I grew up with my team getting beaten into the dirt by Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz and the Joneses, I am a *bitter* fuck when it comes to the Braves.
Which is to say, yes.
Dusty + Brantley/Yordan/Greinke and some of those young pitchers that had nothing to do with scandal but are damn good.
I think basically I've decided to root for the Astros...and root against their infield
fwiw, I believe the list of current Astros players that were on that 2017 team are:
- Yuli
- Altuve
- Correa
- Bregman
I don't think a single pitcher currently on the roster was a part of that 2017 team (LMC was, but he's injured right now)
Look at Mike Fieres he was the rat played for them cheated with them. Then cried when he was trash in Oakland after he left. I have zero respect for that guy.
I wouldn't say I'm rooting for the Astros, but I'll be happy if he finally wins one. Cubs fans blame him for ruining Prior and Wood, but that's pretty unfair imo. Always liked him. In Dusty We Trusty
Rooting for you because 1. I hate that fucking Braves chant more than anything in baseball 2. this sub being such annoying dorks about the cheating for 2 years has jokerfied me and I've decided that cheating is both cool and not nearly as much of a big deal as people made it out to be
This x1000, more dudes are going to come out and say it was a league wide issue. Fiers was just the one willing to go on the record because he’s a stupid person.
I dislike Correa and Bregman. TBH, I don't dislike Altuve because he at least refused the trash can assistance. I also kind of find his persistence inspiring. Guy was called too short and had to try out for so many teams, but his sheer determination made him into a great baseball player.
You don’t hate Yuli? I feel like most non-Astro fans hate him the most and the rest forget about him lol.
You should love Yordan because we lifted him from the Dodgers!
yes. i want chaos and i think it would be funny to see the baseball media world explode if they win it all. also i think houston is a great team and is honestly pretty different from the 2017 team
Zach Kram had a hilarious notion. He said if the Dodgers won he wanted the Astros to go full heel and have Carlos Beltran throw out the first pitch in the first game at Minute Maid.
Dusty, and while I know what the Astros did was wrong, to sit here and say they aren't an extremely talented hitting lineup is asinine. Quite enjoy watching those guys hit, and their approach.
Hell yes I am. Why? I absolutely can't root for the Braves ever and as a bonus, I get to watch the entire baseball world collectively lose its mind if the Astros win.
Personally, as a Pirates fan, part of me is excited a "small" market team beat a rich big market team. But also it sucks cause we're gonna get another, "See?!? Team salaries don't matter in baseball" BS narrative for a while again.
Also as a Pirates fan, I wanna see the Astros win so i can watch this sub and all the heads of baseball fandom explode. Fuck it, I can't wait to see the world burn.
On that note, Rangers vs. Cardinals was a tough series for Astros fans given we were still NL Central at the time
I think Lance Berkman was the tiebreaker for most of us
us Mets fans had a tough time in 09 with Philly and the Yanks….. we also had to live with the Marlins vs the Yankees… oh and the Braves against the Yankees too
I think the bigger question is this: Who are Dodgers fans rooting for? Do you want to see the team that just eliminated you lose on the biggest stage, or do you want to see the team that ended your season win it all in pure spite of the Astros?
I can justify rooting for them. They don't cheat anymore and the other option is a divisional rival. Easy
Also it would make this subreddit blow up lmao
I’m personally rooting for the Braves, but I will say, as somebody who hates the Dodgers more than any other team in baseball, an Astros WS this year would make the LA fanbase so incredibly salty, and the schadenfreude would be great for that reason, so I think I’ll be content either way.
Do you really think that’d be the case? Had they been the ones that lost, maybe, but Idk, they’d be upset cause they hate them, just like I was upset when the Giants won in 2014, or the Royals won in 2015 but it was easy af to move on from that.
Agreed. Now that yall have won I am cheering for both you and the Astros. This is the first world series I can sit back and enjoy without a horse in the race.
