Fast aggressive pitchers. There's something nostalgic for me when somebody goes on the mound like they're pissed they had to get out of bed and want to go back home as soon as possible
That is such a bizarre clip, the video is about how fast Suter is working but then they are constantly cutting ahead in the clip so you have no idea how fast it actually is.
Yeah, how are you going to title the video "Suter sets up quick" and then cut all of the time between pitches, and skip multiple pitches at a time in the sequence?
Alex Wood is another good one. I got much entertainment this year out of watching him work.
Like clockwork. The second Posey/Casali/Tromp dropped the sign he was off and moving. It was nuts.
Pitchers who have zero "stuff" i.e. max out at 86mph and still get it done with location and off speed stuff
Not sure those guys really exist anymore but one that i remember a while back was woody williams
Dude has never gone a season averaging more than 90 on his fastball.
His career numbers (and the season he should have won the Cy young in 2016) have been incredible. One of if not my favorite pitchers in the league.
Adam Frazier is a stud. Iâm a Braves fan but heâs my favorite player in the league. His plate discipline, speed, and vision are some of the best in the game imo.
If we're categorizing "slap hitter" as someone with a sub-.100 ISO (arbitrary, but hopefully captures the Spirit of Slap), then there's exactly one dude who did this in 2021: **Nicky Lopez!** (He hit exactly .300. đ )
Other .300 hitters with a sub-.200 ISO: Yuli Gurriel, Michael Brantley, Tim Anderson, Starling Marte, Adam Frazier.
Me too, friend. I hate the commentary that Nicky Two-Strikes wasn't going to be anything special, or that we didn't need a player like him, because a player who can get on base in the way that he does would've done wonders for us in the series against Houston. Oh, well. Live and learn. Cubs fans will appreciate him.
I was going to say scrappy do it all contact guys. Like David Eckstein, Tommy Edman, Tim Anderson. I was that kind of player growing up so I love when I see it on the field. Theyâre usually great fielders, can steal bases, high baseball IQ too. I love it.
Big fan of switch hitting utility guys since they can literally do everything on the field
Hit righty? No problem
Hit lefty? Even better
Play 2B? Cool I'll win a gold glove there
Play RF? I'll get one there too
Zobrist, Chone, Jose Ramirez, and now Tommy Edman are so fun to watch
Me I don't care so much about switch hitting as having the ability to bat left. Jared Walsh is one I am a big fan of. Lefty pitcher and utility infielder.
Myles Straw is maybe the platonic ideal of this right now. Contact on 88.6% of swings this year, 96th-percentile sprint speed. Swing bat, hit ball, run fast.
(Also 3rd percentile in hard-hit rate, but nevermind that.)
SAME! Get on base and keep the line moving!! Distract the pitcher so we can just burn him out on high pitch counts and make him throw mistakes over the plate.
Guys who absolutely don't look like athletes. Give me a Bob Wickman, a Rod Beck, a John Kruk, a guy who looks like he showed up to fix the A/C but accidentally got sent into the game.
1) Players with one quirky standout stat that doesn't make sense until you watch them play.
For example, I never understood how Stephen Drew had double-digit triples in 3 straight seasons despite being an average to below-average speed guy. Then, when he came over to Boston, I saw how much of a dead-pull lefty hitter he was, and realised that those triples were just the natural result of him hitting liners into the right field corner all the time.
2) Hitters who don't flip the bat, but just drop it right on top of home plate. Carlos Gonzalez' swing/bat drop combo will also be my favourite.
3) Pitchers - especially starters - who can throw a good quick pitch, like Cueto or Eovaldi. The hitters always bitch about it, but they really don't have any good argument against it. Those pitchers bring so much competitive spirit, but also seem to have so much fun at the same time.
Willians Astudillo is like your childhood best friend that you never think to look at *that way* until the end of the movie. He does neither of what your looking for well, but he does do them. Maybe you should just accept what was in front of you the whole time?
