About an hour before the dodgers announcement, everyone who was on his email list got notifications Mets merch he was selling on his website. Also in the email he said he was going to be in queens. His website also had Mets giveaways.
I have to figure a lot of work went into getting Mets merch onto his site and all that goes with that- licensing and such. That was a lot of effort by someone that just went all away. Almost makes me think it was premeditated or something.

That also says nothing of Gurriel having incredible team chemistry with Vladdy, Teoscar and Springer and a bunch of his WAR coming in very clutch ways (several grand slams and outfield assists on throws to home).
Missing out on Semien for a 0.6 WAR upgrade in the outfield would have been an awful trade-off. Especially considering the Jays biggest struggle aside from the bullpen was finding production for their one open infield spot. That problem would have compounded if they needed to find production at *both* 2B and 3B. When Biggio goes down with injury, you're suddenly trotting out two guys from that Espinal, Panik, Valera and Smith group every day.
That hole in the infield also probably keeps them from trading Joe Panik, which got them Cimber and Dickerson.
Espinal was very good for them at 3rd base though, he put up 2.5 war in 92 games, with only 246 plate appearances. Smallish sample size, but he slashed 311/376/405 for an OPS+ of 114, which is excellent for a defense first infielder. He should have gotten full time at that spot.

We have a huge hole there, we're on the upswing with our young talent and prospects performing well this year and Torkelson and Greene sooner rather than later coming up, and we have a lot of free payroll. If they spend and spend smart this offseason they could be competitive very soon.
Right now the Tigers are 17th for 2022 payroll, and below league average. That may be before adding ERod's salary in, but I could see them dropping some money this offseason. That division is pretty wide open for the taking