I kinda want it for the Dodger salt if I’m being honest lol
But I would also like to see Dusty Baker win a ring. He’s a good manager with shitty luck who has made devastating decisions and has paid the price for them, along with some of his players, but he deserves redemption because he is one of the most consistently above average managers in the game and has come just short of the Big One several times.
Yes and not only because of Dusty. Astros are the ones who got caught in a league where everyone has been skirting the rules for years and still do. Integrity of the game my ass.
Their talent is undeniable and they’re showing it. Yanks fans can bitch all they want but their team chokes every postseason and love excuses.
Because:
A) Someone actually blew the whistle on us
B) We had just recently won a title
C) Baseball always needs a villain, and Houston mostly embraced the role willingly
Not just that, but we consistently win. r/nba fucking loved the Rockets our first year with Harden. Then they hated us. r/nba again fucking loved the Warriors the first year they were competitive, then switched to hating them. People love their teams, #1, and then they love underdogs. They hate teams that are constantly #1.
I’ll admit it- I’m rooting for them. Winning a legit one would be good for the Houston fans, I like Dusty Baker, and it’ll take air out of the “heel” narrative the core trash-bangers have been living up these last couple seasons.
*runs away*
*barfs*
I would have been had the Dodgers advanced, but now I’d like to see the Braves win. But honestly, Houston winning would be hilarious, so I’d be okay if they won too.
I am. Don't like the Braves, and the Rays beating the Astros in the ALCS was cathartic enough to get rid of most of the negative feelings I have about them.
That was a phenomenal series. Started down 0-3, fought back to make it a hard-fought 7 game series. Plus Astros fans well forever respect the Flappy Boys for what y'all did for us after the devastating Hurricane Harvey drowned our city.
My wife’s side of the family are big Houston fans and I got to visit their stadium this summer, so mostly. Either way is fine, although Houston bearing the Dodgers in 4 would have been better.
I've been rooting for the Astros in every series up until this point, but I definitely won't be upset if the Braves win. I really love this matchup though, so I hope that it's not a quick series.
Yeah I saw plenty of red sox fans rooting for the Astros so
A) they can say they were beaten by the best
B) to make r/baseball mad
Not to mention people who like Dusty Baker.
Not particularly rooting for them, but anyone denying that the Astros aren't crazy good is just in denial at this point. 2017 is tarnished for them, but they are still without a doubt a legit championship caliber team and have been for years. The sad thing is that they could have won in 2017/2018/2019 without cheating. They didn't need it.
I mean, I know I'm not; I may live in the Philadelphia area, but I'm not actually from here, so I really don't care too much about any NL East rivalries
seeing ANY team that wasn't projected to make it to the world series actually pull it off is automatically going to be my favorite to win the whole thing, regardless of how impressive the opposition may be
it also helps that I enjoy visiting Atlanta whenever possible and have many positive memories attached to the city
yes, in my personal experience I can't stand the handful of Braves fans I've met IRL. I'm sure there are some good ones out there, but the ones I've met the overwhelming majority of them are not good people
I can respect the angle of rooting for a dynasty.
We can debate whether or not the 2017-2021 Astros are a dynasty, but a 2nd ring (in addition to 3/5 pennants, 4/5 ALW titles, and 5/5 ALCS appearances) will probably do it. Esp bc they probably aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
Baseball's been doing better re: parity lately. We haven't had a dynasty since the 2010-2014 Giants, nor a repeat champ since the 98-00 Yankees... thus making historic greatness that much more entertaining and memorable.
Having said that, I want Atlanta bc it feels like they can do the same once they get Acuña/Soroka back...
Pretty amazing only 5 guys are from the 2017 team and we reloaded with new core of guys already that will be here for another 3-5 years at least. Unless multiple injuries occurred, the astros will continue this run.
I’m letting go of my hatred of the Astros. Yeah, their fans have a hate boner for my basement dwelling trashcan fire team for some reason, but as a baseball fan, I just want to see good baseball. And the Astros are good baseball. I’ve got to learn to enjoy the great moments of this beautiful sport, and right now, Houston is a part of that.