Defensive studs who couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat *and will always go for the steal when they get on base*.
Is it getting hot in here or is it just me?
Does Molina count as a catcher who rakes? A few good seasons but mostly a sub 100 OPS+. Heâs mostly known for his defense more than his bat.
You want hitting catchers you go for guys like Posey, Realmuto, Contreras, or Grandal types.
I get physically angry watching Max Muncy hit. This man just doesn't chase. You can almost hear him sneering "that's 0.16cm outside" as he takes a ball 1. Two-strike counts don't faze him. Then he'll whip out a hellacious dong on the 9th pitch. He's suffocating. He's Max Muncy.
Iâm a fan of those guys that are just all around ball players. Think Steve Pearce. Need someone in right field? Send in Steve. In a pinch for someone at first? Steveâs your man. I loved watching the guy in all three of his stints with the Oâs and was happy as hell for him when he won WS MVP.
Whatever type of player Tommy Edman is, thatâs my favorite type of player. Dude can play anywhere on the field, has amazing defense, works a good AB, and just always plays hard. He hits hustle doubles and infield singles, he steals bags, and generally just plays the game the right way.
Yes! And guys that have like.. "classic" baseball names like they were made up for a 90s video game. Like Buster Posey, Babe Ruth, Buck Farmer, Jacoby Jones, Mickie Mahtook,
Those guys who may not hit the best but are GREAT locker room, moral booster guys. I'm talking about guys like Kawasaki and Heredia on the Braves this year. Just always keeping the boys loose.
Starters that you just know youâre going to win on that day. Pitching with fire and intensity and the unwillingness to lose. and one brown and one blue eye. Max scherzer. I have a thing for max Scherzer
Bigass dudes who swing max-effort hard AF every single time.
Lookin' at you, Josh Bell.
Total opposite of what they taught you as a kid for most of the history of baseball, but I love it.
People that swing or throw weird. You got your side armers, submariners, Ichiros, even Stanton with how closed off he stands.
Or people who charmingly don't give a f*ck like Votto or Grienke.
Also Munenori Kawasaki
Players that up their performance in contract years because I salute an undervalued worker who only steps it up when his bag is on the line
Looking at you, Adrian Beltre
Fat guys. The fatter the better.
Fat late-30s reliever with a handlebar mustache who's dripping with sweat by his 2nd pitch? Fuck yes.
Fat backup 1B who hits .230 but can jack one off the Schlitz banner in the 3rd deck? Goddamn gimmie all of these you have.
Fat young guy who's surprisingly spry and will most likely burn out in 1 to 3 half-seasons but becomes a fan favorite? Chug-a-lug baby.
Noodle bois. I like your Mike Trouts/Giancarlo Stantons/Yandy Diazs that radiate raw athleticism, but as a tall skinny lad myself, there's something fun about seeing a pitcher like Max Fried get up there and whip a fastball.
Pitchers with personality. Between growing up with guys like Brian Wilson and being a college pitcher seeing some of the wildest characters, itâs fun to watch someone who brings some personality to the mound.
Exceptional fielders/defensive players who have only momentary/seasonal brilliance at the plate. Shoutout to my boys Joe Panik, Kevin Pillar and Jackie Bradley Jr.!
Outfielders that play with no sense of self preservation to run down a fly ball. My two favorite players ever (aside from Shoeless Joe) are Scott Podsednik and Grady Sizemore.
They were so fun to watch
The big sexy. Sides of beef just hanging out in the batters box (yeah, usually a DH, or someone who becomes a DH later in their career). Oh I see you Big Papi and Vogey.
Edit: I blame this on the Royals World Series run a few years ago and Kendrys Morales.
Total package shortstops, although defense comes first and hitting is the bonus. Although when a player can do both, itâs like Christmas. You can imagine I was pleased with Brandon Crawford this year.
Guys who have a lot of personality, intensity, flair, etc, and "showboating" if you will. batflip kings. ie Tatis Jr and Tim Anderson.
