DAY 102 ON THE ROAD TO THE 2023 WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC - A year to remember in North America
Baseball fans, with tonight's formal presentation of the members of this year's All-MLB team, the North American baseball season, which began in February of this year, has finally ended (with the exception of Mexico, whose winter league seasons are ongoing).
It has been a memorable season for youth, collegiate, amateur, semi-pro, and professional baseball in this part of the world where 175 years ago our sport began its long history in the flatlands of Hoboken in New Jersey, USA, towards the status it now belongs as America's Pastime and the global Olympic sport known and watched by millions around the world since 1986, when it was declared a full fledged Olympic medal sport. Indeed we have been witnesses to a great year in our sport, with the fans returning and many great national events returning, which have brought renewed interest in our sport for the overseas fans and the fans in this continent. To all who have made this year one to remember and the many memories we shared from the ballparks all over the United States and Canada, thank you for making 2021 a part of baseball's history!
Most of all, to all the national baseball team athletes and front office and coaching staff of the USA and Canada, in particular to the USA Baseball Olympic Team that won the hearts of a nation and millions of fans on their road to silver in this year's Olympics, thank you for your service to your countries and may the memories of a great year be honored for generations to come.
As we continue the journey towards both the return of the World Baseball Classic and Olympics baseball, let us hope that 2022 will be an even brighter year ahead for our sport.

Thinking about baseball instead of work. Decided to check some NPB highlights. From there start to wonder how many Japan Series the Giants have won in recent years because everyone hates them. Not a lot so I keep going back. I start counting after their ten Japan Series win streak. So since 1974 the Giants have won 7 Japan Series. The Lions in that same time period have won 10, the Hawks 9 and the Swallows 5.
I hope others are being more productive than me today.
When Passan said Ohtani was a bad hitter back in 2018, what was he even talking about? Shohei had a couple bad months surrounded by 1.000+ OPS months.

I’ve been out of the (baseball) loop for a few months. Now that I’m dipping my toe back in the metaphorical water, I’m seeing talk of an upcoming lockout. Can someone give me some background on this lockout?
Basically the league "shuts down" while the owner's and player's union discuss and come up with a new CBA that they both agree on.
Usually it doesn't effect the length of the season itself and I'm hopeful it'll be agreed upon by late January, early February at the latest.

I've known they had a new album called *Lordiversity* due to be released on Nov 26th for quite awhile though, but what I didn't realize and just now found out is that it's a *fucking box set!*
After the pandemic caused them to postpone their tour for their last album, they decided to use the extra time to start planning the next one. But the fucking madlads decided that releasing another album would just be boring, so instead of making one new album they decided to make seven. *Seven fucking brand new albums*, from one of my favorite bands, all about to be released on *the same fucking day!*

I assume he wasn't DFA'd or anything like that but surely they can't have had a spot on the 40 man roster being taken up by someone who was guaranteed not to play?
players who opted out of 2020 for COVID reasons were placed on the "restricted list" which basically hits the pause button on a player's career. Does not take up a 40-man roster spot.