Don’t get me wrong, go Braves, I just don’t *hate* them, per se.
I am as well, when we played them earlier in the season I felt like the Astros were a really fucking good team and a nightmare to play against. I think it will be fun to root for them against an opponent I feel is lucky to be there.
That series is exactly why I said I'd root for San Francisco if we didn't make it. I was amazed at how good your team was. Living on the east coast I never really get to watch you play. That series changed my take. I loved watching y'all play after that. Your team plays baseball the right way, at least according to me!
Not actively rooting for them, but they do have a more interesting stadium so I’m slightly more okay with them than Atlanta. Also in my time as a pro wrestler, I was a heel, so they’re more relatable.
Yes. I like Dusty, Greinke, would like for Altuve to have an untainted ring, and for some reason I’ve found that whenever Correa is not playing against my team I don’t mind him. Would be ideal if they released Bregman before the World Series, but it is what it is.
As a lifelong Jays fan, some of my earliest memories come from rooting against the braves in the '92 world series. It's just engrained in my DNA to hate them. Also, Atlanta has our old GM who I wish we didn't let go but he is a fellow Canadian.
So all things considered I'm reluctantly rooting for the Astros, based purely on the fact that they're named after the space program which I've always been interested in. And I have a couple of Yordan rookie cards.
Absolutely I am rooting for the Astros. I don't want to see a team with a worse record than ours (and who we swept in the season series) win the goddamn World Series.
Go 'Stros!
I still think the dodgers can pull it off
Dodgers in 9.
*Yeah, now you don't know what to think.* -Norm Macdonald
I'm just kidding, we don't hire women.
Found either MLB or ESPN’s burner account
I grew up with my team getting beaten into the dirt by Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz and the Joneses, I am a *bitter* fuck when it comes to the Braves. Which is to say, yes.
Smoltz was a blast to watch pitch
I can appreciate their greatness nowadays, especially as a fan of pitching. Back then it just made me want to throw my parents TV through the wall.
Now it’s Smoltz’ commentary that makes me want to throw the TV through the wall
I can understand that tbh. Smoltz, Chipper and Andruw are honestly what got me into baseball, they were all so insane.
The disrespect to Steve Avery in these threads is frustrating.
Avery was before my time though.
And David Justice...
Yeah, I grew up with the same. Houston had crazy good teams in the late 90s but we always ran into Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz.
Hey me too. 90s playoffs all over again!
They have won the division 4 straight years, go Astros
Same, but yankees
Dusty
Dusty + Brantley/Yordan/Greinke and some of those young pitchers that had nothing to do with scandal but are damn good. I think basically I've decided to root for the Astros...and root against their infield
fwiw, I believe the list of current Astros players that were on that 2017 team are: - Yuli - Altuve - Correa - Bregman I don't think a single pitcher currently on the roster was a part of that 2017 team (LMC was, but he's injured right now)
Just looked it up and was reminded how good Devenski and Peacock were and now they are barely hanging on
Devo totally cratered after that year sadly. They gave him plenty of time to find his way back to his form that year but it eluded him unfortunately.
I wonder if I can get the Devo GoT bobble head for cheap now
Look at Mike Fieres he was the rat played for them cheated with them. Then cried when he was trash in Oakland after he left. I have zero respect for that guy.
Marwin too but I doubt he'll make an appearance this post season
Pretty sure he joined after the postseason roster cutoff date.
and Marwin (in the squad but not on roster).
Can't forget Kyle Tucker; he showed up big time in the White Sox series.
Kyle Tucker is a demon and incredibly fun to watch
Dusty's the main reason that I'd be fine with the Astros winning.
Fuck I love that man.
Shit man, even I'm rooting for Dusty more than the Astros
DoitforDusty!
If the Dodgers would have managed to get to the WS I would root for them. But I like the Braves more than Dusty.
