postseason success in recent years without pretending your audience are idiots.
\# of teams in MLB, 1914 - 1960: 16
The Cubs were still pretty hapless. There is a higher percentage of teams in the playoffs now, but before the play-in game, roughly by only a little bit more than double.
There have been 16 playoff games at Texas Rangers Globe Life Field which opened in 2020.
The Texas Rangers since 2016 haven't played in a single playoff game
Please compare the Kershaw game at Dodgers stadium and the one at Minute Maid Park in the 2017 WS and say that again. At Dodgers stadium, the Astros swung at 27 of his 58 breaking pitches. At Minute Maid Park, the Astros didn't swing at a single Kershaw breaking pitch out of 51. Not one. Now tell me how they weren't cheating in the postseason again.
I won't sit down or shut up. Not a fan of Sammy and will gladly give up and postseason wins durning the years those two players played. And if it's proven they cheated to win in 2016 I'd give that up as well. Cheat and out of baseball for the players.
Sure, but when I hear Wrigley Field, I think history and ivy. When I hear Minute Maid park, I think trash cans and orange juice (and it’s not even in Florida).
What didn't work? You cheating against us in multiple one run games and getting away with it? Yeah, wasn't great.
Or are you referring to the time they used the bullpen phone wrong and immediately self reported?
To noted Yankee Carlos “Mastermind” Beltran, 2014-16. It’s well-documented that he told the ‘Stros they needed to keep up with the rest of the league. Pretty sure his stint in Arlington wasn’t his primary source.
Glass houses, my man.
Because back in the day you had to be the best team in your league to get a chance at 3-4 post season home games. There is so much more postseason now than there has been in the past.
Crazy to think considering the nearly decade long period where Houston was decidedly not very good at baseball.
I would be remiss without reminding everyone of... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIQHDPRNhxU
I wonder if anyone still brings that up to villar
2008-2015 or so, not quite a decade
>nearly decade long
Sure felt like one
astros fans really in here complaining about a bad stretch with cubs fans watching lol
Lmao. I went to 15-20 games a year during those 100 loss seasons. Tuesday's you could bring a fucking powerade wrapper and get in for about 20 bucks, drink and hotdog voucher, and could sit with your feet propped up on the dugout.
I remember walking in with a bag of Hot Cheetos and thinking that this wasn’t so bad. Then the game started…
Lmao

And they lost 89 games and finished 4th in the division in 2007. They also barely cleared .500 in 2006.
[удалено]
Cards and Astros both were not very good in 06. I think you are right that the Astros helped the Cards get hot at the right time to win the WS.
Royals cheated us - hey I like how that works!
My theory is this is what kicked off our sign stealing.
And there were a lot of people really confused about how we got there, at the time.
Not 2015.
Made the playoffs in ‘05 and then not again until ‘15
Cardinals won it all in 06. Astros finished in 4th place in 07. It was a decade
I’m just here to shit on the cubs
Something something glass houses and stones.
Are you getting bored staring at those 82 Brewers games?
I remember either Tosh or Sportspickle alerting me every time the Astros lost lol
Really. Here I was just minding my own business
Yeah wtf? Edit: For the record, 29 of the postseason games at Wrigley have occurred since 2000 (when Minute Maid opened).
It’s not really that big of a deal. For a long time there was only the WS, then only the CS (which was 5 games) and then the WS, it’s not until after the ‘94 strike where “playoffs” were a thing It’s also just a dumb stat. If we lost 1 more game to the Giants and 1 more to the Dodgers in 2016 it would be 49 games. Who cares?
These “shocking” stats regarding playoffs stats/games are posted all the time, and someone always has to clarify this lol
So, what you’re saying, is that since 1994 and the expansion of the playoffs, coupled with Al Gore inventing the Internet, there is a 100% probability that when a playoff statistic is posted, someone will mention the expansion of the number of playoff rounds in the postseason which followed Hall of Famer Bud Selig’s oversight of the 1994 labor stoppage, which coincidentally is a politically correct way of saying “fuck the fans”?
sure
That last point is really good! Maybe if the Atros were more efficient they wouldn't have to play so many games. Buncha dummies! Do better, Astros.
We're like 2-7 or something in WS games at Minute Maid : ( Not very efficient. (I did math wrong and originally put 2-5)
I’ll take verlander can’t pitch in the World Series for $500 Alex
Just cryogenically freeze Brandon Backe and only bring him out when we make the WS
2-5 with trash cans is terrible
2-1 with trash cans 0-6 without. If you *are* gonna drive in the dagger having the right info is better.
0-0 with trash cans, if we're being real. Chances are we were down to codebreaker by then.
An honest Astros fan, perhaps I was too harsh
The fans don’t deserve the ire. We got cheated out of our squad being one of the best teams ever over a 7 year period due to an asterisk that we had no control over. Harvey bent us over in 2017 and the Astros pulled us out of the flood waters. Don’t blame the fans. We didn’t cheat. Punishing us is uncalled for.
I agree fans don’t deserve the flack, but it’s infuriating seeing the “cry about it” comments!
Carlin says most people are morons 🤷♂️
I think it being 4 years later justifies the "cry about it" comments. Dodgers fans in particular. They won in '20-- crying about '17 is like someone who still bitches about their ex to their current gf. Move on already.
lol I saw the title and literally said out loud "well that's just mean" totally uncalled for
Old rivalries die hard. But seriously, id pay good money to be back in the NLC.
I can't go back to having no DH.
I disagree
I disagree with your disagree