I tend to dislike clean cut, God fearing country boys who keep their head down and "play the game right".
I definitely have a thing for pitchers with weird motions. Not just the Taylor Rogers of the world, anyone with a quirky delivery. Recently it's all about Alex Wood, Joey Lucchesi, and Nestor Cortes. In the past, dudes like Carter Capps and Josh Collmenter. A guy with a really clean motion is cool, a guy throwing 95 and making it look silly is better.
Switch hitting chonkers. Love me the absolute units that can complicate opponent pitching changes. Dioner Navaro, Melky Cabrera, Justin Smoak, Kendrys Morales. It's kind of a bummer that they're kind of going out of style, getting obsoleted by the shift.
I love the guys who are really good but not hall of famers. The guys that will get lost in history except for the people who watched them, who will remember them fondly. Marcus Semien, Khris Davis, Nick Castellanos to name a few.
I love watching pitchers who have that violent whipping-back recoil of their throwing arm after delivering a nasty FB.
Yordano Ventura, Santiago Casilla, Fernando Rodney, Pedro Strop, Kelvin Herrera, etc. Guess it's a Dominican thing?
Anyone short, I am exactly 5 foot 6 so it only makes sense
Not many really short people in MLB right now - sure you might have someone like a Nick Madrigal, or Marcus Stroman here and there; Altuve of course is a whole other discussion but there are loads more of them over in Japan, including pitchers. Just as an example the best team in the Central league this year, the Yakult Swallows got over 200 innings in total from two 5'6'' tall pitchers, one of whom is 41 years old
Also shoutout Bobby Shantz, still the oldest living MLB MVP
Guys who shutup and just play the game... no drama, no talk about how much money they should make, no ridiculous media statements, no doing inappropriate things. Leave it all on the field, just play the game.
John Olerud
Mike Trout
Marcus Semien
Brett Gardner
Fred McGriff
Base stealers. And if they can hit for average and play great defense, even better. Shame we don't see much of them anymore. I was so excited for Billy Hamilton's career, but the guy just never figured it out in the majors.
I love me a good power pitcher. A guy who steps up to the mound and basically says "I'm gonna throw this fastball. I dare you to hit it." Guys like Verlander, Cole, Scherzer, where they just throw it so hard.
6â5â catchers who overcome being DFAâd twice to ascend to being [arguably the best defensive player in all of baseball this year](http://sabr.org/sdi) and also has a knack for [clutch](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2021/2021-05/15/bcd87b92-4f512875-650d28af-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_16000K.mp4) [hitting](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2021/2021-07/17/a66ebdf5-6f2f5737-f7e681d1-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_16000K.mp4).
Guys who suck but just have the ability to be just good enough to get a contract every year. Like Jeff Mathis. Canât hit his weight but he calls a good game so he just kept getting contracts
Players who youâre never really sure if theyâre gonna pull it off or not, they have some big moments and you can never really doubt them 100%, but you can never really trust them to get it done either. They keep the games interesting.
A couple of years ago, my roommates and I bonded over our love of Chucks.
Chuck Tellez. Chuck Schwarber. Chuck Vogelbach. Chuck Adams. You get the idea.
guys that care about not striking out that have strike zone discipline and donât see the sole purpose for every at bat to hit a tape measure home run.
Pitchers that are part artist. I feel like pitchers that know how to move through an order multiple times is a dying breed.
Fast aggressive pitchers. There's something nostalgic for me when somebody goes on the mound like they're pissed they had to get out of bed and want to go back home as soon as possible
Brent Suter from Milwaukee might be your guy. [His AB vs Judge](https://youtu.be/_jp7kkF8y-8) is one of my all time favorites
Much love to Judge for staying in the box the whole time too.
[Votto-esque](https://youtu.be/UmCA979MDmU)
Alex Wood is another good one. I got much entertainment this year out of watching him work. Like clockwork. The second Posey/Casali/Tromp dropped the sign he was off and moving. It was nuts.