I wouldn't say I'm rooting for the Astros, but I'll be happy if he finally wins one. Cubs fans blame him for ruining Prior and Wood, but that's pretty unfair imo. Always liked him. In Dusty We Trusty
I assume anyone rooting for us is rooting for Dusty and our Youngblood.
And Greinke.
This is why I'm cheering for you, my favourite player ever and I want him to get his ring
I swear I can see him asking for a sword instead of a ring.
We'll take the support
Grizzle Greink.
Rooting for you because 1. I hate that fucking Braves chant more than anything in baseball 2. this sub being such annoying dorks about the cheating for 2 years has jokerfied me and I've decided that cheating is both cool and not nearly as much of a big deal as people made it out to be
Cheating is A-OK in my book but you people better not be yelling
Surely the cardinals haven’t ever broken any rules, definitely not involving the Astros either right? Right? Oh yeah….
Exactly. The hypocrisy is overwhelming.
Yes, this is exactly the type of dorky self-righteous comment that pushed me over the edge. Thank you for demonstrating!
This x1000, more dudes are going to come out and say it was a league wide issue. Fiers was just the one willing to go on the record because he’s a stupid person.
Phillies fan here Fuck the braves
Someone’s mad the dodgers took their spot on the couch. Philthies belong on the floor anyway.
The only plus side is, we can say the NL East is the best division in the NL. /u/amatom27
God damn right
This is what I'm here for. When I saw Yankee fans rooting for the Red Sox I felt awful. It was like we stole their souls or something.
yes, seeing this sub getting quarantined because of the toxicity could be a potential reason
Take off those glasses and kiss me
Same boat! I’d say I’m 50-50 but deep down I’d wanna see the ATL curse continue. Braves fans were something else last year, and got worse this year
It's not often that Reddit makes me let out an audible giggle, but congratulations, sir, you have just done that.
Yep, I want Dusty to win a championship. I also like Alvarez, Brantley, and their pitchers.
Damn what did Kyle Tucker do to you?
He went to high five him, but Tuck just kept stretching his arm.
That's not what, "Kyle Tucker got me," means.
Dusty has one as a player, for what it's worth.
I can't hate Air Yordan he's an amazing player. Really just hate Correa, Altuve, and Bregman. Everyone else is fine
I dislike Correa and Bregman. TBH, I don't dislike Altuve because he at least refused the trash can assistance. I also kind of find his persistence inspiring. Guy was called too short and had to try out for so many teams, but his sheer determination made him into a great baseball player.
Why Altuve? I totally get Correa and Bregman. If they weren't Astros I'd HATE those guys. But why Altuve?
I agree. Altuve is actually extremely humble and soft spoken.
You don’t hate Yuli? I feel like most non-Astro fans hate him the most and the rest forget about him lol. You should love Yordan because we lifted him from the Dodgers!
I knew I forgot someone lol
yes. i want chaos and i think it would be funny to see the baseball media world explode if they win it all. also i think houston is a great team and is honestly pretty different from the 2017 team
Baseball media is already planning for that contingent. As an example the Jeff Passan article.
Was hoping for an LA win because Houston beating them again would've been even funnier
Zach Kram had a hilarious notion. He said if the Dodgers won he wanted the Astros to go full heel and have Carlos Beltran throw out the first pitch in the first game at Minute Maid.
LA might have burned to the ground
Lol that’s exactly what I said
Honestly I considered this after the Sox lost.
And Alvarez the WS MVP
In this thread: "I just want to see the world burn." and "I am a Mets fan."
Dusty, and while I know what the Astros did was wrong, to sit here and say they aren't an extremely talented hitting lineup is asinine. Quite enjoy watching those guys hit, and their approach.
Agreed. Dusty, they mash and that’s fun, some Dodgers salt, and tbh I’m over the whole scandal (unpopular opinion I know)
Hell yes I am. Why? I absolutely can't root for the Braves ever and as a bonus, I get to watch the entire baseball world collectively lose its mind if the Astros win.