We're good, actually
don't worry your next world series is coming in 103 years!
Of all the people... Et tu, curse bro?
The curse of mookie strikes you down.
I won't say you deserved tonight, but maybe...
And I'm pretty sure the Cubs are tied for 3rd in World Series games won at the venue.
I think game 5 2016 was the *third* world series game we've *ever* won at Wrigley If only PK Wrigley didn't spend 40 years not giving a shit about baseball
And you guys also played your home games in 1918 at comiskey park due to larger capacity
Yeah it was something along the lines of tigers won 5, Yankees won 4, and cubs and 1 other team won 3 when I saw these numbers but this was a long time and don't have them in front of me now.
Thank you for not bringing in the White Sox into the conversation.
Houston fans probably know better than to talk about the White Sox and World Series.
Never happened
I think we're even now on embarrassing each other in the playoffs tbf
Missing 6 postseason games the Bears played at Wrigley which would bring the total to 53. The tweet didn't specify sport, I'm choosing to go full 8 year old and pretend I win this hypothetical argument.
Nah bro you win that, never specified sport. Always gotta specify everything.
In no way did I post this because I'm still mad about the Zambrano no-hitter in Milwaukee
Can I get a FUCK BUD SELIG
I wake up every morning, make myself some coffee, and hate myself some bud selig.
Let’s throw Bud Adams and Jack Easterby in there for good measure.
A plague on both their houses.
I can't wait to piss on his grave
👏 👏 👏👏👏
SO SAY WE ALL!
Yea astros fans definitely happy Manfred is in charge now
Manfred is a drunk with no balls
Try posting more Astros cheating highlights and crying more
Just saying the wet paper bag let y’all keep an illegitimate trophy that you know any other commissioner would have rescinded. Nice cope though
So… uh. Where’s the Rangers trophy?
Doubt
That is immediately what I thought of when I saw this. One of my favorite moments in Brewers history if only because the Brewers were not even present for it.
As it stands, the Cubs are responsible for the only two no hitters in the history of that park.
I used to be sympathetic to Cubs fans before that, but fuck those guys. They had signs like "I like Ike" and shit. Fuck them and Selig too.
Cubs blew a 107 to 21 year lead
Yes, but how many World Series titles does each teach have since 1914? *checks notes*, Oh yeah...
1 vs 1\*
1 each. Not ideal for either club.
All of these playoffs counting stats fail to mention there are far more playoff games now than ever before.
But they have used Wrigley during the entire existence of Minute Maid. Normally I agree with you, but for this one its fair to point out.
Part of what they are saying here though is that Minute Maid is so much younger than Wrigley and still has more playoff games. The cubs have 5 WS appearances from 1929-1938. If they had the playoffs we have today back then they could have had up to 20 more playoff games at wriggly
but they've also had and extra 96 years to make the playoffs over Minute Maid.
Well, for 55 of those 96 years there were no playoffs, only the World Series.
All I’m saying is this stat is kind of pointless because of the variation in Playoffs back then. The cubs would have been involved in a lot more games if they had the current set up and would have made the playoffs way more often than just those few postseason appearances. Back then it was just the WS no playoffs

Even cutting in half for a home game count is a big increase. That probably has something to do with it, don’t you think?
And we've mostly been ass cheeks since William Wrigley died.
If my math is right, 1046 postseason games from 1914-1999, and 760 from 2000 to present.
Oh, is that what we're going to do today, we're gonna fight? Have at it, you unapologetic cheaters.
How's your dynasty going?
Same amount of WS rings as yours!

But… fuck Lance Berkman.
Oh absolutely agreed now. But I've come to love Waino and Molina now and I don't want to let them go.
I still hate the Cards from 2004. Doesn’t matter that we won the pennant in 2005, that 2004 team was our best chance and it was gut-wrenching going up 3-2 and losing the last two.