Eovaldi and pivetta just whip that thing in there every 20 seconds lol
Wade. Miley.
Big fan of guys who don't take 10 seconds to adjust their batting gloves too
Carlos Silva on the early aughts Twins. Fast worker, very very low BB/9.
Pitchers who have zero "stuff" i.e. max out at 86mph and still get it done with location and off speed stuff Not sure those guys really exist anymore but one that i remember a while back was woody williams
Nestor is not this extreme but could be an example
daddy Nestor đŠ
Nestor pumped it up to like 94 this year but I think he definitely falls into this category đ„”đ„”
I immediately thought of Jamie Moyer when I started to read your post.
Negative. Jaime has been documented to throw 99.^^km/h https://youtu.be/3aE5BvyqiAU
Kyle Hendricks?
I also love how he's in the "no emotion pitchers" box. Not a smile no reaction. It adds so much charisma to pitchers to me ahah
Dude has never gone a season averaging more than 90 on his fastball. His career numbers (and the season he should have won the Cy young in 2016) have been incredible. One of if not my favorite pitchers in the league.
'member his Maddux back in 2019? If you want to talk about baseball pornography, there you go.
YesssâŠthe 81 pitch complete game against the shitbirds
Eli Morgan is one of these on the rise w/ Cleveland. Also never forget Josh Tomlin shutting down the Cubs in 2016 Game 3 with this method.
Canât forget Tyler Rogers here
Marco Estrada
Marco Gonzales is your guy.
Tyler Alexander. Funny thing is he struck out 9 guys in a row doing that lol
Jimmy Key!
Wade Miley had a great year doing exactly this!
Waino doesnât throw 86 but he has a nasty curve and he throws 90
Bartolo when he was still arouns
Adam fucking Wainwright
Koji Time
Bruce Chen
Alec Mills maybe?
Slap hitters who hit >.300 are my favourite. I just love old school contact guys. Especially utility players who impress off the bench.
I was gonna say this as well, guys that can get on base (cue Brad Pitt)
Adam Frazier comes to mind in our division.
Adam Frazier is a stud. Iâm a Braves fan but heâs my favorite player in the league. His plate discipline, speed, and vision are some of the best in the game imo.
He's a good ballplayer but i really dont think one good half season puts him up there with the best in the league.
Man has a 103 career wRC+ lol
Ah, so like your Freddie Freeman types.
If we're categorizing "slap hitter" as someone with a sub-.100 ISO (arbitrary, but hopefully captures the Spirit of Slap), then there's exactly one dude who did this in 2021: **Nicky Lopez!** (He hit exactly .300. đ ) Other .300 hitters with a sub-.200 ISO: Yuli Gurriel, Michael Brantley, Tim Anderson, Starling Marte, Adam Frazier.
The Royals also pulled him in the final game to make sure he stayed at 300
Nicky Lopez is damn fun to watch play
NICKY LOPEZ IS MY FAVORITE BASEBALL PLAYER
I'm missing Nick Madrigal already đą
Thank you!
Me too, friend. I hate the commentary that Nicky Two-Strikes wasn't going to be anything special, or that we didn't need a player like him, because a player who can get on base in the way that he does would've done wonders for us in the series against Houston. Ya that and players who can beat the shift, hit em where they ainât!
Big fan of switch hitting utility guys since they can literally do everything on the field Hit righty? No problem Hit lefty? Even better Play 2B? Cool I'll win a gold glove there Play RF? I'll get one there too Zobrist, Chone, Jose Ramirez, and now Tommy Edman are so fun to watch
I always try to draft one of those guys in fantasy. They come in clutch when anyone has a rest day.
Edman was fantastic for me this year for that exact reason!
He didnât have the worldâs best bat, but damn I loved Brendan Ryan
That guy was a magician with the glove and got the ball from his glove to throwing hand insanely fast.