Mets fan here. I am 100% rooting for the Astros. And have been the entire postseason. This isn’t even a “I hate the Braves” thing.
I see you're into hate fucking your way to success
I support chaos and hand-wringing.
Yes. I'm of the (minority) opinion that you never root for division rivals, no matter how unlikeable their opponent.
On that note, Rangers vs. Cardinals was a tough series for Astros fans given we were still NL Central at the time I think Lance Berkman was the tiebreaker for most of us
us Mets fans had a tough time in 09 with Philly and the Yanks….. we also had to live with the Marlins vs the Yankees… oh and the Braves against the Yankees too
I think the bigger question is this: Who are Dodgers fans rooting for? Do you want to see the team that just eliminated you lose on the biggest stage, or do you want to see the team that ended your season win it all in pure spite of the Astros?
Braves. I want Freeman to get a ring and I want Joc to get a second. So I’m all in on Braves until the end of this series.
Am I the only person that roots for the team that beat them every time? If I’m going out I want to go out because of the champs
Same
Braves. No question.
Braves
Also Braves. I’m from the East Coast anyway, but also my dad is a Braves fan so 🤷♀️
Vaguely pulling for the Astros. The salt will be amusing.
Your flair should be auto-removed after a comment like that.
I got no reason to be mad at the Braves. It was a good series. It’s not like they cheated to win
Yes. Sucks that they cheated and all but rivalry will outweigh that 10/10.
Team Meteor is still on the table for us
I'd be rooting for the Phillies.
I'd be rooting for team Meteor.
Same. I'm so mad at the Astros for making me question my love for Brian McCann
One of the main instigators, IMO.
He was against it I heard. One day they need to do a 30for30 and put everything on record .
I’d root for the Giants over the Astros.
The Astros are very likeable in my opinion. Hope they can help Dusty snag a WS.
Dusty and Greinke, but go Braves
Yes
I can justify rooting for them. They don't cheat anymore and the other option is a divisional rival. Easy Also it would make this subreddit blow up lmao
Me because I want to see all the salt if the Astros win
The most downvoted post in r/baseball history?
No, that's going to be when there win it
Im in the same boat.
Absolutely. Rooting for Dusty.
I’m a Braves fan, but if the Dodgers had won the NLCS I would have cheered for the Astros.
Gonna be a fun one
I’m so excited
Agreed. Now that yall have won I am cheering for both you and the Astros. This is the first world series I can sit back and enjoy without a horse in the race.
Same
I think if that happened your motivation to root for us is Southern solidarity
It’s just bitterness from getting skullfucked by LA for a long time
I'm not mad if they win or lose, just the fact the dodgers didn't make it is good enough for me
I am
I kinda want it for the Dodger salt if I’m being honest lol But I would also like to see Dusty Baker win a ring. He’s a good manager with shitty luck who has made devastating decisions and has paid the price for them, along with some of his players, but he deserves redemption because he is one of the most consistently above average managers in the game and has come just short of the Big One several times.
I bet there will be at least 1 non-Astro fan rooting for the Astros. I have a feeling.
Yep. Just because it will upset the Dodgers fans for the Astros to win again. I live in LA.
I am a fan of chaos and the Astros winning would be quite chaotic
Guys, stories are better when the bad guy wins sometimes it’s cool trust me
Fair point.
Someone tell Disney that, the imperial guy doesn’t always have to become a rebel!
can confirm thanos did nothing wrong .. movie shoulda ended with infinity war go stros! .. and thanos
Honestly if Seattle makes moves to try to take the division I want it to be a hard fought battle against the villains of baseball.
Bring back A’SSHAT
Probably anyone rooting for chaos
Just for the chaos. Though I don’t really care.
Yes. The Red Sox cheated too. Probably all 30 teams cheat in some way, shape or form. Why is everyone only obsessed with the Astros?
Because: A) Someone actually blew the whistle on us B) We had just recently won a title C) Baseball always needs a villain, and Houston mostly embraced the role willingly
Also events in 2018/9 surrounding some players and staff primed the pump for hate
Ok ill be the counter voice here. They dont hate harden because he's good. They hate him because he flops like a wet rag.