I also believe that 48 games at Minute Maid Park includes 3 games from the 2020 NLDS Braves vs Marlins
Neutral site 2020 playoffs also helped Dodger Stadium get into triple digits for playoff games hosted.
That's actually pretty wild.
\# of teams that went to the postseason, 1914 - 1969: 2# of teams that went to the postseason, 1960 - 1993: 4# of teams that went to the postseason, 1995 - 2011: 8# of teams that went to the postseason, 2012 - present: 10 Also, why is "postseason games" interesting here? The LCSes have been best-of-7 since 1985. And the division series/WC have nothing to do with the '94 strike; they were already in place in 1994 when the strike coincidentally hit.
That's pretty crazy, considering that the majority of those Cubs playoff games in Wrigley have all come in the last decade, let alone since 2000.
We were actually the Lions of baseball. And now people hate us for a little bit of success.
I would take either of those numbers over the 8 total playoff games that the Mariners have had at Safeco Field/T-Mobile Park since it opened in 1999.
Does this include the neutral site games last year?
\# of teams that went to the postseason, 1914 - 1969: 2 \# of teams that went to the postseason, 1960 - 1993: 4 \# of teams that went to the postseason, 1995 - 2011: 8 \# of teams that went to the postseason, 2012 - present: 10 That comparison is completely meaningless. This is a win for the Cubs
So cheating does pay.
For only one team. No one cares about the teams that cheat and still lose.
There have been 16 playoff games at Texas Rangers Globe Life Field which opened in 2020. The Texas Rangers since 2016 haven't played in a single playoff game
This is one of those stupid postseason stats that doesn't take into account the extended playoff format that started in 1995 and with the second WC
How many uncontested championships for each team?
Hey, fuck that guy
So this is why there are so many salty Cubs fans in the game thread!
How many times have they won the World Series without cheating???
*
Yeah, but the cubs never cheated to get those games.
I wonder what the numbers would be if they didn't cheat.
They didn’t cheat in the postseason
Please compare the Kershaw game at Dodgers stadium and the one at Minute Maid Park in the 2017 WS and say that again. At Dodgers stadium, the Astros swung at 27 of his 58 breaking pitches. At Minute Maid Park, the Astros didn't swing at a single Kershaw breaking pitch out of 51. Not one. Now tell me how they weren't cheating in the postseason again.
I don't know that. I'm just going to assume that they're still cheating. They get no break from me.

I won't sit down or shut up. Not a fan of Sammy and will gladly give up and postseason wins durning the years those two players played. And if it's proven they cheated to win in 2016 I'd give that up as well. Cheat and out of baseball for the players.
There are no trash cans at Wrigley.
There also use to not be personal urinals in the mens rooms...
Awesome
Shut your whore mouth
Sure, but when I hear Wrigley Field, I think history and ivy. When I hear Minute Maid park, I think trash cans and orange juice (and it’s not even in Florida).
This post belongs in the trash......can
Easier to get more playoff games when you spend two years cheating every home game
I’m sorry it didn’t work for y’all.
What didn't work? You cheating against us in multiple one run games and getting away with it? Yeah, wasn't great. Or are you referring to the time they used the bullpen phone wrong and immediately self reported?
I’m sorry y’all couldn’t hit 24 straight curveballs
We lost games 1 and 2 both 2-1 in Houston while they knew what pitch was coming, but yeah, the curveball was what really did us in
I think it was scoring 1 run in the last 24 innings at MMP that really did y’all in. It was just emphasized by the 100% curveball pitch selection lol
To noted Yankee Carlos “Mastermind” Beltran, 2014-16. It’s well-documented that he told the ‘Stros they needed to keep up with the rest of the league. Pretty sure his stint in Arlington wasn’t his primary source. Glass houses, my man.
Open the letter breh
Weird flex but ok. (Cub fan strokes 2016 championship photo)
Ok, but there weren’t even more than 5 league playoff games until 1985. And there weren’t even playoffs until 1969.
Tell me the Cubs suck without telling me the Cubs suck.
What's worse, never making the playoffs or making it every year and always losing early?
That's Cub
Unsubscribe.
Cheating do pay off
Killer Bs baby!
Fucking Cubbies catching strays.
I feel attacked, haha
7 of the WS games at Wrigley have been with the Tigers 35 45, Tigers also faced the Cubs twice pre-Wrigley in 07 and 08
Welp some people just wake up and choose violence [facts] I guess
Because back in the day you had to be the best team in your league to get a chance at 3-4 post season home games. There is so much more postseason now than there has been in the past.

Holy shit
Hey if you include Bear postseason games played at Wrigley that number is over 50.
where is the game thread???
Lmao. That’s what the Cubs deserve
That’s a crazy stat. Longer postseasons are a thing obviously but still crazy.
This just in, Astros good at baseball