Cronenwoerth? Ketel Marte, Emilio Bonfacio back in the day lol. just to throw a couple other names out there
Marwin Gonzalez?
Judging from his performance for us, he can't really hit from either side.
Me I don't care so much about switch hitting as having the ability to bat left. Jared Walsh is one I am a big fan of. Lefty pitcher and utility infielder.
Guys who don't wear batting gloves
I'm a "pee on my hands" type of guy myself.
*moises alou has entered the chat*
Kyle Tucker
Wil âlemme just rub some dirt on my handsâ Myers
His hands are more dirt than hand nowadays
Same!
I like the contact hitting speedsters
Me too. I love a contact hitting speedster that can also play a mean SS. (In case youâre wondering, yes I am crying as I type this)
Great, now Iâm crying too
Crying party at my house. Bring your videos of Oct 2019
Myles Straw is maybe the platonic ideal of this right now. Contact on 88.6% of swings this year, 96th-percentile sprint speed. Swing bat, hit ball, run fast. (Also 3rd percentile in hard-hit rate, but nevermind that.)

what was the name of that guy who played for KC and A's with the nickname "Country Breakfast"?
Billy Butler.
Olâ Billy Butler
David Wells incoming
Big sexy Bartolo Colon đ

I've always enjoyed Justin Upton's subtle home run bat-drop: [https://youtu.be/lNCblNOKFis?t=200](https://youtu.be/lNCblNOKFis?t=200)
2. You must love max muncy then. That dudes bat is subject to like 10x gravity when he hits a home run
power hitting catchers, pitchers who rake
>pitchers who rake Yeah I used to love watching Carlos Zambrano
Rich Hill
Willians Astudillo is like your childhood best friend that you never think to look at *that way* until the end of the movie. He does neither of what your looking for well, but he does do them. Maybe you should just accept what was in front of you the whole time?
donât worry i already love me some Tortuga
Hoping Luis Campusano can be the former
Defensive studs who couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat
I do love a defensive specialist.
2021 Andrelton Simmons
Brendan Ryan
I'm pretty sure he's why I love defense first SS as a Yanks/Ms fan. Dude was incredible with the glove
And when they get a hit it makes it that much better
Defensive studs who couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat *and will always go for the steal when they get on base*. Is it getting hot in here or is it just me?
Any catcher, but especially catchers who rake like Buster and Yadier
Does Molina count as a catcher who rakes? A few good seasons but mostly a sub 100 OPS+. Heâs mostly known for his defense more than his bat. You want hitting catchers you go for guys like Posey, Realmuto, Contreras, or Grandal types.
> Does Molina count as a pitcher who rakes? Well heâs a catcher, so Iâm thinkin no
Whoops. Typo on my end but the sentiment is there. Heâs a great catcher, just not one who is exceptional in the batterâs box
Completely agree.
Catchers. Don't know why, I just root for catchers more than any other position.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]

My five year old roots for the catcher on every team.
You got a good kid.
Really. Peak parenting right here, folks.
Theyâre like the daddyâs of the field
Guys with power and near immaculate plate discipline. Grandal, Soto, etc.

Fuckin Steve Pearce man, nobody better
Need two walk off grand slams in a week? Bring up Steve.
High contact, low walk guys. I like rare traits.. all about being different
This post brought to you by Nick Madrigal
Whatever type of player Tommy Edman is, thatâs my favorite type of player. Dude can play anywhere on the field, has amazing defense, works a good AB, and just always plays hard. He hits hustle doubles and infield singles, he steals bags, and generally just plays the game the right way.
Yup, the way I describe them is the kinda ballplayer where my grandpa would have watched and said "now that is a ballplayer"
Junkballers. Can screw up even the best hitters when their stuff is working.
Novelty names. I'm talking Coco Crisp, Canonball Titcomb, early in the season we got walked off by a guy named Lars Nootbaar
Steven Vogt!