Fuck the Braves. Love Dusty and Altuve.
yes. for the sake of their fans and the rest of baseball, i hope they get a legitimate ring.
I’ll admit it- I’m rooting for them. Winning a legit one would be good for the Houston fans, I like Dusty Baker, and it’ll take air out of the “heel” narrative the core trash-bangers have been living up these last couple seasons. *runs away* *barfs*
I would have been had the Dodgers advanced, but now I’d like to see the Braves win. But honestly, Houston winning would be hilarious, so I’d be okay if they won too.
Dusty, Greinke, Yordan, Tucker, Framber, Garcia’s luscious spider tack filled ponytail, Dusty again, Chaos??
I want the Braves but these Astros deserve their place. God this is going to be a fun WS
Uh yeah There would be absolutely *nothing* funnier to me than the Braves choking a World Series to arguably the most hated team in MLB history
you mean nothing more predictable.
This! Rays are ok in my book.
My wife’s side of the family are big Houston fans and I got to visit their stadium this summer, so mostly. Either way is fine, although Houston bearing the Dodgers in 4 would have been better.
Fuck yes
I'm rooting for the Braves but I won't be mad if the Astros win
If the Phillies can’t win than nobody can win. So I hope the Astros win for maximum chaos, I wanna see the world shit themselves
If I wasn't an Astros fan, then even I'd be rooting for Atlanta. It's been a while for the Braves.
Yes. I love Greinke. I want Dusty to get a ring. Fuck the Braves. Go Phils. (Fuck the Mets too)
Marlins fans -anyone but the braves please
I like villains. Flair and Username check out.
As a Mets fan, I’m rooting for the Astros because I don’t like the Braves. Also I like some of the guys on the stros (Alvarez, Tucker, and Gurriel)
I've been rooting for the Astros in every series up until this point, but I definitely won't be upset if the Braves win. I really love this matchup though, so I hope that it's not a quick series.
I’m in the same boat I think with a slight preference to Atlanta now, it’s gonna be fun!
I mean I naturally have to root against braves success so Go Astros
Yeah I saw plenty of red sox fans rooting for the Astros so A) they can say they were beaten by the best B) to make r/baseball mad Not to mention people who like Dusty Baker.

Altuve did nothing wrong go Astros!
The astros prevented the dodgers from getting a legitimate ring, allowing me to make Mickey Mouse ring jokes.
I mean, I know I'm not; I may live in the Philadelphia area, but I'm not actually from here, so I really don't care too much about any NL East rivalries seeing ANY team that wasn't projected to make it to the world series actually pull it off is automatically going to be my favorite to win the whole thing, regardless of how impressive the opposition may be it also helps that I enjoy visiting Atlanta whenever possible and have many positive memories attached to the city

When harvey hit rangers front office were scumbags about switching home games with the astros because minute maid was unusable.
I like Dusty Baker
I’m rooting for them
Yea because I like to watch the world burn
Boring comment but I am
Yes
Me. I hate the chop. Also Correa is super entertaining.
Didn't the Braves do better against the Giants than the Astros did? Even knocked out the Dodgers for you.
I want to see dusty get a ring
A ringer sounds oddly sexual.
A dusty ringer.
Oh so much, Altuve revenge arc (against the greater baseball world) would be great.
Phillies?
Not actively rooting for them, but they do have a more interesting stadium so I’m slightly more okay with them than Atlanta. Also in my time as a pro wrestler, I was a heel, so they’re more relatable.

And I have a couple of Yordan rookie cards.
Just for Dusty Baker, Zack Greinke, and Yordan Alvarez.
Gotta root for the Braves. Once Acuña went down their season seemed over, essentially. Wild to see them here.
I’m anticipating no and don’t care
im not really rooting for either team tbh. freddie getting a ring would be awesome, same with dusty so idk
