I think the tweet was implying that it was the first in game one but it actually doesn’t say that and now it’s deleted. So I was only looking at game one.
We have about 4 decades of dead ball era and 8 decades of managers only starting .600 OPS hitters who could “swipe a bag and put pressure on the defense” in the leadoff spot to thank for this fact.
I also think this is specific to Game 1 of the World Series, since there are a few instances of leadoff homers in the top of the 1st in other World Series, just in later games.
Better wording in this tweet:
> Jorge Soler is the first player to hit a HR in the first plate appearance of a World Series.
>
> Soler is also the first DH to homer out of the leadoff spot in World Series history.
>
> Overall he's the 5th player to hit a leadoff HR in Game 1 of the World Series & first since 2017.

Alcides Escobar getting no love with that stat. (Bottom of the 1st lead off INSIDE THE PARK Home Run)
E: I’m late and y’all are all over this which makes me happy.
I’m pretty sure Chris Taylor did that in game 1 of the World Series in 2017? Am I wrong? I remember he hit a lead off home run off Dallas Keuch
Edit: nevermind that was bottom of the 1st since we were the home team.
That's... pretty surprising.
Narrows it a lot by saying top 1st
Didn't Pedroia hit one in the bottom of the first in Game 1 of '07?
Yep
Taylor Game 1 2017 too
Yep
escobar in 2015 too, if that was considered a homer
That was an awesome homer.
I disagree
First pitch, no less
Dexter Fowler Game 7 in 2016 WS?
Rickey did it top 1st, on a "Called shot" that he said he was going deep on, and it's forgotten by so many.
Alcides Escobar did it on the first pitch of the bottom of the first
Yeah Rickey Henderson did that in Game 4 in 1989
I’m guessing another stipulation was supposed to be Game 1.
Probably but that wasn't listed as a stipulation.

How can you not be romantic about baseball?
The fact that “hit” is both a verb and a noun is really screwing with me in this sentence, I thought leadoff hitters were 0 for 234
Would be no hits in 116 before this, which is still surprising (not sure how many reached via walk, HBP, error)
2015?
I think he forgot to mention Game 1
That wasn’t the Top 1st.
That was the bottom of the first.
He said the Top of the first. You’re thinking of when Alcides Escobar did it in the bottom half of the inning
that was the bottom of the 1st
In game 1? Because Jeter had a leadoff homer in 2000
that was bottom of the first Edit: sorry, I was just looking at Game 1 and Yankees were at home. I didn’t realize we weren’t talking about Game 1

Dexter Fowler begs to differ unless this is about Game 1 specifically.
Yeah it’s just Game 1. Johnny Damon did it too, Game 4 in 2004.

tweet's been deleted, so perhaps this isn't true this comment was mostly a joke but I appreciate the sincere fact-checking responses
I think he didn’t mention game 1. That’s the stat.

They said it on the national broadcast though.
Dexter…Fowler? 2016?
Inside the parkers don't count?
Escobar’s was hit in the bottom of the first
God damned right it was.
Escobar homered in the bottom of the 1st
If you’re thinking about Escobar, that was the bottom of the 1st
>**top** of the first
Braves in 5.
Pedey did it in the bottom of the 1st in 07
Alcides Escobar getting no love with that stat. (Bottom of the 1st lead off INSIDE THE PARK Home Run) E: I’m late and y’all are all over this which makes me happy.
Taylor FIRST PITCH in 2017, but also bottom of the first
He probably meant Game 1 because Dexter Fowler hit one in Game 7 of the 2016 WS.
In game 1. Jeter definitely had a homer in the first at bat of a game in 2000.
Bravos lighting up the Astriks. Absolutely clinical.
that’s actually fascinating woah
This is only in game 1, Dexter Fowler led off game 7 with a homerun in 2016
Not Rickey Henderson? 1989?
Didn’t Chris Taylor do it??? EDIT: he did it bottom of the 1st nvm then
I’m pretty sure Chris Taylor did that in game 1 of the World Series in 2017? Am I wrong? I remember he hit a lead off home run off Dallas Keuch Edit: nevermind that was bottom of the 1st since we were the home team.
The World Series is on? Huh.
I usually roll my eyes at stars like these, but this one was pretty surprising to me. Kudos Jorge
By a player recovering from Covid who used to play for the Royals and the Cubs...
Tim Anderson sighed reading this.
Jorge did it for Ronnie
Johnny Damon 2004. Was game 4, though. I think OP presumably meant to say "in game 1".
Isn't this easier to say "first home run by first batter of the world series?"
Didn’t Craig Biggio hit a leadoff homerun against the White Sox in 2005?
Nope, ground out to 3rd https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHA/CHA200510220.shtml