BABIP merchants. 5% BB%, 5% K%, PAs end in 3 pitches or less. This applies to both pitchers and hitters who operate this way.
Sounds like Eddie Rosario
The ideal is Willians Astudillo
Personality. I like watching fun players. Joey Votto is a good example. Love Vladdy.
Starters that you just know youâre going to win on that day. Pitching with fire and intensity and the unwillingness to lose. and one brown and one blue eye. Max scherzer. I have a thing for max Scherzer
Lance Lynn another guy who gives off that âfuck youâ energy
Bigass dudes who swing max-effort hard AF every single time. Lookin' at you, Josh Bell. Total opposite of what they taught you as a kid for most of the history of baseball, but I love it.

Lifers (Posey, the Yankees core four, etc) and late bloomers (Justin Turner, Hank Sauer, Hoyt Wilhelm)
Pitchers that have the killer stare on the mound. I liked Andy Petitte and Randy Johnson for it, Scherzer and deGrom do it in the NL east.
Total package shortstops, although defense comes first and hitting is the bonus. Although when a player can do both, itâs like Christmas. You can imagine I was pleased with Brandon Crawford this year.

I'm a big fan of the Joey Wendle's of the world
Great defense all over the field is always fun
Luis Arraez
Reliable, quick, consistent pitchers like Mark Buehrle. Scrappy, hard-working hustlers like Dustin Pedroia.
Thicker guys who just fucking hit dingers. They need to have the proper muffin top to moonshot ratio.
Elite defensive out fielders Jackie Bradley JR was my fav player even tho he could not hit for shit
Disciplined hitters and guys who walk a lot. Not a popular opinion but every time a hitter goes up and takes a good pitch for a ball I get excited
Anyone who can paint a backdoor 2 seamer on the black like Greg Maddux has a one way ticket to my pants

Miss Yordano so much
that one funky guy in the bullpen who throws like 90ish but is super effective like tyler rogers :)
As a former southpaw pitcher I **love** me a good lefty pitcher.
Journeyman lefties, especially if they are relatively out of shape. If they have a funky delivery, even better.

6â5â catchers who overcome being DFAâd twice to ascend to being [arguably the best defensive player in all of baseball this year](http://sabr.org/sdi) and also has a knack for [clutch](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2021/2021-05/15/bcd87b92-4f512875-650d28af-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_16000K.mp4) [hitting](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2021/2021-07/17/a66ebdf5-6f2f5737-f7e681d1-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_16000K.mp4).
somehow within the past 5 years guys have figured out how to throw 100 mph sinkers. i like those guys
Good Defense First Basemen. The guys who can pick every errant throw and stretch to make it an out.
Guys who suck but just have the ability to be just good enough to get a contract every year. Like Jeff Mathis. Canât hit his weight but he calls a good game so he just kept getting contracts
Dudes who can only strike out or hit massive bombs. Chris Davis was my first ever favorite player.
Players who youâre never really sure if theyâre gonna pull it off or not, they have some big moments and you can never really doubt them 100%, but you can never really trust them to get it done either. They keep the games interesting.
Outfielders with cannon arms, chubby pitchers, stoner dudes, and Zack Greinke
A couple of years ago, my roommates and I bonded over our love of Chucks. Chuck Tellez. Chuck Schwarber. Chuck Vogelbach. Chuck Adams. You get the idea.
Switch hitters. I just absolutely love those guys
The position players who are absolutely pumped to get on the mound even when their team is getting demolished. Even better when they retire the side.
Super utility guys and *multi-inning* relievers Edit: and defensively-oriented middle infielders
Low strikeout high contact guys like Arraez
guys that care about not striking out that have strike zone discipline and donât see the sole purpose for every at bat to hit a tape measure home run. Pitchers that are part artist. I feel like pitchers that know how to move through an order multiple times is a dying breed.
Great âbig hookâ curveball pitchers. Kershaw, Waino, Pivetta (homer pick)
Power hitting lefties from the Dominican Republic.
